Backup everything except the system tablespace

Is there a way to backup everything except the system tablespace without having to specify every individual tablespace?
version is 10.1.0.5 on HP-UX itanium.
The reason for this is the database was upgraded from 7.3.4->8i->10.1.0.5 and we are now migrating to using RMAN instead of user managed backups however we have encountered a bug when backing up index blocks in the system tablesapce this only impacts compressed backupsets so If I can exlude the system tablespace I can run two backups one uncompressed that captures the system tablespace then another that captures everything else. I'd really like to avoid specifying the tablespaces in a script as it then introduces the possibility that a new tablespace is added and isn't included in the backups.

Unfortunatly this database is used by a third party application and the aplpication vendor only supports 10.1.0.5 at the moment, plans are to upgrade next year and tidy up the number of tablespaces at the same time.
looks like I'll have to backup the system tablespace uncompressed and then all the other tablespaces as a compressed backupset and setup an alert on files not backed up.

  • Why the system tablespace increase a lot?

    I have noticed that the system tablespace of my prod Oracle 10g R2 on AIX 5.3L reaches over the 85% warning level now, and the size has increased from ~68% to 88% of 1.6G total assigned capacity during the last 7 months. How do i find out what reason causes the increase? can I remove some "fat" out of them? or just keep increasing the size? My fresh backup AIX 5.3L system with the same 10g R2 only takes 38% of 1.6 G.

  • [Solved] Updating everything except the Linux kernel

    Hello,
    Since a few weeks, wicd has problems with recent versions of kernel on my computer. Is there a way to update everything except the linux package?
    Thanks in advance.

    You can hold any package from updating by uncommenting the IgnorePkg option on your pacman.conf and listing said package(s) there.

  • InterMedia leaves garbage in the system tablespace

    During the creation of a context(interMedia) index, I shutdown
    the Oracle server with abort. I started the server up and
    proceeded to delete the bad index. When I tried to create a new
    index with the same name an error occured. I looked in some
    tables in the system tablespace under the ctxsys user, and found
    references to my corrupted index. Is there a way to clear out
    this bad data w/o having to re-install Oracle?

    You don't say what the error is so I can't be sure, but I
    suspect that deleting the entry in dr$index (owned by ctxsys)
    for your 'bad' index will allow you to recreate it.

  • How to make everything except the finder disappear?

    I'd like to press one key on my keyboard and have everything but the finder get hidden. Any way to do that?

    Hi there,
    Not exactly 'one key' as requested, but if you hold the Cmd and Option keys and click on an application window, it will hide everything except that application. You can exploit this behaviour for your needs by cmdoptclicking on any part of your Desktop. This will hide everything except the Finder.

  • Restored system from Time Machine backup disk but the system could not start-up

    On MacBook Pro early 2008, restored the entire system from Time Machine backup disk to the entire disk.
    The previous system on the backup disk had FileVault turned on.
    The restore completed successfully and I was prompted to restart the system via the new restored system disk.
    I heard the normal start-up sound, then the Apple logo, but it stuck at the logo screen. And the cooling fan run at almost full speed?
    I have been waiting for a few hours, guessing it might FileVault the disk.
    Finally I have to shutdown the machine as it stuck at the logo screen forever.
    Anyone has the same issue? Any ideas?

    BTW, I also tried Repair the system disk, Fix permissions via Disk Utility.
    I guess I must lose some files either during the backup or the restore.

  • [Forum FAQ] Cannot perform a backup schedule via Windows Server Backup and receive "The system cannot find the path specified." Error

    Symptom One
    You attempt to
    schedule a backup every day via Windows Server Backup on Windows Server 2008 R2. At the beginning, the backup works without issue. But after a few days it failed and you receive the error “Windows Server Backup:
    The system cannot find the path specified.”
    Cause
    The issue may occur if there is
    no shadow copy storage space available on the backup volume.
    Verify
    You can use the List ShadowStorage command to check if you have enough storage space to store the newly created shadow copy. If you've reviewed the size of the backup snapshot and discovered
    that there is no allocated space for the storage association, you need to resize shadowstorage.
    Solution
    You could run the command below to create shadow copy storage space on the backup volume:
    vssadmin resize
    shadowstorage /for=<ForVolumeSpec> /on=<OnVolumeSpec> [/maxsize=<MaxSizeSpec>]
    More Information
    Vssadmin resize shadowstorage
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc788050.aspx
    Symptom Two
    When you add
    another external hard drive to backup schedule via Windows Server Backup on Windows Server 2012, it fails and you receive the error “The System cannot find the path specified.”
    Cause
    The issue is due to the
    Original Destination Disk was not attached to the server.
    Verify
    You could check the disk status in Disk Management to see if the Original Destination Disk is offline or removed.
    Solution
    You need to attach
    Original Destination Disk to the Server then choose another external hard drive as backup target. After that, you could remove the Original Destination Disk.
    Workaround
    To work around this issue, please use the WBADMIN command line tool to add disk.
    WBADMIN ENABLE BACKUP -addtarget :{ DiskID}
    The AddTarget parameter takes disk ID as parameter. It can be retrieved by running "WBADMIN GET DISKS" command.
    Example:
    WBADMIN ENABLE BACKUP
    -addtarget :{ aa123d14-bba0-1dd9-0d93-80aaaa6bbb63}
    More Information
    Wbadmin enable backup

  • MSI R6850-PM2DAGD5/OC everything EXCEPT the Driver installs

    Multiple installations of the latest Windows 7 64 bit driver from the AMD site, the MSI site, and using "Update Driver" button from Device manager, as well as an attempted installation of previous versions of the same driver from the AMD site produce the same result:
    ATI install manager finishes with errors, showing that the driver installation failed. I've unistalled, run driver cleaner, rebooted to safe mode, run driver cleaner again, rebooted and ran a fresh install with the same result. Everything in the Catalyst suite EXCEPT the driver installs.
    Device manager accurately labels the card as AMD Radeon HD 6800 series, but on the properties tab shows (Driver Date: 4/19/2011, Driver Version 8.850.0.0) shows  "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
    On reboot, a dialog box pops up reading:
    "No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware."
    Any guidance or is this and RMA situation? I can't get this card to perform correctly at all, and I know the slot is fine because I have a Gigabyte 6850 that I can install and uninstall at will.

    I took the card over to a buddies house and tested it on his two Windows 7 rigs (listed below). He ran the driver packages and then performed the windows 7 performance testing and after about a minute, the screen turned off and a "no signal" message appeared. We repeated the cycle (restarted, reload drivers, reran Win7 test) and the same thing happened again. Another thing we noticed is that Everest wouldn't detect the card.
    So, on my machine, Windows device manager shows the card as a 6800 series card with and error exclamation point/triangle next to it, and shows in properties tab that Windows has stopped the driver/service because there is an error with the device. On his machines, Everest doesn't dectect the card and the card stops working consistently.

  • [KIND OF SOLVED]Updating everything except the kerne

    Hey all,
    Recently, I updated my system and it automatically updated the kernel to 3.7 (as i remember)  but the wifi adapter stopped working. In previous kernel i used the following driver and "modprobe wl" to make the wifi work: Driver. After I updated, modprobe wl didn't work, so I installed the previous kernel. I have  2 questions:
    1. How can i make my wifi work?
    or if it is not possible... 2. How can I update my system WITHOUT installing the new kernel?
    Thanks in advance.

    The file /etc/pacman.conf has IgnorePkg and IgnoreGrp settings.  You can list the unwanted updates here.  Though keep in mind that partial updates are not supported.  Also, if you are ignoring something as crucial as the kernel, there are other packages that may depend on the updated kernel.  For instance, things like kernel modules will likely be broken, especially between version bumps like 3.6 -> 3.7.
    I think in your case though, you are trying to use a kernel module that you had to compile yourself against your kernel.  So now that you are updating from 3.6 to 3.7 you now only have a module that is built against 3.6. I think rebuilding the module against the new kernel is going to be not straight forward unless you are comfortable editing a pkgbuild (which isn't that hard btw).
    Edit: nevermind, this pkgbuild relies of a prebuilt module from a debian package.  You aren't "building" anything form this package.  Sorry dude...

    Have you read my reply to your other thread : https://discussions.apple.com/message/18373620#18373620 ?
    For Facebook try one of the facebook apps e.g. the 'official' Facebook app
    To sync photos, connect and select your iPad on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that tab you can then select which photo folders to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236 . You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - not including photos in a subsequent sync is how you delete them from the iPad.

  • Everything EXCEPT the text on my page scales, help?

    I have a page with several images and text and all are set to % values so the page can scale with the browser. Yet for some reason only the images scale. What am I doing wrong?
    P.S. I'm relatively new to the field if this is a silly question.

    Put this code in your Stage compositionReady and you will be sorted!
    $(document).ready(function() {
        fontSize();
        $(window).resize(function() {
            fontSize();
        function fontSize() {
            $ww = $(window).width();
            $fontSize = ($ww / 25) + 'pt';
            $('body').css("font-size", $fontSize);

  • Windows 7 Backup "The System cannot find the path specified" - Error Code 0x80070003

    I'm having severe problems backing up my own machine to a share on our
    FILE-SERVER as \\FILE-SERVER\Backup\
    I have already backed up another PC successfully using exactly the same settings I have used on my own PC. So I presume it is nothing to do with the
    FILE-SERVER or the Backup settings.  It has to be something to do with what I'm trying to backup from my machine.
    First some background.
     This exercise all began when the Windows Server 2008 r2
    O/S fell over on one of our Servers. I tried reinstalling the O/S several times, without success. In the end I grabbed another drive and re-built the O/S. I then had problems promoting it to a Domain Controller on the network.
     In the end I renamed the Server from FILESERVER
    to FILE-SERVER.
    We routinely share four folders on what is now
    FILE-SERVER:
    \\FILE-SERVER\Backup
    - a Folder where backups from all other machines are written, so that they will be backed up with the Server
    \\FILE-SERVER\Company
    - holds all our Company data
    \\FILE-SERVER\GEM
    - this is the application folder for our own database
    \\FILE-SERVER\Install
    - holds all Install files for the software we use
    These are all held on a RAID 1 Array that is separate from the System Disk that fell over.
    Prior to the Server falling over, I had Backup working fine on my machine.
    On my Notebook PC I had made these shared folders 'Available Offline', so that I still had everything available to me when I was out of the office. They were
    of course shared as \\FILESERVER\... not \\FILE-SERVER\...
    Having got the Server up and going again, I began to get the Backups from the Windows 7 Client PC's going again.
     I started with a Desktop, which of course did not have any Offline Files.
     That proved relatively straight-forward.
    I then started with my machine. Initially I did not make the above shared folders 'Available Offline'. I set up my Backup using exactly the same settings that
    had worked OK on the desktop machine. But when I ran the backup I got:
    The System cannot find the path specified, Error Code 0x80070003
    I tried all sorts of things to get it to work:
    I restored the system to the earliest point possible,
    I ran chkdsk,
    I defragged the drive
    All to no avail, so I tried backing up:
    with and without a system image,
    reducing the backup to a single folder,
    a single Folder with only one .txt file in it,
    making the Folders 'Available Offline' again.
    Nothing made any difference.
     In the end I looked in the Sync Center to look at the Offline Files Folder.
     Under Mapped Network Drives I discovered I still had the Files and Folders from
    \\FILESERVER.  In their Shortcut Menu 'Always Available Offline' was greyed out. So I deleted the Offline Copies. This deleted the Files in the Folders but not the Folders.
    Since I could find no way of deleting the old Mapped Network Drives, I decided I'd painted myself into a corner by renaming the Server.
     So I bit the bullet and re-installed my Notebook too.  This did get rid of the unwanted old Mapped Network Drives - BUT NOT THE ERROR!!
    I’ve been through all the troubleshooting procedures in:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/629597bb-7be0-455c-b81e-a149472d3f9b/windows-7-backup-the-system-cannot-find-the-path-specified-error-0x80070003?forum=w7itprogeneral
    Method 1
    It had none of the symptoms reported in
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/973455
    but I scanned for ‘reparse’ points anyway.  Found several “Junction Points” but none that were “Mounted Volumes”, just ordinary ‘File Folders’.
    Method 2
    Check a drive for errors.
    Looked at:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Check-a-drive-for-errors
    Checked
    both boxes.  I closed machine down, to check for errors when it re-started.
    It didn’t seem to find anything.
    I say seem, because I did not actually see it finishing checking the empty space, but stages 1-4 found no problems and Windows 7 restarted normally.
    It did detect 66 ‘Reparse’ Points, which is more than it found when I scanned for them earlier.
    Method 3
    Yes, I am an administrator or my own machine and, as such, I have ‘Full Access’.
    I downloaded an ran the Process Monitor, filtering for Process Name “Wbengine.exe”, but did dot get a single event.
    So I’m not sure what’s going on.
    HELP - I'm out of ideas!
    I have a WORD Document that documents all the Settings I've used on both the Server and the Clients, together with the reasoning behind those settings, but
    I cannot find a way of uploading it.

    I am having the exact same problem with Windows 7 Professional. Out of the blue, this issue just started a few months ago when running my monthly Windows Backup where I have used a USB drive for the last 3 years, and never ever had this issue before. Most
    of the solutions listed on the Microsoft websites and answers deal with
    "Restore" functions, not the
    "Backup" itself. I have 3 folders being skipped during the backup.
    So I went and changed the Backup from "let Microsoft choose files, directories, etc" to "Let me choose". I included the files and folders that were being skipped, and ran the "Backup" again, and got the same error message,
    but the files that were skipped the first time were "Backed up" finally. This issue is somehow related to my "Libraries"?
    The 3 backup problems are:
    Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\My Audio Books\Audio Book Recordings. Error:(The system cannot find the path specified. (0x80070003))
    Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\My Audio Books\Audio Book CD Label-Cover Art. Error:(The system cannot find the path specified. (0x80070003))
    Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\My Audio Books\Audio Book MP3 Tag Art. Error:(The system cannot find the path specified. (0x80070003))
    Did a "checkdisk" - no problems. Ran a program to fix registry - no problems. All updates up to date. I guess I could eliminate these folders from the Backup folders in the
    Library, and just choose them under the "Users" locations, and be done with it. But I really want to understand this, and fix it. This is within Windows 7 and may be related to Windows Media Player or
    some recent Windows update.  Thanks.
