Backup fails - restarted crashes OS X
So far I am not having much luck with Time Capsule. In fact I am thinking it isn't stable enough to support my families needs.
This morning I noticed that the last backup had failed. Attempts to restart the backup bought up the "You need to restart this compute by holding the reset button". On reboot it asked if I wanted to send mail to Apple... I tried again with the same results.
I still want to do backup but at this stage, any attempt to use the TC crashes my system. Any one have any suggestions to fix this?
Time capsule seemed like a good idea. My other system with an attach external drive has run just fine. So I am probably going to stop using the TC and use an external drive instead.
Yes I did resort to deleting the sparse bundle.
However, I think you are wrong when you say TM+TC is easy to use. The fact that MAC OS X crashed when TM started is not good. If deleting a month of backups is the "easy" to use part then this is not a good backup solution. If a corrupt backup is possible then ease of use it irrelevant.
I don't recommend that anyone use TM+TC at this time. If I now wanted to retrieve an important document then I am totally screwed since it is really gone. I have been a software engineer for over 20 years, I'd expect a backup product to be much more robust than this.
I am now backup up to a USB external drive, another excruciating wait. Last night it had taken 2 hours to 40MB out of 40GB...

CRS 5 Backups fail with this error: Unknown error occured while connecting to the host
Dear All,
We have backup issue with UCCX 5.0(2)SR03_Build317, while trying to take backup giving following error "Unknown error occurred while connecting to the host".
I have found the solution in the Cisco and tried all the suggestion, still not working and same error observed. Due to backup issue we unable to do any changes on the CRS, when we try to create new agents, those agents are not reflecting in the CRS.
Also I have observed bellow error , when try to re-sync the JTAPI,

Solution
Complete these steps in order to resolve this issue:
•1. Access the UCCX server and navigate to Start > Run, and type CET.
•2. When the warning message appears, click NO.
•3. Choose com.cisco.crs.cluster.config.ArchiveAdminConfig.
•4. On the right side, double-click the record ID.
•5. Click the com.cisco.crs.cluster.config.ArchiveAdminConfig tab, and clear the password under Backup Storage.
•6. Click Apply.
•7. Navigate to Appadmin > Tools > Backup and Restore.
•8. Under Backup Storage Location, type the new password, and click Update.
After you complete these steps, you can run the backup. If the backup fails, restart the server, and try the backup again. If the backup still fails, you can navigate to CET, clear all the fields, and then type the new information for the storage location.
Please help me with your suggestions.

Since upgrading my mid-2010 MacBook Pro from the original Snow Leopard to Yosemite 10.10.2 there have been multiple instances of restart (crash) also slow operation & pop up message stating web content has failed. Any suggestions?

The only observations are that the backup drive is deemed too small and the quite long list of diagnostic reports dated between Jan 18, 2015 (which I believe is the day I upgraded to Yosemite) & today the latest Yosemite update was installed on Jan 28, 2015

HT3728 My time capsule reports Backup Failed
After a year of more of faultless backups, suddenly my TC reports Backup Failed. I have tried to restart, dismount and remount, but it still reports Backup Failed. I have a 2T TC and use it to backup two Macbooks.
Any ideas?
Wireless Interference
Might be caused by a cordless phone in the vicinity. To give you an example, my neighbor.....across the street...used to be able to literally crash my wireless network if he was in his front yard talking on his cordless phone.
I discovered this by accident one day after spending weeks trying figure out why my network would crash at random times.
Other possibilities include a wireless security/camera system near you
Still other things might be an amateur ham radio operator....which should not interfere....but again from experience, I know that this can occur.
Yet another possibility is another wireless network near you that is being turned on and off at random times. Some users power up their modem/router only when they want to do so and leave it off otherwise.
Some general rules to help avoid interference:
Move any cordless phones that you might have as far away as possible from the Time Capsule and/or your computer(s)
Avoid placing other electronic devices....computer, television, amplifier, satellite receiver, etc. near the Time Capsule and/or your computer(s)
Avoid metal surfaces near the Time Capsule and/or your computers
Elevate the Time Capsule as much as possible. Think of it as a water sprinkler....you want to get the room as wet as possible
Experiment with different wireless channels on the Time Capsule. To do this:
Open AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule
Click Edit
Click the Wireless tab
Click Wireless Options
Start with Channel 11 on the 2.4 GHz band and work your way down
It is unlikely that you are picking up interference on the 5 GHz band since there are.....for now at least.....far fewer networks using this frequency. -
ICloud backups failing due to Safari bookmarks DB being locked
iCloud backups are failing to complete on my iPhone 4 (CDMA), iOS 5.0.1. I successfully completed a backup on November 9, but haven't been able to get a backup to complete since then. When I manually invoke the "Back Up Now" function, it starts backing up, then says "There was a problem completing the backup. Please try again later."
Looking in the console logs (below), it appears the problem is that the Safari bookmarks DB is locked (corrupted?). Indeed, I am unable to add additional bookmarks in Safari, I get the message: "Bookmarks are being synced. Please add the bookmark once syncing has completed."
I've tried restarting the iPhone to no avail; I've also looked at Apple's iCloud backup troubleshooting doc, and none of the cases there seemed to match this problem.
Any suggestions ar every much appreciated!

I may not have all the steps down correctly, but open your apple ID account manager and go to the your listing for email and "verify" the email address. This association then seems to allow the use of your email address when you are trying to set up this new apple ID that they are requiring for iCloud.
Be aware that this new apple ID has a far reach and apparently cannot be undone, that is you can't change the name, characters, numbers or whatever you have for an email address that becomes your apple ID---even if you can no longer use the email address to receive email.

System Image Backup Failed During Backup
I have a 2 year old HP pavilion g series notebook. I was doing a system image backup onto dvd+r disks. It was nearly finished when on disk #99 I got this message "The Backup Failed. The system cannot find the path specified (0x80070003)
My computer is out of warranty and I'm out $60 in disks if they can't be used. I need to know it there is a way to salvage what I saved and restart Image backup from where it left off?

I understand that you were doing an image backup and when it was nearly finished you received the error (0x80070003). Here is a link to a Microsoft answer to assist you. Windows backup error 0x80070003 ( Answered by Vinod N)
I am unsure if you would be able to start again and pick up on disk 99, as once you have repaired it, it will have changed from when you first ran the backup. The disk you used were not read, writeable, so you would not be able to reuse them. You may find that an external drive would be a more economical way to do your backups. The data would be in one place and easier to store. If you decide to use a USB stick it must not be more then 32GB and will not say Windows 8 on it.
You can most likely purchase an External drive for about the cost of replacing the disks. Here is a link to HP Shopping External storage , but you can purchase one at many places, computer shops, Staples,Walmart, and Office Depot are just a few. I hope this helps.

Recent backups fail: "An error occurred while copying files to the volume."
I recently moved to a new place and set up Time Capsule as a bridge. Backups were working fine for the first couple days but then, out of the blue, I got a message that said the password I entered for Time Capsule was incorrect. I entered the correct password and hit OK. Time Machine was able to connect but now backups fail with this error: "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while copying files to the backup volume."
Time Machine indicates it is "preparing backup" for a few minutes, then sits at "zero of __MB completed" for a long while, finally starts backing up and gets to the end but then fails. Console indicates "unexpected reply from backup server; ignored."
None of these attempts have fixes my problem:
--I have deleted my TC passwords in Keychain Access.
--I have tried downloading the latest Airport Utility and re-entering the TC disk's password in both Airport Utility and in Time Machine preferences.
--I have restarted my computer and unplugged & plugged back in TC.
My Internet connection works fine; TC's light is solid green. I can enter Time Machine to restore backups without a problem. The backups just fail every time now. Any ideas?The problem really isn't the speed of the backup; it's done in 5-10 minutes, but each time it finishes, TM reports it has failed. I don't believe plugging it in overnight or letting TM try over and over will fix the problem. I've tried to manually start backups a number of times, and have let TM try to start and complete them on its own but they consistently fail.
It would be an awful shame if I had to delete my old backup--I bought the Time Capsule for the specific purpose of having backups that go back months and I don't want to lose what I've already backed up. -

I have tired restarting the Block Level Backup Engine Service service, deleting the backup catalogue, removing and re adding Window Server Backup feature. None of these fixed the problem.

I have Win Server 2008 R2 contain Domain controller (No Hyper-V). I have to take "SYSTEM STATE DATA BACKUP". I have ran following command on this Server.
c:\>wbadmin start systemstatebackup -backuptarget:d:
but backup was not successful & I got following error in command prompt.
" A VOLUME SHADOW COPY SERVICE OPERATION HAS OCCURRED : <0X800423f4>. THE WRITER EXPERIENCED A NON-TRANSIENT ERROR. IF THE BACKUP PROCESS IS RETRIED,THE ERROR IS LIKELY TO REOCCUR."
I also ran following command to know exact problem.
c:\>vssadmin list writers
I got following error

I have also restart the server but problem is not resolved. I have no SQL in my Server.

Calendar Portlet Will Fail Restarting After July 28, 2005

We have an Oracle 8i database sitting on a UNIX server. On July 28th 2005, our entire database crashed with no UNIX processes able to run. We found that the cause was due to the Java Cryptography Extension (JCE) 1.2.1 that ships with OCS 9.0.4.x makes use of a certificate that expires on July 28, 2005. On or after July 28, 2005
the Calendar Portlet will no longer be able to use JCE 1.2.1. and will error with 500 error.
The workaround we did was to replace the following JCE1.2.1 files with the corresponding files from the JCE 1.2.2 package and then re-boot the UNIX server:-
US_export_policy.jar
jce1_2_1.jar
local_policy.jar
sunjce_provider.jar
We have been told by out DBAs that although it occurred within the Oracle Collaboration Suite, it is actually a Sun Java problem.
Therefore, despite putting this workaround in place, is anyone able to advise if this problem will occur again in the future? Is the workaround sufficient?

Every OCS installation will run into issues with the Calendar Portlet after
July 28, 2005. This will only occur the next time they bounce OC4J components
after July 28, 2005.

The workaround is as follows:
1- Download the JCE 1.2.2 package from the following web page:

2- Remove the following files from the midtier:
$ORACLE_HOME/jdk/jre/lib/ext/US_export_policy.jar
$ORACLE_HOME/jdk/jre/lib/ext/jce1_2_1.jar
$ORACLE_HOME/jdk/jre/lib/ext/local_policy.jar
$ORACLE_HOME/jdk/jre/lib/ext/sunjce_provider.jar
3- Copy the following files from the JCE 1.2.2 package to the
directory $ORACLE_HOME/jdk/jre/lib/ext/ :
jce1.2.2/lib/US_export_policy.jar
jce1.2.2/lib/jce1_2_2.jar
jce1.2.2/lib/local_policy.jar
jce1.2.2/lib/sunjce_provider.jar
4- Complete by issuing opmnctl stopall , opmnctl startall on the middle tier and
test the Calendar Portlet again. Calendar Portlet should now work with the
system date set to past July 28, 2005.

Bug 4452391 Calendar Portlet Authentication Certification (Jce) Expiring July 28th 2005I was unable to access the laptop last night to create a new user; however my client would perfer not to try a second account since that would make it unusable for him while we test the second profile.
Also John Sophos was installed after this started to verify that it was not a virus/malware (I know pointless step but it has happened to me before) so I don't think that is the problem -
Time Machine initial backup fails OS 10.5 with no reason but 'bus error'
I ran into an error on the last system update and had to go back to Leopard 10.5 just to see my stuff. I managed to move my home directory into the newly installed system and all my files are intact. Now I'm trying to get a Time Machine backup before I proceed (my initial mistake was not keeping up with them in the first place).
I had some trouble early on and at one point decided to reformat the external drive (a Fantom Drives GreenDrive, usb, 500Gb). I formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as recommended, no partitions, and then tried my first initial Time Machine backup.
It predictably spent a long time 'preparing...' and I followed along in the system log. Eventually, the copying began but early on (within the first 45 min) the backup failed with almost no indications in the log as to why. I've pasted the system log below.
One thought I had was that it was weird that there was an automatic request for backup at 12:36:54. I also included the CrashReport, but I can't make any sense out of it.

I did format the drive once (with extended journaled format and GUID partition scheme, but I didn't zero it out. I'm trying that now and I'll try TM again in about 4 hours.
This morning I tried turning Time Machine's automatic backups off (moved the slider to off in the preferences pane) and manually started a backup (right-clicking the TM icon in the dock and selecting "Backup Now"). It ran further along than before, but stopped again. This time, it gave an error, and I've pasted the log below. I looked but didn't find much helpful on "error 11."

Time Capsule Backup Fails on one Mac, fine on second Mac
Old MBP backs up fine to TC.
Newish MBA was working, now fails. All other network functions OK. Setup includes second APE (for AirTunes only), doesn't seem relevant/troublesome. Active users are administrators and are variously sharing in/out to other machines, screensharing enabled, B2MM enabled. Both machines running OSX10.5.5 & updated frequently, connected to same WLAN / same TC. Interrupts have occured (shutdowns, crashes, sleeps, and WLAN-switch to 2nd Windows WLAN to exploit W-printer). None of foregoing bothers MBP.
Attempted backup of MBA: TC menu icon displays what looks like letter "A" inside the rotating clock logo. Re-setup of TC via network settings doesn't resolve matters.
Clicking "backup now" results in long delay displaying "preparing" then failure message: Disk Repair / The disk "Backup of MBA was not repairable by this computer + a warning to backup asap & an instruction to re-format TC. Yet - no problem with MBP backup. MBA times out if I attempt to "enter time machine".
Examining Console Logs, I see immediately following MBA bak failure:

I find the above daunting, but can see that (1) it doesn't look much like the messages the MBP generates during successful bak, and (2) the target TC "beluga" seems to have been suffixed "-1" by the MBA and (3) seems to have declared itself read-only.

SchoonerTMMI am having a similar problem. I have my 'old' MacBook backed up on my time machine, since long, and it still backs up on a regular basis.
Every back I try for my 'new' MacBook fails.
I wonder if I need to change something in the set up of the time machine, to have two computers backed up on it?

Time Capsule backup failed, volume read-only, can't delete
I've only been using Time Machine and Time Capsule for 2 months. This week it stopped working. First error message:
"Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while copying files to the backup volume."
Checking the Time Machine preferences, "Last backup" would read "backup failed"
When I got this error, all the wireless functions went offline, even thought the TC light was still green.
I would shut down, shut down the Time Capsule, shut off my modem reboot everything in order.
I would come back online, but after about 20 minutes to 1.5 hours into the next backup, same thing would happen again.
Next error message:
"Disk repair. The disk 'Backup of [my computer]' was not repairable by this computer. It is being made available to you with limited functionality. You must backup your data and reformat the drive."
Then: "Time Machine Error: The backup volume is read only. To select a different volume ... Time Machine preferences ... "
I spoke to someone at Apple, who sent me the Time Machine Troubleshooting page:

Steps I went through:
1. updated my system software
2. updated the TC firmware to 7.4.1
3. dragged the sparsebundle to DiskUtility. It took a while (more than an hour?) but said the disk could not be repaired. When I tried again, the repair function wouldn't run.
4. tried to delete the sparsebundle, but it would choke at almost the end, sometimes it would just crash the finder, sometimes say "Sorry, an unexpected error occurred," sometimes "Operation cannot be completed because the item 'bands' is in use." I even tried to Stuff the bundle with 'delete original' checked, but the stuffing, after about 15 hours, jammed near the end (stuffed 20 gigs of 35 gigs).
5. tried to reselect the TC, and run backup anyways ... now it can't find the volume, back to the error messages and crashing Finder
6. checked password in Keychain, all ok.
Now what??
Do I use Airport Utility to erase it? At least TC is still showing up there. Or press the rest button on the back of the Time Capsule to reset to factory defaults?
I've resigned myself to losing my backups. Now I would just like to get it up and running again.

Yes, open Airport Utility and erase the drive. Once the sparsebundle is corrupted beyond repair there's little more you can do. However, do not reset the TC. Doing so will not erase the drive, but it will remove any custom configurations you may have setup for the router. Only if that part of the TC is also misbehaving should you use the reset button. -

Does anyone know if this service should be running.
I did not know it needed to be running.
