The previous contributor is correct, the profile is usually read from ORACLE_HOME. I have never seen this error linking to the Oracle client directory, please double check the following
Ensure that your envirionment variables are correctly set ORACLE_HOME, DIR_LIBRARY
Brtools are always installed on the DB server and can be called from any application server. if you are scheduling from DB13 on the application server, what is the connection setup? RSH, RFC, standalone gateway?
If using a standalone gateway, it must be installed on the DB server, please refer to oss notes #446172, #1025707

Backup failure from SAP after oracle upgrade
Hi All,
We have upgraded oracle from 11.2.0.1.0 to 11.2.0.3.0 on windows 2008 R2 VM(64 bit). We are able to take backup successfully through BRtools at OS level but when we are trying through DB13 we are getting error as mentioned below.
BR0274E File 'L:\ORACLE\SOC\SAPDATA4\SYSTEM_1\SYSTEM.DATA1' not found
BR0274W File 'K:\ORACLE\SOC\SAPDATA3\TEMP_12\TEMP.DATA12' not found
BR0314E Collection of information on database files failed
Our BRtool verison is 18 so I think SAP note 1625038 doesn't address our problem.
We have placed the utl file in the new oracle home and also did some other required changes.
Kindly suggest how we can resolve this problem.
Regards,
MridulHi Sunil,
We haven't did any modification in utl file, just placed that in new oracle home and modified the location of utl parameter file in initsid.sap.

Behaviuor in reading logs from DB13 - redo log backup for DB
Hi all,
I have a question ,
We have scheduled redo log backup using HP DP Tool.
When I am reading a backup log from DB13 , I am facing the weird behavior.
copy, delete, save
0000
aeomzyok.cds
copy, delete, save
0001
aeomzyoh.cds
Where ever the RC is 000 I am able to read the log files available at OS level . But not able to read the log for other RC.
Please help me to understand this
Thanks,
GnanaHi Gnana.
Use the latest BR*Tools as there were problems with permission issues while creating logfiles. In the latest BR*Tools version, the different logfiles are created with predefined permission levels that suits to SAP needs.
Also it worth to check if the BR*Tools executables hav the correct ownership.

System is not coming up in MSCS environment after offline backup from DB13
Hi All,
SAP system is not coming up after DB offline backup from DB13.
Here are the details of system. SAP XI 3.0 SR1 NW04 running on Microsoft clustered environment windows 2003 and Oracle 9.2.0.6.
My observations:-
1. All the services of cluster admin was up except XE1.World when DB offline backup completed (executed through DB13).
2. services.msc entry OracleXE1920TNSListener (automatic start) and OracleServiceXE1 (automatic start) was down.
and sqlplus "/as sysdba" was failing with ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error.
Please note gw/netstat_once parameter is alredy there with value 0.
Further I would like to add, when I started cluster admin service XE1.World by right click - bring online, services.msc entry OracleServiceXE1 came up, but OracleXE1920TNSListener was still down, then I started listener from cmd mode lsnrctl start.
Kindly suggest.
Thanks & Regards
Praveen Verma

How to restore the backup which we taken from db13 ?
Hi .........
I am taking full back up from DB13 to hard disk and tape drive every day.
Please tell me how to restore this backup which is taken from db13.
4.7E, MSSQL , Windows 2003 server.
Gayatry. If its the same server you took the backup from the backup history for the DB will be stored against it. If its a different server you will need to catalog the backup tape to read in the history/contents.
Lets assume its the same server, with the same file locations.
From SQL Ent Mgr - with SAP stopped.
right click the DB
select restoredb
select the set you want to restore from the history
select the options you need (ie leave off line for addition TL restore, or bring online)
It really is that simple - you cant go wrong (assuming you select the correct set!) -

Oracle Backup to the external medium from DB13 via FTP
Hi oracle experts!
I have difficulty by setting up the the backup to the remote directory (on Unix Server) via FTP from DB13 on Windows (Enterprise Server 64 bit).
The parameters I have set up are in initDBSID.sap:
backup_dev_type = stage
stage_root_dir = folder/subfolder/DEV (important with \ it does not work)
archive_stage_dir = folder/subfolder/DEV (important with \ it does not work)
stage_copy_cmd = ftp
remote_host = myremotehost
remote_user = "user password"
My problem is that all the files creating by backup or redo logs are stored under folder/subfolder and NOT as desired on folder/subfolder/DEV.
Can some one describe how the desired path to the directory myremotehost\ \folder\subfolder\DEV can be created for backup?
Which parameters in init<DBSID>.sap are responsible for this issue?
Thank you very much indeed
Regards
AxelHi!
Of course I have set these parameters.
My problem is that I execute backup from Windows to remote Unix-share via FTP.
The file names are very strange e.g. S3FV1~6
The second problem is that the files will bw written to the wrong directory
(I have set the path to "sap/backup" and hte files wil be written to "sap").
The third problem I have: I habe two SAP Systems installed on the same host.
If I execute redo logs archive from DB13 I get the error "no files processing".
How can I set up this issue?
Thank you very much

Time Machine backup failure on case-sensitive disk?
Hello,
I just started getting a Time Machine backup failure error that says "A disk you are backing up is case-sensitive, but the backup disk is not."
None of my external disks have changed and I've not added any new ones.
The error seems to be stemming from the fact that I'm logged in as multiple users on my system, all with MobileMe accounts. When I "get info" on all mounted disks, the only ones that are reporting "Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled)" are the mounted iDisks from the other use accounts that I'm currently logged in as.
Does this mean I cannot use Time Machine while logged in as multiple users, all with the iDisks mounted? That would be a major annoyance to either have to log out/log in to each user as I need them or to disable iDisk syncing in my MobileMe prefs.
Regards,
TerryThat seems odd to me; my iDisk shows WebDAV as the format and doesn't interfere with backups, but I don't have any other users' iDisks, either.
Another possibility would be to reformat your TM drive as case-sensitive. That would, of course, erase all your backups so TM would start over from scratch, and some possible troubles when restoring (see the pink box in #5 of the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum, for details); but you'd no longer have the backup problem. -

SantanuHi
Are u taking the offline backup on disk or tape. Your log seems to be mentioning it to be on tape. Anyways, have you set the /oracle/SID/102_64/dbs/initSID.sap file parameters accordingly. Also the log says that there has been a user intervention to stop the backup. Did you press Cntrl C in the process. Offline backups to tape is a bit tricky aand even we are fighting on this. I would suggest taking it on disk and then transferring it to tape.

How to perform a Oracle-Offline-Backup started from within SAP in Cluster
Hello,
I didn't find a solution on web (at SAP/SUN/newsgroups) for the following problem:
environment
- offline-backup of Oracle-database (database of an SAP-R/3 ERP-system)
- Sun Cluster 3.1 environment (SUNW.oracle_server:3.1, SUNW.oracle_listener:3.1, SUNW.sap_ci_v2)
- backup should be started from within the SAP R/3 scheduler (SAP transaction: db13)
- Oracle-RMAN-backup with Legato networker 7.1
- SID of SAP-system: Q22
problem
When SAP starts the backup-job (scheduler: db13, type: Full database offline backup >> option: offline_force) the brbackup commands shuts down the database and starts RMAN-backup. But then the Sun Cluster sees that the database is down and starts it up. This action of the cluster crashes the backup.
Now I found a tricky solution for that problem:
1.
Install sudo because the following script will not be run as root...
2.
run visudo and add this line (the scheduler db13 uses the OS-user <SID>adm)
q22adm ALL=NOPASSWD: /usr/cluster/bin/
3.
make a shell-script which should reside on a global mount:
/sapmnt/Q22/MB/offline_backup_Q22.sh
#!/bin/sh
/usr/local/bin/sudo /usr/cluster/bin/scswitch -n -j Q22db-srv
sleep 10
/usr/sap/Q22/SYS/exe/run/brbackup -u / -c force -t offline_force -m full -p initQ22rmanoffline.sap
/usr/local/bin/sudo /usr/cluster/bin/scswitch -e -j Q22db-srv
4.
edit the table sapr3.sxpgcotabe in the Oracle-database and add an entry like:
NAME: ZOFFLINEBACKUP_Q22
OPSYSTEM: ANYOS

=============================================
when I checked my previous DB13 successful logs I saw that next message is
Shutdown of database instance CYP successful
Obviously it gave me idea that might be database was not closing out successfully. then I checked and compared my oracle alert logs but havent found very obvious changes their. Please check below messages of alert log. First set of messages are of successful backup and next set is of my recently failed backup

I used to schedule backup at 3 AM but when I came to office next morning my oracle instacne was in idle mode. I checked ps -ef OS command and saw process of brbackup was still there and not a single byte had been taken as backup.
Please help me if you have any clue.
