Backup File not Capturing

I have been using a Maxtor backup file to hold all of the video files when I log and capture. My first Maxtor is finally now full of video. I do not want to lose this video so I bought another Maxtor. I select this Maxtor to capture the scratch disks. When I hit Log and Capture an error message comes up stating that it is an "Unknown File." Any help is appreciated.

Open up Disk Utility. It will be in either your Applications or Utilities folder on the system drive.
Select the new drive from the list on the left side,
then select ERASE
Format: Mac OS Extended
For media disks, I'd leave journalling OFF
give it a useful name
BEFORE you say OK, Double check you are erasing and reformatting the correct drive & make sure you have nothing on the disk you want to save as reformatting will erase the disk ... then go for it.
good luck.

  • N95 backup file not recognized after Firmware upda...

    Hi,
I've been updating my N95 from V11 to V12.0.013 right after I did a backup file. Backup went ok and no error reported.
After fw update, I tried restoring data but Content Copier informs that "no earlier backup file exists for this phone".
I've tried selecting folder where back-up file is saved but it does not recognize it.
I was using PC Suite 6.83 and decided to upgrade to 6.84 just released, to have another try but it still doesn't find backup file, eventhough it exists (2007-07-12 Nokia N95.nbu)
Could you please instruct if there are some specific steps to go through in such case??
I'm using XP, Service Pack 2
    PC Suite 6.84

    Many thanks!

P.S.: If needed I could send mentionned backup file but it is huge (42MB)

  • Backup file not found

I wanted to restore just the appointments file to my 8310, so I used the Advanced button.  However, the Desktop Manager could find no backup file.  That is the window on the left remained empty.  As a test, I backed up my BB and it went to the same folder as the backup file I wanted the DM to find.  The DM couldn't even recognize the backup file I just saved.
If I use the Restore (instead of the Advanced) button, it can find the files.  But I only want to back up the appointments.
    Any suggestions?
    John

The default location the backup saved to is your My Documents folder. So if you do a File | Open browse to My Documents to see if you see the IPD file with the data that you did the backup on

  • Ipod serving to backup files: not working

Recently my computer was having issues so I used the system restore tool to bring it back to the state it was when I bought it. Before doing this however, I put some of my documents/games/folders on my ipod as a backup as I didnt have another hard drive available to me at the time. About 9 gigs worth of stuff. I tested to make sure I could access my files before I cleared my system. Within about two hours, after deleting the preloaded crapware and loading necessary programs I opened up my ipod as a disk only to find that I could not access my files. I am getting errors such as
    "the parameter is incorrect"
"cannot read from source file or disk"
It is an 80gig classic 6g.
I can still access all of my music and movies that are on the ipod right now so I know that the drive is not corrupted. I have tried google to find help, but the results I get all have to do with copying music from the ipod or copying files onto the ipod rather than taking files from the ipod and putting them onto one's computer.
My computer is a dell B130
    1.8ghz
    1gig ram
windows xp home edition service pack 3
Thanks to all that can offer any help.

  • Bbb backup file not listed 'Select a backup file to restore'

    Hello Forum
Today i made a full backup of my z10. After that i installed  OS10.3 and wanted to import (parts) the backup via BB Link. That did not work; Link could not 'see' the bbb-file.
So I reinstalled 10.2 and tried the same thru BB Link. Did not work either.
BB backupextractor could not read the file ('can not read it as a zip file')
Winrar says 'unexpected end of archive' and cannot extract even one single file.
The bbb file in itself is 2.79gb
    What to do?

Not my expertise but I am replying because no-one replyed, maybe after reading this post someone who knows more will reply.
Winrar creates rar or zip files so backup cannot read those files, maybe if you delete those files but keep them in the recycle bin just in case (because you can open them and see your data) then see if backup can read the bbb file if you have one, as you did say the bbb file is 2.79 gb.

  • Cannot Remove Backup files - not enough memory to support this procedure

I Have SL510 and Windows 7 Proffessional. When I go to Thinkvantage R&R and click advanced dropdown box to delete backups there are no backups shown which can be deleted. I can however view backups but there are no buttons to delete. I'm stuck with 120GB of backups out of total capacity of 280Gb
    Help please.

I have now eventually found a way to see the backups and to tick the box to delete selected backups. After running for a while I get a message that the system does not have enough memory to support this procedure.

  • Time Machine backup files not able to access

Before Reinstalling  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5, I have made my WD My passport 1TB as Recovery HD and then took time machine backup.
After Re-Installing  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5, I am not able to see any of the content in my HD.
I tried to connect Timemachine using Migration Assitant to connect my HD but still it is taking long time.
How can I get back my data in HD to reinstalled Mac.?

There are actually 3 passwords on the Time Capsule - assuming it has the same setup as my Airport Extreme Base Station.
One password for the WiFi connection.
One password to access setup of the device
One password for access to the storage drive - most people leave the check-box to just use the base-station setup password again.
And, as I said before, you also have the option to encrypt your TM backups.  So even if somebody runs off with the device and breaks in to the disk, it will all be garbage without the TM password.
This is the screen as it is on my computer:
As you can see, to access my drive I have it set to use the device setup password.
Here is a screen shot of the other options:

  • Backup file not updating!!

I just lost a day's worth of work when Captivate 5 crashed and the .bak file had not been updating as I saved.  If I delete the .bak file, a new one does get created, but Captivate help says that this file should get updated every time I save the project, and it isn't.  Is anybody else experiencing this?
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
The answer to your question "Should "modified date" on the .bak file follow the modify date on the main .cptx file?"
is "No", so when you do a Save, captivate first copy's the existing .cptx to ".bak" every time (except for the first save becasue the .cptx is not present before first save), then captivates saves the project as the cptx.
So the "Date Modified" time of .cptx will be the current time and that of the .bak file will be the time of last save operation.
So essentially the .bak file is not the same as the .cptx but it is a copy of previous save opereation.
    >> "And another big thing: if Captivate crashes during opening or saving of a project (which it does), it not only can corrupt the .cptx file, but it also sometimes corrupts the .bak file"
I have never experienced this, but of course I always work on my local drive and never on network shared one's.
And because the captivate copy's the cptx file to .bak, before starting the requested save operation, the .bak file will get corrupt only when the previous cptx itself was corrupt OR if the file copy operation corrupted it (which at least does not happen when I work on local drive)

    Rahul

  • Files not optimized disappearing?

Then they were optimized weren't they? This message only appears for me when opening files not captured in FCP 5.

  • Error: File just captured could not be read and was deleted after capture.

I was just recording an extremely important interview. I have recorded literally 10.000 recordings before with the same setup, every day, over a period of some three years now. I'm recorging DV PAL through SDI input on a AJA KONA LS card.
It seemed to be going well last night while recording but as soon as I pressed 'Esc' to end the capture I got an error message saying (not exactly in these words) : Error: The file just captured could not be read.
The file couldn't be found anywhere on the HD or in the trash. Usually when something goes wrong during capture, you can find the file in the capture folder named 'filename-av'. Not this time, I have never seen this error message before.
The person being interviewed was absolutely furious and said he would not do the interview again. So I'm up against the wall here, and need to recover the files.
What's more, the problem still persists. When I try capturing again, as soon as I stop the same error occurs. So now my FCP is not capturing anymore
I tried running Data Rescue 3.1 and found the recording in deleted files, but:
    1. the recording is in several parts (not sure if it's all there, but probably most of it)
    2. Data Rescue 3 interprets the files as .dv files, as opposed to .mov files as all my other recorded material.
    3. THERE IS NO AUDIO IN THE .DV FILES, which pretty much nullifies the file recovery altogether.
I tried googling this error, but it did not help much:
    1. None of the people were capturing the same way I do (most were capturing from tape, none straight through KONA SDI input)
    2. There was no solution to prevent the error.
    3. No solution to recover the files either.
I must say, this experience really taught me the essence of Murphy's law: 'Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong at the worst possible moment'
Any suggestions as to the reasons for this?
Any suggestions as to how the files can be recovered?

    Good news!
I beleive I have found the cause and solution.   At least now I am able to reproduce the problem at will and therefore, hopefully prevent it.
I discovered that there is nothing wrong with my AJA KONA setup, as I was able to capture with both QuickTime movie capture and Adobe Premier just fine.  But every time I try capturing in FCP I get unreadable capture files (since 2 days ago).
Trying all possible capture settings, capture presets or easy setups did nothing.  (although capturing thru Firewire still works every time).
I was about to give up when I noticed that where I usually have my video scopes window running, for convenience sake, under it the Voiceover utility was running.
So here is the deal:  Usually when you try and capture with the Voiceover utility running, you can't. FCP wont allow you to capture, it will return an error message saying: 'Log and capture can not be opened while Voice Over is running. Please close Voice Over and try again.'  As it turns out, this warning is probably for a good reason.
    BUT...
If you shut down FCP with Voice Over running and start it up again THEN you CAN run Log and Capture at the same time... everything looks OK, until you stop the recordin, then you get an error message saying your recording is screwed.
I tried this over and over again,  every time it behaves the same way.  Shutting down with VO util>starting up again>recordings get screwed  .. close VO utility>back to normal operation.
I'm not sure if it was the VO utility the last time this happened (few weeks back), but it might very well be.  I might not have noticed that the VO utility was running as it was hidden behind the videoscopes and there are no warnings when running Log and Capture if you start up FCP with VO utility still running.
My educated guess to what is going on is that the VO utility is taking up priority over the sound inputs and by doing so making the audio of the capture unreadable.  This theory is supported by the fact that when my data recovering experts found the recordings on the HD, there was no audio on the files, but the video was intact.
The only reason setting up the AJA drivers helped in the past was probably because that flushed the FCP settings and in doing so closed the VO utility window. How very ironic
Hope this helps someone out there. And I hope Apple find a way to prevent this from happening.
    cheers!

I am trying to get space on an external hard drive which has some old time machine back up files that I do not need but can not eliminate, even by going into the time machine, clicking on the backup file to be eliminated and using the drop down menu with the gear box symbol to eliminate

I cannot find this 300GB "Backup" in the Finder, only in the Storage info when I check "About This Mac".
You are probably using Time Machine to backup your MacBook Pro, right? Then the additional 300 GB could be local Time Machine snapshots.  Time Machine will write the hourly backups to the free space on your hard disk, if the backup drive is temporarily not connected. You do not see these local backups in the Finder, and MacOS will delete them, when you make a regular backup to Time Machine, or when you need the space for other data.
See Pondini's page for more explanation:   What are Local Snapshots?   http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
I have restarted my computer, but the information remains the same. How do I reclaim the use of the 300GB? Why is it showing up as "Backups" when it used to indicate "Photos"? Are my photos safe on the external drive?
You have tested the library on the external drive, and so your photos are save there.
The local TimeMachine snapshot probably now contains a backup of the moved library.  Try, if connecting your Time Machine drive will reduce the size of your local Time Machine snapshots.

  • Can not restore from a backup in Time Capture

I reinstalled my computer because some reason. The automatic time machine was always run on this Mac, and I am sure it did a backup just ten minuets before I started to install.  However, I found that I am not able to restore from backup. I can see the computer name but there is a short phase "No Volumes found in this Backup".
I also tried to open the backup file by Finder from anther Mac, but I failed with a notice "Some resource not available".
How could I do to save my data and files???

iTunes told me to delete my backup folder when I was having problems syncing my phone to my computer. After that it wouldn't work at all. After trying and trying I deleted iTunes when it said "iTunes could not back up iPhone because the backup could not be saved on the computer"and now it wont let me install it again and keeps saying "itunes cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in the cabinet ". What the **** itunes? Nothing is working!!
I wanted to update my iTunes so I could sync my phone to my computer and update my phones software so I can use the latest apps that need a 4.2 or higher.
This is not fun for me so if anyone knows what I can do to fix this please help. Is it possible to download the "cabinent file" with the lastest iTunes?
    Thank you.

My phone is the iPhone4 and my computer is a Windows Vista

I doubt that corrupt files are the problem. It is more likely a space or permissions issue. Is the hard-drive on which iTunes is stored close to capacity? Do you (or the particular user profile you have logged on with) have the requisite permissions to save to that drive?
Otherwise, do you get an error code? This might point us in the right direction.

I have an iMac purchased in May 2011.  OSX Lion 10.7.3.  I deleted backup file from the external hard drive which operates from Time Machine.
Now, the trash can will not empty some of the files deleted from the backup harddrive.
The trash contains-- File folder: "Core Services" which contains a locked file: "boot.efi".
    It will not delete.
How do I get the trash can empty of these files?

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?
