Backup Firmware

I would like to upgrade my firmware for my WRT160N router. Linksys' firmware download says it is only for XP or Vista. I have Win 2K on my PC.
Should I risk doing the upgrade?Also...
Is there a way to backup my current firmware in case the new firmware doesn't work?  Backing up my config will not include the current firmware so is there another way?
Will my install disk have the original firmware to restore in case things go wrong?
Thank you!

Update... I found the original firmware under the updated firmware on Linksys' website.  Downloaded the new firmware even though I'm running Win 2K. I'll post my other problem in another post.

  • How do I install a firmware upgrade on a 300 series switch?

I have downloaded the ros file, but can't find how to apply it. I know this information must be out there, but can't find it. Thanks

    Hello Henry,
Once logged into the switch you will want to go to the following location Administration > File Management > Upgrade/Backup Firmware.
From here you will select the file you downloaded and upload it to the switch. Once this process is complete, the firmware will now be located on the switch on image 2.
You will then go to the Active Image tab right below. From here you will change to image 2. Please make sure to save your configuration at this point and then reboot the switch.

  • SG 200-08p Wont upgrade firmware

I have a fleet of the SG-200-08P switches which are way behind on firmware. I went to upgrade them to the newest firmware available:
         "sx200_fw_1.3.7.18.ros"
After about a 5-7 minute wait, the web interface returned the message (tired multiple times):
"Firmware Image download through HTTP failed. Wrong File Type."
I reset the router, same results. I went and installed the second most recent verson, "SG200-08x_FW_1.0.7.4.stk", which installed without any issues. Then tried the "sx200_fw_1.3.7.18.ros" file and again with the same result:
"Firmware Image download through HTTP failed. Wrong File Type."
I then did a factory reset and tried again, same results. It seems that none of my routers want to use the .ros files, it preferes the .stk files. What am I doing wrong?
I'm accessing the upgrade feature via "Main Menu -> Administration -> Upgrade/Backup firmware" and have it set to:
      X - via Http
      X - Upgrade
      X - Firmware image
    Please HELP!!!

Thanks for the info. I was working off another post where someone laid claim to installing the 1.3.x firmware on their sg200 to enable SNMP protocols for Spiceworks Management software.
Does this mean there is no SNMP options for the SG200-08P switches?

for my understanding, the phone is crashed during upgrade.

See if you can get to the following
    1. Cold reboot the phone
    2. When the animation appears
    3. Press speaker key 3 times
    4. will be show a list of menu, from there
       a. could reset the configuration

  • How to solve iPhone OS 3.1 problems by downgrading back to 3.0.1

I had problems with my battery dying after 15 minutes of use, the phone not waking up from sleep mode, and cell signal problems after downloading OS 3.1 and iTunes 9. The problem couldn't be solved immediately because iTunes 9 deletes your previous iPhone backups on Macs. I successfully restored my phone to the 3.0.1 software (easily) after reading through a bunch of long processes on the Internet and trying a simpler way. Here are the steps:
    1. Find your backup files on your Mac, it should be a cube icon with a name similar to "iPhone1,13.0.1_7A400Restore.ipsw" The numbers after "iPhone1,1_" tell which firmware version it is. My files were in the trash, If you deleted your trash since downloading iTunes 9 it may not be there anymore. You can always do a search in Spotlight to find the backups, in case it's in a different location.
    2. If you don't have this backup on your hard drive because of deleting it, I read that you can download it from the Internet. However, I don't know how safe this part is. Google the term "downgrade iPhone 3.1 to 3.0" to find a site that has the 3.0 firmware.
    3. Once you find or obtain the restore file/firmware, remember it's location or simply drag it to the Desktop to find it quicker. Open iTunes and connect your iPhone. THE MOST IMPORTANT PART is to hold Option (Alt) and Click the Restore button (Without Option-Clicking the Restore button, you will only be able to restore to the 3.1 firmware). This brings up a screen to find the file on your hard drive. Click the backup/firmware from the location that you had to remember or from the Desktop, and your iPhone will restore back to firmware 3.0.1 and not cause your phone to be useless anymore
    Hope this helps.

I forgot to add that the new update 3.1.2 did not help with any of the problems that 3.1.1 did.

  • Clip+ not recognised by Windows 7 any more but charges it?

Hi. Firstly I have never had a problem before but recently when connected to Windows 7 the Clip+ starts charging but Windows does not recognise it. It is shown in Devices. I have tried all the methods of resetting suggested (hold down power button 20 seconds - 2mins some time), holding Power and Menu button and receive message "do you want to remove old firmware press centre button for OK" and I have done that too, still nothing works. As Windows doesn't recognise it I can't remove, reinstall or install new firmware. Tried different USB ports and leads. When starting up with Micro SD Card inserted Clip+ just hangs so I can't use the Clip+ at all now. Help please, thanks. Chris

Maybe you just got a lemon. At this point I'd suggest a replacement or a phonecall with tech support.
    Some other thoughts:
Are your new mp3s properly tagged? Have you gone down the Music options to see if they are visible in Folders?  If there are no tags (or ID3v2.1 tags or, I think, ID3v2.4 tags) then Artist, Album, etc. won't be listed.
You're right about the power-center-menu offering the option to clear the firmware. Had no idea.
I have to wonder if doing that has contributed to your problems, since the firmware is the operating system for the unit, but you've said you were still getting the menus, settings, etc., so there must have been backup firmware on there.
One other thing you might try is a non-Windows 7 computer, preferably XP, which doesn't have a lot of the security obstacles of Vista and WIn7. Put it in MSC, see if it connects, and if miraculously it does, drag over a new firmware, unzipped from this thread using the Manual instructions:

  • SG300-28 How update boot from file rfb - version 1.3.5.06

I download to my switch SG300-28 new firmware version 1.3.5.58 I package zip i found two file:
sx300_fw-13558.ros   - this is the firmware
sx300_boot-13506.rfb  this is the boot code
    I upgrade firmware by WEBGUI swicth. ADMINISTRATION>FILE MANAGEMENT>UPGRADE/BACKUP FIRMWARE/LANGUAGE
But i dont know how i can upgrade BOOT from WEBGUI or other... Please help me a tell my how-step by step.

    Hello.-
After reading release notes and some experiences in this forum, I am really worried about upgrading a SG300 firmware 1.1.2.0 to version 1.3.5.58. Release Notes points out that you have to update the boot loader before the firmware. However some users report that they had to reconfigure the switche after the upgrade.
    My concern are.
    - Is it necesary to boot the switche after upgrading the boot loader ?. This is not going to be a problem with the old firmware?.
    - Can I apply the confirguration backup after the firmware upgrade or is necesary to reset to factory default and do it from scratch ?.
    Thanks.

  • Successful update this morning.

Although I successfully downloaded 2.0 on Friday (after several attempts) and 3 apps, I decided not to install them. I've been monitoring this discussion group since then.
This morning I decided to give it a go.
The preparation/backup/firmware install etc took about 20 minutes. It rebooted the phone, then did a restore of my music and videos which took another 20-25 minutes.
It did not install the apps, it only restored all of my previous data, settings, music, etc. I had to manually do a sync for iTunes to install the 3 apps that I downloaded on Friday.
Everything went smoothly. All of my data, settings, and apps are there and working fine. I only had to turn Passcode Lock back on.
PUSH in ON by default, so I immediately went into Settings and turned it off. If I experience excessive battery drain I will update this post. So far, WiFi strength, load times, overall performance speed do not seem to be affected.
Although I can't say for sure whether it was necessary, I did download the latest version of iTunes from Apple and not via software update. I also used my original Apple USB cable and not a 3rd party cable that I once used on a previous software update (which crashed).
I feel guilty being the bearer of good news when so many people have had so many problems. Believe me, I've had my share of problems in the past, but this morning's update worked fine.

  • Backup Problem with Firmware Change

*I'm running Windows Vista with my iPod Touch 2G.
I just downgraded my firmware from 3.1.1 to 3.0 but now when I try to backup my old iPod backup it tells me it cannot backup the data because the (recently downgraded firmware) software is too old.
Is there a way to backup my old applications and music without sticking with 3.1.1 firmware?
Or is the only option putting my apps back manually onto my iPod? I had both my apps and my music backed up before I reverted to 3.0 firmware.
Thanks for your time in advance!

Just cancel it. its just downloading and not installing to phone yet so no harm will happen. Something on your computer is creating problems for your download. Most likely the AV and firewall software of the LAN settings.

  • E63 doesn't initialize after backup and firmware u...

Hello, I live at Brazil (don't worry at the English mistakes) and I bought some weeks ago a Nokia E63 cellphone. I updated its firmware and it stopped working after I restored the backup.
I used the Nokia Software Updater, and it showed that I could update my cellphone (from version 2xx to 4xx). I did all the program told me to do: I did a backup of the cellphone using the PC Nokia Suite and I removed the memory card. Nokia downloaded the data and installed them, without problems or pauses. The cellphone's screen looked normal, like a cellphone in factory default.
After that, I restored the backup I had done. After the process, PC Suite told that cellphone would restart. After the restart, the cellphone stop to work properly, and showed the message: "Error in the cellphone initialization. Contact the seller". I tried to connect it to PC Suite or to Nokia Software Updater, but neither can see the phone.
Since it's a software problem, I thought it can be solved in another way than sending it to Nokia support. I searched over the Internet looking for some tips, but I could find nothing.
Can you help me? Thank you for reading this,
    Gláuber M. O. Nunes
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Pull out the battery and memory card if you got one and wait 5 min. The put your phone back together and try starting it.
If it won't start normal, try pulling out the memorycard and reboot without it. If the phone starts without the memorycard - you will need to format the memorycard.
If your phone won't boot properly anyway, you should perform a hard reset. This will wipe your phone memory, but after all you've backed up. (Note that there could be a issue with the back up).
