Backup Freezes

Trying to back up my music library but the backup freezes after first disk.  Won't release the disk.  Have to quit itunes to get the disk out which then renders the backup useless and the disk wasted.  Any suggestions?  I've tried different media and different drives.

Same here - when I backup my E71 it goes through the process but says there is an error. When I look at the report it says the following could not be backed up (or soemthing like that) and then there is nothing listed. So what the problem was I don't know. Worse the phone is dead and does not respond to any key presses. All I can do is take the battery out. This has happened 3 times in a row.
I'm using PC Suite 7.1.18 - the latest version.
The phone was also flashed with the latest version a few days ago, though I don't knwo what that is.

  • Using iMovie 6.0 backups freezes my computer

    Ever since I downloaded the latest iTunes update my iMovie 6.0 backups freeze on my new La Cie 1 Terabit hard Drive. I can escape iMovie 6.0 but I can't reopen it, and I can't shut down my computer internally.

    Thanks for the suggestion. I went on the Lacie website and got the manual and followed the initialization process and partioned the disk drive even though I didn't need to. This seemed to work.

  • Elements 10.0 Backup Freezes

    I just purchased and installed Elements 10.0 and successfully imported/converted my catalog from Elements 8.0.  I'm running on a high-end HP computer under Windows 7.  With Elements 8.0, I had the problem that I couldn't do a full backup -- the system would just hang saying it was "preparing for the backup".  When I launch Microsoft Task Manager to check activity, it says Elements is not responding and my CPU level is near 0% (although sometimes it freezes at about 12% CPU on Elements, even though it says it's not responding).  I tried letting it sit for a couple hours, and nothing.  I assumed (incorrectly) that this issue would be fixed with 10.0, but I still have the same problem.  My catalog is rather large (about 25GB with 30,000 pics and small videos).  Organizer works fine for me except for the backups (haven't gotten to the Restore feature yet, so not sure about that functionality).  Can someone help?

    Some people have found that problems with some of the media files caused the backup to fail.
    Check the thumbnails in Organizer for any media files without thumbnails and either use "Update Thumbnail" or moving those files out of Organizer's catalog.
    You can also try moving the videos out of the catalog.

  • Restoring iPhone from backup freezes my computer

    I need to restore my iPhone from a previous backup (I think it's corrupt). When I plug it into my PC, it works normally. Everything syncs correctly to iTunes and works as expected. When I go to restore from a previous backup, it looks like it'll work fine, but midway my PC will freeze every time, forcing me to shut it down completely. The iPhone does restore part of the way, but acts as new when it comes to alarms, notes, passwords, home screen, contact ring tones, etc.
    This has happened to EVERY iPhone I've ever used (3). I've reinstalled iTunes several times, updated drivers, updated USB drivers, ran iTunes in "safe mode" ... I've tried everything I can think of and research. Why will it freeze my computer every time with every iPhone???
    The version of iPhone I'm currently using is 4S (but I've also tried with 3G and 4), firmware is up to date, iTunes is 10.6.3.25.
    My computer is a PC that uses Windows 7.
    If you have any other advice, I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks

    Obviously, the problem is with your PC.  Try creating a new user account and see if you have the same problem. If you don't, then the problem is in your user profile. If you do, you're going to have to dig deeper. Try a Windows forum or one dedicated to your specific make/model PC.

  • TM Network Backups Freezing up Host computer....

    In my workgroup we have set up a 10.6 Mac Mini as a network backup for several other macs. There's three of us backing up our 10.6 Macs to a RAID1 array connected to the Mini via Firewire.
    Everything works great as long as the Mini is available, but we're running into a problem any time someone logs out or shuts down their machine while Time Machine is backing up. The host machine (the Mini) freezes up when this happens and has to be rebooted each time.
    Since not all of our users are tech savvy, we're not sure that simply training them to stop a backup job first before logging out is going to work.
    Has anyone else dealt with this? Is there any way to make the host Mini more robust in dealing with a dropped backup job?

    normally, TM should stop a backup cleanly when the computer shuts down and users don't need to do this manually. logging out should not interrupt a TM backup at all. but try using this link
    http://systemsboy.com/2008/04/time-machine-after-logout.html
    I know it works with external drives but I'm not sure if it will help with a network backup like yours.

  • Upon "Enter Time Machine", viewing of TM/TC backups freezes

    When viewing TM/TC backups, after clicking on "Enter Time Machine", I have to "option/cmd/esc" out of TM/TC to get out of it -- once i've entered into it -- under the following conditions:
    Configuration:
    The freezing is seen in the following configuration: v10.5.4 with TC 7.3.2, APU 5.3.2 (532.8).
    Notes: This is a brand new macbook and TC. I upgraded the OS on the macbook from 10.5.2 (that is what i got from the dealer a few days ago) to 10.5.4 and then applied the latest security patch for 10.5.4.
    I sucessfully did my first full back up (22GB) to TC -- while running 10.5.2/TC 7.3.2/APU 5.3.2 (532.8) -- after I disabled energy saver and turned off airport and went via ethernet cable.
    Note: My "VirusBarrier X5" anti virus software (on the mac os side) is turned off (it was part of the install with parallels/bitdefender).
    I tested three times in each of the following scenarios:
    Notes: (1) In all tests, the TC-to-macbook connection is via AirPort with the devices 12" away from each other. (2) Parrales is not running. (3) VirusBarrier X5 is not running.
    ~~~~
    Test results:
    1. If Time Machine preferences is set to OFF, then upon entering TC, then TC will freeze/hang immediately after clicking on "back up the hour before" (or any other back up or on the "back arrow"). The "cancel" option on the GUI will then not work. WORKAROUND TO GET OUT OF HUNG STATE: option/cmd/esc out of TC. -- FAIL.
    1.1 After performing "option/cmd/esc", the Finder process in Activity Monitor, is seen to transition from "Not Responding" to 0% CPU. (intermittent) -- FAIL.
    1.2 Control test: If Time Machine preferences is set to OFF, then upon entering TC, then TC will NOT freeze/hang if I immediately click on "cancel" in the GUI. -- PASS.
    1.2.1 After clicking on "cancel", the Finder process in Activity Monitor, is seen to transition from 15% CPU to 0% CPU. -- PASS.
    2. If Time Machine prefernces is set to ON, then upon entering TC, then TC will freeze/hang immediately after clicking on "back up the hour before" (or any other back up on the "back arrow"). The "cancel" option on the GUI will then not work. WORKAROUND TO GET OUT OF HUNG STATE: option/cmd/esc out of TC. -- FAIL.
    2.1 After performing "option/cmd/esc", the Finder process in Activity Monitor, is seen to transition from "Not Responding" to 0% CPU. (intermittent) -- FAIL.
    2.2 Control test: If Time Machine prefernces is set to ON, then upon entering TC, then TC will NOT freeze/hang if I immediately click on "cancel" in the GUI. -- PASS.
    2.2.1 After clicking on "cancel", the Finder process in Activity Monitor, is seen to transition from 15% CPU to 0% CPU. -- PASS.
    ~~~~
    Additional notes:
    1. It is observed that when entering TC, the "back up of my macbook" Device is then mounted to the desktop. When clicking "cancel", while doing the control test mentioned above (or even in the failed tests), this Device does not then unmount itself. Is this expected behaviour?
    1.1 The failed and passing test scenarios described above are the same regardless of whether or not the "back up of my macbook" Device is already mounted to the desktop.
    2. In Finder, under SHARED, the "my Time Capsule" share appears to always be in the "Connection Failed" state -- whether or not "back up of my macbook" Device is mounted to the desktop.

    For my issue, I solved it by going into the Preferences of my "VirusBarrier X5" program and adding the "TC" device to "trusted zone" under the "scanner" tab.
    (Even though I made sure that the "VirusBarrier X5" program was closed/quitted -- as viewed from the doc, I still needed to add the "TC" device to "trusted zone" under the "scanner" tab).
    Now, upon "Enter Time Machine", the viewing of TM/TC backups NO longer freezes. I also selected a file and then pressed the restore button and that worked as well.

  • Photoshop Elements Organizer 10 backup freezes at 49%.

    I have a large collection (~80,000) photos.  I have been trying (unsuccessfully) for a week to back up my collection.  Every time it freezes at 49%.  I did all the steps here: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/troubleshoot-catalog-backup-conversion-elemen ts.html  Still freezing. Then I did a complete disk scan/repair and tried all the steps again.  Still freezing.  I am running Windows 7 on a powerful machine.
    I want to move my collection to a new hard drive, so I really do need to use the bulit in backup.  What else can I try?

    thor_x9 wrote:
    I was able to do the backup of just the photos, what can I try with the videos?
    That's very good news.
    Here are a few ideas :
    - from your original catalog, create a copy leaving only the video media types just like what you have done with photo files.
    - generally offending video file types are not with 'common' video formats, rather with cell phone formats.
    - There may be 'corrupted' files, but non recognized formats are probably more common
    -To have a look at the different formats (file extensions), look at the total number of video files and take a note of it.  Use the search by file name, 'files containing' and select a file extension visible in the browsing space (avi, mov...). Take a note of the number of files in each category.
    For each category, select all and hide the files. Continue with the next  category and so on until nothing is visible.
    You'll have all your files extensions with the number of files in each category.
    Now, un-hide all files and make a second copy of your video catalog.
    Try a backup of the video files after having deleted one of the categories. I would start with the less common video formats.
    Try this until the backup works ok : you'll know the offending format.
    A variant of this method would be to select the videos by camera type rather than by format type.
    Something you could do with the video catalog until you have found the offending format or corrupted file(s) : you could try move (from the organizer menu) all the video files somewhere on a new empty master folder as a standard (non PSE backup). You might get significant messages in the process. Be aware that this 'move' may be impossible to 'undo' in case of a problem. A safer variant would be to 'export' instead of 'move'.

  • IPhone Backup Freezes Halfway Through with iTunes

    When connecting my iPhone 4 to a USB 2.0 Port, and attempting to backup, the backup begins and somewhere between start and finish freezes.  The software and the phone still appear to be backing up but it never completes.  I can delete my backup and start from scratch and it will do the same thing.
    I have all antivirus software disabled.  All drivers are up-to-date.  BIOS is most current version for my Dell Desktop.
    Does the same thing if I create a new user and attempt to backup.
    I have uninstalled all iTunes software per the required procedure and reinstalled, still the same result.
    Has anyone experienced this and can shed some light on this for me?
    Thanks,
    John

  • Elements backup freezes

    How do I prevent photshop elements 11 from freezing when backing up. It won't go past "Please wait while Elelments organizer prepares for backup.

    Hi,
    I should have replied back to this post after I found a solution that worked for me.  After looking at many different options, including deleting all of my largest files, reinstalling photoshop, etc., I found that a few other people had success making a new catalog and then copying all the files into that.  I did this and was then able to backup the new catalog with no issues.  Weird.  Adobe should really fix whatever causes this.  It is very irritating.  I would also make sure to write all the keyword tag info to the photos before you make a new catalog and make sure you are set with everything before you even think about deleting the first catalog.

  • Encrypted time machine backup freezes OS X

    Been having fairly regular problems with Time Machine backup to a LaCie 5Big 10TB Thunderbolt drive where OS X 10.8.5 will completely freeze during a backup.
    I've formatted 2 of the 5 drives as 2TB Mac OS Extended (Journaled, Encrypted) in order to perform alternate encrypted Time Machine backups. The other 3 are part of a striped 6TB logical drive. I connect the backup drives about once a week for the past few months and have encountered a freeze during backup a few times.  I currently have a situation where merely attempting to mount one of the Time Machine volumes causes OS X to freeze. Initially the mouse cursor starts to stutter as it is moved around the screen and then it completely freezes. No mouse cursor, no clock, nothing. Have left for a couple of hours and still nothing so have to reboot. There are absolutely no messages in the console for the time of the hang e.g. time of most recent hang 12:55 PM which is when I attempted to mount the drive. Most recent message before the restart 12:49:16 PM.
    The thing is, sometimes the backups work fine for weeks at a time, other times I get these freezes with the same symptoms as above and the only thing that seems to work is reformatting the volume and starting again, although this can take a few attempts to work. I've run a verify disk and currently everything currently seems OK (although can't run for the backup volume as it won't mount, and I've previously had to restore the boot disk due to Disk Verify failing on the boot disk).
    Has anyone got suggestions as to what could be causing this? Options are faulty LaCie 5Big, Time Machine encrypted option, OS X bugs or file corruptions.

    Unfortunately the 5Big only has Thunderbolt connections and I only have the cable it came with as it is my only Thunderbolt device.
    The secure erase single pass of the disk failed with the following error:
    Secure Disk Erase failed with the error: Securely erasing data to prevent recovery failed.
    In the console logs there was the message: Kernel: disk5s2: data underrun
    I ran another erase but without the secure option and immediately got the error:
    Disk Erase failed with the error:
    Unable to write to the last block of the device
    and in console:
    Kernel: disk5: data underrun
    Going to give it another go as I'm not sure if this is as symptom or a cause as I've recently had similar errors on the boot disk (internal SSD) and "Disk0s2 I/O error" occurring in the console. I had to restore the system from backup to resolve that particular issue.

  • Time machine backup freezing up

    I had my time capsule full last month so my two computers kept getting an error when trying to do its scheduled backup. I went on and deleted one of my backup images to make enough room for one computer to use the hard drive. Then for computer one I plugged in a second hard hard and it backed up with no problem.
    Computer two is still set to backup wirelessly to the time capsule but every time I click the option to "backup now" is sits/freezes in the beginning phase "Making backup disk available". Looking at the available space I have : 313.92 gigs of 497.96 gigs free. At this point I have left the computer on for hours, also there is no canceling this process, I can't even do a hard quit; I have to hold the power button to turn off computer.

    Try a "full reset" of Time Machine, per #A4 in [Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Airport.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum).

  • Backups freezing and not completing

    My 2009 iMac with 4GB RAM and Snow Leopard is not completing backups to external drives for iPhoto or Aperture (75GBs each). The backups will initiate and then freeze at some point.  Even running for 24 hours, will not move beyond the frozen spot.  This is only for a new external drive I recently set up, the same backup is completing to a drive that was set up one year ago.  All my other backups (iTunes, applications, home folder, etc) are completing without an issue.  Is there a size limitation on the source back up?

    On the off chance that you're backing up with Time Machine, see Pondini's TM FAQs for starters. Otherwise, provide the salient details.

  • 10.3.1 library backup freezes.

    I'm trying to backup my music library (using DVD's) and when I start the backup, it tells me it needs mulitple disks, and that I would need two.  I've tried the procedure 4 times, and each time, it will freeze and the end of the first disk.  It says to insert a blank disk, but it will not release the one that's in the drive.  The only way I can open the drive is to quit itunes entirely which then renders that first disk, and the backup, useless.  I have two DVD drives, and I've tried each one, same result.  I've tried using different media.....same result.  Any ideas?

    The backup to disc feature has been removed from the application. Use the backup tools supplied with your computer or see this User Tip.

  • Restore TimeMachine Backup freezes

    Hallo
    Yesterday my hard disk crashend on The MacBook. Installed with recovery disk a new version of OS X 10.7. Ran a complete restore on the latest TimeMachine backup. It first went well. After 4 h it reached the point 3 min. to go. It freezes in this position the whole night. What can I do to complete the restore? Otherwise what will happen if I stop the restore by putting out the MacBook?
    Thanks for your help

  • Backup freezing at 69%

    PSE10:  I installed PSE 10 over PSE 9 on a poweful Sony laptop.  PSE 9 has my PSE 8 catalog from another computer by restoring from a backup.
    So far PSE10 has failed to backup properly and freezes at 69%.
    Why?

    Since your catalog is on the same system, you can simply try catalog conversion, if the intent is to continue using your catalog on this Sony laptop (as I assume ! )
    Close all versions of Organizer (Ensure that ElementsAutoAnalyzer, Photoshop Server and Dynamic Link Manager which possibly might be running in background), are not running, by check for them in Task Manager/Activity Monitor.
    Now launch Organizer 10.. File >> Catalogs >> Convert >> Tick the checkbox for 'Show previously converted catalog' >> Choose your catalog from the list and click 'Convert' button.
    See if that helps!
    Thanks
