Backup has lost info

I have just had to restore my 3G phone and used the backup from yesterday when doing this. But none of my SMS messages, notes etc are on the phone. A lot of this information is really important and I can't seem to get it back. Any ideas?

This may help-->  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495

To restore from backup, follow the following steps:
Right-click your iPhone in the "Devices" tab in the left-hand pane and choose "Restore from Backup".
I've made a YouTube video on this, in case you wish to have a visual representation of what is going on.
(Advance: Sorry for the stuttering. It was an older YouTube video I made. I'm posting an update for Mac users soon!)

Upgrading to V4 has lost all of my Bookmarks, I still have the restore files in my profile data but they will not load, I have tried importing the html backup file too but it didn't work either. How can I get them back?

    Ok this is bizzare!
Thank you for your response, I went throught each and every step without any luck, even got the recovery programme, and painstakingly tried to sift through all that mumbojumbo to find what i needed. finally found the bookmark bit, but it had been fully overwritten :(, so on reading about previous ff versions, found the sqlite thingys, and they were relatively unscathed(partly written over, but saveable apparently TG), saved them to adiff drive, amongst other possibly good folders. Then looked up how to install them, and it said to close FF, and install to profile folder.
So i tried to close FF, and the original problem from a few days ago, where it asked me if 'i was sure i wanted to close this window as it has X tabs open', popped up again. This is where 'open blank page' selection was set, over 'open previous tabs'. Wanting to save that info on how to sort out these friggin files, I reset the Option to 'open previous tabs', and closed FF. After unsucessfully searching for the profile folder on my laptop, i opened FF intending to search online for where i could find said folder.
AND BANG, surprise surprise, the FF I had just closed with only tabs open about finding out what the heck to do, had disappeared, and instead my original saved tabs were up, and my bookmarks are there..... I am gobsmacked! what the heck just happened there???
I have made 3 back up in different folders now, of those friggin bookmarks. I am weary now tho of shutting it all down.... what if its back to the other pages I had with no bookmarks, tomorrow :(

  • ITunes has 'lost' Artist info for purposes of viewing/sorting

PLEASE HELP!! Not sure if it has anything to do with iTunes 8 or the new Genius function, however my iTunes library has 'lost' several artists but only when viewing or searching under the 'Artist' listing....the music is all still there but can only can be found when searching under 'Albums' or 'Genre'............Extremely frustrating!!
In addition, while my 60GB iPod Classic (2005) still shows all the information under 'Artist', my brand new 120GB Classic (which has the Genius function pre-installed) is having the exact same issue as my iTunes...has anyone else come across the issue or have any suggestions?
    Many thanks!

...well that was a bloody useful effort.

  • Lost info in notes, how to restore

Lost info in notes, how to retrieve? Phone has not bee n backedup

Yes, firstly you can restore notes from the backup.
iOS: How to back up and restore your content
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
If that is not work, a third party software named iPhone data recovery software can recover deleted notes.

    You should pay for it:)
Next time, please remember to backup your iPhone with iTunes.
    Good luck.

  • Lost info after restoring

I restored my phone and lost a bunch of notes, applications, contacts. Is there anyway to get these back now?

How often do you sync your iPhone with iTunes?
iTunes creates and maintains a backup for your iPhone which is updated if needed as the first step during the sync process - if any of the data on your iphone that is included with the backup has changed since the last sync, which is usually 100% of the time.
Your iPhone's backup includes data such as most iPhone settings, email account settings, contact info, SMS messages, notes, recent calls, call favorites, photos in your iPhone's camera roll, and 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app.
3rd party apps are not included with the backup. 3rd party apps should be in your iTunes library on your computer along with all other iTunes content - music, video, and podcasts.
Contact info and calendar events are designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer. With XP and Vista, this can be with Outlook 2003 or 2007 for contact info and calendar events, and with Windows Contacts for contact info only - the address book used by Outlook Express with XP, and the address book used by Windows Mail with Vista - the name change for Outlook Express with Vista.
When restoring your iPhone with iTunes, your iPhone is erased and the firmware is re-installed. After the firmware is re-installed, you are prompted to restore your iPhone from your iPhone's backup, which is the default selection. The other selection which must be manually selected is restoring your iPhone as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.
Did you restore your iPhone with iTunes on the computer that you normally sync your iPhone with?

  • Adobe cloud has lost connection with the server

Adobe cloud has lost connection with the server, can't get adobe cloud to work so I can re-install photoshop to fix a corrupted DLL file.

    *Adding new items/removing orphans*
Try iTunes Folder Watch or iTunes Library Updater. Folder Watch is much faster on the adding files front, can be set to run in the background and includes a useful exclusion feature, however it’s slow at removing orphans. iTLU is better for this although doing it manually after looking at a list of proposed removals generated by Folder Watch is probably faster still. iTLU can also be set to update iTunes when you've used 3rd party tools to change tag info.
You may need to amend the list of file types these programs look for. My list includes:
    .mp3 .mp4 .m4a .m4b .m4p .m4v .mov .wav .aif .mid .ipa .ipg .ite .itlp .m4r .pdf
Note the last 6 types may not be recognised as already being in the library so should either be omitted from the search or you can add (at least for Folder Watch) individual exclusions for files you know are already in your library.

  • Nokia Ovi Suite has lost connection with your devi...

5 months has passed and many hours on the phone to Nokia. The phone has been completely reset /reboot by Nokia time and time again and still the phone gets this message when trying to update software..."Nokia Ovi Suite has lost connection with your device"....We were optimistic that the software upgrade would solve the other problems we are having with all the Nokia phones at work. They are all E52's

Having the same issue currently with an E72 software version is 054.005.266.02 and Ovi Suite 3.1.1.80
Actually I had connection lost all the time with all previous versions of Ovi Suite too... it has never been reliable.
Using original Nokia USB cable, connected securely. Tried different PCs, different USB ports, same issue.
Just now I'm trying software update and it looses connection during the backup process all the time... very disappointing. Screenshot attached if anybody is interested.

  • E5: Ovi Suite has lost connection with your device...

I am trying to update the software on my E5 using OVI suite but I keep getting an error during the install phase (after backup). The following error and instructions are displayed in the OVI suite window but makes no difference when I follow these instructions (just end up back with the same error).
"Nokia Ovi Suite has lost connection with your device. Follow these steps to help reconnect your device:
    1. Remove USB cable from your device.
    2. Restart the device (turn off and on again).
    3. Re-insert the USB cable.
    4. Click 'Ok' below to continue updating."
Current E5 software version is 042.007.
I am trying to update to E5 software v. 043.115
    Any ideas?

Yep having the same issue. Just got a replacement handset due to the random restarting issue, soon after setting up the new handset I get a message on phone saying software update is available. Both OVI suite and Nokia software updater say version 43.115 is available (about 200mb in size), I currently have the same version as you 42.007. It claims to do a lot of improvements to the handset. The update downloads fine but when it comes to installing I keep getting the same issue. Phone simply will not restart automatically and the update restarts then fails at the same point over and over. Had the same problem with my previous handset.
I spoke with my network provider to see if it was an issue with the handset needing firmware specific to them but they said no it is an issue with the firmware itself and has been happening to everyone since its release!!! They said I should not download it until Nokia has resolved the issues with it. But how do I know when that will happen as I cannot find anything put out by Nokia stating there is an issue or anywhere on web forums saying there is actually a problem.

  • I Tunes has lost a large proportion of my music library.  The music in question is however still on my IPod.  Is there any way to sync backwards so the IPod updates ITunes?  Or is there any other way I can try to recover the lost music files?

I Tunes has lost quite a large proportion of my music library.  I think this may have happened when I tried to download a previous version of ITunes that failed to load.  Whatever, the music is still on my IPod.  Is there anyway files on an Ipod can be transferred back into ITunes?  Or is there any other way I can try to recover my music files?  Also, I no longer have any confidence in ITunes ability to store data efficiently and wonder if there is any way I can back up my IPod outside ITunes?

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself independently backed up against loss.  To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Media syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

  • ITunes library has lost the past year's worth of content, but the files are still in the directory

Help! How do I restore the past 11.5 months' worth of content to my iTunes library?
Well this is weird. Suddenly my iTunes library has lost everything added since late January 2014 - almost a year's worth of content. Podcasts, audiobooks, iTunes purchases, MP3s bought elsewhere and imported, movies, TV shows - all gone. Apps added in the past year also seem to be gone, although apps acquired before then have the most current update. As far as I can tell, all of that content is in the file directory structure - it's just not in the iTunes library system.
Curiously, the "last played" data all seems current, except that many of the more recently played songs have gone missing; tracks that were modified in the past year, but were added in 2013 or before, are still listed as being modified in 2014. Anything changed in the past year remains changed; but anything added in the past year simply isn't there.
I have no idea what caused this. Earlier today iTunes crashed for random reasons, but that happens every week or two anyway; and for that matter this issue could have developed a couple of days ago, and I just didn't notice it. (I'm sure it can't be older than that - I would have noticed.)
I've got good Time Machine backups, but I'm not sure how to go about restoring this - I suspect that this help page tells me the steps I need to take, but I'd like to have some confirmation before going through those steps. (And that procedure doesn't involve Time Machine anyway, right?)
Theoretically I suppose I could also go through my directory and add the files to iTunes, one by one, but it would be extraordinarily complicated to figure out what needed to be added. I'd also like to get back all the metadata - played, unplayed, play count, last played, and so on.
Restoring the files from Time Machine doesn't seem to make sense to me, because the files aren't actually missing. Would restoring an iTunes Library.itl file help at all?
    Thanks in advance!

Hm ... I guess I can't edit the post above. Anyway, I seem to have solved it by ...
    Quitting iTunes.
Going into Home / Music / iTunes, and renaming the file "iTunes Library.itl" to "iTunes Library (corrupt).itl".
Entering Time Machine, and restoring the "iTunes Library.itl" file from a few days ago. I went back two days, which seemed far enough back to be "before" the problem but not far enough back to have trouble with recent acquisitions.
Re-opening iTunes - and everything seemed to be back in order.
So that's fine for now. We'll see if the solution is stable.
Very, very tentative assignment of blame: I believe iTunes crashed earlier today after I'd synced photos from my iPhone to iPhoto, and then iTunes crashed while iPhoto was closing (and taking its sweet time doing so). If that was indeed the case, that's at least the second time in the past couple of months that trying to sync iPhone photos to iPhoto has caused me significant problems. (The last time led to 80% of my iPhone suddenly being occupied by "Other", and a full restore of the darn thing.)

  • "Disk Utility has lost its connection with the Disk Management Tool and cannot continue. Please quit and relaunch Disk Utility."  Trying to format my iomega external HD for use with Mac

Hi. Trying to connect iomega ext. HD. i have to reformat for Mac. When i plug in & go to Disk Utility, the external shows up and i'm supposed to click "partition". When i do, a box comes up saying ""Disk Utility has lost its connection with the Disk Management Tool and cannot continue. Please quit and relaunch Disk Utility." I quit and relaunched, same results. After googling my question, i came up with this:
"Disk Utility has lost its connection with the Disk Management Tool and cannot continue. Please quit and relaunch Disk Utility."
(Quitting and reopening Disk Utility does not help.)
The following also appears in Console log:
*** malloc[419]: Deallocation of a pointer not malloced: 0x290a410; This could be a double free(), or free() called with the middle of an allocated block; Try setting environment variable MallocHelp to see tools to help debug : for architecture i386 object: ./Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes malformed object (unknown flavor for flavor number 0 in LC_UNIXTHREAD command 27 can't byte swap it)
    Workaround
    Quit Disk Utility.
From the Finder's Go menu, choose Go to Folder....
Type the following, then click OK: /Library/Receipts
Temporarily remove these iTunes receipts from /Library/Receipts (sort the folder alphabetically as a list):
    iTunes.pkg
    iTunes4.pkg
You can put them on the desktop, for example. Do not remove iTunesX.pkg or iTunes Phone Driver.pkg.
Open Disk Utility and repair disk permissions again.
    Quit Disk Utility.
Put the removed iTunes receipts back in /Library/Receipts.
Note: This issue does not affect Disk Utility's verify or repair disk features.
All seemed good, for a moment, until, upon going back to Disk Utility after removing itunes4.pkg and putting on desktop (i did not have itunes.pkg to remove) the same thing was happening. When i highlite my iomega ext. on left of page, disk perrmissions is grayed and does not allow me to click on it. Same problem from the start. Can somebody please help me out here? That would soooo awesome. Thanx!

i'm just scared i will do something wrong on my own and lose my data.
You shouldn't be scared of that, because you should already have backups. If you don't have backups, then backing up is the first priority.
Insert the Snow Leopard DVD and restart. When you hear the chime, hold down the C key and keep holding it until the Apple logo appears on the display. You should now see the language selection screen. Select your language, then choose Utilities > Disk Utility from the menu bar. In the Disk Utility window, select the external drive (not the internal). The drive may already have a data partition, in which case there will be another icon below the drive icon. Choose the drive icon, then select the Partition tab. Create a single partition with the default options (GUID partition table, Mac OS X Extended Journaled).
When the partitioning is done, select the startup volume on your internal drive in the DU window. Select the Restore tab. Drag the icon of the startup volume to the "Source" field. Then drag the icon of the newly-created volume on the external drive to the "Destination" field. Make sure you have this right. Then click the Restore button, and the data on your startup volume will be copied to the external drive.

Seems like the iTunes app has lost most of my music. How can I get my music back?

A new version shouldn't do that but it does seem to happen on occasion to a few unlucky ones.  Restore your library from the backup you make of your computer before you install new software.  If you don't have one, this is a learning experience.
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. If all of your media is from iTunes, don't worry about it. You can either transfer everything on your iPad from your iPad to your commputer; and/or you can redownload from iTunes all music and apps, and most of everything else.
If any of your media is from other sources, that's not so easily recoverable. If it's on your iPad, you can transfer it to your computer via a third-party application such as Senuti. (There are many alternatives to Senuti, some work just as well and are free.) Anything from non-iTunes sources and not on your iPad is completely gone, unless you have CDs or other physical media from which you obtained it stored somewhere.
At least now you know how important it is to have a backup.
