Backup in EM 11g

Hello,
I have a question about performing backup in Enterprise Manager, database 11.1.0.6 running on Linux.
In 10.2, there were options 'Backup mode (online/offline), backing up archivelogs. I don't see them in 11.1 (i do Schedule Customized Backup). So is with customized backup - I can back up only whole database and all recovery files on disk, no tablespaces, datafiles and archivelogs...
I am logged in as sys as sysdba, so there's no chance that I don't have access to something. Do you have these options in your 11EM, is it new feature or something wrong with my installation?
Aliq

Yes, you're right. The database is in noarchivelog mode! This is also very very strange as I turned on archivelog (also using EM) before doing backup... I will turn it on manually
Thanks.

How to write shell script for export full backup in oracle 11g
Do you mean that export is your backup strategy ? is your database running in noarchivelog mode ? if so, then why ? if not so, then why not RMAN ?
need to remove 2 days of old backup.
If that mean remove files older than 2 days, you can use something like this :
    $ find <absolute directory path> -mtime +2 -exec rm {} \;

  • Need help for DB backup through OEM 11g grid

I need to know how to schedule the hot backup of whole DB using OEM 11g grid.
In our system there is a backup running for DB (10gr2). It is not scheduled through jobs.
I am not able to find this scheduled db backup information from OEM.
Can anyone guide me how to check the current backup schedules and backup script ?
Is there any good document for this ?

    Hi Dhaval,
You may look out option for restore backup from production and restore the same on QAS.
    Refer SAP note
    683447
SAP Tools for MS SQL Server
Which shall help you with post restore steps on the database.
Once DB and SAP is up you may perform generic post restore steps like
    - STMS re-configuration
    - Adjusting profiles
    - Executing BDLS
    - Importing RFCs and user master ( if exported before the restore)
    - Adjusting Partner profiles
    - Configuring backup
    - Apply SAP license
Above are just a few of them to name. There could be many more as per customer landscape.

  • Backup cold in 11g with really  bad OS.

    dear all,
    facts:
    -OS RHEL 5.2 64 bits
-11gr1 standard edition : datamart purposes
    - archive is disabled.
    - export database everyday
-The db is open and the users connects through oracle net.
-i cannot connect to server through network.
i dont want to restart the server or database because (maybe) this server or database wont start. So i want to cold backup with the following steps:
    Steps:
    - create pfile from spfile;
    - alter database backup controlfile to trace;
    - take each tablespace offline and copy the datafiles.
But there is a problem because the system tablespace cannot take offline....
    ALTER TABLESPACE <tablespace_name> OFFLINE;
    - copy of tnsnames.ora, listener, sqlnet.ora
    questions:
    with this scenario:
    - anything else in this steps ???
    - how can i backup the redo logs? (there are 3) ???
    - how can i backup my system tbs without shutdown the database?
    thanks for your answers
    - there are all steps in order to backup my database in cold mode?
With this steps is enough in order to restore in another server ??
    thanks

-i cannot connect to server through network. The description above doesn't suggest there is anything wrong with the server at all since the db is up and users are connecting remotely. It appears only to be you that is having trouble connecting. That rather suggests the trouble is at your end. Perhaps you'd go so far as to give us a description of what you are actually doing and what error you actually receive. At the moment, to borrow Tom Kyte's car analogy you've told us
    "facts:
    freeway 61
    ford focus 1.4l
    air con is off
    check tyre pressure every week
other ford focus' using freeway 61 just fine
    my car won't start"
not great diagnosis tools available for us?
    - there are all steps in order to backup my database in cold mode?as others have said your steps are all entirely incorrect. Even if you were able to take the system tablespace offline then the 'backup' you obtained would be inconsistent and the restored datafiles would certainly need recovery likely from archivelogs you don't have, and possibly be unusable

With this steps is enough in order to restore in another server ??No. Follow the standard cold backup procedure.

  • Rman backup 11g rel2

    Hello Guys
I was testing rman backup on oracle 11g rel2 , logging time for backup using rman as in 2 ways 1) full database backup
2)full database backup /parallel feature say "section size 200M" in script
i was expecting due to new 11g feature option 2 should complete faster ,but its reverse without using this feature
its running more fast (completing by 4-5 minutes less time)
I also tried taking backup of 1 datafile or 1 tablespace using both the option and also placing backupsets
on different folders/mountpoints ,but result is same
if you had worked on this feature ,please give details what is benefit of using this feature,i can see disadvantage here
    Thanks

You can analyze the backup log. It should contains the records about opening several channels simultaneously, for instance:

channel tape1: starting full datafile backup set
channel tape1: specifying datafile(s) in backup set

  • Can we restore oracle 11g RMAN backups to 10g server

    Hi,
I have RMAN backups (full backup)of oracle 11g database. My server was suddenly crashed due to hardware failure.
We have another Oracle 10g server. Is it possible to restore RMAN backups of 11g database to Oracle 10g server???
    Thanks

I don't have 11g server ready with me. The other server running oracle 10g and I dont have rights to install oracle 11g on the 10g server. So I can not test the RESTORE/RECOVER commands.
If anyone had experience in the past, please let me know whether we can RESTORE RMAN backups of 11g database to oracle 10g server...
    Thanks

  • Oracle 11g Database Backup

    hi,
How do we take a schedule backup from oracle 11g db. i am now taking manually using EXP.
i am looking similar to MS SQL Server scedule backup.

The easiest way would be to do it through the EM of 11g. Its the gui interface of RMAN but it would appear quite simple from EM. As told already, search about this as well and you would get many hits.

  • WHAT BACKUP STARTEGY DO I USE PS ADVICE

I run my production database on AIX OS, we currently backup the Oracle 11g database once a month using Filesystem on AIX to tape using TIVOLI, i want to change the backup strategy to use RMAN to back up to tapes,
House please what do you recommend, do i still continue with the FILE system backup or use RMAN to back up to tapes, or which do you recommend as the best backup method.

RMAN Backup to Disk is easy to implement and, provided that the latest backups are still present on disk, is, in many cases, quick to restore from.
However, you must also copy your disk backups to tape -- RMAN provides a "BACKUP BACKUPSET" command to do so. Alternatively, use non-RMAN methods to copy backups from disk to tape.
Since 10g, using the FlashRecoveryArea (or FastRecoveryArea in 11g) has been a preferred method to configure disk backups.
However, if the database is so large that you cannot provide adequate disk space (e.g. as the database grows), you may consider backups direct to tape.
Handling restore and recovery becomes slightly more complicated. Since you already have Tivoli implemented, I guess that you (or someone in SysAdmin / NetworkAdmin) are/is familiar with Tivoli.

  • Integrity check of tables between Oracle 9i and Oracle 11g

    Hi,
    |Is there a tool or a way to check the integrity of data in the tables after migrating data from an Oracle 9i database to an Oracle 11g database?
    Thanks for you help.

    Hi,
How do you want to proceed for your migration ? Assuming everything was OK in your 9i database normally things should go well whatever the method.
For example as the previous posters mentioned if you use exp/imp and if you have "successfully without warnings" at the end of the operations you can trust those messages. Physical corruption is not the only possible problem and with exp/imp some things not to forget :
    - checking the compatibility of the source and target database charactersets and positioning correctly the NLS_LANG variables for exp and imp
    - activity on the source at the time of your export ? Your export has to be "logically" consistent.
Oh and about block integrity do a good full rman backup on your 11g database after the migration and check v$database_block_corruption after the backup. RMAN is your friend about physical integrity. Even after an incremental rman backup if a query on this view gives 0 result you can be sure you have no block corruption (at least if block_change_tracking is not used)
    Best regards
    Phil

I wanted to know the followings
    1) Easy data transfer technique (Data Pump or RMAN) & How do I do that (Steps)
    2) How to backup the fresh 11g RAC (In case of errors in data transfer process to recover the base) (How to do)
Appreciate your help as I only have average knowledge in DBA.

  • 11g Block Corruption Question..

    Hello All,
I am running an 11g (11.1.0.7) 64 bit on a Redhat 5.3 host. I did an RMAN clone or copy of this database to another Redhat host, same file structure, DB version, identical to production. I am using 11g enterprise manager GRID control to manage this newly cloned host. When I try to perform a full-backup using the 11g enterprise manager grid control GUI, it tell me that I have block corruption in datafile#7 and lists all the blocks. Now, I know for sure that my production host (where the clone was made from) does not have any corrupt blocks of any sort. I also ran a 'validate database' and 'validate datafile 7' command on the newly created host and all reports back ok. The full backup completes successfully, but where is it getting this corrupt datafile 7 from? Can I clear this block corruption list somehow? Both Production and the newly created clone are free of any block corruption. When I execute an RMAN> backup database command on the newly created host, it fires off and does its thing, no mention of any block corruption, but when I want to perform a full backup with the GUI, it warns me of the block corruption - but lets the full backup continue and complete. GUI issue with 11g enterpise manager grid control?
    Please advise..
    Thanks,
    RB

Its not mandatory that if you are getting the message of block corruption from GUI , it must be true only. Since you are using RMAN, if it can't find a buffer to read in few tries( 3 I believe) , it would mark the buffer as "corrupted" but that's NOT a corruption. As long as you don't see ora-1578 in the alert log repeatedly, you don't have a corruption. What more you can do is to run the command validate ....check logical to confirm that there is some logical corruption detected or not. Other than that, IMO you are fine.

  • Block change tracking and Backup size

    DB Version : 10gRelease
We have a Differential Incremental Backup strategy with Recovery Window retention policy. I haven't enabled BLOCK CHANGE TRACKING. Just would like to know if the backup size of both Level 0 and Level1 backups become smaller by enabling Block Change Tracking. Or is it just Level 1 backups' size which is going to decrease?
    Thank you.

An excerpt from Oracle RMAN 11g Backup and Recovery by Robert G. Freeman & Matthew Hart
    ISBN: 978-0-07-162861-7
    The Block Change Tracking File
By default, when doing an incremental backup, any datafile that has changed in any way will be
backed up. This can make incremental backups take longer and will make them larger. RMAN
offers the ability to just back up changed database blocks. +This can make your incremental+
+database backups much smaller and shorter.+ To enable block change tracking, issue the command
alter database enable block change tracking. The result of this command will be the creation of a
file called the block change tracking file (BCTF).Checkout the word smaller.
    Two things:
    A. This is not Official oracle documentation ( Oracle press though)
    B. This book is about 11g. I don't know if BCTF makes backups smaller in 11G.

Since you're shutting down the database for cold backup so ensure it should be shutdown properly by shutdown or shutdown immediate cmd not by abort cmd.
    Consistent backup:-
A backup taken when the database is mounted (but not open) after a normal shutdown. The checkpoint SCNs in the datafile headers match the header information in the control file. None of the datafiles has changes beyond its checkpoint. Consistent backups can be restored without recovery.
