Backup ipad

How do you backup iPad and go back to factory default os if the nov 4.2 ***** and is buggy and crashy. I don't trust the update one bit when it is released.

Well ya. I'm not jbreaking.
Apple needs to allow restore to older. If you have issues and an ipdate doesn't work then you need to be able to go back.
I have a 2g iPod touch and os 4 doesn't work on it. It constantly crashes apps and the battery is 100 times worse then 3.x. Since I couldn't go back my apple store gave me a new 2g iPod touch. Luckily it has 2.1.2 and I am not updating to 4 since it doesn't work and offers nothing really. I couldn't go back so I refuse to update my itouch.
I am thinking of this experience when looking at an upgrade to 4.x next month. But I guess if it doesn't work well I'll have them give me a new ipad.

I have two MacBooks. I have sole control over one of them. Our Tech Director wants me to control everything iPad in the school. I am trying to set up Apple Configurtator on the new Mac, transfer all the apps already downloaded, and everytime I plug my "backup" iPad into the new MacBook, it says, "This iPad is supervised by another computer and cannot be used with this computer. Help please!!!

Yes, Nathan. I have Automatic Download options for Music, Books, and Updates, but not for Apps. I turned on the Updates, but it didn't help. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Do not seem to be able to backup iPad via iTunes on to my PC.
Message after connecting is "iTunes was unable to load class information from Sync Services, Reconnect or try later"
Have tried that but get the same result.
    Remedies I've tried are:
    wait and try again
    reboot
    reload iTunes
NB hp is a relatively new machine and has previously backed up quite happily.
    Can anyone assist?

Try rebooting the iPad.  Hold down both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow.  It takes a minute or two to restart.
Also be sure your iPad battery is not completely discharged.

    Thanks

I am in a similar start only I am attempting to backup to a Mac. The ipad used to backup just fine, until the
update to IOS of last week. Apple support has not been helpful at all. They would not listen and kept giving
me instructions as to how to work around on a PC.
    What I have tried is:
    1. rebooting everyting and disconnecting all peripherials from the mac
    2. deleting the lockdown files
    3. deleting all old backups
    Still fails
Try backing up to a windows system, after 18 hours I gave up as it was still "working" with no progress indicated.
I tried someone elses mac. I wanted 3 hours and the backup still hadn't completed and the person wanted their mac back.
I have 22GB of free memory on the ipad and 200GB+ free disk space on the mac.
The only solution offered by apple "support" was to reset the ipad and re-install all my apps. I really don't want to do that as backups just quit working and this would be the 4th time apple has had me do this. It takes lots of time
    to get everything reconfigured again.
Anyone have any new ideas as to what to try?
    thanks!

  • "iTunes could not backup iPad because session could not be started w/iPad"

I was in the process of backing up my iPad this evening and it was, by the bar graph progress indicator, about 95% done but was taking FOREVER to get through that last bit. Then the power went out.
Now when I plug in the iPad and run iTunes, the synch goes ultra quick and then I get an error message saying: "iTunes could not backup the iPad because a session could not be started with the iPad".
Per one suggestion I found in some user discussion groups, I went into the iTunes preferences and deleted the backups it showed for my iPad. I drilled down into the folder where the backups are usually stored and those backups were now gone.
Unfortunately, that didn't cure the problem.
Nothing I do seems to work. Anyone care to give me some things to try? This is really frustrating. As it stands I have NO backup and I have some data on the iPad (like in writing apps, journal, etc.) I dare not lose, so I'm hesitant to do anything like a hard reset.

    FIXED IT!
Before I got to my fix, here are the things I tried, none of which seemed to resolve the issue or improve the situation:
    *Checked cables and connections
    *Restarted iTunes
    *Restarted my PC
*Checked to make sure PC date/time/time zone were all accurate
*Checked to make sure my security software (MS Security Essentials and Windows FIrewall) were up-to-date and no conflicts
*Made sure I had proper permission for the iPad backup folders. To ensure that, I selected the folders and clicked on "Take Ownership" in the context menu.
*I made sure that my user account is an Administrator account on this PC
*I logged out of my primary user account and logged in as the Computer Administrator (basically, a different user acccount that is an Administrator) and tried to do the backup to iTunes from there.
Failing with all of those things, many of which are suggested from the Apple knowledge base, I was just about to backup my iPad onto another machine, then transfer the backup to this PC and restore the iPad from here using that file, maybe even removing and re-installing iTunes, etc. Everything so far short of wiping the iPad and starting over from scratch, which I feared might end up happening.
Then, a lightbulb went off in my head. Why not do a reset on the iPad itself? Not the usual soft reset but the kind of reset that restores function to an iDevice when it isn't responding: press and hold both the Power and Home buttons at the same time and hold them until the device restarts, ignoring the "slide to turn off" prompt. After it finished booting up, I connected it with my PC, which brought up iTunes automatically, then...lo and behold, instead of seeing the rapid synch then error, it went right into backup. Took about fifteen minutes but it finished the backup without a hitch and synched the iPad.
So there you have it: one more thing to try. Maybe the FIRST thing you should try? It was so simple! I wish I'd figured that out BEFORE I did all that other stuff I mentioned above!
I'd like to read comments from anyone who has also experienced this problem and has tried my "fix" suggestion.

  • Backup iPad Synched with Mac onto New iPad on a PC

    Hey all,
    I have the below setup
iPad synced with Mac (iPad 2 32gb  - iMac Maverics)
This will be my new setup
New iPad Mini synced with PC
My question is this.. I have stuff I want to backup on my old iPad like notes / documents etc that I don't want to lose.. The music & photo's can obviously be transferred via usb to my Mac from my PC.. Can this be done or should I just back up the documents / notes manually and start from scratch?
    Many thanks,
    J

    Hello ottomanempire,
Congratulations on your new iPad mini and computer!  It sounds like you would like to transfer content from your current iPad to your new iPad mini, specifically your notes and documents.
I recommend following the steps in the article below to do this.  This article outlines using iCloud or iTunes.  You can do this using iTunes on either computer:
Transfer content from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device

Additionally, if you would like your music and movies to sync to your new iPad mini from your new PC, I recommend using the following article to transfer your media to the new computer:

  • Forgot to backup iPad before updating, now my only option is restoring please help.

I updated my iPad thinking it was backed up to the cloud... It was not. Now I'm getting the connect to iTunes logo and it wants me to restore my iPad. Is there a way of reverting back to the way it was with or without the new software? I have about 3 years of data that will be lost otherwise...

Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.

  • How to manually backup iPad to iTunes now that iCloud is working?i

Now that iCloud is backing up my iPad finally, I would still like to do a manual backup to iTunes. Can someone provied the details of how to do this correctly? I assume I still have to tether it to my iMac. I'm confused because It looks like it is still backing up to iTunes as it did before but I seems some people using right click on iTunes Icon and so on, so need to get the correct procedure. Thanks

You cannot backup to iCloud and to the computer at the same time if that is what you are asking - in other words if you are looking for a way to always have "backup to iCloud" enabled and "Backup to this computer" enabled - both at the same time - you can't do it.
There is no way to set it up so the whenever you backup - you backup to iCloud and the computer at the same time - simultaneously that is. Does that answer your question?
I thought the OP was asking how to switch between the cloud and the computer for backups but maybe I am wrong.

  • Backup iPad to time capsule

How does one backup the ipad2 to time capsule wirelessly without the need for iTunes and a computer?

How does one backup the ipad2 to time capsule wirelessly without the need for iTunes and a computer?
    This is not possible.
iPad can backup in two ways:
iTunes on your computer....which in turn will be backed up if you are using Time Machine
    iCloud

  • Can i backup iPad/iPhone to device via internet?

My MybookLiveDual is connected to internet via router at home. Can i backup selected files on my iPad remotely to the device via internet? I would like to do this while traveling if possible.

Of course you can backup iPhone to device via Internet just simply using iCloud. Indeed, iCloud provides easy way to backup iPhone.Go to Settings>iCloud and then scroll down to Backup. Here you can turn backups on and initiate a new backup immediately. If this is your first iCloud backup it might take a while to complete. Once the backup is complete, though, your iPhone will automatically backup when idle for an extended period of time and on an active wi-fi network. Of course, it is also simple to restore to other devices from iCloud after resetting your phone and choose "backup from iCloud".

  • After restoring from backup, iPad hangs after sliding to unlock-I have to reset every time to get it to work--Any fix?

I have a first generation iPad.
After having crashing issues I restored from backup.
Since restore, whenever I slide to unlock, it hangs for few minutes.  Then I get a pictrue of the spinning circle but is doesn't spin---just hangs there--frozen.
I have to reset the iPad to get it to function every time (holding down the home button/on-off button).
Any ideas on how I can resolve this issue?

Seems to have something to do with the passcode.  I turned the passcode off and now there are no issues.

  • Cannot backup iPad 1 (Original) after updating to iOS 5.1.1

    Hello,
I have an iPad 1 (Original), WiFi only, 32 gb. I just upgraded to iOS 5.1.1 from iOS 4.2.1. It all went well (data was restored properly, apps were just as i had left them etc) up until me having to take a backup. All that iTunes says is 'iTunes could not back up the iPad because an error occurred'
    I have:
    Windows 7 Ultimate OS
    iTunes version 11.0.1.12
    I have so far attempted:
    Resetting iPad to factory settings
    Deleting old backups from iTunes-Edit-Preference-Devices
    Resetting sync history from iTunes-Edit-Preference-Devices
All of this to no avail. Then, on restarting iTunes, I weirdly get a phantom backup with a date from 2001 (5:30 am) and serial number as 00000000.
Any help on this would be most appreciated.
    Thank you!

i have the same problem! Did you find a fix? please help.
