Backup Issue with WinXP
I have an iPhone 3G and I'm trying to sync / backup the phone to a Windows XP computer. The computer is authorized and we have sync'd purchased music to the iPhone. The iPhone is running iOS 5.01 with iTunes 10.6.1.
When trying to sync the iPhone - it goes through the syncing process fine, though on Step 7, a window pops up that the iPhone is not connected. Then another window pops up with a message that iTunes could not connect to WinXP. We can't update the iPhone to 5.1 without first doing a successful backup. We ran diagnostics within iTunes - and all Tests checked out fine.
Any thoughts on what the issue might be?
Paul
I don't think you can disable Change Tracking and then restore the situation you were in. You would have to resync everything.
Whether you can delete rows from sys.syscommitab? Yes, but you should also do so when adviced and instructed by a Microsoft support engineer. I would strongly recommend that you open a case with Microsoft. Since this appears to be due to a malfunction in
the product, the case should be free of charge.

...for 0x81080101:
"ERROR - The shared restore point operation failed with error (0x81000101)
The creation of a shadow copy has timed out. Try again this operation."
If you receive the above error in your report, we have recently found a registry key which
contains the timeout value set by Microsoft for VSS and found that you can edit this to extend it.
To get to the registry key, open Regedit (Start > Run > Regedit) and browse to:
"HKLM\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\SPP\\CreateTimeout".
Change value to 1200000 (2*10*60*1000 = 20 mins).
The default for the timeout period is 10 mins so hopefully doubling this will give enough time to
complete the snapshot.
If this isn't present, you'll need to manually enter the registry key. It's a DWORD 32-bit key.
--> NOTE: HAve not done this yet.

Scot PichelmanHi Scot,
Sometimes a third party backup application will change the default VSS provider adding VSS writers which causes Windows Server Backup using an incorrect component in doing backup, that's why I suggest to delete it for a test. Anyway you can reinstall it
after testing.
And as you said a high-load CPU could also be the cause of the issue so you may need to first rule hardware effective out.
If issue still exists, please try the steps below as well:
1. Please check DCOM Server Process Launcher service is started.
2. If not, try to change RPC service to run as SYSTEM account. To do this please modify the following key:
Note: Backup the key before edit incase it cause any issue.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\RpcSs\
Find "ObjectName" and change the value to LocalSystem.
Reboot to see if DCOM back to work and if Windows Server Backup starts working. If not, please provide the result if there is any new error occurs.
If DCOM still not work, please compare the content of the following key with a working server:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\OLE
Edit if there is any difference and make sure you created a backup of the key before editing.

Backup Issues with iPhone 4 and iOs 4.3.3
So after arriving in town on a business trip, I find myself accidentally locked out of my phone. Knowing that I need to restore it in order to regain access to it, I begin downloading the update to 4.3.3 so that the restore can process. Due to this being a small town in Alaska, the internet is not the greatest, and the update times out around 7 or so times. Finally, I set it to just go by itself while I fell asleep. Upon my waking, I came to find that my phone has been restored and I have access to it again (good news) but that it has been completely wiped and I can find no record of any previous backups for the phone from before approximately 5:45 this morning. Nor is there any record of any of my apps, contacts, photos, or any of my other important data on the mac itself.
So tell me, am I completely screwed? Or is there some hidey-hole somewhere on this computer that may have performed correctly and maintained a backup of my phone from one of the many times I told it to back up? I attempted to do a fairly scrutinizing search to see if I could find a solution on my own, but have had no luck. Any help is appreciated. Thanks for your quick reply! I am actually using the white headphones that originally came with the iPhone and I also tried using ones that I bought to specifically use with the iPhone so I could also answer the phone and hear through those. Any other advice?

Hotsync keeps on backing up all the .PDBs in the handheld to the "backup" folder on my pc even though it has changed. I have a progam that I created in my handheld that uses these PDBs.This becomes an issue during the sync operation because some of the PDBs are huge. It tends to backup everything if one of the files in the handheld device has changed.
Post relates to: Palm PilotThis is normal operation of the device. The device backs up the data so if you do a hard reset on the device or if the data is lost you can restore that back to the device. You can turn this off if you go into the conduit settings and for backup select no nothing and select set as default

HT1766 IPad Backup Issue with The Cloud
I have a message on my iPad screen that says '"iCloud Backup" The iPad hasn't been backed up in 4 weeks. Backups happen when this iPad is plugged in, locked and connected to Wi-Fi.' I click "ok" but message won't go away. I can't turn off the iPad either or lock the screen, because the dialogue box with this error message in it won't go away, even when I plug it in so it is fully charged and connected to Wi-Fi.
Try a reset. Hold the Sleep and Home button down (together) for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the red slider.

I keep getting backup failed messages when sync'ing with my desktop. No change from power cycling the phone. I have ios 7 and a desktop using windows 7 - sync'ing with the usb cable and the phone is turned on and active/not asleep.
As a pre-caution I have backed up to icloud and that was successful, but when I tried to the desktop it failed again. I power cycle my desktop computer almost daily.
JulesDo you see any physical damage on the iPad's screen?
Was your iPad dropped?
You could try one more thing, do a restore using recovery mode:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
If that still does not fix things, take your iPad to an Apple store. -
Exchange backup Issue with Symantec Backup Exec 2014

Have you looked at this article? Do you have the remote agent installed? I would see if there is updates for the agent as well( Right click the exchange server from your console and hit update).Hi,
I am using Symantec Backup Exec 2014 software. I want to take the daily backup of our Exchange database (Exchange 2013). But I cannot add the Exchange database to the Backup process.
I tried Add server wizard and connect exchange from the server wizard. But both options are not working. But I can take the backup of files that stored in the same server (exchange).
Please help...

I just restored my 13" MBP i5 at the apple store to the newest version of Lion after issues with a previous Time Machine backup from Snow Leopard- this time I created a new account and just ported files and folders, and now MS Office doesn't work.
^^ that's the main problem. Here's the full history.
I bought a new 13" i5 MBP, early 2011 edition. I had an old white Macbook 2.14 ghz core2duo on Snow Leopard. I attempted to port over my time machine backup, but encountered problems in that my User was inaccessible from the new computer after the import finished, and I had to go in and change the root password, etc, and for some reason or another, I couldn't install any programs at all from that administrator's account. By "couldn't" I mean I could install them, but upon installation they would never boot. So, I took it to the apple store and did a clean install from the most up to date Lion OSX. Then, I created a brand new admin account, instead of trying to import the old one, and things seemed great. Then, I just imported my old files from the TM backup, but not any system settings, permissions, or user data. Just my Docs, pics, vids, apps, and itunes stuff.
Here's where things get weird again. I imported this stuff under the name "old", but all of these folders have a red negative sign on them, marking them as restricted. So, from my main admin account, I cannot even peruse these folders. Since I didn't import user data, I can't sign in to the "old" account to change permissions. I already tried to change the permissions from system preferences, but that didn't change anything. And now, for whatever reason, of all the apps that were imported then, MS Office is the only set of apps that does not work. When I click on it, it just says there was a problem and asks if I'd like to send a report to apple. I tried reinstalling it to no avail. I'm an English student, so i really need access to Word. Can anyone help? The Apple store is a major detour for me and would like to fix this issue myself. Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.) -
I have just upgraded to Windows 8 and my scyning and upgrading my phone with new apple software fails, Itunes looses connection with the device (phone), cant backup the phone or download new software, is this an issues with Windows
Hi, stig2013.
I would recommend the steps in the article below. See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
If you are receiving an error message, find the exact error number that you recieved in the article below and process the steps.
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if you manually disconnect the device during the restore process. You can resolve this issue by using USB troubleshooting, using a different Dock Connector or Lightning Connector to USB cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

Issues with restoring a Time Machine backup onto new Macbook Pro Retina
I recently got a new Macbook Pro Retina and I've been trying to restore a Time Machine backup made today from my old Macbook Pro laptop. I didn't restore from the first start up (foolishly, seemingly) simply because of the trivial reason of wanting to see the system all clean and new.
I've tried the Migration Assistant but it gets stuck on "looking for source..", despite having the ex.HD plugged in and double checking the existance of the backup itself on the ex.HD.
I've also tried booting the laptop up in the 'restore' mode (cmd R) and restoring from there but it sends me in a constant loop of 'this backup was from a previous model of laptop' or something to that affect. It also doesn't display the recent backups at all, only displaying those from the beginning of this year for some reason. All backups are in the same place on the ex.HD so its not an issue with locating the backups.
Really stuck on this one! Would really appreciate some help!
Thanks a lot, and merry ChristmasYes, you can restore to another machine if needs be.

I have tried to add additional space and use command backup-staging-url (my configuration: backup-staging-url nfs://server2008:/nfs), but it didn't help me.
NFS share works perfect. I have checked it via NFS repository:
repository backup_nfs
url nfs://server2008:/nfs
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
NCS/admin# show repository backup_nfs
NCS-130130-1135.tar.gpg
NCS-130130-1137.tar.gpg
NCS-130130-1157.tar.gpg
NCS-130130-1158.tar.gpg
test-130130-1210.tar.gz
Everytime when I try create backup I receive error message "You do not have enough disk space available in your repository to complete this backup".
Does someone know how can I backup NCS system?
Thank youHow much space is availabe on that NFS mount point? It looks like to me from the error message that there is only 12 GB....
The backup-staging-url is just for a space used to stage the backup before it is written----- -
Hi,
We have recently had issues running system state backups on our 2008 R2 Domain Controllers. They are running on Dell PowerEdge R510 Physical Hardware. Whenever you initiate a system state backup, the Domain Controller becomes unresponsive
forcing us to physically reboot it. Nothing in the Event logs or the Dell Open Management Hardware Software indicates issues with Phyiscal disks but we can always replicate the issue by starting the system state backup.
The system state backup is initialted as a batch file that runs as a scheduled task. the commands run are as follows:
WBADMIN START SYSTEMSTATEBACKUP -backupTarget:[drive letter] -quiet
We have 4 Domain Controllers with identical disk configurations. When the DCs were setup I confirmed the system state backups were working but the issue started occuring sometime in Dec 2014. We are going to run the Dell Hardware Update Utility
to update the RAID, BIOS, Firmware updates but Has anyone experienced a similar issue that may have been triggerd by a Microsoft Patch?
Thanks,
Kevin C.

Hi Kevin,
This issue could be due to the Mountmgr.sys driver incorrectly maintains a global mutex. This behavior causes a deadlock situation in the Mountmgr.sys driver.
Please install the hotfix in the article below to resolve the issue:
A computer stops responding because of a deadlock situation in the Mountmgr.sys driver in running Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

Issues with Backup-GPO Scheduled Task as a non-admin account
I'm having an issue trying to get a daily backup of domain GPO's from a non-administrative account. I'm using Powershell 2.0, the Backup-GPO cmdlet runs fine as a standard user, but when I run the same cmdlet with the same user, but with a scheduled task,
the backup does not produce valid output. The command I run is:
[batch file called by scheduled task]
powershell.exe d:\loj\psps.ps1
[psps.ps1]
import-module grouppolicy
backup-gpo -all -path d:\loj
The specific problem is, all other files created by the backup are created successfully except the 'gpreport.xml' file found directly under the folder identified by the backup ID. All of the subdirectories under DomainSysvol\GPO contain xml files with the
appropriate data, and the Backup.xml and bkupInfo.xml files are also created normally. The manifest.xml file is also created normally in the root directory.
The gpreport.xml file however is malformed. It contains only two bytes of data, FF FE.
The reason this is a problem is that the xml in the gpreport file can be used to restore whether the GPO is 'enforced' and also contains link data. Using this when restoring the GPO's makes the process a lot less painful.
Running the batch file while logged in interactively as the user removes the problem, without making them an administrator.
I've been using a test domain to investigate this, I tried adding the user in question to every local group except administrators, gave it full control to the destination folder for backups, the powershell executable, batch and ps1 files. Resultant set of
policy access has been granted (rsop.msc run-as the user tested fine). The scheduled task stores credentials (needs to run when the user is not already logged in) and runs with the highest privileges.
The only possibly related error I could find in the logs was this:
This error goes away if enough group memberships are added to the account or alternatively if this string is added to the security descriptor for the LanManServer service: (A;;GA;;;S-1-5-21-1191697313-1384311512-914143962-35706), which just adds
generic all to this account by referencing the SID. However, despite the fact that the error is no longer raised, the issue with the gpreport.xml file remains.
Does anyone have any ideas on why this is happening? At this point my best guess is something UAC related, since the gpreport.xml file is created like normal if the user is made an administrator on the local machine (I'd rather not do that in production).Hi Fergubru,
Thanks for your posting.
To troubleshoot Task scheduled that a task ran, but the program that should have been executed did not run correctly.
As AZ said above, some programs require elevated privileges to run correctly. If a task is running a program that requires elevated privileges, ensure that the task runs with the highest privileges. You can set a task to run with the highest privileges
by changing the task's security options on the General tab of the Task Properties dialog box.
If a task program does not run correctly, check the history of the task for errors. For more information, see
View Task Properties and History.
For the Event ID 4656, this is an Audit log, This event will be Audit Success or Audit Failure depending on whether the user account under which the account is running has the requested permissions or not.
