Backup issue

Hello,
We have configured RMAN to take backups  (Oracle 10g, AIX, Netweaver 7)
During offline backups, I noticed that RMAN doesn't backup the TEMP datafiles.
However, brbackup still backs them up on disk
Could you please guide me how do I configure brbackup to backup up the temp datafiles also on the tape, where the rest of the backup is being done?
I am not sure about the initSID.sap parameter taht I needt to change for this.
Log:

One more doubt
All the datfiles (except Tempfiles) are backed up directly on tape.
The following log should expalin how:

But the tempfiles are backed up on the disk itself
Why are the tempfiles also not backed up on piece handle=EBD_bebuxzsx.645_1 tag=BEBUXZSX  ?
the parameters in initSID.sap are
backup_dev_type = rman_disk  tape_copy_cmd = rman
disk_copy_cmd = rman
tape_address = /dev/nmt0
util_par_file = initPQ1_RMAN_full_offline_weekly.utl
What parameter should I modify to accomplisg the backup of tempfiles on the RMAN utility (Tape drive, I suppose) as well?
Thanks.

This was suggested by the Backup Assist - software vendor....

    ...for 0x81080101:
"ERROR - The shared restore point operation failed with error (0x81000101)
The creation of a shadow copy has timed out. Try again this operation."
If you receive the above error in your report, we have recently found a registry key which
contains the timeout value set by Microsoft for VSS and found that you can edit this to extend it.
To get to the registry key, open Regedit (Start > Run > Regedit) and browse to:
    "HKLM\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\SPP\\CreateTimeout".
    Change value to 1200000 (2*10*60*1000 = 20 mins).
The default for the timeout period is 10 mins so hopefully doubling this will give enough time to
    complete the snapshot.
If this isn't present, you'll need to manually enter the registry key. It's a DWORD 32-bit key.

Will this server need a reboot since VSS is in a state and we can't even test backups?
Is there a tool we can use to debug VSS or troubleshoot or OS backups further?
MSReport/Diag, VSS debugging, or another way of helping fix our OS(SystemState/C: drive) backup issues?
Any help is greatly appreciated - thx.

    Scot Pichelman

    Hi Scot,
Sometimes a third party backup application will change the default VSS provider adding VSS writers which causes Windows Server Backup using an incorrect component in doing backup, that's why I suggest to delete it for a test. Anyway you can reinstall it
    after testing.
And as you said a high-load CPU could also be the cause of the issue so you may need to first rule hardware effective out.
If issue still exists, please try the steps below as well:
    1. Please check DCOM Server Process Launcher service is started.
    2. If not, try to change RPC service to run as SYSTEM account. To do this please modify the following key:
Note: Backup the key before edit incase it cause any issue.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\RpcSs\
Find "ObjectName" and change the value to LocalSystem.
Reboot to see if DCOM back to work and if Windows Server Backup starts working. If not, please provide the result if there is any new error occurs.
If DCOM still not work, please compare the content of the following key with a working server:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\OLE
Edit if there is any difference and make sure you created a backup of the key before editing.

I thought it was a backup issue but Veeam have investigated and have said it is a VSS timeout issue (I'm not convinced)
Recently I have had to have a new logs drive and extend the size of the mail box drive but since those changes were made backup has run OK until this issues.
    Any advice appreciated.

    Hi,
Based on my research, when Veeam takes the snapshot to then do a VSS backup it will cause the databases in the DAG to fail over and cause lots of alerts and we can modify the REM for the backup issue:

  • ITunes 10.5 very slow syncing with idevices not a backup issue

I have the latest itunes 10.5.2 installed on my 32 bit Windows 7 pc.  Ever since i upgraded my ipod 4 and iphone 4 to ios 5 it syncs very slowly with itunes (1 song aka 5 mb every 2 min and takes like 7 min to start syncing). i have tried restoring my phone and ipod with a new profile, making my ipod or iphone backup to icloud so that kills the long backup issue, reinstallled windows and just have itunes, reinstall itunes and wipeout the appledrivers then reinstall.  The devices sync fine when i use a mac that isnt mine. i also have tried outher windows pcs with no luck. im out of ideas and im tired of wating 4 hrs just for a audiobook or a movie to sync.

Yeah seriously, I have my first gen iPhone and never had a issue with it. Blackberry always had a horrible desktop manager for the PC for YEARS and I always had to debug the issues myself for clients. Unfortunately for a lot of my clients the Blackberry is a better device for business, just horrible desktop software.
Eventually I'll push my client to move over to hosted exchange server, But for right now before making that push, I need to resolve this issue with the Blackberry sync. I would hate for all the work and conversion over to the Mac to be wasted over a simple issue that possibly can be resolved by a simple setting I'm over looking.
It's also a possibility the extremely slow syncing can be caused by years of unorganized entering of contacts, but trying to sort out over 2000 contacts would be near impossible for a person with a busy schedule.

  • New Base Backup Issues

I recently purchased the K210 after researching prices and specs and think I have what should be a pretty sweet machine. However, after about 8-10 days of operation I was getting frequent create new base backup message until it reached the point that about 5 minutes after creation I would receive the message again. I am on 56K internet connection and it required almost a week to completely download all the files that Windows Update considered important. Upon checking the system I discovered that the service partition was almost completely full, 27 out of 30G. Being brand new at all of this I did something wrong but was able to restore factory settings. I am now afraid to download windows updates for fear of the same problem. I currently ignore the request to create base backup. What I need to know is if I was doing something wrong...Should the service partition become that full so quickly? I have never owned a machine with the service partition so I need to know how to access or store files on D directory. The only supplemental program I have added is a Lexmark printer which was recognized and operates correctly. Hope I asked the right questions. Excuse my newness!!!
When all is said and done, there is nothing left to say or do...

    Hi Fishoutofwater
You could see if tech support can help as this issue can have so many solutions depending on your PC build and your version of onekey, the way your OS is configured. etc.
It may also be helpful to search these forums for all info about base backup issues.
There is a 3000 system discussion thread, about onekey recovery and the lenovo recovery system.
Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost is a way to do an image backup, you most likely want to get your base backup and recovery system working as Lenovo has set it up. (onekey).
Again, It may be helpful to search the forums threads or google for for "lenovo one key recovery"  "Lenovo recovery" "lenovo base backup" , and then talk to to tech support.
    Good Luck.

  • RMAN Backup Issue when Full backup file was missing

    Hi,
On : 11.2.0.2 version, Recovery Manager
    RMAN Backup issue
Last week we had the NFS Issue where we backup the files onto NFS.
The problem occurred in the below sequence
    Saturday the backup was successful
Saturday before deleting the backup files they are copied to tape
Deleting the backup files via OS command
Sunday Full backup started but due the NFS issue backup failed(Killed the instance and restarted)
Did the RMAN Incremental backup which worked on Monday
On Tuesday RMAN started complaining and started doing the Full backup.
no parent backup or copy of datafile 1 found
no parent backup or copy of datafile 3 found
no parent backup or copy of datafile 24 foundSony any idea why the Incremental backup worked on Monday but not on Tuesday
    Regards
    NM

Ok here is why I would like exact filenames..
    1) to speed the time of recovery. I am much more familiar with traditional recovery methods than RMAN, and while I myself installed and suggested RMAN for backups, our other (11i) database does not use RMAN and so I am more familiar with traditional recovery. So to be able to recover quickly I want to have these files as close as possible to the original names so that I can use my standard script (from a trace file) to recreate the control fiile. If I can get RMAN to spit out the filies with original names but keep RMAN for making the backup, I may ditch the rman bacjup script in chron and write a traditional hot backup script which copies the files the old fashioned way.
    2) to reduce cloning time. The RMAN duplicate command is not as good as I thought. I was actually easier for me to restore RMAN backups first to a box that has all the same paths, and THEN shutdown (cold) these files and copy them cold to another server, and restore from there. Agaiin if I can get the original file names, I could choose to do recovery either way (RMAN or traditional) in a real emergency instead of being forced to use rman.
    3) to be able to switch to a backup file in the FRA without having to rename it. Seems logical if it is already named correctly.
    thanks ! Marvi

  • V12 (GA) switch issues. DB is stuck in creation state, automated backup issues, no monitoring data 1h

    Hi,
On Friday we have switched databases to V12 version as it was announced that they are now generally available, but I have doubts that everything was tested by Microsoft, as immediately we have several issues:
    1. We had automated backups scheduled on all DB. On Sunday everything started to not work properly. There were more than 10 backup databases created like AutomatedSqlExport_X_20150201T050000Z and emails send that backup cannot be created. We had to
    remove them manually except one.
    2. One of the backup database is still in creating state from yesterday so we cannot remove it.
    3. We have turned off all automated backups in Azure Portal, but I'm not sure if they can be turned on again. I do not want to have 20 DB billed every week as autometed scripts are not working properly.
    4. After switch in Management Portal only last hour metrics are available. Switching to 24h or more returns all zeroes. When do we count on the fix?
PS. tracking ID of db that is in creating state: 44530DC6-B174-4FAA-A4D6-2C01CA20CB85
    Regards,
    Rafal

    Hi Gluwer,
    Thanks for posting here.
I suggest you to open a support case as this needs more back-end information which cannot be discussed over the forum.

  • ICloud Backup Issues on iPhone & iPad Air: NOT Enough Storage (5 GB)

I've been a user of the free 5 GB of storage since its inception without any problems.  I was backing up data on my iPhone and 3rd gen. iPad on a regular basis and never ran into any issues.
I recently upgraded to an iPad Air and set it up using a restoration and it went off without a hitch.  The very next day I started noticing these warnings that I was approaching my storage limit even though I had not really changed the amount of data on my phone or the Air.  I don't download lots of apps and basically only update them when necessary.  I use iTunes Match, so I stream my music from the cloud so I don't have audio files on any devices, with the exception of my iPhone for those times I don't have access to wi-fi -- and it's always been the same number of files/same size.
(The iPhone is showing 3.5 GB in use and the Air is showing 1.3 as of this post).
I do have a fair amount of photos in the iPhoto stream as I'm always snapping something, but not to the point of being obssessed. And I always am moving them into iPhoto/Aperture and deleting them frequently, so I'm not talking about thousands of photos being on either device at any time.
In other words, I'm like the average user when it comes to the amount of data on my devices -- and am not going overboard where it's at the point that I know I have to delete things to make room.
I've scrutinized the file sizes of everything I possibly can in the settings on both devices yet I'm still getting the warning that I don't have enough storage space.  I find it hard to believe that something during the process of setting up the Air pushed my storage over the edge to where I actually need to purchase space because I just am not seeing any deviation from what I used to do before setting up the Air.
I deleted the 3rd gen. iPad backup as well as any other old backups from iCloud which are no longer relevant each and every single time I've upgraded any device.  I don't have anyone else using these devices other than myself so no one is downloading apps, snapping pix, or doing anything which would add data.  I did a quick glance at the forums to see that lots of people have this problem - so I'm wondering if it's some type of glitch?
My iPhone told me today that I had not backed up to iCloud in weeks - which I'm sure refers to the time right around I bought the Air - as I have my devices to auto backup when connected to wi-fi. The last backup according to settings was 5/6 -- while the Air was on 5/16.
This is very annoying as I don't want to have to buy the next level of storage just to rid myself of this message so I'd be interested to know what others have tried.  Sure, I can just do a complete backup of all my devices to my computer -- which I do fairly regularly -- but it was always good to know that I had access to iCloud backups for those times I didn't hook things up to my MBP.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to things I can try to rid myself of this dreaded message? It pops up daily and I really would love to fix it.   Thanks!

I think I figured it out.  I went through my iPhone and turned off a lot of the apps that were slotted to backup and it appears to done the trick as the phone is backing up to iCloud.
The language needs to be broken down where it makes more sense of what's happening behind the scenes during these backups as I think it can be easily miscontrued that it's the data the various specific apps are using which is the issue at hand and not them apps themselves is what's causing the increase in size; some people may think that if they turn these apps off, they are deleting the apps from their devices so they leave them all switched on which ends up bumping up the size and ultimately eating up storage space.
I admit to not really paying attention to what the explanation was saying when I initially got the error message which made me initially post this.  Now that I'm rationally thinking, I can see the problem of the disappearing space and am off to turn off a handful of apps on the Air to reduce the storage allotment even more

  • Project Backup Issue

We have a situation where single project backup is reported as "completed successfully" , but when we try to restore it, it gives error.
The Oracle Tech Support is horrible beyond imagination. For two weeks they kept telling me that they are working on it, and now they want to start over and want another backup sample. This tells me clearly, they have no clue, just fishing around to find something. Here is the entire conversation:
    Quote:
I am surprised that this simple realization came after two weeks. This is really worst tech support I have ever seen, inspite of paying top dollars. Is there any place in Oracle which tracks the quality of technical support provided to clients or is it free for all.
Well, just for your information, we have also started looking at some other options to replace Contract manager due to the bad support.
I will send you the backup as desired.

    Data Request
    Thanks for your reply.
Based on the information you have provided and the support team's previous
experience with the issue I believe the project itself may be corrupt in some way.
Therefore when one attempts to restore the project the restore process fails the
validity check due to possible missing data within the project.
Because the .JAR file itself is corrupt I'm unable to view its contents using an XML editor
    or other means.
Please upload a copy of a database export of the Oracle database where this project
exists. This way I can restore the data here and query the contents of the project
itself to confirm whether there is missing or invalid data within the project.
See DOC ID 908371.1 (attached in the related articles section of this SR) for steps
of how to perform the export.
    Thank you.

This is really frustrating to receive such responses for a paid service contract after more than two weeks of pending SR. Did you read my entire post before posting your question or you just want me to start all over again. Last time you said that you have reproduced the issue, then why do you need another backup?
Anyway the replies are as under:
    1. This is happening with one project and not multiple projects ( read my earlier responses)
    2. No, there were no errors reported ( read my earlier responses)
    3. It was saved on local drive
4.As I understand you were able to reproduce the issue, then why do you need me to send you another backup. If so, please define the backup should be under what environment variables, because I dont want you to come back 2 weeks later and ask for another backup with different variables.
    Oracle Support - April 13, 2012 3:21:27 PM GMT-04:00 [ODM Action Plan]
    Hello.
1- So am I understanding that this is only happening with ONE project and not multiple projects?
2- When this single project backup was originally taken did any errors or unusual behavior occur?
3- Where is the backup file being saved when it is taken? On the local machine or to a network drive on some other machine?
4- Please create another single project backup of this project and attempt to restore that new backup to the new database
group. Let me know how this works out.
    [email protected] - April 11, 2012 7:23:42 PM GMT-04:00 [Update from Customer]
We are unable to do a backup only for this project. All other projects are working OK. Let me know if you need anything else.
    Thanks

    [email protected] - April 2, 2012 7:35:33 AM GMT-04:00 [Update from Customer]
    1. This happens with Single project backup with all the projects we have.
2.yes, it is being restored to another group in the Same installation of Contract Manager.
As expalined earlier, this was happening without any error until we installed the Contract Management Exchange Module. Since then we have uninstalled the module, but the error continues.
    Oracle Support - April 2, 2012 12:37:10 AM GMT-04:00 [Notes]
    Hello. Thanks for your reply.
1- Does this issue happen with one single project backup or multiple backup files?
2- Is the single project backup being restored to the same version of Contract Management system as where the backup was
    taken?
3- If only happening with one backup please upload the single project backup file to this SR. This way I can restore the file to a test environment for research.

    Data Request
Hello. Thank you for contacting Oracle Primavera support.
    A few questions:
1- What is the version and build of Contract Management? (This can be found in the upper right corner of the log on screen)
2- What is the error message or behavior that occurs when attempting to restore the backup?
3- Does the project already exist in the group to which the backup is being restored?
4- What application server is being used with Contract Management? JBOSS or Weblogic?
    - If you are unsure which app server is being used do the following
    a. On the web server machine right click my computer and choose manage > expand services and apps > click on services
    b. Scroll through services and look for the service named either Contract Manager or Primavera Contract Management. If this service exists
then open My Computer > open the drive that has your installed programs and look for a folder named JBOSS 5.0.1 GA
    c. If both of the above exist then your running JBOSS if neither of the above exist then go to step d.
    d. Open My computer and look for either of the below folders:
    [drive letter]:\bea\user_projects\domains\[Contract Management domain name]
    [drive letter]:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\[Contract Management domain name]
    e. If either of the above folders exist then it is likely that Weblogic is being used as the application server.
    Thank you.

We back up the project before processing monthly pay requisitions, so that it can be restored in case the process is to be reversed. Till last month it was working properly. Anyone have any idea about this error message?
    Thanks

I've experienced this also and I would then try the same project the next day and it worked OK. Sometimes the backup file does not get completely written for whatever reason. Try again sometime when there is no one else logged in. ALSO, and more importantly, make sure that you are selecting a LOCAL path when backing up. As in your local C or D drive. Don't assume that your "My Documents" folder is local either because in many organizations that is on a network drive somewhere.

  • Backup Issue of exchange server 2007 mailbox store

    Dears
Exchange server 2007 with CCR clustering
I have got a problem with the backup of one of my mailbox store. Its going till the last and giveing the final error as follows:-
V-79-57344-65247 - A failure occurred reading an object.
    Also the warning as follows:-
Backup- \\mailserver.domain\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group
WARNING: "\\mailserver.domain\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group\Database" is a corrupt file. This file cannot verify.
Backup V-79-57344-34108 - An unexpected error occurred when cleaning up snapshot volumes. Confirm that all snapped volumes are correctly resynchronized with the original volumes.
Does it mean my information store is really a corrupted file. It has been properly monted and logs are genearting.
Even when I checked the last full backedup log file from the management shell it clearly shows the backing up is properly happened on the log files.
When I checked the event log of Exchnage server I can see these logs:-
    Event ID 401, 403 errors
The size of the problem store is 308 GB.
One of the other store with 46 GB is backing up without any issue

    Hi,
If you have a space issue with the Exchange server, you can upgrade drives on active node and passive node one by one. It is not recommended to upgrade them at the same time.
For more information about upgrading Exchange 2007 CCR active node or passive node, here are some helpful threads for your reference.

  • VCB/VADP, ESX 4.1 and NetWare vm snapshot backup issue

    Hi!
If you are running Netware as a guest in VMware ESX 4.1 and are using backup
software that uses the snapshot feature to backup the guests vmdk then you
may run into an issue that causes the snapshot to fail. This was just
documented by VMware on Feb 23 (two days ago) so you may have not seen this
yet. Here is the url to the VMware kb:
    http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1029749
The fix is to install the older v4.0 vmware tools into the NetWare guest.
    Cheers,
    Ron

The cause is simple, the database has not been shutdown cleanly. You will require to restart the database and shutdown again, if in a RAC you will have to shutdown all instances cleanly.
Disabing archive log and attempting to backup the database will demonstrate the cause.

This is simply because we issue a shutdown abort on the instance. However, just preforming a recovery will allow you to backup as required.

  • File Backup issues

So, I started a files disk backup yesterday on my m9517c desktop pc. Disk # 25 was in the drive when I fell asleep, late last night. This morning, my monitor has an HP Icon bouncing around, instead of the usual windows vista icon. My mouse will not wake up the screen and touching a key on the keyboard didn't work either. I DO NOT want to start this process over (had to start over yesterday after disk #5 because the pc shut down, and also a couple of previous attempts have not been completed, wasting many CD-R disks) due to the time and disks involved. Shouldn't I be able to wake using the keyboard and then resume where I left off. I was so close to reaching task completion, according to the green progress bar, early this A.M.

    Hi @shay3 ,
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publically post ( serial numbers and case details).
