Backup iTunes in Windows XP?

Now that my phone is all set up, how can one back up simply the iTunes app and files necessary for restoring should one's disk drive crash? (I can't do a whole disk backup for a while so would like to gete all the iTunes stuff backed up until I can do that)?
This is a Windows XP machine.
(BTW, does anyone know why I have to use this same machine to log into the discussions? I tried it on another machine while this one was busy and it insisted on setting up a new account - ??)

Thanks - those are great articles. I do have two questions after reading through them. I tried to follow the "External Drive" backup web page, since that's what is applicable to my situation. Here're my questions:
I already had set my iTunes folder to be "c:\media files\iTunes" since that was a place I customarily put such things. I don't see anything in there that looks out of the ordinanry. (I have "show hidden files and folders" turned on.) I see the subdirectories where I place various music and video files, and after going through the document and checking "copy files to iTunes music folder" and doing the "consolidate" option, I didn't see any message and no disk activity. When I examined the "c:\media files\iTunes" directory again I saw nothing different.
1 - So will I actually get a backup as planned if I write that directory to another disk?
2 - Where are things like the settings and applications?

  • Backup ITunes in Windows Vista

    Hi,
Can someone please advise the best way to backup Itunes (10.2.2.12)?  Need to backup the full thing, as i am going to windows 7 new install rather than an upgrade.  Music is easy to backup in my music folder, copy over and tell ituneds to use that as my library.
However i am worried i will connect my iphone and ipad and it will sync to the blank apps list and remove all my apps from the device.  So can someone please advise how i backup my applications so i can restore them back when on windows 7.
I know i can redownload them for free, but i will never remember which apps i have and that will take ages.  Also doesn't itunes always think that is right so if i reinstall and have no apps in itunes and i plug in my iphone with it's apps it will sync with the empty itunes and remove all the apps off the phone?  Or will i be lucky and it will sync the apps from the phone to itunes?
Any help would be great on how to backup everything in itunes (Music, apps, ipad and iphone backups) and restore to a new install in windows 7.
Would have been easy if the backup function would have backed up to an external HD instead of demanding loads of dvd's!
    Many Thanks,
    Craig

    Try this:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
This will move the contents of the iPod to your computer. and sync the iPod to the computer.
It appears to me that something is wrong/corrupt with your music backup.

  • How do you backup iTunes in windows 8

Can't backup because I can't find the File option

There is no backup option in iTunes, that was removed years ago.
Backup iTunes and the media on your computer the same way you would any other data on your computer.
External hard drives are a good option, copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder to the external drive.

  • I upgraded to iOS8.1.3, and now when I attempt to backup my iPad to iTunes for Windows, it keeps popping up an error message

    H. I upgraded to iOS8.1.3, and now when I attempt to backup my iPad to iTunes for Windows, it keeps popping up an error message "not enough space on the computer". There is over 130Gb of space! I have updated iTunes, but no change. Is it an issue in the iOS update? Or am I doing something wrong?
    Would appreciate your guidance...
    <Subject Edited by Host>

When you upgraded, itunes should have put a copy of the itunes library database in a folder named *Previous iTunes Libraries* . If you upgraded itunes today it will show as
    iTunes Library 2010-02-28.itl
Use these directions to get it back
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967
Since I am not sure of your setup, look for the "Previous" folder on both your C: and F: drives.

  • IPod touch erased when I updated and synced it on a different operating system.  Forgot password to backup file.  Windows 7 is a bust for the newest version of itunes.  Tired of fooling with it, so I tried to update and sync ipod to hubby's laptop.

Sooooooo sick of trying to fix the bug with the newest version of itunes and Windows 7.  I'm over it.  Tried syncing ipod to hubby's laptop.  When update and sync was complete, all my apps, music, and pictures were gone.  When I open my itunes account on his computer, they are gone from there as well.  I cannot open itunes on my computer because I cannot fix the compatability issue.  Don't tell me how to go to 'computer', click 'program files' etc. etc......  Did that, unchecked compatability mode and nothing is fixed.  About to take a hammer to darned thing.

Also, I have forgotten the password to my backup file, which could solve everthing.  I don't really remember ever setting a password for the backup file.  Tried every password I've ever used with this device.

  • Very slow CD import (and Backup) with itunes using Windows 7

I just got a new HP Pavilion Windows 7. It takes hours to import a CD thru itunes - seconds thru any other software. I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes (all components) multiple times. Apple phone support was no help. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thank you

It's probably something else entirely, but just check under *Edit > Preferences > General > Import Settings* that you don't have a tick in the box marked *Use error correction when reading Audio CDs*.

*Fast backup for iTunes library (Windows Only)*
Grab SyncToy 2.1, a free tool from MS. This can be used to copy your entire iTunes library (& other important data folders) onto another hard drive or network share. You can then use SyncToy periodically to synchronise or echo your library to the backup. A preview will show which files need to be updated giving you a chance to spot unexpected changes and during the run only the new or updated files will be copied saving lots of time. And if your media is all organised below the main iTunes folder then you should also be able to open the backup library on any system running the same version of iTunes.

  • Cant delete backup in iTunes or Windows 7

iTunes says that me backup file is corrupt and that I have to delete it to backup my iPhone 3GS. Trying to delete the backup, but itunes has no backup file and windows 7 has no appdata file! Any help would be great. Btw I sync to the cloud, is this an issue?

    Does it charge?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try another cable
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.

  • How to fix applepushservice.dll issues for downloading iTunes on Windows 7 64 bit

I recently had iTunes crash on my home PC, Windows 7 64-bit.  I have tried several attempts to uninstall and reinstall the program and it still does not work and I receive error messages.  The latest:  The program can't start because ApplePushService.dll is missing from your computer.  Try reinstalling the program to fix the problem.  Problem is, the articles that I have seen state this is an Unknown source and my firewall will not allow it to be installed.  The original error was a Windows Error 7 (registry & .dll issues).  Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

  • How can I get my iTunes from windows to mac

I just bought this macbook pro, which I love, but I don't want my iphone to erase during sync, how do I get my Itunes Windows stuff onto my Itunes Mac??

From your Old Computer... Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..
An Added Bonus is that you will then have a Backup of iTunes...

If you connect your ipod to your computer then look in the hidden folder labeled "iPod_Control" . (This is on a Mac version, but i think it's the same for Windows) and in "Music" is all your music mixed up in different folders. Just drag the MUSIC folder onto itunes then BAM! It's done ;D

  • I now have itunes for windows 8 on my laptop and I cannot transfer a new song from my library to a playlist on my iPad mini using IOS 8.1.3

I upgraded to iTunes for windows on my Windows 8.1 64 bit laptop.  I have not done any iTunes manipulations for many months.  I just purchased a new song.  I now have IOS 8.1.3 on my iPad Mini and I tried to move the new song from my library from my purchased file to a playlist.  I can no longer click and drag the song from anything to the playlist.  In addition, when I sync my iPad to my laptop none of my music from the iPad shows up in iTunes on the computer.  Why does Apple continuously mess around with the simple actions of the program.  It is very disheartening to be treated like this as a long time customer.  This has happened so many times that I am getting the feeling that they seem to enjoy screwing up the users ability to use the program

Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then  "About This Mac".  Write down what it says about "version"and report that here.  Now continue to "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
    Check system requirements:
    Snow Leopard 10.6 Technical Requirements - http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The main issue might be having too little RAM.  Most computers run newer systems more smoothly with more RAM than Apple says is a "minimum" for running that system version
After installing 10.6.3 run the updater to 10.6.8, then upgrade iTunes.
Jan. 2014 post by Kappy on doing all this: https://discussions.apple.com/message/24599931
The new system should install on top of the old one.  That said, things have been known to go wrong and it makes sense to do a backup before installing the new system.  In fact you seem to care about your files and things so you need to always have a backup because one day you will wake up and you hard drive will be dead and everrything on it gone.  Buy an external hard drive and start using Time Machine or something to back up. The other risk is when you install the new iTunes.  It doesn't happen frequently given the millions of users but there are daily posts here from people who for some reason the installation wiped out their whole library.  If you have a backup then there's nothing to worry about.
This is well within what many people can do at home.  It's a matter of inserting an optical disc and clicking you way through menus.

  • Can't sync iPad 2 or iPhone 4 since updating iTunes on Windows 7.

Since upgrading my iPad 2 and my iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3.4 I havebeen unable to properly sync both devices with iTunes 10.4.0.80. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit. The issue is when it goes to sync my contacts and calendar with Outlook 2010, it will just sit there for > 30 mins doing nothing but “syncing contacts”, not going beyond that point. I have to cancel sync to get out of it. Steps I have taken include unticking sync contacts, calendar, bookmarks and notes, (this allows apps and photos to sync without issue) , removing the Apple USB device in Device Manager, and finally reinstalling iTunes.
I’ve never had sync issues with previous iOS and iTunesversions on this PC.
I’m out of ideas, any help out there, please?

None of the solutions in this thread or other similar threads have worked for me. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all Apple files using the correct sequence. I have disabled all Outlook plugins except for the two Apple plugins. I have disabled Bonjour and run Itunes in Windows 7 Compatibility mode.
I also seem to have a slightly different issue and I think the issue may be with the Outlook Itunes plugin or the Outlook Change Notifier plugin.
Here's my situation since upgrading to iTunes 10.4.0.80 and iOS 4.3.5 - although the issues started with earlier versions of 10.4 and 4.3. I am using Outlook 2010 32 bit version on Windows 7 64 bit version. I am using Outlook with a PST file not MS Exchange.
    1. The sync appears to go okay with the backup, preparing to sync, syncing contacts, syncing calender, syncing notes, etc. Successful backups are shown in the Device tabs in Preferences and if I run iTunes diagnostics all tests are successful.
    2. Any edits I make in Contacts or Calender on my iPhone are not apparent in Outlook after a sync. The Notes seem to sync just fine.
    3. Edits I make to Contacts or Calender in MS Outlook are inconsistently synced to my iPhone. Sometimes they sync and sometimes they don't.
    4. No for the really wierd part. If I connect my iPad and sync all of the edits that were originally done on the iPhone are present and correct on the iPad. However, again edits that were originally done in Outlook are sporadic.
So it appears to me that the data in the Outlook file is probably syncing correctly but that the display of the data within outlook is not correct. This makes me think the Outlook Change Notifier might be the issue. I just don't know how to test this or fix this. I know there is a cache used with MS Exchange but I cannot find any cache with a PST file.
Any help or other ideas would be appreciated.
