Backup keeps failing with error 0x07EF9

Started an initial backup (manually) over a weekend then stopped it before it had completed. Selected the option to start next backup at where it was stopped. Since then, the backup job keeps failing with the error
An unexpected error occurred during the operation. (0x07EF9)
Any ideas how to fix this. I have cancelled the schedule then rescheduled it but still the same result.
I have tried manually running it as well but it still fails.

Hi John,
Thanks for posting here!
It looks like something is blocking Azure backup. Could be an Anti Virus software on the computer, which is locking the files the Azure Backup is trying to access while backup is initiated. OR if there is a 3rd party backup software which is running at the
same time while azure backup is scheduled to backup files and folders. As a result the backup is failing with no luck.
You might want to start looking at the logs and see if you find anything which is causing this problem. This might help narrow down the issue.

Sadiqh

  • Windows 7 Backup is Failing with error 0x81000101

    Hello,
My windows 7 backup is failing with the following message "Error Code: 0x81000101". I searched the internet but didn't find any good solution.
Can you please tell me what should I do?

If none of the above worked read this next
Did your computer come with a Recovery Partition on the drive? (Check the computers documentation)
If it did, you cannot have any backup software or System Restore set to backup or monitor that drive.
    Go to Control Panel.
Click on Classic View in the Task Pane.
    Double click System.
Select Advanced System Settings in the Tasks Pane.
    Click the System Protection Tab.
In the Available Disks section, make sure that the backup partition is not selected. If it is, remove the check mark.
After this is done or if this does not work, go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools and click on Disk Cleanup.
In the Options dialog, select 'Files from all users on this computer'. Click the C: system drive. When the scan is completed, click the 'More Options' Tab. In the 'System Restore and Shadow Copies' section, click the 'Cleanup' button. In the 'Are you sure......' popup, click Delete. Click OK.
Wait for the Disk Cleanup to complete.
Now, go back into Disk Cleanup and follow the same procedure for any other drives that appear in the drop down menu where you selected the C: drive the first time.
Exit everything and reboot the computer.
After the computer reboots, check System Restore again. If System Restore is still not working, go back into System Protection and turn off System Restore for all drives and reboot the computer again. This will delete all restore points on all drives.
After the reboot, go back and enable System Restore for the C: volume only. Create a new restore point for that drive.
    Let me know the results.

  • Time Machine backups suddenly failing with error 109 (console errors inc.)

I've been using Time Machine over my Airport Extreme Base Station for months without a single error, and all of the sudden it fails constantly with the error:
*The backup disk image “/Volumes/TARDIS-1/Derek’s iMac_001f5bf60eb1.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error 109).*
I've tried selecting the drive again since it's mounted fine. It's mounted as TARDIS, not TARDIS-1, which I thought was a clue to the problem until I went to the Console to see all of the errors:

I've seen others say that Time Machine quit working after updating to Snow Leopard, but i've been running it since launch and the problems only appeared yesterday. Ideas?

I'm not sure why you call it a "phantom" drive, because I was quite intentionally connected to that network drive. In any case, I did as you recommended, in case that was the issue (though over the months I've often been connected to the network drive). Sadly, no dice.

I assume you installed Oracle as "Administrator" user. If so, make sure you are running the job from the same user. Optionally open "services.msc" and go to the "ORCL Service" or whatever it may and check "Log on" tab. It should be "logon as" value should be "Local system". If you are using a domain then give credentials accordingly. Make sure you are part of "DBA" group.
The ORA-12546 TNS:permission denied points to "Insufficient permissions to trace/log files" - check the trace/log destination is writable and requisite permissions are given.

  • Backup job fails with error

The error message is: RemoteOperationException: Failed to establish input-streaming thread
In researching this, there was an article that talked about increasing the ThreadPool to MEDIUM. But this didn't help.
If I retry the backup after it fails, it runs without any problem.
This is GC 10.2.0.3 on Sun Solaris. Does anyone have a workaround for this?
    Thanks.

    Try this script...
    File Naming Format DBname_YYYYDDMM.BAK
    DECLARE @name VARCHAR(50) -- database name
DECLARE @path VARCHAR(256) -- path for backup files
    DECLARE @fileName VARCHAR(256) -- filename for backup
DECLARE @fileDate VARCHAR(20) -- used for file name
    -- specify database backup directory
    SET @path = 'C:\Backup\'
    -- specify filename format
    SELECT @fileDate = CONVERT(VARCHAR(20),GETDATE(),112)
    DECLARE db_cursor CURSOR FOR
    SELECT name
    FROM master.dbo.sysdatabases
WHERE name NOT IN ('master','model','msdb','tempdb') -- exclude these databases
    OPEN db_cursor
FETCH NEXT FROM db_cursor INTO @name
    WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0
    BEGIN
    SET @fileName = @path + @name + '_' + @fileDate + '.BAK'
    BACKUP DATABASE @name TO DISK = @fileName
FETCH NEXT FROM db_cursor INTO @name
    END
    CLOSE db_cursor
    DEALLOCATE db_cursor
    File Naming Format DBname_YYYYDDMM_HHMMSS.BAK
If you want to also include the time in the filename you can replace this line in the above script:
    -- specify filename format
    SELECT @fileDate = CONVERT(VARCHAR(20),GETDATE(),112)
    with this line:
    -- specify filename format
    SELECT @fileDate = CONVERT(VARCHAR(20),GETDATE(),112) + REPLACE(CONVERT(VARCHAR(20),GETDATE(),108),':','')

  • Time Capsule backup constantly failing with error message - error message 11 but different file.

    Hi
I have had problems with my backup failing since 12 June
Most of the time I get error message 11 (have had error message 31 once) and each time it is a different file. The last failure gave this message in console
    17/06/2011 13:20:11          com.apple.backupd[1743]          Indexing a file failed. Returned 200 for: /Applications/Microsoft Office 2011/Office/CalendarCore.framework, /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb/Stephen Dalziel’s iMac/2011-06-16-232227.inProgress/10F26F18-689F-47D2-959E-964D07E82445/Macintos h HD/Applications/Microsoft Office 2011/Office/CalendarCore.framework
I have followed Pondini C3 by excluding the file from the first message but then failure occurred with a different file so excluded that and it failed again.
Went through repair A5 - that took an age even connecting via ethernet - still not working.
I have to confess that before I got to Pondini troubleshooting I googled the problem and a forum said delete latest and partial backups from sparse bundle - I did this via Finder and now I can't get rid of them from trash - discovered via Pondini I shouldn't have done this and tried E6 but without success.
    What are my options?
I can use a computer but technical jargon is like Hieroglyphics to me so if you can reply in simple plain English that would be useful

Did you delete the Latest alias, and/or the most reccent time-stamped backup?  If so, your backups are toast.
Your only option is to erase the Time Capsule's disk and let Time Machine start fresh.  See To erase everything on the Time Capsule’s internal disk in #Q5 of Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule.

  • Download Assistant for Mac keeps failing with Error 109

I used to download Adobe products just fine before the "Assistant" requirement.  I have the latest Adobe Air, and the latest Assistant.  It keeps giving error 109, and I have followed the troubleshooting document to remove the preference file, and cache folder.  My network connection is fine, as I am able to download other SW from other sites just fine.
The only thing that may be left is that we use a proxy server, and maybe this download assistant is using a CDN to distribute the download?  We whitelist all the IT companies like Adobe, Microsoft, Apple, etc, so that Updates can be applied without authenticating with the proxy, so maybe this utility is using a different URL other than Adobe.com?
I'll have to do some packet sniffing on my end to see exactly what's happening, but it's a bit frustrating that this tool is supposed to make downloading easier, but I have now spent almost an hour on this, and now more time will be spent.
Maybe offering the user an "old fashioned" download through your browser link for times like this?

Hi, Thanks for replying.  I ended up using 'WireShark' to 'sniff' my traffic, and was able to extract the direct link of the product:
    http://trials3.adobe.com/AdobeProducts/DSST/CS6/osx10/DesignWebPremium_CS6_LS16.dmg
Unfortunately, that hangs as well.  I've tried Chrome, Firefox, and Safari on the Mac.  It must be something our proxy doesn't like, because I'm seeing the requests, it's just I never "get anything back".
I've got another network I can try that's for our visitor's to use, which is just a basic DSL connection, with a wide open firewall.  That should take our proxy out of the equation, but everything else w do with Adobe works fine with the proxy.  We have 12 seats of CS5, and just upgraded to CS6 (hence the download requirement) and I've never had a problem.
(I also did follow that troubleshooting link before I posted this issue)

    Hi Glenn,
Thanks for the suggestion. Nope, it's not listed. The only thing listed is my Time Machine volume.
After a reboot, Time Machine seems to be working. It's making backups on schedule and the logs look good, not reporting any strangeness.
A bit bummed about these phantom errors that go away on reboot. I'll keep on eye on the error/reboot frequency.

  • Backups failing with error 19: the backup disk could not be resolved, or there was a problem mounting it

    Hello all,
Doubt this issue relates to a recent and ugly issue but sharing anyways (resolved thanks to a user here: LaPastenague)
Time Capsule won't backup if Modem (Motorola SB6121) attached
This was on Feb 10th resolved. Few days later I upgraded to Yosemite.  Backups were working fine since.
Yesterday I happen to notice my last backup was 5 days ago.  I looked in the console logs and saw:

I called Apple.  Their front line was clueless. He suggested resetting the TC (latest "tower" model btw") which then a backup kicked off YEAH
But the next hour it failed
Called Apple again, this time to Sr Advisor.  He suggested factory reset of the TC and set up again.  Also first backup worked then rest failed
Third call to Apple useless also.  He was asking questions I didn't feel relevant.  He also was asking me to reset the TC which I told him was done 2 hours prior. He asked me to reboot which I could NOT at that time.
I begged him to collect data to submit to engineering, which will take days to get a reply.
So I thought I would throw this out to the community....
TC Is NEW (replaced from last issue).  Mac is 8 months old (iMac 27"), Os is Yosemite,  TC also new (latest model)
    Thanks...

Yosemite is problematic on two fronts.. Networking and Time Machine.. so the combo of doing both with a Time Capsule is like bugs on bugs.
Here is my standard list.. but your problem maybe difficult to resolve.. and my suggestion is simple.. until Apple get their act together and fix TM.. buy Carbon Copy Cloner and use that for your backup. It is solid and reliable.. even better if you use USB drive plugged into the computer and do a bootable clone.. because then you have a backup that is able to be tested for full functionality 2min after the end of the backup.
This also starts from a factory reset.. but the reason for it is to change the configuration which is much more easily handled with factory reset to begin.. the instructions are there.. because this is my standard reply.. this is not uncommon!!
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking. If the TC is main router it will not be an issue.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. but this change will mess up your TM backup.. so be prepared to do a new full backup. Sorry.. keep this one for second round if you want to avoid a new backup.
    5. Mount the TC disk in the computer manually.
In Finder, Go, Connect to server from the top menu,
Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever the TC ip is which you have now made static. As a router by default it is 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with that unless you know what you are doing).
You can use name.. SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your TC name.. local is the default domain of the TC and doesn't change.
However names are not so easy as IP address.. nor as reliable. At least not in Yosemite they aren't. The domain can also be an issue if you are not plugged or wireless directly to the TC.
    6. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
You might need to do some more work on the Mac itself. eg Reset the PRAM.. has helped some people. Clean install of the OS is also helpful if you upgrade installed.
    Tell us how you go.
Someone posted a solution.. See this thread.
Macbook can't find Time Capsule anymore
Start from the bottom and work up.. What I list here is good network practice changes but I have avoided Yosemites bug heaven.

Yosemite has serious DNS bug in the networking application.. here is the lets say more arcane method of fixing it by doing a network transplant from mavericks.

  • DAG - Backup failing on 1 DB only with error - The Microsoft Exchange Replication service VSS Writer instance ID failed with error code 80070020 when preparing for a backup of database 'DB012'

    Hi Board,
i´ve search across the board, technet and symantec sites but did not found a hint about my problem.
    we drive a 2 node DAG (Location1-Ex1-mb1
    Location2-exc1-mb1), on SP2 RU4 patchlevel with 40 Databases.
Since some time the backup of one - and only one DB - is failing with these events, logged on the Mailboxserver on which the passive DB is hosted.

The backup Application - Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R3 – states, this error
Snapshot provider error (0xE000FED1): A failure occurred querying the Writer status.
Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.
Writer Name: Exchange Server, Writer ID: {76FE1AC4-15F7-4BCD-987E-8E1ACB462FB7}, Last error: The VSS Writer failed, but the operation can be retried (0x800423f3), State: Stable (1).
    Symatec suggests within http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH184095
to restart the MS Exchange Replication Service – BUT the mentioned eventID
8229 isn´t present on any of the both Mailboxservers.
The affected Database is active on Location2-Exc1-Mb1 Server and in an overall healthy state. I found during my research, that below Location2-Exc1-Mb1 Server, there are not removed shadow copies present!
This confuses me, since all Backups are normally taken from the passive copy of a Database.
So my questions to the board are:
    * Does anyone is facing similar issues?
    * Can someone explain why snapshots are present on the Mailboxserver hosting the Active Database, whilst the errors are logged on the passive one?
    -          * Does someone know the conditions, why shadows copies remain and
aren´t removed in a proper manner?
What can cause the circumstance, that only 1 DB is facing such issues?
    Any suggestion is welcome!
    BR

    Hi Lenora,
I´ve encreases VSS / Exchange Backup Log levels to expert, before starting
those things i´ve all tried now:
    - Backup from passive DB (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
    - Backup from active DB (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
    - Backup from passive DB without GRT enabled (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
    - Backup from active DB without GRT enabled(forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
    All those attempts failed.
But brought some more details - the backup against the active DB states, that there is still a backup in progress and therefore this backup is cancelled by VSS.
The Solution was, that i´ve needed to restart the Exchange Replication Service on the Mailbox Server hosting the passive DB.
Backups are working again on all DBs!
    THX for your replys.
    Best regards
    Markus
