brustee:
If the disk was burned via iPhoto's Share->Burn Disk menu option then, yes, it will be compatible and viewable by iPhoto 7. Event earlier backup disks, iPhoto 5, are readable and useable by iPhoto like this. You can just view the photos or drag them into the new library.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Restoring a Data Backup Made With HP Recovery Manager - Recovery Manager has Since Been Removed

My system (Pavilion dm4 notebook, Win 7 Home Premium x64)) is working fine but I would like to restore a data backup made with HP Recovery Manager. HP Recovery Manager has since been removed from the system and I do not have a recovery disk. I tried installing sp45415 which supposedly runs a silent installer for Recovery Manager, but it silently fails on my system. The accompanying notes say it is applicable to Windows 7 computers and to Pavilion dm1 and dm3. There is no mention of the dm4. Is there some trick to getting sp45415 to run correctly? Is there somewhere I can download an installation package for HP Recovery Manager that works on the Pavilion dm4? Is there any other tool that can restore the backup made by HP Recovery Manager?  Thanks!

If you uninstalled Recovery Manager it likely removed the recovery files in the recovery partition. When those files are removed-no download of Recovery Manager is going to install. You will need Recovery Media to boot from to restore the recovery partition and files. If you did not make Recovery Media you will have to order from HP. As for the files you are trying to restore- If this was a backup of personal files, photos, etc to external hard drive or dvds there should be one .exe file inside those files-probably Restore.exe or Recover.exe. Double clicking the .exe will extract the files to a folder on the hard drive of your laptop.

  • Backups made with Time M. from M. Lion disappear LaCie external HD ( "Big Disk Extreme" 500GB ) , after upgrading to Mavericks.

Before  upgrading to Mavericks proceed to make the most recent backup ( as  often recommended as prevention against faults ), with M. Lion and Time M. on an external LaCie 500 GB HD . After  the update without problems , proceed to restore iPhoto library as  Mavericks and not on what my surprise is not in the backups made , have  disappeared . Are only backups that you have made and the new OS with the new version I just bought iPhoto 9.5.1 for Mavericks. So  do not get nothing but lose money because the new version does not seem  to add anything new , but they are adapted to the new OS
Also  in M. Time preferences , options appear as "excluded items back up " a  series of folders that were not before, not excluded by me but by the  process of upgrading to Mavericks, even folders whose names appear as not exist , then were changed months ago , now appear in M. Time Options to  be excluded from the backup with their old names ( folders located on  the MacPro in other HD 's connected HD different OS and different LaCie  HD ) . I also remember that after several backups performed by Mavericks notice that appears Time M. will  delete old backups to continue making new copies ( not allowed to say  no) , even though the backup HD LaCie is showing more than 20 GB  unoccupied.
Where have gone those backups M.Lion ? . What is the best way to recover them, and that not all recovery software are equal ? . Is it best to disconnect the MacPro the LaCie HD and wait for Apple to fix it ?
    Thanks for your help .

Anyone that has used a LaCie, especially D2 or what you have, has run into the problem of...
weak power supply adapter, firmware on the FW bridge issue, failures, or the more common "discharge all the current on your cables and bus by unplugging everything" fix once or more.
Those are all foreign to me!
And I am using 6 FW drives regularly and a couple that are just emergency boot drives updated monthly.
For all I know, you might be able to throw your old drives into cases and get some more good use from them as well.
I prefer to not rely on a built-in bridge to do RAID, and to use Apple Disk Utility or another program like www.softraid.com to do so.
Depending on how much use those drive cases get, do they get just warm, very warm or hot, during operations? or just for backup?
And if you want RAID for editing or scratch or performance, look into eSATA. And cases with fans, ventilation, and that keep the drives to a reasonable temperature (below 44ºC and hopefully in the 30's).

  • Incremental Backup possible with iPhoto '08?

Hi - I've always run a couple backup schemes for my iMac, and with iPhoto '08 it has become a lot more time intensive as the backup programs are now always replacing the entire iPhoto library in an incremental backup as opposed to incremental backup within the iPhoto folder (which was the case in iPhoto '06). Doesn't seem to be a problem for TimeMachine. But is a major issue for other programs I use (including Mozy, which has to upload 40GB everytime I add a photo to iPhoto, which is crazy!!; as well as syncing the library to an external drive and my MacBook).
Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?
    Thanks!!

Synk Standard does look inside the iPhoto Library package and backs up only those files that are new or have been changed. Most of my libraries can be incrementally backed up in less than 1 minute. My 29,000 file library takes 2.5 minutes, only 16 seconds if I've not rebooted since the last backup and using it's ZeroScan feature.

  • Buy a photo book made with iPhoto 08?

I've made a photo book on an iMac running 10.8.5 with iPhoto 08 (7.1.5). When I pressed "buy", it said it was not possible with this version. I can't upgrade the machine or software (it's not my machine). Is there a work-around? Is there a way of exporting the finished project so that I can import it and buy it on a more up-to-date machine? Thanks.

You can purchase your book from other sources - google is your friend - one source  to look at is PrestoPrint
You can upgrade to iPhoto '11 by purchasing an iLife '11 DVD from Amazon or eBay and installing iPhoto '11 and upgrading to the latest version or system supports
You can make a copy of your entire iPhoto library (there is no way to export a book except as a DF which can not be used to order from Apple and can not be edited) and open it on a Mac with iphoto '-9 or '11 and order -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it. - check the preview carefully as i is possible that some things change when you change versions

  • HT201882 reprint of book made with iPhoto?

Many years ago I made a book for my wife in iPhoto.  Is there any way to order a reprint of the same book? I no longer have the book/project in my iphoto library.

For future books you might consider doing what I do:  create a separate library for each book and copy the photos for the book from your working library to the book library with iPhoto Library Manager.
When the book is completed and ordered burn the library package to a CD, DVD or external HD to archive it so it's available for editing and reordering at a later date if needed.

  • Restoring from backups made with Rapid Restore Ultra 4

    Hi!
I have a T41 and it (windows XP SP2 + all IBM security software on top) crashed totally after performing some automatic updates from windows update. No worries, I thought and installed all from scratch. While trying to get all the latest software installed I also accidentially went and got the new Rescue and Recovery 4.2 and installed that. Now when I try to get access to the old backups on an USB drive, made with Rapid Restore Ultra, the R&R doesn't recognize the old backups.
Any ideas on how to continue?
I wouldn't like to set up everything again from scratch and hope that the factory settings have a working version of the Rapid Restore pre-installed...
    Thanks!
ps. booting with F11 or from the external USB drives "emergency  boot disk" do not work. Both end up with automatic reboot of the system without any chance for user input.

    Ok... found a solution.
First of all, all backups are deleted when you uninstall Rapid Restore Ultra 4.0, so if all else fails, there's always that option.
However, there is a much easier way to delete backups without having to uninstall the program. Now, let me begin by saying that this is THE MOST COUNTER-INTUITIVE PROCESS ever devised. Get this... in order to delete a backup, you have to select CREATE a backup!! how stupid is that?  here's a detailed explanation...
Assumption: You want to delete existing backups created with Rapid Restore Ultra 4.0
    1. launch Rapid Restore Ultra 4.0
    2. go to the Backup menu and select Backup Now
    3. you should see a pie chart... click OK
    4. a dialog box will appear asking you where you want to save your backup.
    5. uncheck ALL boxes... by unchecking the boxes, you are effectively deleting any existing backups previously created at those locations.
    6. click OK... you'll get a warning message telling you that your previous backups will be deleted... just click ok.
    7. your existing backups will be deleted!
As stupid as that sounds, that is the OFFICIAL way to delete backups. Way to make it user-friendly guys! Good job! You can also find information about this process here, which I was able to finally dig up after 2 days of googling...

  • Search a backup made with Backup for Mac

I made several backups of old e-mail files using Backup for Mac (Mobile Me v.3.2.) Is there a way to search for specific e-mails within that file?

No. Mobile Me disappeared several years ago along with that backup software. If you have the old software and can still run it, then you also can use it to restore from an old backup file made with the software.

  • Restore Backup made with Backup and Restore W7 x64

    Hi ....
Im really looking for some help here...
I had my laptop stolen and my now trying to recover a 2013 Backup Image made with a Windows tool called Backup and Restore.
The backup was made with a W7 SP1 64bit using Windows own Backup/Restore utility to create a system image on an external HDD connected by USB port.
The application saved the image into a folder called WindowsImageBackup. Inside this folders there are 2 *.VHD file
So as my laptop was Stolen, im trying to recover this old Backup and save my files again.
I would like to restore that previous Image. These are the steps I took:
    1) Plugged in the HDD.
    2) I went to Control Panel->Backup and Restore.
    3) I selected 'Select another backup to restore files from'.
    4) In the Restore Files (Advanced) dialogue, my backup isn't showing into the box, because its on my external drive, so i choose browse network location
    5) I clicked 'browse network location' button, and it takes me to another restore files (advanced) dialogue that asks for network folder path.  I tried to locate my external HD, without success. So i tried Search Network. As i also have a copy of my
backup on my NAS, i tried to inform the network IP path, but it didnt locate the backup either. I get the error that windows was not able to find any backup sets in that directory.
    6) As the step 5 resulted in nothing, i tried the option: Recover system settings or Computer. And then Advanced recovery methods. And finally use previously system image to recover computer. And then Windows asks to reboot the computer and once rebooted
it starts on recovery mode where it cant find my backup image either.
So, how can i recover my backup?
I saw that the Backup created 2 VHD files and also tried to mount the VHD using Disk Management and attaching the VHD. The VHD mounted as drive and i could finally see my files, but most of them are corrupted. So i dont know if im doing something wrong when
    attaching the VHD.
Can anyone help me please? I dont know what else to try.
    Thanks a lot
    Flavio.

  • How do you share/backup photos with iPhoto 8?

In order to be able to view photos on any of our home computers, as well as for backup purposes, I had a script which whenever activated updated the Picture folders on each computer from the one that imported the pictures.
However, after having installed iLife 08 on two computers, that script is no longer effective. It seems that my entire photo library is now in one enormous file (I have 25k pictures). One would think I could replace that file on the secondary computers with the one from the primary, but that would involve a 50+GB replacement every time -- hours instead of minutes.
    Any sagely advise available??

Select the photo(s) and click share and share to the face book album you want

  • Can I boot a Mavericks desktop computer with a bootable backup made with OS X 10.4.6?

I used to create bootable backups with SuperDuper and still have one created in 2010 from a white Intel mac (2006-era) running OS X 10.4.6. Would it be possible to boot a brand new 27" desktop running Mavericks 10.9.4 using the old bootable backup? I've never had to boot any of my computers from the bootable backups and I'd have to go searching thru my notes to find out how to do it, but I have no idea if attempting to do so could cause any harm to the new computer. If it could, I won't make the attempt.
The reason I'm considering it: I lost three computers to a lightning strike a couple weeks ago. The white Intel mac was the one I used to create GarageBand projects. I discovered that the new version of GarageBand (10.0.2) lacks many of the instruments I frequently used in my projects. Thus, I figured, if I could easily boot using the bootable backup, I could continue my GarageBand work using the version of GarageBand on the bootable backup. Good idea or totally unworkable?
Secondary follow-up question: any way to install the old version of GarageBand on the new computer using either the bootable backup or the old install disks? Although I'd like to get access to the old version, I won't do it if there's a large risk of creating problems with the new computer.
    Any advice?

    Bedruthan wrote:

No. Newer machines cannot boot with OSs that precede the one it shipped with.

Again, no. Newer machines cannot run PPC apps since they're based on Intel chips and not Motorola ones.

  • Iphoto backups - *not* with time machine

So, I've backed up my entire photo library, but not with time machine - I've just copied it over to my external disk. Now, I've removed about two-thirds of the pictures off the Macbook hard drive to make space. My problem is this: I can't actually look at the backups I've made with iphoto.
You ask iphoto to 'browse backups' + it goes into time machine, no good. You can look at the 'package contents' through finder, but that's hardly ideal either.
How on earth do I browse the backups I've just made? I know they're sitting right there on my external drive, but I can't look at them with iphoto...
    Thanks,

Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
As you noted the iPhoto "browse backup" command is specifically to browse Time Machine backups
You want to use iPhoto to look at your backup - launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) key and use the select library function
iPhoto will remain pointed to that library until you do an option launch again to change it

  • Front row error with IPhoto 6

When i'm using front row, and finish watching a slide show that I made with IPhoto, then select Library to see the slidshow of all my photos, it causes an error. It says "IPhoto is not responding. Press the play/pause button to return to the desktop". And when i return to the desktop, IPhoto opens, and the Library is selected under source on the left, but on the right it's trying to show a slideshow, but the image preview is black, and there are no thumbnails of the photos in the slideshow up top. So i click on Last Roll, or another album, but it is still showing the same black preview with no thumbnails. But when i click on the slideshow I last played, the preview loads, and all of the thumbnails are back, and basically it goes back to normal.
I provided all the details i could, if you need more info, just ask. This is the first problem i've had with my macbook, im still so glad i bought it.

  • How can I order a Photobook with iPhoto ´08?

How can I order a Photobook that I made with iPhoto ´08? I have a MacBook 2007 so I can´t upgrade to a newer Mac OS X Version than 10.6.8 to get a newer iPhoto version. Is there any other solution?

With MacOS X 10.6.8 you can run iPhoto 9.2.3  (iPhoto 9.2 .3). You cannot download it from the AppStore, but you could try to buy a boxed iLife '11 installation CD that is compatible with 10.6.8.  and then update it using Software Update to 9.2.3.
This support articles lists iPhoto 08 as able to order books from the Apple Print Store (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3412), but the iPhoto '08 books have been discontinued. All you could do, would be to print your book to pfd and to have another printstore print the pdf file, then find a book binder service to have the book bound.
