Backup method for Application Servers in 11i

Hi :
EBS version: 11.5.10.CU2 - Linux 86
I am planning to do an upgrade on the production system and wanted to take a complete backup of the EBS Environment. In the past I have always done a online backup of the application servers. I was wondering if there is any drawback in doing this. Can any one confirm if this is the correct method and if not why a cold backup is preferred?
Regards,
Bala

I was wondering if there is any drawback in doing thisAs long as the backup is taken successfully and you are able to test this backup with no issues then you should be OK.
Can any one confirm if this is the correct method and if not why a cold backup is preferred?Cold backup is preferred because is more consistent. If you can afford downtime go with the cold backup, otherwise the online backup is your only option (make sure you test the backup and have a good backup/restore strategy).
Thanks,
Hussein

  • Is that a good practice to use syncronize methods for application scope cls

Is that a good practice to use synchronize method in a application scope class, so I have a doubt, there a is class A, it has application scope and it contains a synchronized method add, so because of some network traffic or any unexpected exception client1 got stuck in the method, will that add method available for any other client...?

If it needs synchronization, then it probably doesn't belong in the application scope. Either keep it as is, or reconsider the scope, or make it static.

  • Calling a method for application scope

I have a method that initializes a hashtable.
That method should be called once when my web app starts, I need to load that hashtable into memory so whenever a user needs a value from that hashtable, it readily access the hashtable and doesn't load it everytime it is called. How do I do that?

Just put it in the application scope in the faces-config.xml?

  • Backup method for all photos in PSA starter edition 3.0

Would like specific steps to back up all my photos in PSA ED3.0 to a flash drive. I have a SonyVaio PCG- gr360 notebook with XP,512 ram & 80 gb hard drive

PSA SE has no built in backup facility.
You just need to copy over the images files using some other backup software [along with other important data perhaps].
MS Backup that comes with XP might be a good way.

  • Backup strategy for ebs R12?

    Hi,
I have a couple of questions regarding to backup strategy for ebs R12.
Let's say that we have one application server and one database server running, and we would like to have a backup periodically for both servers.
This means that we want to have the exactly same backup of configurations and other files for the application server and the database server in case of any fatal crashes in the servers.
I went through some discussion threads and it seems common way is to use RMAN for the data of database and file system copy for application and database servers. But, I would like to know what's the best way or recommended way for the backup strategy for data and server files of Oracle e-business suite.
Do you guys have any suggestion for this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers,
    SH

    Hi SH;
I suggest check first our previous discussion
backup and recovery startegy for EBS
    Re: Backup System
    Backup Policy for EBS can
If you make search you can find many other thread which is mention same question
For your issue basicly what we do
    1. For our prod db, if possible we take weekly cold backup(sunday) and take rman backup also daily(full backup, but it depends system you can prefer to take incremental)
    2. For our system we take file system backup weekly(OS base)
    3. For application we take backup every sunday(for some system 15 days or 30 days period). The most important point here if your system prod, and if you need to apply patch to your system you need to have valid backup and also need backup for after patching
One other important issue is we run preclone sh before take backup for apps and db tier

  • CUCM - Supported Backup method

    Hi !
What are the VMware backup supported by CUCM and other collaborative applications. In doc-wiki it's mentioned till CUCM 10.0 only .
Any other document which will officially confirm that whether it will support or not ?
    Thanks in Advance !!!

    Hi,
For UC applications, vm snapshots are not supported and the only supported backup method for CUCM is DRF backup. VM snapshots might lead to performance issues. You could refer below document for more details.

  • A backup method

    Hi all,
I need a documented backup method for PeopleSoft 9.0, please it´s urgent, I´ll aprice any help.
    Thanks.

    Peoplesoft is many components application.
    1. database, for the backup strategy, please refer to the database vendor recommandations
    2. tools (filesystem), please refer to the host OS vendor recommandations
    3. reports, you should have a backup policy retention for the produced reports
You should build your own backup strategy, as discussed in your duplicate thread :

  • Reports 9i and non-oracle application servers

Does Oracle Reports 9i run on any other application servers other than Oracle 9iAS?????

    hello,
Oracle9iAS Reports Services are shipped as part of Oracle9i Application Server. However, the components of Oracle9i Reports are based on common standards (J2EE Servlet, JSP) and should therefore usable with other application servers.
At this point, we provide neither instructions nor support for application servers other than Oracle9i Application Server. Problems will have to reproduce on an Oracle9i Application Server configuration in order to get support.

  • Good Application Servers?  Struts?  what to do....

Hi all I am currently charged with looking for application servers for my employer. Currently I was playing with JBoss 3.0.4, and it seems kind of cool I really like the ant and xdoclet that it uses. But we don't plan on using EJBs right now, so my question is, when do you need an application server? We don't have one now, all our pages are just on Tomcat. If we should get one what are the benefits, and which ones are good?
Also about Struts, I was wondering if anybody uses sturts, I have read the docs, and it sounds like an interesting way of doing things, but I want to know what others thought about it. So any thoughts?
    Pup

There is no need to implement something complex only if you vaguely feel that it will help you in the future.
The best thing would probably to quantify what your future requirements will be. Then you can determine whether you need to really take the EJB route. While EJB has been the most hyped up technology (at least till Web Services came along), there have been serious performance issues when EJBs have not been used appropriately for questionable reasons or improperly designed.
Of course you can always download an AppServer for free and develop prototypes/proof of concepts to understand them better and to determine whether they offer any significant advantage to you before deciding to reengineer your entire application.
I came across an excellent book from WROX press titled J2EE Design and Development: Expert One on One. There is even a sample chapter available at their site. This chapter gives a fairly good initial idea of whether you need EJBs for you application or not. See the following link:

  • Is it possible to trigger backups of callmanagers, and application servers from prime collaboration?

I have prime collaboration assuarance and analytics version 10.5  installed in my LAB setup. I could not see any other options other than the backup option under the administration tab; I beleive this option is to schedule and run backups for prime collaboration. Wonder if we have some options to trigger backups for call managers and other application servers...any help is much appreciated....cheers

    Hi,
I doubt that is possible.the below link talks about
Performing Backup and Restore for Prime Collaboration Analytics
Prime Collaboration Analytics allows you to perform backup and restore, while you continue to use the Prime Collaboration Analytics GUI. However, until the backup is complete, the data displayed in the GUI may not be the latest.

  • Agents for database and application servers

    hi all,
I have to go to a client site this week to install Gagents onto some database servers, some will be RAC and some application servers. it is on AIX. are there different agents for database and applications? In a RAC cluster do I need an agent per node?
    rgds
    alan

When installing agents in a cluster (read - RAC), during the installation, on one of the screens, you will have the option of picking up all the nodes in the cluster. Else, if you are using a push or agent deploy method, you just have to pass the correct flag (can't remember) and then list all the nodes in the cluster.
To your other questions, you do not need different agents for database, and app servers etc. The only time you would need different agents is when you are installing on different platforms.

  • Best method for incremental replication to backup xserve?

I was just trying to figure out what would be the best method for routinely incrementally replicating a primary xserve. I have a secondary that has the same hardware. I thought about using scheduled tasks with Carbon Copy Cloner over say a Crossover cable to the secondary xserve. However, doing this backup would continually wipe out the network settings for the secondary mac? I could do the replication to a secondary drive and then just make that drive the boot drive in the event of data corruption on the master server?
Where I'm at now is that the primary server runs Raid1, so in the event of a single drive failure or a hardware failure, I could swap the drives into the backup server. However, I'd like some sort of protection against data corruption on the primary xserve.
Any general thoughts on a better way to do this? Or is there software that does this well?
    Thanks

Our primary is an XServe RAID. In addition it has an external 2TB drive that I CCC all the user accounts to every night. I then setup a Mac Mini Server as a replica.
If the primary XServe has a catastrophic failure, I simply connect the 2TB drive to the Mac Mini and point the replicated user accounts to the cloned data on the 2TB drive.
I haven't tested it. But this scenario seemed like the best solution.

  • Since the FF8 update, all bookmarks were lost and none of the recommended methods for restoring lost bookmarks work; I always get "Unable to process to backup file" even though the backup .json files still exist

Since a FF8 update, all bookmarks were lost and none of the recommended restore methods work, even though I have been able to find the backup ".json" files; I continually get "Unable to process the backup file" for all methods of importing or restoring the bookmarks from the .json files. As others note, I can also no longer add any new bookmarks to my now empty bookmarks tab. My profile has not changed, so that's not the problem. This is really a pain.

Did you try to delete the file places.sqlite to make Firefox rebuild the places.sqlite database file from a JSON backup?
A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
