Backup not working in ver. 7.4.2.4

Hi,
I am using iTunes 7.4.2.4.
When I try to backup my library, it gets so far before telling me to insert a blank disk. I have a new blank disk in but iTunes wont recognize it. I have read a few related post which suggest that I use version 7.2. I dont have 7.2, I hve version 7.1.1 which while I used it, it backed up just fine. If I uninstall my current version from the control pannel, will I lose my purchased music? I have had hard disks go bad on my PC twice in the past and lost $1500+ of music, which i payed for again. I do not want to pay for this music a 3rd time so any help is really appreciated.
Thanks

Had exactly the same problem (with 7.4) and so reverted to 7.3. This solved the multiple DVD burning problem. However, as you have found, the library under 7.4 is not backwards compatable. What I did was to go into the iTunes folder in My Music folder, and threw out the "iTunes Library.itl" file and the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file. Do not throw out the "iTunes Music" folder. iTUnes will create new library files on launching. After re-launching iTunes, just use "add folder to library" to add all of your iTunes music back into the library(just select iTunes music folder and everything will be added). Note, however, that playlists and devises (at least Apple TV) will have to be re-added (at least in my experience). Other preferences and settings may also have to be reset. Good luck.

Why is Time machine backup not working after Mavericks upgrade?

I had the same problem due to the Fire Wire port.  Apple tested it told me it is OK!, I tried a new cable, and have tested both ports on my back up device.  I find it strange that as soon as I installed Mavericks.  The drive does work using USB.  It could be a coincidence, I don't absolutely know at this point, my back up drive ports could stop working, but I doubt it!

    HI Chris,
    Sharing files using Bluetooth
To share files using Bluetooth, you first need to make sure Bluetooth is turned on, and then use Bluetooth File Exchange to send a file.
    To turn on Bluetooth:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Bluetooth.
Select the On checkbox. To allow other Bluetooth enabled devices to “discover” your computer and send files, also select the Discoverable checkbox.
Select “Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar” so you can quickly send files and perform other actions using the Bluetooth status menu in the menu bar.
    To send files using Bluetooth:
Choose Send File from the Bluetooth status menu in the menu bar.
If the Bluetooth menu isn’t visible, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Bluetooth, and select “Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar.”
In the window that appears, select the file you want to send and click Send.
Select the device you want to send the file to and click Send.
If you don’t see the device you want to send the file to, make sure the device has Bluetooth turned on and is discoverable.
You do not need File Sharing turned on for Bluetooth technology.
Another way to share files between two Macs is How to use Firewire Target Disk Mode

  • Why does power nap time machine backup not work on my August 2012 macbook pro retina?

Hello. I got a MacBook Pro with retina display in August of this year 2012. I have done the SMC ? firmware update and I have 10.8.2 installed on my machine. Power nap still doesn't seem to work. I have the button in energy saver preferences and I have clicked it so it looks like power nap should work. When I am running Time Machine backup with the time capsule and I close the lid (plugged into power) it appears that no progress is made when I reopen the lid. I have closed the lid with activity monitor running and with network displayed. When I reopen the lid it may take up to one minutes to come out of sleep. When it does come out  of sleep I can see that there has been no network traffic.  Eventually, time machine backup resumes and I can see several megabytes per second. When I closed the lid overnight, just to make sure backup didn't restart after lid closing, I saw that no progress had been made in backup when I reopened the lid.
What options are left if I already have 10.8.2 and I have done the required firmware?  One person has mentioned a clean install but I really don't like to have to reenter all the different passwords and all the different preferences again unless that's absolutely necessary. Are there any other options left to try before a clean install?
One other bit of information.  I have filevault turned on; however, it looks like others have a working power nap even with file vault enabled.  If this is not an option, the power nap button should be grayed out when the machine is in filevault.
    Thank you for any help.

Yeah I still have the same problem BTW; it still does not work.
The second I open the lid and take it out of sleep mode, it starts to backup automagically, but when it's sleeping EVEN when it's connected to AC power, TM backups do NOT work to my OS X Server.
I don't understand what the problem is here.
I didn't before but I do have FileVault turned on now -- should that make a difference?
In either situation it didn't work, but now that I think about it, I could understand why it wouldn't backup while asleep.  Apparently the encrypted volume will stay encrypted during sleep and even at the lock screen; it's not until you open the lid and log in from the lock screen that it will unlock the encrypted boot volume.
But even still, I did *not* have FV turned on before, and this still did not work.
Is there some third party solution that can do what I want this to do?
    Here's my use case:
1.) I have a mac mini at home that I use when I'm at home; it runs OS X server.app (bought and paid for) and has TM server turned on.
2.) I have a laptop that I mainly use at work and I don't use at all when I come home (ie. when I'm ready to head home for the day I close the lid and don't open it until I'm back at work the next day, but the laptop does come home with me every day).
What I want to have happen is this:
1.) The minute my laptop enters my home wifi lan (even though it's still asleep with lid closed) I want it to automatically backup the boot drive.
I thought that's what Power Nap was supposed to do, but then I found out that in order for this to work, you have to be connected to AC power; so then I tried that -- ie. every day I come home, I put my laptop in a docking station that has AC power, but TM backups while lid closed / sleeping STILL do not occur!
Thanks for your help everyone...Looking forward to a solution that works.
    EDIT:
    I found this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4158709
"It looks like Power Nap doesn't perform Time Capsule backups when the MacBook Air screen is closed."
So apparently that is yet *another* requirement to get powernap working.  The lid can not be closed.
What is the difference between sleep with lid open and sleep with lid closed!?

  • New MacBook (Aluminum), new Time Capsule (Dual-Band), backups not working

My Mom got a new (refurbished) 13.3" MacBook (Aluminum) and new (not refurbished) Time Capsule 500 GB (Dual-Band.) The Time Capsule is working great for wireless internet and we can copy files to and from it, but Time Machine backups are not working. I enabled Time Machine, selected her TC, and then when it tries to backup it sits at the preparing stage for a little while and then gives a very unhelpful "the backup failed" message. Unfortunately I don't have the exact error message, but it never gets out of the preparing phase. It doesn't stay in preparing forever, it only stays there for a minute or so before it gives up and reports the backup failed message and stops. It's unclear to me, searching these forums, if this problem is the same as others are reporting.
I've tried turning off Time Machine and back on, removing and reselecting the Time Capsule, etc. Nothing makes a difference. There are no backup files on the TC - it's brand new.
This happened out of the box, but I also tried installing the latest Time Capsule firmware. It didn't help.

Apple needs to create a configuration tool that configures all the Apple devices one owns by creating a network diagram using drag and drop symbols...
Sounds like a cool suggestion. If you want Apple to hear it, go to www.apple.com/feedback/timecapsule.html

  • Monthly and Yearly backups not working for Protection Group?

    Hi
We have a Protection Group with 160 members currently attached to it. The group has the following customized Recovery Points:-
    - 1 recovery point every 1 day for the last 2 weeks, 1 recovery point every 1 month for the last 60 months and 1 recovery point every year for the last 5 years.
    The schedule is as follows:-
    - Every Day at 01:00, Every Month on First Day at 01:00 and Every 12 Months on 01 January at 01:00.
The daily tape backups are working fine without issue but neither the Monthly or Yearly backups are being attempted. We have checked the monthly backups for this issue for the last few months and are unable to see any evidence of the Monthly schedule even
running? This means that we are having to manually label the Daily tapes once a month as Monthly tapes but they will then stay on the Reports for the next 5 years as DPM will constantly request these tapes back.
Are you able to help with this matter?
Not that we really want to do this but if we removed the group completely and re-create it would this cause problems with our restore points?

    Hi,
This is a known issue that can occur in all current versions of
DPM including DPM 2012, to correct the condition, you simply need to perform this step. Any time before the next scheduled (monthly or longer) backup, manually update
the long term backup schedule by hitting the MODIFY button.  The code that runs when modifying the backup schedule redoes the bacup schedules and it fixes the scheduling issue.
Below is a DPM Power-shell script that will show you the scheduled backups for all recovery goals for all protection groups.  You can see the last time each recovery goal ran, and the NEXT run time, so you can monitor
the goals and re-fix them if necessary.
NOTE: It takes about 20-30 minutes before the fixed next run time schedule will be populated after modify the protection group and updating the schedule.
    # This script will list all currently scheduled backup to tape jobs #
    # It will list scheduled, last run and next run dates #
    # Note: The script takes in consideration that the DPM Database was installed locally on its #
    # Default instance. If SQL is installed on a different location/instance, edit the line #
    # that starts with $instance = '.\msdpm2010 #

I cant seem to get this script to run.. can someone point out what might be missing..
I've tried creating a shortcut like the following as well:
    Target: C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe -noexit -File "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
    DPM\DPM\bin\dpmcliinitscript.ps1" "C:\Data\scripts\scheduledjobs.ps1"
    Start in: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft DPM\DPM\bin\"
If i run as admin in just takes you to a command line prompt in PS..
Any thoughts on what is missing here.. i've modified the ps1 to reflect 2012 in my case.. 2012 R2
    DPM
    Tech, the Universe, Everything: http://tech-stew.com
Ok, the 1.6 script works.. but only if i run it from the ps1 script file.. by right clicking it and doing the Run with Powershell option (non admin).. my shortcut doesnt work.. same issue.. it just goes to a power shell prompt.  The right click and
run is non admin mode as well.
When I run it with the right click it shows no jobs scheduled.. If i look in dpm 2012 r2 i see a yearly tape backup scheduled for today.. the script doesnt show me a way to also get the monthly to appear (i've set the monthly for a day later but it doesnt
appear in the scheduled tasks for next 7 days).. i was under the impression this script would help force the monthly to appear/run.. but even the yearly that does show in DPM scheduled tasks isnt showing up with the script (maybe admin issue?)

  • Itunes 11 backup - not working

    Hi everybody
Before updating an ipad app I'm trying to backup data to my macbook using itunes. (this is what the app developer recommends for this particular update)
But the backup is not working and I don't what is happening.
I am running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and itunes 11 on my macbook.
According to Apple support, I should be able to do this in iTunes 11:
Transfer files from your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad to your computer
Connect your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad to your computer and select your device.
                               Click Apps.
Below File Sharing, from the list on the left, select the app on your device that you want to transfer a file from.
From the list on the right, select the file you want to transfer, and click “Save to.”
In the window that appears, select the destination where you want to save the file, and click Open.
The file is saved to the selected destination on your computer.
I have followed all these steps, however nothing seems to happen when i click Open.
If I browse to the folder/destination that I had selected when I clicked Open, it is completely empty.
In this case I had created a folder on my desktop to save the backup to.
Can anyone offer me any suggestions?
FWIW I am trying to save .fdb files - which I am unfamiliar with.
    Thanks.

Hey guys, I had the same problem. I checked all three options:
1/ Crossfade kept it at 10 as 12 wouldnt work)
    2/ Sound enhancer
    3/ Sound check
Then I relaunched itunes and it now works. Hopefully it keeps working, and haopefully this helps you guys out also !

  • ICloud backup not working

I ran the backup last night...it still shows that the latest backup was in December 2012.  I have enough storage left.  Any ideas?

If you get the error "Backup not successful" and you've tried deleting the last backup and trying to back up manually without luck, try the following test:   Go to...
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap your device name in the Backups section, then look under Backup options.  Turn off all apps from backup and then do a manual backup.  If that doesn't work, then this post will not help.  If the backup works, then go back to the app list and turn some on and try another backup.  If successful, keep repeating these steps.  If it fails at some point, then try to zero in on the one app that seems to make the backup fail.  (I had this problem and found one app failing, probably due to a corrupt data file.)
This process will take time, but if a backup works with no app data being used but clearly fails with the original settings, then somewhere in the mix of apps is a "bad" one.

  • Incremental Backups Not Working - DPM 2012 R2

    Hi
Having a strange issue where incremental backups in some situations are not working, however the daily full backup is succeeding.
This doesn't seem to be a SQL instance issue, in that within the same protection group, on the same sql instance, the incremental backups are working on other databases.
All of the databases are set to full recovery model, and I'm not seeing any failed jobs (although when I check the jobs, the only scheduled job is the full backup, none for the incremental backups are listed (which isn't the case for the databases that are
    incrementally backing up).
    What am I doing wrong?

    Hi,
I recommend the following to start troubleshooting for one of the problem databases that incremental backups seem to not take place on. Carry out the below.
From DPM console select the protection tab navigate to one of the problem SQL DBs.
Select Recovery Point from the top ribbon.
Within the Create recovery point Window if you identify that the second radio button (figure 1 is greyed out) DPM thinks the SQL DB in question is in a recovery model of simple.
Ensure the SQLDBs in question are set to a recovery model of Full or Bulk-logged.
Select the protection tab navigate to Protection Group with the problem SQLDB select Modify Protection Group. From the select group member’s page select the Server in question and then select Refresh button step through the rest of the wizard and select
    update group at the end.
Note if you do not see the refresh button just walk thought the rest of the modify protection group wizard and select update group at the end.

  • New Computer--Backup not working well (Help!)

    Hi All,
Have my CDs for the backup of my iTunes Library and Playlists. It is not copying over my playlists. The files are being sent to my C Driver, but the playlists are not there. Is that normal?
I also do not see all my apps on the new itunes.
    Help!
    Thanks

In my opinion, the itunes backup to CD/DVD is very poor. Plus, if you take the trouble to test it and try to restore before you actually need to restore, you might find that the restore does not work.
My advice is to buy an external hard drive and use that for backups.
Assuming you have the default iTunes setup, all you need to do to backup is copy the iTunes folderand all its subfolders to the exHD.
This will copy the itunesLibrary.itl file (database with play lists, ratings, playcounts), the Mobile Applications and Artwork folder, and all your artist/albums.
If you have a special iTunes setup, then you need to figure out yourself what folders you need to back up.

    Hi,
yesterday I've upgraded to iOS8. After three tries it worked.
But now I'm not able to restore my iPhone5 from Backup. It starts restoring. But the when it's done I've receive the error message without an error nr.
"itunes could not restore the iphone because an error occurred"
    Thats it
I've rewetted the iphone, tried on another computer to restore the backup, tried a different internet connection. Nothing. Everywhere the same issue. I've also tried to use a half year old backup just for fun. But the same issue.
I've disconnected other USB devices. No chance
Does anybody has a useful idea?
    Thanks.
