Backup of downloadable content

Hello,
I made an in-app purchase which unlocks another episode of a game. However, the game downloads some extra stuff for this episode.
The downloadable content is shown as "Documents & Data", but iTunes/iCloud will not make a backup of it.
Because I'm computer savvy it's not a problem to make an intercepting proxy and make a backup by capturing the communication, but I believe there is a better way to do it.
iPad mini 2; iOS 8.1.1 (12B435)
Capacity: 12 GB
Available: 3.4 GB
App: Back to the Future: The Game (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/back-to-the-future-ep-1-hd/id419176153)
Documents & Data of this app: 166 MB
Backed by iTunes (whole iPad): 103 MB
Backed by iCloud (whole iPad): 110.7 MB
Backed by iCloud (just the game): 2.0 KB

I am surprised CCC is not working.. where are you backing up to?? If you try to use a USB drive plugged into the TC that is really poor.. you should backup to a USB drive plugged into one of the computers running ethernet to the TC. The reason is that all files must be copied to the computer and if you store the backup on the TC USB drive then you have to send it over the network back to the TC again.. that makes the backup slow. The job should also be timed for when people are not modifying files.
Just to also note.. you are using the TC as a NAS.. it is clearly NOT a NAS.. for a business.. go and buy a real NAS.. one that has RAID protection and built in backup. Synology is popular and known to work well with the Mac.. You simply plug it into the TC.. that gives wireless access. and then keep the TC for doing what it does well.. TM backups and use the proper NAS for what it is designed to do.. file serving.

I am trying to store music for two different iPods on the same Windows 8 computer, and when I try and download content from the Cloud I get an error message. Is it possible to have two different Apple IDs on the same computer?

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value).  You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads
Content imported from your CDs will have to imported again
The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these).  Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above.  As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library.

  • App update rejected because it is downloading content?

    Hello,
I have a strange situation with the app store approval process. I have 2 apps which I am updating one of them is simply a lite version of the former. The lite and full version share 99% of the same code the only difference is that the lite version has levels removed. The lite version was approved by the store. The full version was not. I was given this reason:
    Jan 16, 2012 03:01 PM. From Apple.
    2.23
We found that your app does not follow the iOS Data Storage Guidelines, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines.
In particular, we found that the app downloads content and is storing too much data in the incorrect location.
The iOS Data Storage Guidelines specify:
"1. Only documents and other data that is user-generated, or that cannot otherwise be recreated by your application, should be stored in the /Documents directory and will be automatically backed up by iCloud.
    2. Data that can be downloaded again or regenerated should be stored in the /Library/Caches directory. Examples of files you should put in the Caches directory include database cache files and downloadable content, such as that used by magazine, newspaper, and map applications.
    3. Data that is used only temporarily should be stored in the /tmp directory. Although these files are not backed up to iCloud, remember to delete those files when you are done with them so that they do not continue to consume space on the user’s device.
    4. Use the "do not back up" attribute for specifying files that should remain on device, even in low storage situations. Use this attribute with data that can be recreated but needs to persist even in low storage situations for proper functioning of your app or because customers expect it to be available during offline use. This attribute works on marked files regardless of what directory they are in, including the Documents directory. These files will not be purged and will not be included in the user's iCloud or iTunes backup. Because these files do use on-device storage space, your app is responsible for monitoring and purging these files periodically."
For example, only content that the user creates using your app, e.g., documents, new files, edits, etc., may be stored in the/Documents directory - and backed up by iCloud.
Temporary files used by your app should only be stored in the /tmp directory; please remember to delete the files stored in this location when the user exits the app.
Data that can be recreated but must persist for proper functioning of your app - or because customers expect it to be available for offline use - should be marked with the "do not back up" attribute. For more information, please see Technical Q&A 1719: How do I prevent files from being backed up to iCloud and iTunes?.
It would be appropriate to revise your app to meet the requirements of the iOS Data Storage Guidelines.
For discrete code-level questions, you may wish to consult with Apple Developer Technical Support. Please be sure to include any symbolicated crash logs, screenshots, or steps to reproduce the issues when you submit your request. For information on how to symbolicate and read a crash log, please see Tech Note TN2151 Understanding and Analyzing iPhone OS Application Crash Reports.
I am using air 3.1 in both the lite and full versions. Neither version downloads anything nor does it create any files anywhere. The previous version was compiled with air 3.0 and there were no problems. Has something changed since version 3.0 that could be causing this situation I have?
I've deleted and reinstalled the full version of the program on my iPod Touch while my internet was deactivated and it worked perfectly (downloading what??).

Hmm.. When I asked the review team where the file was located they went ahead and aproved my app revision. I think the trigger must have been the local shared object. I modified my code as Saumitra suggested in his blog. Hopefully this won't be an issue the next update
    Thanks -Scott

  • I lost itunes on my computer and lost downloaded content that I payed for. How do I get it back?

I lost itunes on my computer and lost downloaded content that I payed for. How do I get it back?

When you say that you lost iTunes do you just mean the program or your content ? Have you checked to see if the content is still on your computer but not in iTunes ?
If not then do you not have a backup of your purchases on, for example, external drives or CDs or DVDs ? If you have then you can copy that onto your computer and add it back into iTunes. If you havn't then if they are still available in the iTunes store (and content is occasionally removed so you should make/maintain your own backups and not rely on re-downloading) and if you use the same iTunes account as you originally used to purchase them, then you should be able to re-download apps and ibooks, and if you are in the US music and TV shows, for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 . If you are not in the US and you want to re-download music or tv shows then you can try contacting Apple and asking for a re-download, but they are under no obligation to let you : http://www.apple.com/uk/support/itunes/contact/

That means you have a case-sensitive startup volume.
You should be able to use either "Carbon Copy Cloner" or "SuperDuper" (free for this purpose) to copy your case-sensitive volume to an empty case-insensitive one. Make at least two such copies on different drives. One is not enough to be safe.
Note: If there are any name conflicts — that is, files in the same folder with names that differ only in case, such as "File" and "file" — then you will either get an error or one of the files won't be copied. You must ensure either that no such conflicts exist, or that the consequences are not important. How you do that is up to you. Unless you went out of your way to create such conflicts, they probably don't exist.
Then erase the source volume in Disk Utility as case-insensitive. This action will wipe all data from the volume.
Restore from one of your backups using the same application you used to create it, or use the "Restore" feature of Disk Utility, which will be faster. Search its built-in help for the term "duplicate" if you need instructions.

  • HT4993 i bought 20gb of storage but i can get my backup to download on it. my internal storage is full .

i bought 20gb of storage but i can get my backup to download on it. my internal storage is full
also how do a change the apple id on the phone

Storage in iCloud does not make more memory available on the phone; it just increases your backup capability. The phone has a fixed, hardware limited amount of storage. If yours is full you will have to delete some content.
There are several places your Apple ID is used on the phone. For purchases go to Settings/iTunes & App Stores, log out, then log in with the new Apple ID. Note that any purchases made with the old Apple ID wil still need the password for that ID to update.
    For iMessage go to Settings/Messages.
    For iCloud go to Settings/iCloud.

  • How do I keep my downloaded content on my iPhone 4 when connectng to iTunes? It says erase and sync. I want to keep what I have downloaded, and manually manage contend on iTunes. Can I do this without it saying erase and sync?

How do I keep my downloaded content on my iPhone 4 when connectng to iTunes? It says erase and sync. I want to keep what I have downloaded, and manually manage contend on iTunes. Can I do this without it saying erase and sync?

No backup? Never a good idea to not maintain a backup of your important data. If you do not have a backup, follow these instructions:
By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you formatted your computer, your phone, will see your computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected under preferences in itunes(under the edit menu).
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in whatever supported applications you use for contact & calendar syncing. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect your phone, itunes running, do not sync at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
That's as good as it gets without a backup of your itunes library and other important data..

  • Download content locally when needed by running task sequence functionality with Windows PE.

I am trying to understand what happens when the "Download content locally when needed by running task sequence" option in chosen on a task sequence deployment. My assumption is that any needed packages would not be identified
and downloaded until task sequence is kicked off.
Using task sequence boot media, it looks likes a package has been obtained before any task sequence has been selected. I am assuming the package was acquired during the WinPE boot process. Can anyone confirm that this is
the correct behavior when using the "Download content locally when needed by running task sequence" option? If not, how would WinPE be obtaining the PS100292 SCCM package?
This specific package contains and HTA file. Only one of  several task sequences deployed to the All Unknown Computers make a call to the HTA file. The one that does, the HTA call is the very first step of the task sequence.

Hi everyone! I figured what was going on here. I was using an ESX VM and the package was stored on the c:\ from previous attempts and troubleshooting. Long story short, I had to rip the HDD from the VM and add a new one to set every thing back.

  • HT4191 I want to recover or transfer my recent backups (previous downloads) to my iPad am running iOS6 from iOS 5.1.1...HELP?

I had to bring my iPad 2 to an Apple Reseller here in the Philippines and they said I cannot go back to iOS 5.1.1 (OH WELL!!) so am stuck with iOS 6.0 (FINE!)
NOW that problem is.. I've downloads (MOSTLY GAMES) from iTunes Store.. and followed where iTunes is taking them (DOWNLOAD FOLDER) and made a backup.. And now this... error messages from iTunes that I have to Update my iTunes to latest version and yes I DID and STILL same error.. I called the Apple Reseller and instructed me to re-install iTunes...

Crossing my fingers that all should work this time FRESH INSTALL.. but..NO. the apps are still in my iPad 2 BUT None (ZILCH) on my iTunes (which is common)
What's so funny was that... I want to recover or transfer my recent backups (previous downloads) to my iPad am running iOS6 from iOS 5.1.1...HELP? I tried to copy frommy backup folder to iTunes folder nothing works.. now now it keeps on Downloading the same stuff.. which i repeatedly deleted.. (ARRGH!!)

Downgrading of any version of iOS isn't supported by Apple. If you search the web, you'll find instructions that may work, but you're on your own should any problems arise. For many people it goes without problems, but for some it's reportedly bricked their devices.
iOS 6 works fine on my iPads, though Maps is definitely a work in progress. There are a number of alternative maps apps, or you can just save Google's mobile maps web page to your home screen. For performance or stability problems with iOS, try doing a Restore of your iPad. That fixes for many people a number of problems that upgrading over an existing version of iOS sometimes seems to trigger.
You're not talking with Apple when you post here, by the way.
    Regards.

  • When downloading content in Premiere Elements 11, I get an error "no Internet Connection"

When I try to download content (themes, etc) in Premiere Elements 11, I get the message that there is no internet connection. I am connected via LAN and have no other issues connecting.
"Download failed. Either the server is currently unavailable, or your computer is disconnected from the Internet. Check your connection and try again."
I have tried on multiple occasions. I have changed my default browser. I have tried different content (themes, titles, etc) and I have tried to download all or only one item at a time.

SG has given you for details for Premiere Elements 12 when you have Premiere Elements 11.
In Premiere Elements 11 Expert workspace, go to Help Menu/Deactivate. If you see a viable "Deactivate" (which it looks like you have), your program should be activated. In Premiere Elements 12, Adobe has Help Menu/Sign Out as the equivalent of the version 11 Help Menu/Deactivate.
Typically the Content Download depends on Internet connection and Adobe Server. And, the process is for many of us slow. I would give the process another try at another time of the day.
    http://atr935.blogspot.com/2013/05/pe11-no-content-disc-content-downloads.html
Have you tried the process with the antivirus program and firewalls disabled?
Please try again with the antivirus and firewalls disabled and then we all can think about what next.
    Thanks.

Add On...If you have not done so already, please right click the desktop icon for your Premiere Elements 11 and select Run As Administrator even when you are running from a User Account with Administrative Privileges.
In my comments, I have assumed that you are running Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit. Is that the case?

  • If I change the nation setting of my iTunes in order to buy a song from the American iTunes store, then change my setting back to the Korean store (where you cannot buy music) will that create any problems with my downloaded content?

If I change the nation setting of my iTunes in order to buy a song from the American iTunes store, then change my setting back to the Korean store (where you cannot buy music) will that create any problems with my downloaded content? I want to buy an album that I cannot get hold of in Korea, but it is available in the US iTunes store. However since most of my apps are downloaded from the Korean store I'll need to switch back in order to update them. Does anyone know if there are any issues in doing this. I'd rather find out before I spend money, change my store setting back to Korea, and then get told I can't listen to the music because I bought it from the US store and my iTunes is set to the Korean store.
    Cheers.

You canot easily change your country settings.  The iTunes Store in a country is intended only for use by that country's residents, and only while they are in the country. To use the iTunes Store in a country you need a credit card (or other card type if acceptable in a country) issued in that country, billed to an address in that country, and also be physically present in that country when using the store.  You are also restricted to waiting 90 days between country changes.
E.g., "The iTunes Service is available to you only in the United States, its territories, and possessions. You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes Service from outside these locations. Apple may use technologies to verify your compliance." - http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE
