Backup of Essbase using 2nd Instance

Hi,
Can i use 2nd instance of essbase (after installing essbase on another port on same server or another server) to copy application from sourcr to target and use it as a backup.
What are the compromise i am making over general backup process.
Any advantage with this or all disadvantage.
Regards
Kumar N

Organize the backup server as a copy of the source server with all the applications, databases and the remaining directories required for the operations on the server.
Sync the entire file system of app directory b/w source and backup server using any backup techniques full/incremental
sync the essbase.sec and essbase.bak files b/w both the servers.
This file system sync should be done after both the services are stopped.
Once both the servers are sync.
Start both the servers and cross check the applications and data.
If ant thing happened to the production server, just you need to make the services up and you can use the back up server for the business.
You have to do the necessary configurations like interface with upstream and down stream system.
Once the production issues are fixed, you can fall back to production.
Note: It is good if you do quarterly health checkup of the backup server even though no issues in the production. Then we will not face any unexpected issues in bringing up the back up server.

  • Report does not work in 2nd instance after transported

My SAP Script report does not come out correctly after its transport into a 2nd instance.  The fonts displayed in the report don't look the same like what we have in instance #1.
The report originally created in the instance #1 is good, but after the transport, the fonts in instance #2 are larger and some of the contents are not properly aligned.  Some part of the boxes are also missing.  I would appreciate any suggestions of how to fix them.  Thanks, Sam

    Hi,
There might be a possiblity that the necessary style used in the SapScript is not transported to the New Instance and hence the Cosmetic issues...
Check whether all the associated objects like Style are transported to nre Instance or not?

  • User authentication not done in OAM for 2nd instance users

    Hi,
I have installed oracle access manager using sunone directory server. I have created one more instance of that directory server and added the directory profile in OAM for that instance... but the users in the 2nd instance are not able to login into the OAM console...pls.. help me in resolving this....

    Hi,
The question needs a little more clarification. Specifically, is the OAM console (and are you talking about the access system or the identity system?) protected by an OAM webgate? Or are you using the default identity system authentication? If webgate is in the picture, I suspect something in the authentication schemes needs to be corrected (and you should find more clues by lowering the webgate diagnostic logging threshold). If not, there is an additional instance drop-down box which appears on the login page and you need to select the correct instance in that box before logging in.
A couple of other questions -
    1) Are the users in the two instances mutually exclusive?
    2) Which components can use the new directory server instance?

  • Starting OEM DBconsole of 2nd Instance

    Hello,
we have 2 instances of oracle 10g on solaris. I was able to start ( after the rebooting the whole server) one instance of OEM db console. How can I start the OEM db console of 2nd instance. when I give emctl status dbconsole or emctl start dbconsole it start the OEM of the 1st instance only.
    Thanks

somewhere in between the lines it shows
1st instance name = 2nd instance nameNot sure what that means, but be sure you use ORACLE_SID in uppercase, e.g.
    $ ORACLE_SID=<your SID>; export ORACLE_SID

  • RAC hangs when starting or stopping 2nd instance of 2 node RAC

Has anyone seen the problem with all transactions and/or logins hanging when starting or stopping the 2nd node of a 2 node RAC database. When I shut down the 2nd instance using srvctl I occasionally get errors and long delays connecting. On our larger database with instances having a very large SGAs, trying to connect you sometimes get ORA-12537 or ORA-01033. Users experience a very long hang before getting the errors. These instances have very large SGAs of about 30GB on each node.
In the log of the first instance we see messages like the following for quite a while.

    Thanks in advance.

I have tested with only one node and starting and stopping is much faster without any cache fusion traffic. The application is not RAC aware, it was written without regard for RAC. As you say there may be some accessing of the same block by all nodes causing RAC to remaster blocks when a node is shut down.
My concern is the length of time users are afftected when I am starting a node that has been offline for a while. With the large SGA I have, it appears users are affected adversely for several minutes, in affect causing an outage which we are trying to avoid by using RAC.

  • Cpu high while installing delegated admin 2nd instance.

    Hi,
I am using Sun JES 2005Q1 on Solaris9 sparc platform.
AM, Delegated Admin & MEM are running on 1 host which is working perfectly.
I have installed another instance of AM on another host which is also working perfect.
Whenever I try to install 2nd instance of Delegated Admin, the cpu utilization of my ldap server goes very high (98%) and installation doesnt proceed.
I have increased the nsslapd-allidthreshold value from 4000 to 15000.
Also indexing of attributes are already done.
But still no luck for me.
I am getting error logs on ldap server "search is not indexed".
Can anyone help me out ?

The access manager has the same "oversight" but it was easy enough to fix by adding WS_ADMINHOST=admin.dom.tld to the amsamplesilent, and sed -i 's/--host=$WS_HOST/--host=$WS_ADMINHOST/g' to amws70config and amconfigupdate, and things actually worked when I did this (with a little more hackery, like manually editing mime.types and server.policy). This DA configurator is less straight forward, and when I fixed up the files and reran the failed scripts, things didn't work.
Does it make sense to run the administration server in its own zone/machine from an architectural standpoint? There has to be at least one admin server, so is the point AM/DA makes "it may as well be running on the node that _requires_ it to be running" versus "separate services into logical partitions?" It seems to me the first option is "good enough" while the second makes sense, but I'm looking for confirmation or further input.

  • Hot backups for essbase planning databases

    Hi gurus
Can please tell me best advice for making hot backups of our essbase planning databases for disaster recoveries?
We try doubletake but files are locked unless essbase is put in read-only mode.
Any good tools for this? Certified stuff? Heard maybe VBE?
    TIA
    M.

    Hi,
First of all have you read the document of backing up essbase :- http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/hfm_backup.pdf
If you are taking a backup while essbase is running then you will need to put the databases into read only mode, this can be done by using a maxl script and once again to take it out of read only mode.
There are lots of 3rd party applications out there for backing up file structures, it all depends on what you want it to do and how much you want to pay.
If it is a small installation you could even script it yourself depensing on your knowledge to back up files and copy them to a san or backup drive.
    Cheers

  • Attempting to create 2nd instance and links for Ingres to Oracle conversion

I have an oracle instance called ORCL that was set up with a DB link to the Ingres Database and it works. I want to create

That's was it !!!! I had forgotten that we needed to do this ...

Any idea of how to get my system in the VNODE field ? I can ping the box that I want to get to from the system.
I have the IP address .. where does this get set ? Every thing else seems to be good.

  • Ubuntu 10,10: 2nd instance of Firefox does not obey GTK2 customizations

    Hi
On Ubuntu 10.10 I started a 2nd instance of Firefox using the command:
    $ firefox -ProfileManager -no-remote &
Created a new profile and everything works smoothly except for the fact that this instance of FF does not obey by GTK2 customizations that I have placed in ~/.gtkrc-2.0
Moreover, only SOME of the customizations are not obeyed. For example, the vertical scrollbars are supposed to be on the left, but they are on the right. The scrollbar arrows are together (Mac-like) as specified, so is the scrollbar width.
The first instance obeys all customizations with scrollbars on the left. Any ideas?

  • Install 2nd instance of Arch Linux without internet connection

I have successfully install a first instance of Arch Linux using Arch Linux ISO + pacstrap + pacman with internet connection.
I have updated to latest package database list (/var/lib/pacman/sync) and package cache files (/var/cache/pacman/pkg) in first instance of Arch Linux with "pacman -Swyu".
Next, I would like to install 2nd instance of Arch Linux without using internet connection.
I share the "/var/lib/pacman/sync" and "/var/cache/pacman/pkg" via NFS from first Arch Linux instance.
I boot the 2nd instance with Arch Linux ISO and attempt to install without internet connection.  I mount the two NFS shares from 1st instance to "/var/cache/pacman/pkg" and "/mnt/var/lib/pacman/sync" respectively.  I execute
       # pacstrap -i -c /mnt"
    to start installation.
I found it is almost impossible with current implementation of pacstrap script.  The pacstrap script always attempt to update package database list with -Sy option.
I think some amendments on pacstrap script is needed to install Arch Linux without internet connection.

I made the edit by adding the option -o to do what you want.

  • TM backup: can I use two drives to back up data on two other drives?

    Hi to all!
    I have with me a 1 TB/ Thunderbolt EHD [external hard drive], a Lacie 2 TB/FW, EHD, a Seagate 2 TB/ 2 USB, EHD, a Seagate 3 TB/ 2 USB, EHD and [to be purchased] a Seagate 2 TB/ 2 USB, EHD.
I mainly use my Mac for making HD videos using FCPX.
I am planning to use these drives in the following manner as indicated by the table below:
    Drive:
    a
    1 TB,
    Thunderbolt,
    Buffalo
    b
    2 TB/ FW
    LaCie
    c

    Seagate
    d
    3 TB/ 2 usb

    USAGE:
    editing videos, one
    active project at a time
    mainly for camera
    archives, music files,
    FCP events, projects
    and exported movies
    same as the LaCie,
    as a backup of data
    intend to have 2
    partitions of 1.5 TB each;
    one partition for personal
    data and the other partition
to back up data on the
    Thunderbolt [current project]
    intend to use this for
    TM back up of my
    Mac's internal HD
    applications, documents etc.
    backed up by:
    one partition of 'd'
    by the 2 TB Seagate
    backup 'e'
I would like to know whether I could do these things:
Can I use the TM backup feature in this manner of using 2 separate drive/partition [e/d] to back up data on 2 other drives [f and a]?
Further, I am manually copying files from 'b' drive to 'c' drive; without incurring further expense, can I ensure that whatever I write onto the LaCie [b] gets copied to the 'c' drive automatically?
Any thoughts, suggestions and instructions in these matters are welcome.

    [planning to have
    only one active

    Same as the LaCie,
    as it's backup
    To be used as TM
    backup for my Mac's
    internal and also to
    the scratch disk.
    Planning to have it in
    2 partitions: to have
    a 'secondary' copy of
    my Mac's IHD on one
    partition and to have
    personal 'net retrievable'
    data on the other partition.
    'MY
    OBSERVATIONS'
    my projects are usually
    less than 10 minutes
    and hence I trust that
work would be fast and in
    case of drive failure, I
    would be losing only
    one project.
    I am importing camera footage
    primarily into this drive and
    being FW, data transfer is
    fast.
    Am manually copying
    files from the LaCie
    onto this.
    This drive is not a
    brand new one, but
    has been given to me
    by the company's
    agent as a replacement
to my earlier 2 TB drive
    which had failed.Hope
    this also will not fail!
    Because of the 'uncertain'
    performance of the
    3 TB Seagate, I intend
to have a copy of my
    Mac's IHD in one
partition. I intend to place only
    such data upon the other
partition that I will not be
    greatly affected should the
    drive fail.
If you can analyse this plan and give your insight upon this matter, I will be immensely happy.
Further, if this proposed use of the 3 TB Seagate is okay with you, I need to know how to remove the Thunderbolt from doing it's temporary role of TM backup and how to coronate the 3TB Seagate as its successor.
FYI, I would be switching off TM from functioning whenever I am editing video; I would be switching it on only after a full editing session.
Another question on my mind is this: do I need to partition the drive 'e' at all?

How can I restore my data from iCal? I didn't make any backup, but I use  time machine with an external HD. I deleted iCal when I deleted my gmail account. I have tried to restore, but I can only restore the iCal software and not the data.

    So what is your question?
If you forgot your encryption password:
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.

  • How to use multiple instances of the same dll ?

    Hi,
I'd like to use multiple instances of a jni dll . I have created
different threads, in each thread, I have called System.loadLibrary(..),
and I would like each thread to access a different instance of this
    library.
Unfortunately, the loadLibrary function is effective only once so I
can not find the way to do this.
Can anyone help me on this ?
    Thanks.
    Francois.

    Hi, :)
and I would like each thread to access a different
instance of this library. In Win32, this is outright impossible. A DLL will only exist once in a process space.
In Unix, or at least in Solaris, I think this is also not possible, as libraries are loaded by the dynamic linker, and it keeps tabs of which modules have already been loaded into the process space.
I'm assuming your problem is that your native library has non-reentrant code.
If so, there are two approaches you can take to this:
    1) If you have access to the source code for the native library, change it so that it is reentrant.
    2) If you do not, change your Java code so that access to the native code is made from whithin synchronize blocks.
If your problem is of a different nature, I'll second the words of the previous poster and ask you what it is...
    Cheers,
    J.

  • If Iq backup my iPhone using my icloud can someone else using the same Apple ID as me back up their iPhone to icloud?

If Iq backup my iPhone using my icloud can someone else using the same Apple ID as me back up their iPhone to icloud?

If they sign into your iCloud account with your ID, their iCloud backup would then be in your account.   However, they would also be sharing your iCloud account and any data they sync with the account (contacts, calendars, etc.) will be merged with yours and the merged list will appear on both phones.  They would also be able to access your email account and their photo stream photos would be merged with yours (as you would be sharing the same photo stream).  Furthermore, if they are using iOS 7 and turn on Find My iPhone while signed into your account, their phone will require your iCloud ID and password in order to be turn off Find My iPhone, sign out of iCloud or erase and reactivate their phone.
Unless you wish to share all this data, and have the other person's data merged with yours you should do this.  (iCloud accounts are really designed to be used by a single person.)
