Backup of slideshow

How do I backup a slideshow to DVD in full format? I have created a slide show using photos from a Canon Rebel XT camera for which the format is 2304x3456 pixels, but Export only allows movies to be made at 640x480 maximum resolution, and iDVD is not much different. I could simply write all the albums with the photos I used in the slide show to a jpeg file but that loses the Ken Burns effect I have set up for some of the slides (not all) and the settings for duration, which are not all the same.

You're exactly right, sorry, I assumed you meant to use iDVD and I shouldn't have.
If you want to back up this slideshow you're options are two:
1. Export it as a movie of some sort - there is no way to export a Slideshow. Again I suggest you investigate those apps mentioned above for a better range of export options.
2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder - though can delete any pics not in the slideshow. But this way the Slideshow will only be playable on a Mac with v7 of iPhoto installed

  • Not able to see project (slideshow) in Organizer

I got the Blue Screen of Death while working on a slideshow in PSE 7. When I restarted, the project was corrupted and I could not get back into it. Fortunately, I had backed up just a couple days prior using PSE 7. I did a restore, and all my projects show in the Organizer except the one that I was working on.
I can see the .psess file in c:\Program Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs\My Catalog7\projects. Is there any way to salvage my project? I've put so many hours into it, and thought I was covered by the backup in PSE 7.
If the project can't be salvaged, what are the files that need to be manually backed up for a slideshow... so I can prevent this from happening again in the future?
    Thanks

All the rest of the slides were black "empty".
Most likely, this is because the .psess contains references to images that don't exist in the current catalog.  A .psess file references images by their internal catalog IDs, not filename.  Perhaps the .psess was created or modified after the version of the catalog that you restored from backup, and the IDs of some of the images referenced by the .psess don't exist in the catalog.
If I wanted to backup the slideshow manually, is the .psess file the only one that is needed to re-create the slideshow?
No, you need the .psess file, the catalog folder (which happens to contain the .psess files), and all the actual images referenced by the slide show.  In other words, you pretty much need a full catalog backup.  It doesn't have to be a backup made by PSE -- it could be a backup made by a general-purpose backup program.

  • Why can't I see a slideshow in a Time machine backup ?

I have created a slideshow which works fine, and shortly afterwards did a weekly backup using Time Machine.
I then made a small change to the slide show that changed the order (or rather the arrangement) of the pictures in the Sliding Panels themed slideshow. (annoyingly the change happened by simply un-ticking the 'show title slide' setting in slideshow settings). I want to return to the picture/panel arrangement that was in the original version, which happens to be better (I assume the selection is purely random) but when I look at the Backup in Time Machine I cannot see my slideshow, or any slideshow for that matter. So I have two questions:
    1) Does Time Machine backup slideshows ?
    2) If 'yes' how do I see them / restore them ?
(I have iphoto version 8.1.1 now, but this is because an automatic update has just kicked in. The slideshow was created using the previous version to this)
    Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can use TM to restore individual photos/album or events or the entire library. When you restore the entire library you will get all books, slideshows, calendars, etc. that were there when the backup was made. You can also select to keep your existing library (depending on space available) in case the recovered library doesn't have everything you need.

  • PE6-I restored my backup but now don't see photos/slideshows etc.

I use windows xp and I backed up one of my catalogues then deleted it from my computer.  I then restored it and was working on a slideshow just fine, THEN, when I later went in to work some more, my catalogue is empty!!!???  How do I get the photos and slideshow back.   What happened???  I think the pics and everything are still in my computer, but I don't know why they are not in my catalogue.
HELP I have to finish this slide show....
    Thank you!

I can't imagine why you would make a backup and then delete the original; nor does this count as a "backup" in any meaningful sense.
I then restored it and was working on a slideshow just fine,
Could you please state how you restored the catalog? Do you mean you restored the catalog file; or do you mean you restored the catalog and all photos? Still don't understand why you did this.

Don't you hate it when that happens?
Perhaps you opened a different (default?) catalog? Since you restored the catalog, you must know where the catalog file now resides. What happens if you look for this restored catalog file in Windows? Is it there? What happens if you double-click on it?

  • Can't Find Slideshows within Time Machine iPhoto Backup

I have spent quite a lot of time setting up a slideshow with Ken Burns effects and added music. Large slideshow with 367 photos, went to send it to iDVD and it doesn't work...can't export it as it seems it's too large but that is another story (I think a bug with iPhoto 09)...even after the update! Anyway...someone suggested splitting the slideshow up to export it to see if that worked. I did that and the two new parts of the slideshow no longer have the Ken Burns effect applied. My stupid fault, but I already deleted the photos that weren't required from the original slideshow and the Undo worked once but then greyed out. I'm guessing it must have saved in the middle...typical! So...having backed up with Time Machine the night before I plugged in the drive and navigated to iPhoto from yesterday. Photos all there but no Slideshow in the left hand pane. Maybe I'm missing something or does Time Machine not backup slideshows that have not been exported?
    Thanks

Solved, restored the iPhoto Library from the finder and it worked!

  • Backup a book in progress (or slideshow)

In iPhoto 6 is it possible to back up a book or slideshow that has been created? Apple support says no, you can only back up the photos themselves. Kindly reply to my e-mail: [email protected]

What? You can't back up a slideshow? That's ridiculous. I copied my iPhoto Library to another computer, and my books and slideshows were there when I opened iPhoto on the new mac. Now I have two copies of the whole thing.

When using the mini-dvi to video adapter to connect to my widescreen tv (via composite), to show iPhoto slideshows, the transistions between slides dont apear and there are no ken burns effects. The slideshow runs fine on my MacBook display (ie when not conected to the tv), and the is no other distortion or flickering (as reported in other threads), this seems odd to me or is it just a limitation of analogue output.
    2Ghz MacBook, White   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

It means that the issue resides in your existing Library.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Dragged folder to slideshow - folder disappeared

    Hi,
yesterday i tried to drag a folder with 7 albums and drop it on an empty slideshow, because i thought i can add the pictures this way. But unfortunately i did not work and the folder disappeared from view. I got no error or anything, but i cannot find it anywhere now.
I thought i might have dropped it on the trash, but i tried it with another folder and that leeds to a confirmation dialog.
I wonder if anybody else has experienced such a strange error. It's pretty ugly, because the folder with the albums was a selection of 255 picture out of 5000 for a little slideshow for the christmas event of my choir and now it seems i have to go through it again
When i'm back home, i'm going to try a library rebuild, seems that can sometimes solve strange issues, hope it helps here as well. Any other ideas, anyone?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. My first thought was the Trash bin scenario but evidently that wasn't it. Never hear of that before.
As a precaution against losing an album for any reason in the future again just assign the √ keyword to those photos in the album. Then it's easy to get them back in a single group.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Continuous play of different slideshows

I've created 3 slideshows for a graduation party. I want to play them on my IMac continuously. Is there a way to do that in IPhoto, combining all slideshows (I did read a previous post that suggested I create a playlist of my 3 songs and build the slides accordingly). Or do I burn a DVD and if so, how would I get it to play over and over or do I somehow burn the slideshow series onto the DVD to fill it up. Just don't know what's best.

    RudyRedBone:
Here's one thought on it. Burn it to iDVD and play in a DVD player thru a TV set for the party. IMO that would be much easier to control during the party.
Now here's how you can do that:
1 - export each of your photos as a Quicktime movie.
2 - use AddMovie or Quicktime Pro to join the movies together into one file.
3 - open iDVD and create a slideshow by clicking on the "+" button at the bottom.
4 - open the slideshow window by double clicking on the slideshow text button in the menu.
5 - drag your movie file into the slideshow window.
6 - click on the Map button and drag the slideshow into the blue left hand bin as seen on this screenshot.
7 - with the slideshow selected go to the Advanced menu and select Loop.
This will start the slideshow as soon as you insert it into the DVD player and will continuously look the movie.
Be sure to check the music of each of the three slideshows to make sure they encoded correctly before joining them together.
OR, you could build one slideshow, up to 99 slides, from the photos you used in the other movies and create the entire thing in iDVD as a regular slideshow. You can create a playlist to include all of the songs you want and follow steps 6 and 7 above to get it to auto play and loop. IMO the resulting image quality is better when creating the slideshow in iDVD from still photos.

  • Iphoto slideshow on tv

I'm trying to watch an iphoto slideshow on my tv. so I bought a "mini-dvi to video adapter" but when I connect it to my tv via the video connector (yellow) all I see is my wallpaper and nothing else, no mouse pointer movement, files opening or anything else, just my wallpaper, I can't see my iphoto slideshow either. any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

Try hooking up the MacBook to the TV with the MacBook off and then boot it up. Also with the TV connected to the MacBook go into the System Preferences/Monitors pane. There should be an option to set the monitor and TV. Don't remember exactly what it looks like as it only comes up if there's an external monitor or projector connected. There may be a setting that needs to be changed.

  • How can I rebuild my iphoto library from backup

Can I rebuild my iphoto library from the Time Machine backup?
Somehow the iPHoto libary structure(?), if that's the word, has gotten corrupted.
There phtos are still these, in their year/month/day folders, but though iPhoto
opens it does not show Events, Slideshow, etc.
I found a Support page  that tell you how to re-build the library, but
    it didn't work.
It just occurred to me that the Time Machine back up should contain the 'library'.
Is so, how do I access it and will it open the iPhoto library intact with Events, Slideshows,
    etc.?
    Thanks,
    Hal

You don't rebuild a library from a backup, you replace the library with the backup:
If you'll describe what happend when you tried rebuilding the library with iPhoto maybe we can offer another possible fix like try using iPLM as Larry suggested.

  • How to move iphoto albums or slideshows from one computer to another

I have iphoto running both on my desktop ('08 = 7.1.5) and on my laptop ('09 = 8.1.2). The libraries contain a lot of the same images but they are not identical (and I don't want them to be). I create albums or slideshows or books on each of my machines and would like to then transfer them to the other one for keeps - without replacing the albums etc. in that library. How do I do that?
Sorry if this is a dumb question that's been dealt with many times. I couldn't easily find an answer.

You can move albums and their photos between libraries but not books, slideshows, cards, etc. So you will have to recreate those items in the other library.
If you are able to get the library with the books, etc. up to speed as far as having all of the photos from the other library you can then copy that full library to the other computer so you will have the book and other keepsakes in both libraries.
I suggest to create a separate library for the book and copy it between Macs as needed. It will be small enough to make the copying process quicker. You can add additional photos to the book library as needed from either of your other libraries.
This tutorial may be of some help if you decide to go that route: Old Toad's Tutorial #9a - Archiving an iPhoto 7(08)/8(09) Book for Editing and/or Ordering at a Later Date.

  • IPhoto slideshow to DVD for TV and PC viewing

I am creating a slideshow that needs to be able to be played on a DVD with unknow TV and a PC with a projector. Will not know exactly which one. The slideshow is simple (200 images estimated), would like to have Ken Burns effect if possible.
I also have Keynote available if it would be a better appliciaont. What is the best workflow to produce a reliable, high quality product? Thanks in advance.
    Mark

The tip refers to the file "Library6.iPhoto" that is in the iPhoto Library folder. That's the file that often gets damaged or corrupted and makes iPhoto think there are no photos in the library or that the files are missing but the thumbnails are there. I just select it and type Command-D to make a copy of it which ends up as "Library6 copy 1.iPhoto". When I need to backup again I delete that file and make another copy of it.
For protection of HD problems and really losing your files I suggest an external Firewire HD. An 80G drive is not that expensive and can hold your iPhoto Library folder and, in general, your entire User folder. That folder contains all of your important, non-replaceable files. The system and applications can be replace
That being said DVDs can be used with iPhoto's Share->Burn Disk menu option to burn multiple rolls to disk in the iPhoto format. This will allow you to mount that disk in iPhoto like this to copy back those rolls into a new library is that were necessary. As you get a number of new rolls you can burn another disk. Or use a CD and burn fewer rolls as they are added. That preserves the keywords, albums they were in, comments, etc. You can also burn slideshows.
The external HD is the easiest and quickest way. By backing up the entire iPhoto Library folder (i.e. copying it to the external HD and then keeping it current with a backup program like Synk, you can avoid most any catastrophic crash on your HD. I don't have my external drive running all the time. I only turn it on and mount it when I have some backups to perform.

  • How to keep entire photo library on ext drive and only slideshows on laptop

I recently did an erase/install upgrade to Tiger on my g4 powerbook laptop. My previous iPhoto 4 library is safely backed up on an external drive. I would like to keep the entire library on that drive and import new photos only to that drive and edit on that drive. I would like to have a second iPhoto library on my laptop that only contains slideshows that I have created on the external drive. I received mixed opinions at the genius bar: One guy told me that I would end up with a big mess and another guy told me it would be straightforward and easy.
So this is what I think I need to do:
    1. Open iPhoto '08 on my powerbook (it wants to upgrade the library even though there is nothing currently in it. Is it OK to let it upgrade?)
    2. Open it again while holding alt/option and ask it to create a new iPhoto library on the external drive (should I name it something unique?).
    3. Drag my backed-up iPhoto library folder (its contents) into the new iPhoto library on the external drive (I imagine it will want to update them as well).
    4. When I want to move a slideshow over to my laptop, export a copy of the slideshow to a laptop desktop folder (so it sends copies only) and then move them into my laptop iPhoto library (I have no idea whether the slideshow order and settings would be preserved).
I hope my thinking is right and would appreciate any comments or suggestions?
I am concerned that when I connect my camera to my laptop, it will want to open the laptop iPhoto library and import there instead of to the external drive library. How do I get the pics from my camera to the external drive library?
    Again, thanks!

    rbfactor:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Regarding Step 3: do not import the old library into the new one. You'll get the modified files as regular files and lose your keywords, tiles, albums, slideshows, etc.
What I would do is put your full library on the external HD. Then create a new library on your PB. In the primary library create an album with the pictures you want for the sideshow. Then use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager tocopy that album from the external HD library to your PB library. Unfortunately you cannot copy over the slideshow settings or the music used. You'll have to have your iTunes library on the PB and set the slideshow settings once your have the photos on the PB.
The alternative is to export the slideshow as a QT file and copy that to the PB and run with QT player.
