Log file is at SP2-0640:.

Thanks,

Hi all,
I had the exact same problem
the backup menu item runs :
C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN\backup.bat
when you look at this batchfile you will see the following :
The script assumes that user can connect using "/ as sysdba"when you have OS authentication disabled the batchfile will give the formentioned error
turn OS authentication back on by changing C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN\sqlnet.ora
(you could turn it back off after your backup succeeded)

  • Why we cannot take hot backup if database is in noarchive log mode

    Hi,
    I am aware that if database is in noarchive log mode, we cannot take hot backups and only cold backup is possible.
    I would like to know the technical reason behind this restriction?
    Thank You
    Sarayu

    Hot backups are fuzzy backups, inconsistent, in other words, since something is always happening in the database.  When you recover, you restore data files and then apply redo to make the transactions consistent.  You can do a complete recovery or recover to a point in time.  So where does the redo come from?  That's what we call archiving redo logs.  When the online redo gets full, it gets archived.
    In the case of an instance crash, the redo is there in the online redo logs, so Oracle can recover automatically.  Anything beyond that, having to do with storage media, is a media recovery, and requires those archived logs.  So unless you have some other way to get your data back, always run in archivelog mode.
    It is really important to understand the concepts.  Please read the docs.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25789/cncptdba.htm#CNCPT031
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/rcmintro.htm#i1005488
    It may be worth your while to get a third party backup and recovery book too.

  • Error message: "Querying or saving changes to the database failed."

    Hi all,
    I can sense I'm becoming a regular on this particular forum - the problem of spending 8 hours a day trying to get this software working!
    _*The problem*_
    When i try and setup a new device, or modify an existing one, I get an error message when i get to the Transcode Settings page. The error message is "Querying or saving changes to the database failed." After this I get a blank screen and can no longer see my settings.
    No amount of restarting has fixed this. And I cannot see a way to create a device through the client software and add transcode settings.
    Help?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ben

    Ah very good!
    Ok - it seems then that this works absolutely fine as a work around. I can create a device and then assign the device to transcode settings through the client adminsitration panel (which is indeed what I meant).
    So, there is a work around. Far less pressing now, but I would like to know why I'm getting the error message all the same - I'm now concerned about the integrity of the database...
    Thanks Tony!

  • This procedure name is not found in the database: wwv_flow.show

    I created an interactive report, which works fine in the APEX developer, using the Application Express Authentication scheme.
    To add it to our Self-Service web system, I change the authentication scheme to a custom scheme that has been working fine for other applications, although I don't know of any other interactive reports using this scheme in Self-Service.
    Anyway, the interactive report is displayed in our Self-Service system using the custom authentication scheme, but if I display the Action menu and click on one of the options (Filter, Sort, Compute...), a pop-up window is displayed saying:
    This procedure name is not found in the database:
    wwv_flow.show
    That error is also displayed when I try to edit the displayed filters.
    Does anyone know why I might be getting that error or have suggestions on things to try to track it down?
    Thanks,
    Laura

    Laura,
    To add it to our Self-Service web systemWhat does that mean? What did it entail?
    I'm thinking maybe you embedded some relative links into a menu system in which the base href was not appropriate, ... or something.

  • Is the only way to import large amount of data and database objects into a primary database is to shutdown the standby, turn off archive log mode, do the import, then rebuild the standby?

    I have a primary database that need to import large amount of data and database objects. 1.) Do I shutdown the standby? 2.) Turn off archive log mode? 3.) Perform the import? 4.) Rebuild the standby? or is there a better way or best practice?

    Instead of rebuilding the (whole) standby, you take an incremental (from SCN) backup from the Primary and restore it on the Standby.  That way, if, for example
    a. Only two out of 12 tablespaces are affected by the import, the incremental backup would effectively be only the blocks changed in those two tablespaces (and some other changes in system and undo) {provided that there are no other changes in the other ten tablespaces}
    b. if the size of the import is only 15% of the database, the incremental backup to restore to the standby is small

    Hi,
    I am new to DBA activities.
    I am working on 11.2.0.1.0 version in Oracle.
    My database keeps on growing so as a security measure, I am asked to take backup of the databse periodically without shuttingdown this databse. Since this task has to be done periodically, I have to schedule the job for this task.? I know how to take export of the database.. but not sure about the periodical backups... Now sure how to proceed on the activity, so please guide me on the same.

    ThanksWhy you close the database while taking backups? Use RMAN and take online backups. Schedule it using either DB or scheduler
    Check http://tahiti.oracle.com for more information

  • Clone database with no archive log mode and downtime with new file structure

    We need to clone database with following business requirements :
    No downtime at all can be afford
    databases are in no archive log mode
    data-file locations need to be change to new mount points while cloning for space management factor
    Please suggest the best possible methods for same ?

    Can you post your version of oracle in 4 digits and OS for better understandig
    I dont think you can move the No Archive database to a new location without shutting down.
    You just want to move them to the new mount points is it?
    1. How big are your datafiles are?
    2.How do you backup this DB?
    When you move the datafilles then it becomes inconsistent and you need redo logs and probably archive logs to be there to make the file consistent or else it would be prompting for recovery. The chances are your redolog will be overwritten and hence you wont be able to recover.
    You need downtime.

  • Backup of the database

    Hi All,
    Please do let me know how can take the back up of the entire database with export and without export command.
    Thanks.

    how can take the back up of the entire database with export Be aware that export is not a real backup (backup is not its purpose), it is just an image at a point in time : if you "restore" your DB using import, then you'll loose all modifications made after it.

  • To open the database which is in recovery mode

    Hi Folks
    Could some one help me in opening a database which is in the recovery mode .
    I applied a wrong archive log and come out of it

    could some suggest me in solving this problem. alter database recover until cancel using backup controlfile

    alter database recover until cancel using backup controlfile

    Oracle doesn't allow you to "apply a wrong archive log".
    What commands did you execute to "apply" the archive log ? What messages did Oracle return ?
    You can either
    a. SHUTDOWN
    or
    b. ALTER DATABASE RECOVER CANCEL
    to stop it from recovering
    Then, (if you want to restart "recoveyr mode") issue
    a. STARTUP MOUNT
    b. ALTER DATABASE RECOVER UNTIL CANCEL USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE
    I presume that this is not a "Managed Standby" database but a manually scripted database ?

    Maybe the instance isn't in archivelog mode, often what one thinks and what one actually has are two different things. No worries, its not hard to figure out. Using sqlplus you can shut down the instance and get a cold (offline) backup. Its the easiest to use for restoring.
    sqlplus /nolog
    conn /as sysdba;
    select name from v$datafile;
    ... -- several .dbf files ...
    backup controlfile to trace ;
    ... -- this creates a trace file down quite a few folders under the diagnostic_dest
    show parameter diag
    ... --- the diagnostic_dest shows under "value"
    archive log list;
    ... ? log mode => Archive Mode ?
    shutdown immediate;
    exit
    And copy off those datafiles listed from the v$datafile list, cold backup is the best way to be really really sure you have a really really good backup. The rman utility is very nice ... and a bit complicated.
