Backup of ZCM 10.3.3 installation (wo db)

Hi!
ZCM 10.3.3, SLES 11 SP1. As I still have plans (despite tight time-line as school is on the way) to move from ZCM 10.3.3 to SLES 11.1 I wonder is there a option to keep backup of ZCM 10.3.3 installation? I mean, not a db backup, but installation of ZCM 10.3.3 on server. When something going wrong I can go back to old 10.3.3 installation. Or is only way to reinstall 10.3 (have media from April 2010) and then add all updates? In Windows, I presume, is only way to reinstall it, maybe in SLES this can be a different way - just to copy something back etc.
Well, yes, is a option to have all (SLES) system backup, but this is not I keep in mind right now.
More thanks, Alar.

Hi Alar,
Maybe by means of a server image or VM snapshot of your ZCM servers so you can roll back fully (server POV that is)?
The biggest issue there, I'd think, is that clients that have the agent updated to 11.x won't properly talk to the ZCM 10.3.x zone AFAIK. So while testing how the new/updated 11.1 setup works, maybe not update too many clients?
Cheers,
Willem

    Sankalp,
I too have the error 0x81000033 when running the full system image backup.  I could not assign a drive letter to my 100mb drive with the Disk Management.  So, I went into the diskpart and ran the following commands:
    diskpart
    list disk
    DISKPART> list par

    fsutil usn deletejournal /D q:
After diskpart, I opened the "My Computer" and see that I have 78.2 of 96.0MB free.  Despite that, I ran these commands on the new q: drive:
    C:\Windows\System32>q:

  • How do I retrieve bookmarks and passwords from a Windows backup, after OS re-install?I have a full Windows backup of my machine, pre re-installl

I had to reinstall Vista 7 OS. I have a full Windows backup of my machine, prior to the re-installation. How do I retrieve the bookmarks and passwords from the backup? I understand they're stored in various files a ".default" folder in C:\users\username\appdata\roaming\mozilla\firefox\profiles. When I try restoring the folder, the files get skipped... When I try browsing for the individual files, I don't see them!

Many thanks for your responses... After a little scouting on the web, I have found THE solution... This is all due to the way Windows 7 Backup works, and will NOT let restore apps...
("File restore in Windows7 is not designed to restore back applications. This is because the application state is spread across potentially multiple folders, files & registry. Windows7 file backup is not aware of where all the state is spread to be able to restore the entire application accurately as such information is internal to the application. Restoring application partially might corrupt the application and render the application unusable. So we do not allow restoring applications from file backup.
In case files under C:\Program Files etc. are chosen for restoring, we block restoring files from backup to such locations as it might cause the applications to not function.'')
What one has to do when restoring is to NOT attempt to restore to the original location, but to select the radio button which allows you to type a path where you want the files restored and type in the path of the original location!!! Then select copy and replace...A little quirky (and tedious), but it works!

  • Will my iPad's content be rejected for backup if I "downgrade" my iTunes installation?

I "upgraded" to 10.5 this morning and nothing I've tried (and I've been pretty industrious) can get iTUnes 10.5 to back up my iPad (running 4.3.5).
I'm thinking that perhaps the way to go is to uninstall 10.5 and reinstall something older, but I'm concerned that if I do that, the "new" installation will think my iPad was synced with another library and outright refuse to do a backup.
Has anyone else had experience successfully downgrading iTunes?

If I copy my current iTunes library to the new computer, what will happen when I plug my iPod in?
if you copy the iTunes folder from the old to the new Mac, your Touch will just continue to sync with iTunes as if nothing happened.
make sure you copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music or media folder).

  • Time machine backups have slowed considerably since my installation of Mavericks -- why?

Ever since installation of Mavericks, time machine backups have slowed to a crawl.  The message preparing backup used to to take 10 seconds to a minute, now it takes 5 minutes.  The status of the backup used to show 10mb's of 80 mb's backed up, and take under 1 minute, now it takes 5 minutes.  Finally cleaning up notice, and the time to clean up has increased significantly.  My backups go to an external HD (7200rpm) connected vis firewire 800, that has approx 180 gigabytes available of its 1 terrabybyte capacity.

I upgraded to Mountain Lion a few weeks ago. Everything was fine with Time Machine until a few of days ago.
Same problem others described: extremely slow, taking hours to back up just a few MB.
I verified the Time Capsule drive and my Mac hard drive - no problems found.
I then erased the Time Capsule and started Time Machine. It did the full backup in a fairly reasonable amount of time (several hours, but not unexpectedly long).
When it started its first incremental backup, it reverted to the same problem: extremely slow, but it did finish eventually.
I then shut down the Mac and restarted (power cycled) the Time Capsule. Then I started up the Mac and told Time Machine to back up now. It backed up 30+ MB in just a few minutes, so it seems back to normal. We'll see how it goes when the next scheduled backup starts up.
But you might try rebooting the Time Capsule (and your Mac).
By the way, when it was in the middle of the extremely slow backup, I disabled Norton Anti-virus and it didn't seem to speed it up any. But I left it disabled after I rebooted the Time Capsule and had a successful incremental backup, so I'm not sure yet if Norton is a factor.

  • IPhone crashes during backup before 1.1.2 update installation

My iPhone is crashing during the beginning of the backup phase before installing v1.1.2. It will freeze up my phone, disconnect from iTunes, & eventually restart again.
I have it plugged into a USB 2.0 port and there are no bent pins. I have Bluetooth and WiFi OFF. I closed all other open applications on my computer including iPhoto. I am currently running MAC OS X 10.4.11 and using the newest version of iTunes (v7.5).
What are my other options do I have to resolve this issue?

My iPhone does the same thing.
By comparison, my iPod has no trouble with syncing contacts,
photos, etc. but when attempting to update the iPhone,
it starts the backup phase as seen in the iTunes window,
the iPhone screen is dark. Then suddenly, the phone will beep,
its screen flashes, and we get a gray apple on the iPhone screen.
I have tried eliminating the dock. Tried two separate USB cables,
and tried the update from two different computers. Always the same result.
I have not tried to restore the iPhone, as I do not want to lose
all the phone call information. It seems to be working ok at the 1.1.1
    SW level.

  • Can you load a PSE 11 catalogue backup into a new PSE 12 installation?

My computer is in repair due too a HDD problem. When I get it back it will only have windows installed. I currently have PSE 11 but I suspect I can´t do a reinstall because I did not de-activate the installation before the crash and I can´t find any information on the forum how to get your code reset. So alternatively I´m probably going to buy PSE 12. But then I have to load my PSE 11 back-up into a PSE 12 installation. Is that possible without losing information? I anybody can help out I would be very happy!

If you contact Adobe Support using chat they can take care of deactivation for the inaccessible installation.
Serial number and activation chat support (non-CC)
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/service1.html ( http://adobe.ly/1aYjbSC )
If you only had the one installation, you should still be able to install even without contact Adobe Support since you are allowed to have activated installations on two machines.  But if you have the deactivate for the original you will then have the extra one available.

  • Installation of MaxDB 7.8 on Windows 7 stalls

The installation of MaxDB 7.8 64-bit on Windows 7 stalls when a "Custom" installation is made and loading of tutorial data is requested.
I've reported the issue and got the following response from the MaxDB colleagues:
The installer tries to switch the automatic log backup on AFTER the tutorial data is loaded.
Unfortunately the log area is too small configured by default to hold all tutorial changes without backup. We will correct the installer and you could prevent the Log Full situation (which leads to the stalling of the installer) by configuring the log area to a size of 250 MB.
    Solution:
As described above or do not load tutorial data at installation.
Hope to save you some time when installing.

    IL

Hi, you must copy folder "drivers/etc" from system32 to SysWOW64 and then you should continue with installation. Finally copy changes to system32.
I think you have different versions and windows
    Folder name      Bitness      Description
System32      64      Windows System folder (system directory) for 64-bit files
SysWOW64      32      Windows System folder (system directory) for 32-bit files

  • How to get password for itunes in order to restore from backup?

Original PC crashed and is now dead. I'm now using a different laptop. I De-Authorized all PC's from ITunes accoun, authorized the laptop and I connected my 3Gs to do the IOS update. I am now locked out of my phone. ITunes is on the "set up your iPhone" screen. A message states "This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or another iOS device." I select "Restore from the backup" selection and I am asked to enter a password. I don't know the password and now I can't use my Phone. What needs to be done to fix this?

    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • Creating and Booting From Backup OS X Tiger Disk 1

I work on two MacBook Pros (one running OS X 10.4, and one running OS X 10.5), and recently purchased a 2003 imac 1.25Ghz 17 inch model in great condition. It came with 10.3 installed, but also had the retail disks for OS X 10.4 Tiger with it.
The Disk 1 installer for Tiger won't boot-up the iMac, and it won't even mount on the iMac. The Disk 2 does at least mount. Tiger's Disk 1 will mount on my MacBook Pro's, so I used Disk Utility to create an image. I created one using Master DVD/CD, but this made a .cdr file that was over 5GB. I was able to burn a DVD+R DL for that, but that doesn't work in the iMac.
I then created a compressed disk image .dmg file which made the size right at 4.4GB. It is just a hair larger than I can burn with either the Disk Utility or Toast v. 6.0.1. No matter what I do I can't seem to make backup copy of the Disk 1 Installer to fit on a single DVD. I tried using Toast to just make a copy of the DVD, but when I insert a single-sided DVD, it still tells me there is not enough room on the DVD. Help!
    Thanks.

Disk 1 and Disk 2 retail Tiger install discs?
What color are the labels, and what do they say on them? The retail version of Tiger is generally a single DVD with a black label. There were also a small number of retail Tiger CD sets made, with I believe 4 CDs. I'm not aware of a Tiger retail version that consists of two install DVDs.<<
The labels are both gray in color. Disk 1 says iMac Mac OS X Install Disc 1 (version 10.4.10). The 2nd disk just says Mac OS X Install Disc 2 (no iMac). Both say they are part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold separately. With an iMac this old, would they have come with this iMac originally?

  • Best way to upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard and make a backup - help!

Hello, I have always found this discussion board the best place to go to get advice on my mac. I have an imac with Tiger OS. I want to upgrade to Snow Leopard - just bought the box set. I also have an external HD. I want to make a backup of my current system onto the hard drive in case of problems. How do I do this? Once I have done this, should I do an upgrade to SL or do a clean-install? Please advise - I have average tech abilities. Thank you!!!!!

I like KT's advice, and would add some words from a very knowledgeable mac person - John Gruber @ http://daringfireball.net/
    I Believe in Murphy’s Law
    Friday, 26 October 2007
Here’s how I recommend installing major new OS releases for typical users. (Atypical users would include anyone who ran developer seeds of the OS.)
First, make a complete backup of your current boot volume to an external FireWire drive using SuperDuper. (Carbon Copy Cloner would be my second choice.)
If you don’t back up daily — or at least very regularly — you’re foolish. If you don’t back up before upgrading your OS, you’re really foolish. I use SuperDuper’s “Smart Update” feature to clone my boot volume every night — the “smart” aspect is that it only changes the files that have changed since the previous backup. Before I install an upgrade, I quit every running app and run a fresh backup to create a snapshot of my boot volume. That way, if anything goes wrong, I can revert to exactly the state the system was in before installing the upgrade.
Next, boot from your external backup volume to make sure that it works. What you want to see is something that looks exactly like booting from your regular internal hard drive. Since I’ve been using SuperDuper, this has always been the case — I have never failed to successfully boot from my backup drive. Better safe than sorry, though, so I never skip this step.
Next, shut down the computer, and unplug the external backup volume. The odds of an OS installation corrupting a plugged-in FireWire volume are very small. The odds of an OS installation corrupting a FireWire volume that is not plugged in are zero.
Then boot from the installer DVD, follow the on-screen instructions, and perform a default upgrade. The default upgrade is the best choice for most users almost all the time. The reason Apple makes it the default and most obvious way to upgrade is that it’s the most convenient, and most tested upgrade path.
Update 28 Aug 2009: Starting with Snow Leopard, instead of booting from the DVD directly, you should instead pop in the installer DVD and launch the “Install Mac OS X” app on the disc. This will reboot your machine from the DVD, yes, but first it will download any necessary software updates that have come out since the disc was pressed. It’s a subtle but very nice improvement to the installer.
Arguments that there is something mysteriously dangerous or deficient about the default upgrade procedure — and that you should do a clean install instead, followed by tedious hours manually migrating software and data and preferences from your old installation — are voodoo. Apple’s installer engineers spend a ton of time making the default upgrade procedure as convenient as possible.
If you’re not a typical user; like, say, if you’ve been running pre-release developer seeds of Leopard, or if you’ve diddled with your 10.4 system software in unholy ways and really would like a factory-fresh start with 10.5, then I recommend the Archive and Install option. (That’s what I do, when upgrading from previous developer seeds.)
    So, in short:
Do a complete backup clone to an external FireWire drive.
Test that the backup is indeed bootable and up to date.
    Unplug the backup drive.
Pop in the installer DVD and launch the “Install Mac OS X” app.
If anything goes wrong in step 4, you have nothing to worry about, because you know that you have a complete, bootable backup.
Most people, of course, skip directly to step 4. And the odds are it’ll work out just fine for them. I say, why take a chance?

    Hi Scott,
Thank you for the quick reply. However, I have another thing to bring up. I created an exact replica of this instance to a separate server for my online backup testing. I used mksysb for my rootvg and created a backup of my datavg and restored it to the new server. To my surprise, my online backup worked. Im currently running it so that I can upload the log in this thread. I checked on the version of the brtools and they are both of the same level. Also, I forgot to mention that I've been using offline backup via brtools since last year. It was only now that Im trying to implement an online backup. Would this problem still be caused by brarchive patch 18?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Oracle Installation for Production Environment.

    Hi All,
We need to install Oracle in our production environment.
But since there is no DBA in our project, we need to do it by ourself.
I was just wondering what all steps and cautions I need to take to install it.
I was told just double click on Setup.exe :-) and that would suffice.
I am pretty sure its not that easy, atleast for a production environment.
We might need to set some params, may be.
We are at present using Oracle 10g Rel 1.
Any help/suggestion would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Tanuja

Well, it does more complicate than a double click of setup.exe, especially for a production database.
It's not only about the installation, also think about how do you want to create your database, the storage configuration, database configuration, and backup/recover strategy etc.
For installation, make sure you follow Oracle installation guide,
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B10130_02/toc.htm
And there are many other document here
