Backup P6 reports
we have about 500 primavera 6 reports. I am looking for a way to back all the report specifications up weekly. I was told there is no way to do this except clicking each report and click export to a .ERP file.
If needed I would have to import the report.
Does anyone know a way to do this, is the report specification help in a directory somewhere ? I looked in the database RPT table but there are no report specifications there.
The following procedure will work. Create a project that only you can view and update (via OBS security), open this project. Highlight and create a copy of the reports. Change the copied reports scope to 'Project', so thay will be owned by the project. Close the project. Now only you can get to the backup reports by opening the project. when the project is not open, the backup reports will not be visibile. If you want extra security, mark the project as checked-out, and even an admin superuser will not be able to amend or delete the reports attached to the project (unless it it is checked back in). I do have a concern that you need to have 500 x 52 backups per year of reports. Perhaps security on who can update reports could be revisited. Regards.

Required to take periodic backup status report from SQL server
Dear All,
I need to take periodic database backup status of all sql server instance in different domain. But, i am doing it by logging into all sql server manually.
We can do it through option called ' Managed server' in sql server by connecting required server.
But, I want to know the script and any other option in sql server to connect all sql instance in different domain group to take backup status report in single run.
I need your help here and share the experience if you implemented ever in your environment.see
http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/1601/script-to-retrieve-sql-server-database-backup-history-and-no-backups/
You can use above scripts to capture the information
For automated execution wrap it in a procedure with INSERT statement to dump the results onto a table and call the procedure from sql agent job to execute it based on a predefined schedule.

Backup status reported incorrectly
Using Windows SBS 2008, following recreating a partition (D:) which had reverted to RAW from NTFS, I needed to restore the last good backup, which appeared from the SBS Console/Server Backup Properties/Previous Backups to have successfully backed up drives

Time Machine does not recognize my 430 GB iMac backup on 1 terabyte Time Capsule. Reports: not enough space; can’t back up. How do I get it to recognize the old backup and continue backups?
Thanks for the Time Machine Troubleshooting link. Apparently things have changed since 10.7.0. Backups.backupdb doesn’t exist. Path now is: Time Capsule/Data/Daru’s iMac.sparsebundle. So I did Terminal (I usually avoid Terminal) using the instruction in B6. It does not appear to be working. It went through looking for backup, preparing backup, and is now stopping backup, and the TMBackup has disappeared from the sidebar.
Well, just now Time Machine progressed to preparing backup again; the Tiime Machine Backups appeared in sidebar, and with it Backups.backupdb/Daru’s iMac/2012-04-21-112939.inProgress. So it does exist... I’ll let it run, see what happens... But that is a strange date. Today is 28.
I’ll let you know the outcome.
Oops. Just ended! Real time report: “Backup too large for disk...“ So it is not recognizing the old backup. I’ll look at those instructions again, see if I can do the Terminal thing with the backup running. I doubt I can damage anything except the existing baackup which I'll lose anywy if I can’t achieve recognition.

Backup awr reports !!
Is it possible to back up old awr reports? If the answer is yes How ?
Hi,
If the intention of the backup of AWR reports is to compare them with the reports when performance deteriorates then you might consider creating a baseline when you think your database is performing well.
exec dbms_workload_repository.create_baseline(start_snap_id => your_snap_id,
end_snap_id => your_snap_id,
baseline_name => ' my database is doing well'); -

RMAN retention policy is set to redundancy 1
Based on the fact I see five backups of our current database (produced with "backup database") and we see "retention policy is set to redundancy 1", I would expect to see four backups reported, however the next line is:
no obsolete backups found;
Naturally, my scheduled "delete noprompt obsolete" never seems to remove anything. Any advise appreciated.Hi,
Please post here the script that you use to perform this backup.
Check if you are using KEEP UNTIL clause.
DELETE OBSOLETE Behavior When KEEP UNTIL Time Expires
If the KEEP UNTIL TIME period has not expired for an archival backup, RMAN does not consider the backup as obsolete. As soon as the KEEP UNTIL period expires, however, the backup is immediately considered to be obsolete, regardless of any configured backup retention policy. Thus, DELETE OBSOLETE deletes any backup created with BACKUP ... KEEP UNTIL TIME if the KEEP time has expired.

V$BACKUP_FILES
KEEP- Indicates whether the backup has a retention policy different from the value for CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY (YES) or not (NO)
KEEP_UNTIL - If the KEEP UNTIL TIME clause of the BACKUP command was specified, then this column shows the date after which the backup becomes obsolete. If the column is null and KEEP_OPTIONS is not null, the backup never becomes obsolete.V$BACKUP_FILES displays information about all RMAN backups (both image copies and backup sets) and archived logs.

Fails to backup changes, reports only eight files written
I had an "oops" moment and looked for a file changed yesterday. Couldn't find it (had other backup, luckily). I then went to the console logs and selected the backupd for the recent days. All of the backups were similar to this (arbitrarily selected):
12/18/10 1:53:07 PM com.apple.backupd[89594] com.apple.backupd Starting standard backup
12/18/10 1:53:14 PM com.apple.backupd[89594] com.apple.backupd Backing up to: /Volumes/Time Machine Backup/Backups.backupdb
12/18/10 1:53:17 PM com.apple.backupd[89594] com.apple.backupd No pre-backup thinning needed: 142.0 MB requested (including padding), 165.22 GB available
12/18/10 1:53:20 PM com.apple.backupd[89594] com.apple.backupd Copied 8 files (93 bytes) from volume Macintosh HD.
12/18/10 1:53:20 PM com.apple.backupd[89594] com.apple.backupd Starting post-backup thinning
12/18/10 1:53:20 PM com.apple.backupd[89594] com.apple.backupd Deleted backup /Volumes/Time Machine Backup/Backups.backupdb/BruceiMac/2010-12-17-133200: 165.22 GB now available
12/18/10 1:53:20 PM com.apple.backupd[89594] com.apple.backupd Post-back up thinning complete: 1 expired backups removed
12/18/10 1:53:21 PM com.apple.backupd[89594] com.apple.backupd Backup completed successfully.
The thinning takes place but only the noted eight files are written. I used Spotlight to see if it had a record of a similar file added during that period. It did. Not sure if that means anything except that the OS did know that a file was created.
I then restarted my iMac and forced a backup. It took a while, wrote lots of files and now current files are being backed up. No other issues noted.
Question is how to prevent this behavior or at least be able to detect it without having to daily check the logs.Bruce Michel wrote:
Thanks. Looks like that could be the issue. I did a routine disk check on Dec 9. The logs don't go back that far, but I don't see a good backup. So, I went ten days without a good backup on TM.
Yup, that'll do it.
I definitely will bug Apple about this.

Finder not taking into account local backups when reporting free disk space
Time Machine in Lion (10.7.2) stores local backups of files on your laptop's hard drive when it is not connected to an external Time Machine backup drive. See this article for more information.
If you click on the Apple in the top-left corner of your screen and choose About This Mac > More Info > Storage, you will see exactly how much space your local "Backups" are taking (along with other useful info about how your hard drive space is being used).
Interestingly, the amount of free HD space listed there differes from the amount of free space Finder says is available (when you choose View > Show Status Bar to display it). The amount that it differs is exactly the same as the amount of the local "Backups." So, it appears that Finder is not taking those local Backus into account when it displays free disk space.
So, Finder is telling me I have almost 100 gigs MORE free space than I actually have. I would prefer Finder to show me how much space I have AFTER the local Backups are taken into account. The article that you linked to gives the rationale for this:
Note: You may notice a difference in available space statistics between Disk Utility, Finder, and Get Info inspectors. This is expected and can be safely ignored. The Finder displays the available space on the disk without accounting for the local snapshots, because local snapshots will surrender their disk space if needed. -
User Managed Backup audit reporting
Customer is asking to give this information, i am wondering how i can get this , We are not using RMAN, User managed backups are being used, I am wondering if i can pull this information through data dictionar/dynamics views, if yes send me the queries plz
Please provide the following information as it relates to the applicable system(s):
(a) Type of backup application used for data backups (i.e. TSM, netbackup, etc)
(b) Frequency performed, such as daily, weekly, full volume, differential or incremental.
(c) Evidence of the last 2 iterations of data backups the date/time of successful completion. (The objective of the backup should be to restore files successfully to another system in time of failure.)Mithu,
No one can provide you with the information, if you are performing backup on the database then you should know the answer.
There are not Oracle technical questions, rather when and how you did your backup and approve of such.

Status report time machine backup by e-mail
Hello,
i'm using Leopard server (workgroup mode) and want to know if there is a way to get a time machine backup status report by e-mail
It's important for us to know every day if time machine was able to backup ok or if there are problems.
thanks for suggestions
MarcoAlthough you can restore messages from a Time Machine snapshot within the Mail application, it generally won't work with messages that were saved by an older version of Mail. In that case, you have to use an alternative method.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/Library/Mail/V2
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder selected. Inside that folder are subfolders representing your Mail accounts. The names refer to the email addresses you use. Decide which ones you want to restore messages from.
Enter Time Machine and scroll back to the snapshot you want. Select the account folders you want and then select Restore ... to... from the action menu (gear icon) in the toolbar of the snapshot window. Restore the folders to the Desktop, not to their original location.
From the Mail menu bar, select
File ▹ Import Mailboxes...
Import from the mailboxes in the folders you restored to the Desktop. The imported messages will appear in a new mailbox. Move the ones you want to keep wherever you like and delete the rest. Then delete the folders on the Desktop.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. -

It is ok to generate CMSBackup.sql file.
After backup, I re-install the Crystal Report Server and run the following command to restore Central Management Server System Table:
mysqldump --user=root --password=pass1234 boe115 < C"\CMSBackup.sql
After finish the restore process, I cannot found my setting on the Central Management Server System.

Learning how to look things up in the documentation is time well spent investing in your career. To that end, you should drop everything else you are doing and do the following:
Go to [url tahiti.oracle.com]tahiti.oracle.com.
Locate the link for your Oracle product and version, and click on it.
You are now at the entire documentation set for your selected Oracle product and version.
<b><i><u>BOOKMARK THAT LOCATION</u></i></b>
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what is available here. Take special note of the "books" and "search" tabs. Under the "books" tab (for 10.x) or the "Master Book List" link (for 11.x) you will find the complete documentation library.
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what <b><i><u>kind</u></i></b> of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
Open the Reference Manual and spend a few minutes looking through the table of contents to get familiar with what <b><i><u>kind</u></i></b> of information is available there.
Do the same with the SQL Reference Manual.
Do the same with the Utilities manual.
You don't have to read the above in depth. They are <b><i><u>reference</b></i></u> manuals. Just get familiar with <b><i><u>what</b></i></u> is there to <b><i><u>be</b></i></u> referenced. Ninety percent of the questions asked on this forum can be answered in less than 5 minutes by simply searching one of the above manuals.
Then set yourself a plan to dig deeper.
- Read a chapter a day from the Concepts Manual.
- Take a look in your alert log. One of the first things listed at startup is the initialization parms with non-default values. Read up on each one of them (listed in your alert log) in the Reference Manual.
- Take a look at your listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files. Go to the Network Administrators manual and read up on everything you see in those files.
- When you have finished reading the Concepts Manual, do it again.
