Backup PC Suite

Hi guys, I have PC suite installed at home on my PC and backed up my previous phone (via cable) using the backup utility. At work I also have PC Suite installed, because I cannot seem to connect my new phone to my home PC. Is there a way to copy or backup the information on my home pc and bring it to work? Where does PC Suite save it and can I take it to another PC? I guess the same issue would come up if you need to format a harddisk and you need to back up all your personal info - what do you back-up for PC Suite?
Thanks
Z

Hi, I have discussed my issues previously at another post (you are welcome to have a look: /discussions/board/message?board.id=connectivity&message.id=8157#M8157).
But it doesn't really matter. I just need to know how to get my backup from one PC to the next (without using the phone). Is there some kind of data file/folder that I can copy and then replace on the other PC?

  • Backup OVI Suite contents for Formating the Laptop...

    I need to format my Laptop n so i need to take backup of alll my OVI Suite contents from my laptop so that later i can use the same files,
    Would it be "C:\Users\xyz\AppData\Local\Nokia\Nokia Ovi Suite"
    or is it
    "C:\Users\xyz\AppData\Local\Nokia\Nokia Data Store\DataBase"
    Also whats the difference between these 2 folder files as 1 says "MDataStore.db3" & other has sepearte folders like messages, contacts, photos etc.

    I have to say that this is something that I have never done myself, so I'm not 100% sure that it will work. There are atleats two key files that you need. One is this MDataStore.db3 that you have already found. Other one is msg_dp.sqlite that is in ..Nokia\Nokia Ovi Suite\Messages\Database folder.
    Maybe you should take both of those folders that you are proposing (all files from there), just to be sure that you don't miss anything.
    As an extra safety you can export you messages from Messages File menu and Sync your contacts to your phone (you can also create vcf files from your contacts by dragging them to some folder, but that is laborious, since you have to do it one-by-one)

  • Backup Bouncer

    Backup Bouncer is a backup test suite. Is your backup identical? Find out.
    Unfortunately, it might have to be ported to Linux.

    If the architecture of the target machine is the same as that of the machine on which the binary file has been combined then it shouldn't be a problem otherwise you have to check for what architectures the file has been compiled. This is easily done using the lipo command. E.g. Running the command:
    lipo -info /usr/local/bin/rsync
    gives the output:
    Non-fat file: /usr/local/bin/rsync is architecture: x86_64
    while lipo -info /usr/bin/rsync gives:
    Architectures in the fat file: /usr/bin/rsync are: x86_64 i386
    So I cannot use either of these files on my Powerbook G4 for example.
    But it isn't always that simple. As far as I know one should be able to run i386 binaries also on x86_64.
    You can also compile binaries for a different architectures than your own. This is most easily done through XCode (click on the Info button and choose what architectures to build for) but can also be achieved on the command line by slightly modifying the make files. The exact change will depend on the software which you are trying to compile but at the end of the day it all boils down to passing more architectures as arguments to the compiler.

  • Need help restoring data

    I have several disparate Windows 2003-based database with limited storage and memory resources. Each database is running in NOARCHIVE mode. I have a need to backup the database prior to upgrades. If errors occur, I'd like to be able to restore the database to its previous state.
    However, each time I perform a restore/recover, I see the updated data in all tables rather than the original data from the backup. Am I under the false impression that RMAN can restore data within the same database? Any help is appreciated.
    I'll attach the scripts that made use of see if there is anything that I am missing.
    CREATING A BACKUP
    1.     rman nocatalog
    2.     RMAN> connect target sys@ncr1
    3.     RMAN>shutdown immediate;
    4.     RMAN>startup mount;
    5.     RMAN> report schema;
    6.     RMAN> backup tag ‘ncr178_pre_upgrade’ database;
    7.     RMAN> list backup;
    8.     RMAN> startup
    RESTORING THE DATABASE
    1.     rman nocatalog
    2.     RMAN> connect target sys@ncr1
    3.     startup force mount;
    4.     restore database;
    5.     recover database;
    6.     alter database open;

    Rman will always try to recover the DB to the point of failure unless otherwise specified. If the changes made by you is available in the online logs(since your DB is running in noarchivelog), it will always apply that changes too while recovering.
    if you execute the restore commands shown by you, RMAN will restore the datafiles (if any file is missing and backup is available), apply the changes (if available in the logs) and open it..
    Rman is more suited for productin DB s where DB is running most of the time and in archivelog mode. In your scenario, I think, a cold backup is suited...

  • How to rollback from patch upgrade?

    If I installed a new patch for DS or DPS, how can I rollback? Is there any tool to auto this job?
    Thanks!

    I think after taking ldif backup for config and user data, you may simply re-install the original DS5.2 without patch.
    However for schema and config data changes, it is your responsibility to scrutinize them and restore back the "correct" one.
    So you may need to edit the ldif backup to suit the rolled back schema and config, prior to restore via ldif,..

  • New BIOS Posted

    Hey All W100 and 105 owners...Toshiba US has posted a new BIOS. It has some major changes. I installed the night, so far so good...
    Version 1.30 - 2011-01-26
    •Improved Battery Management.
    •Improved Deploy Center 5.5 recovery speed.
    •Added support for the McAfee Endpoint Encryption eToken.
    •Added support for the Paragon Backup & Recovery Suite.
    •Implemented the INTEL specification for the Intel 5 Series Chipset to improve stability.
    •Implemented the INTEL specification for the Intel Pentium U5400 Mobile Processor Series to improve stability.

    I installed this yesterday and it looks like this may have helped the battery run-down problem when the PC is switched-off or hibernated.  After leaving it overnight I still have 98% battery left, this seems to be a major improvement but will need to leave it for a few more days to make sure.

  • Enterprise server data recovery

    A database server took a pretty rough hit oct 31 and we have been trying to recover the files that were stored there for three weeks. The trn logs and database only date back to December of 2013, we haven't been able to find  anything from January
    2014 till now.
    I have search all drives and back ups but to no avail. Is there anyway to recover data lost from this year.

    Hi Jemell,
    Are you talking about SQL Server database or Windows Server (Any editions)? Regardless of your situation, there are only few things you can do to restore your valuable data yourself, either perform recovery through recovery software or send it across for professional
    data recovery services.
    See if any data recovery software can do the needful. As it seems that stored server data is crucial for you, I can recommend few most popular recovery software and want you to have a look:
    Acronis Backup Advanced suite and
    Stellar Data Recovery.
    If you are still facing issues in looking for your desired data, consider sending it for professional data recovery services.
    P.S. Stop using the drive immediately (saving any more data to the problem drive/server) and seek for professional help.
    Do let us know about your progress.

  • How to escape from Lion Upgrade ?

    Hi,
    I own 1 Imac and 2 Mac Book Air,
    The OS Lion is on the 2 MBA since I bought them, and I really recommand to avoid this OS.
    Since I use the OS Lion I have trouble on my Mac: connection, applications... Is this OS the end of the Apple Quality ?
    I called the assistance : solution given are to kill some programms and restart (great solution isn't...)
    Moreover it is impossible to downgrade the MBAs to Snow Leopard (because Lion was orignally on it), I am about to send back the 2 laptops due to that and move back to pc and Windows (which is bad but known for).
    If someone have a clue to cure the Lion, it would be good.

  • 6110 - replace memory card

    Hi,
    I have a 6119 Navigator and I've decided to replace is memory card for one with bigger capacity. However, when I did it, all the languages I had (except the English), were missing.
    This is a problem for me (Portuguese) mainly because I need the Portuguese language for Nokia Navigator.
    I've tried to make the backup (OVI Suite) but when I restore the data, nothing happens: the English language is the only language available.
    I would appreciate any tips to solve this.
    Tanks (and sorry about my English).

    The reason was because I've other R66 maps needed to install some maps (downloaded from nokia maps) and

    @JJESilva
    Although you would need to enable "Show hidden & System files" on your PC first, have you tried:
    1. Connect the phone to the PC via USB and select "Data Transfer Mode"
    2. Run Route66 sync on the PC.
    3. Select the map files, etc in the right hand pane within route66 and press backup.
    4. When complete you should see the backup file in the left hand pane of route66.
    5. Press the red 'call cancel' button and select 'remove memory card' on the phone and remove this memory card (Best keep it safe just in case). Insert your shinny new memory card.
    6. Using the phone, format the memory card (just to be safe).
    7. Start Route66 sync again and restore the backup to the mobile.
    Windows 7 - Open (My) Computer Press the Alt key > Click Tools > Folder Options…Click the View tab, select Show hidden files and folders, and uncheck Hide protected operating system files.

    Sorry, did not work and tried it a few times! I think I have tried about every combination of restarting the PC, the phone, no other apps running etc., even tried via IR and still same results.
    Is there a particular setting on the phone perhaps that is causing problems, that's about the only thing I have not really checked (or have a clear idea what)?
    What I might also try is digging out my old 6310i that I have somewhere and trying with that, see if I get the same results. If it does work then it might be my 6021 if not, then I can only assume the PC end of things....Message Edited by gb075317 on 30-May-200709:15 AM

  • Backup/Restore from PC Suite with N71 worthless

    Hi,
    I have used Backup from PC Suite (Version 6.82.22.0) to backup my N71 data before I gave the N71 to a repair shop. The N71 camera was not working.
    After four weeks I got a N71 replacement. A brand new N71 with a different serial number which is not good because some S60 apps now no longer work.
    But anyway the real surprise I got was after I run Restore from PC Suite to get all data back. The Restore finished without any error but almost nothing useful was restored!!
    No Contacts, No Messages, No phone Setup (Themes, Bluetooth Config, Apps).
    Huh???
    Is this really how Backup/Restore from PC Suite with a Symbian S60 3rd Nokia N71 us supposed to work??
    If yes, than Backup is utterly worthless!!
    I am not aware that I did something wrong. I have used Backup regularly and never got any error messages.
    But it is painfully obvious that the most important data from the phone are not saved!
    All the Restore did was restore some audio and image files and the Notes contents.
    Regards,
    Gagome

    you can check the backup log for the details of the backuped content. or try this tool to view the content of the .nbu.
    What's the law of the jungle?

  • PC Suite Backup failed to backup contacts

    Went to update my firmware today, and it said that it would delete all contents on my phone. So, I updated PC Suite, and then clicked the backup button. It appeared to be successful.
    I then had it install the firmware update. After that successfully happened, I went to backup, and clicked Restore. It updated my saved profiles, applications, files, and images.
    My contacts, however, are now all gone.
    The log shows it backed up Contacts, but there is nothing in that heading. If you compare it to how the log formats files, there were items under it as a heading, like so:
    Content restored:
    - User files
    Images\Backgrounds\underdark1_176x208.otb
    Others\ClientLoginTest.swf
    Others\FlickrMobile.swf
    Others\show_keycodes.swf
    Others\testing_login.swf
    etc...
    - Contacts
    - Calendar
    - Settings
    - Messages
    - Bookmarks
    - Full backup
    So, following that logic I'm lead to believe that my Contacts didn't actually back up. Um... darn?
    I have some contacts backed up on my SIM card, but they are 2 years old, and don't have the 2 years worth of contacts I've added since then.
    Just thought Nokia might want to know their Backup program doesn't work with Contacts on a Nokia 6680.
    BTW, just so today wasn't a total failure, what DID my firmware update actually give me? An "up to date Symbian OS" doesn't count; that has no tangible user value.
    Finally, here is my system info, hope it helps the engineers to prevent this problem for other users in the future:
    Operating system:
    Microsoft Windows XP
    Build 2600
    Service Pack 2
    Language: English
    Language for non-Unicode programs: English
    Locale: English
    Input language: English
    Nokia PC Suite:

    Language: English
    Connectivity Cable Drivers:

    Version 6.43.8.0
    Microsoft Outlook:
    Version 11.0
    Build 5510
    Bluetooth stack:
    Microsoft Bluetooth stack
    Version 5.1.2600
    Build 2180

    I had the same problem today when trying to restore a full phone memory backup of my Nokia 6680.
    All data was restored except contacts data.
    The phone went through a repair and the motherboard was changed (=> new IMEI) in a authorized Nokia Service Center.
    So the Contacts in Phone Browser were empty.
    BUT I FOUND A SOLUTION!
    It only works if you have backed up only your contacts (so you have a .nfc file in "C:\Documents and Settings\*YOUR-USER-NAME*\Application Data\Nokia\ContentCopier\".
    (Before taking the phone to the repair shop, I made the backup twice - one full backup, and one backup selecting only contacts)
    So, if you have the .nfc file, copy it to a separate folder. (If i leaved the .nfc in the same folder with the .nfb, pc-suite-content-copier only sees the .nfb file(s) and the Contacts/images checkboxes are grayed).
    After copying the file, in ContentCopier select Browse and select the folder with the .nfc file in it.
    Now the checkboxes are not grayed anymore (what a stupidity!), contentcopier says it found a backup file, and you can restore it succesfully.
    For precaution, now i will manually copy the c:\system\data\contacts.cdb file, instead of using the **bleep**py content-copier.
    IT IS A SHAME NOKIA DIDN'T CAME UP WITH A SOLUTION SINCE AUGUST 2006 ! WE PAY A LOT OF MONEY FOR THEIR LATEST GENERATION PHONES, BUT WHEN IT COMES TO SUPPORT THEY FORGET US! INSTEAD OF HELPING US, THEY TRY TO HIDE THE PROBLEM WITH ANSWERS LIKE "This is a user to user forum" - **bleep**! MAKE IT A USER-TO-USER-AND-NOKIA SUPPORT. THAT IS WHAT PEOPLE WANT!
