Backup/Restore from PC Suite with N71 worthless

Hi,
I have used Backup from PC Suite (Version 6.82.22.0) to backup my N71 data before I gave the N71 to a repair shop. The N71 camera was not working.
After four weeks I got a N71 replacement. A brand new N71 with a different serial number which is not good because some S60 apps now no longer work.
But anyway the real surprise I got was after I run Restore from PC Suite to get all data back. The Restore finished without any error but almost nothing useful was restored!!
No Contacts, No Messages, No phone Setup (Themes, Bluetooth Config, Apps).
Huh???
Is this really how Backup/Restore from PC Suite with a Symbian S60 3rd Nokia N71 us supposed to work??
If yes, than Backup is utterly worthless!!
I am not aware that I did something wrong. I have used Backup regularly and never got any error messages.
But it is painfully obvious that the most important data from the phone are not saved!
All the Restore did was restore some audio and image files and the Notes contents.
Regards,
Gagome

you can check the backup log for the details of the backuped content. or try this tool to view the content of the .nbu.

  • RMAN Backup Restore from tape

    Hello Gurus
We have lvl0 RMAN database backup restored from tape but due to some reasons we could not apply recovery on it. On checking the information in controlfile, it identified only the system file and no other file. So, we recreated the controlfile and decided to recover using backup controlfile option (until cancel or until change or until time). However, to my surprise, when I listed the checkpointchange# and checkpoint_time columns of v$datafile_header, I found the difference in timestamps ranging 24 hrs -- which menat we had to apply 24 hrs of archiving to bring all dbfs to a consistent state (before it allowed us to open the db) -- so far so good, it worked that way.
My question is that, while I trigger a lvl0 RMAN backup at say 4PM on 27th July and it finishes on 4PM on 28th July (as I am directly pushing around 1 TB data to tapes) -- what is the consistency timestamp of this backup. In other words, is this backup available for a restore of 4PM 27th July? Or is it available only for a restore of 4PM 28th July and later ...?
Isn't it that RMAN works at block level and when I fire a backup it should give me all the dbf's of that timestamp..?
    Appreciate your inputs/comments.

When taking a online backup with RMAN, the datafiles backup is always inconsistent because it needs the archived redo logs generated during the backup to be consistent: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/intro005.htm#sthref70.
A full online backup can only be used to restore the database to a point in time starting after backup end: if a backup starts at 4PM on 27th July and it finishes on 4PM on 28th July you can use it to restore the database to a point in time after 28-JUL 4PM.

  • N73 won't restore from PC suite

I backed up my phone with PC suite, then updated to the latest firmware. Now, when I try and restore all my info from PC suite, it doesn't find the backup file. Even when I manually search for it, it won't let me select the folder with the backup info in it. I know that it is the correct folder, because I opened the .dat files and can see my info.
    Thanks,

  • How do I restore from external drive, with outdated back-up  software?

I mistakenly kept using my LaCie external drive's Silver keeper softerware after upgrading my Mac OS. My SilverKeeper version is 1.1.2, which I now know is incompatible with my Mac 10.4.6. (Maybe that is why I got an error report when I
ran the Mac diagnostic disk on the LaCie.) In any event, after suffering a major crash (Kernal attack, and resulting reformat of the hard drive), I am wondering how to attempt a restore from the LaCie. Should I try it with the software that actually created the LaCie back up that I have; or should I reinstall the appropriate version of SilverKeeper first?
I have been plugging along with some CD back-ups of the LaCie, but this is quite frustrating since it has to be done manually. Is it possible to download an upgrade to the back-up disk directly? And if so, would this really help matters?
As you can see, I'm really a bit of an idiot about these matters; so any ANY help will be most appreciated.

My own opinion is that you should install the later appropriate version of Silverkeeper. That said, I would in fact recommend if you can wait a few days for an answer, that you email the La Cie Silverkeeper backup team via the email link on the site at http://www.lacie.com/silverkeeper/
They are careful to say they are not officially providing a backup service, but when I emailed them with a query regarding usage about a year ago after downloading Silverkeeper for myself, I got a reply within a couple of days that cleared up my question.

  • How to restore from time machine with Lion preinstalled?

Yesterday I got an iMac and OSX.7 Lion was preinstalled.  I set up a time machine disk and performed a full backup, and it will work for file histories, but if my main disk fails how do I restore from this time machine backup?
I never had to restore in Leopard or Snow Leopard, but I believe the procedure was to insert your optical install and/or rescue disk and from there was an option to restore from a time machine backup.  If I don't have a rescue disc, as no media whatsoever came with the iMac, how do I perform a restore?
I think if you upgrade to Lion it gives you a recovery partition but I don't think I have that with Lion preinstalled.  At least I can't find it.  Ideas?

Sorry, I RTFM'd and found this:  "To open the Mac OS X Utilities application: Restart your computer while holding down the Command and R keys".  From there you can restore from a time machine backup.  Sorry for the post.

  • 3gs no service after updating to ios 5 tried network reset, reset all settings and even restoring from back been with out phone for 3 weeks now need help telus cant find network problem and apple has bad customer support please help!!!

my 3gs has no service after updating from ios 5 tried resetting network settings, resetting all settings and restoring from back up on itunes.
telus cant find any network problems and apple is difficult to deal with.please help 3 weeks with no phone and $70 a month not happy.

I have been having a similar problem for the last few days.Without warning the signal will just completely duck out leaving the device searching for several minutes before settling on a no signal message.
Sometimes restarting the device, toggling data and 3g settings or toggling Airplane Mode will set things right. However, a lot of the time I've been left without a working phone.
I don't believe this is a SIM issue, as I had to change my SIM only one month ago for another signal related problem. Again any help would be appreciated here as well.

  • E71 - Cannot restore from PC Suite Backup

I made a back up of all my phone data (except the memory card files) in order to run a firmware update and then restore the data.  After successfully updating the firmware I tried to restore but the restore tool of pc-suite shows that both of my back ups were just "user files from Phone Memory". When I restore that I dont have my contacts, notes, calendar entries etc. The file is 12MB, so I the back up was successful but there seems to be some problem with the restore.
I took a backup in my memory card as well which i could restore but I did not want to do this fearing the older files might overwrite the newer firmware update. But am left with no choices. Can anybody help?
I faced this problems in both firmware updates (200.x.x and 210.x.x)

Please use Noki to check if the file is properly backuped.

  • Restoring from Time Machine with no Leopard install CD?

I've been having dreadful problems with my 2006 MacBook recently, which resulted in it being sent away for repairs. I got it back today, and to my surprise and delight it had Leopard installed.
My recent problems have made me realise how much I need a bootable backup. I had been planning to use SuperDuper to make a backup system using an 80GB firewire drive I just bought, but since I now have Leopard, I thought I could just use Time Machine.
However, I now realise, Time Machine doesn't make bootable backups. Booting from an install DVD and then restoring would be a perfectly good solution for me, but the problem is I don't have a Leopard install CD to boot from! And I assume booting from my Tiger CDs would not help, since they won't recognize Time Machine formatted files. And SuperDuper isn't compatible with Leopard.
So how can I make it so that my Time Machine backups are any use to me if my computer won't boot from the hard drive?

I thought it was probably a mistake -- it was certainly a surprise -- but I don't plan on complaining. I chose to interprent it as a gesture of apology for how many things have gone wrong with my hardware in the past year (I'm on my third hard drive, second DVD drive, second main logic board, second set of connectors... thank goodness for AppleCare)
I really want a restore-able system... I guess I'll have to think about how badly, whether it's worth my paying for the Leopard DVD or going back to Tiger!
Thanks for your response - it's good to be sure what is and isn't possible.

If you use a recovery catalog and want to duplicate database in a fresh server.
    1. connect with the target database.
    2. connect with the recovery catalog.
    3. connect with the auxiliary database.
    4. Run the duplicate command.
Before running the duplicate command copy the backup piece to your fresh server from the target server. Both mount point should be same.

  • N73 error message after restore from PC Suite

    Hi,
I have recently received an insurance replacement for my damaged N73. I restored my settings etc via the PC suite. Now I have two problems:
    - The programmable buttons have no function assigned to them
    - When I try and access tools then settings I get the error message "Unable to open settings. Back up and restore in progress"
The restore process seemed to copmplete successfully, I've tried powering off and on, removing the battery, running the restore again with the same result.
    The software version is V3.0638.0.0.1
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Thanks!

Try updating the phones firmware to see if that cures it.

Then try to restore your old settings.
If this doesn't solve your problems then the handset may be faulty.

  • Imac won't restore from time machine backup after HD (hard drive) recall replacement

I have an imac bought in 2011, running Snow Leopard.  It required an HD replacement due to the 1 TB Seagate recall - the replacement was done by a certified Apple repair station yesterday.  Before the guy left he started a backup/restore from my latest time machine backup set.  It failed.  I attempted it two times and got error messages that it failed and the computer needed to be restarted to try it again.  No luck.  I called the guy back and he told me to call Apple Care.  Not thrilled about that response since the guy had just left my house I did what he told me to do.  (A quick sideline here:  I recognize that a time machine backup should be no big deal and SHOULD work everytime, but it doesn't.  It irks me that Apple is replacing my HD through no fault of mine and yet they don't allow the restore of data to be a "covered" expense in this process - this isn't just because this was an authorized repair guy - the Apple store would have done the same).
Back to the issue.  When I called apple care they pretty much had me try the same thing again with an earlier back up set.  To my knowledge, it didn't work.  I say this because it looked like it was working and when I came back to the imac later, it had restarted and once again booted to the OSX install.  (The boot disc is still in the imac).  When I tried to boot from another location, one did not show up to boot from so I assumed that the data didn't transfer and it forced another restart.  So, I tried something else.  I tried to re-install the snow leopard OSX without using the restore function.  That appeared to work and then when the machine restarted it asked if I had another mac and I chose the option to get the files/apps/etc. from my time machine backup.  The computer chose what I can only assume is the most recent backup set (It chose what I know to be a subfolder that appears under the dated backup folder - Macintosh HD--which btw is confusing seeing as that's always the name of the HD on the imac).  I again stepped away from the computer so it could do its thing for two hours.  When I returned, I was back to the MAC OSX screen that asks you to choose a language.  There were no more options to choose DISK UTILITY or RESTORE FROM BACKUP, etc.  When I clicked on English it took me right back into the screen where you say whether you have another Apple that you want to transfer data from.  I realized that the imac must have restarted and I assumed maybe it was because the boot disk was still in - except how do you get the disc to eject?  I also initially assumed that the backup had somehow failed again and triggered a restart.  I tried to choose the option to just set up the machine without transferring data and when I got to the choose a name for your HOME folder message I tried to enter the same name I had it as before and it wouldn't allow me to do so, saying that that name was already in use.  I also tried a different name and that didn't work either - got the same message (I assume if it is not the same name that it won't sync up with the time machine data from the backup set).  So, I almost tried the "select time machine backup" option again until I looked at my HD space.  Clearly, there is space that has been used.  HD space was 997 at the start and now it's 636. My initial thought is to somehow get back into the setup area where I can use disc utility and erase the whole thing and then start over but 1) I don't think it's going to work even if I could get back there 2) I have no idea how to get this thing to reboot into that mode 3) I can't get the boot CD out to even try to restart to see if this thing did what it was supposed to, SO NOW I AM TOTALLY STUCK!  I have not called Apple Care back because quite frankly they were useless the first time.  I have a call into the repair guy but who knows how much help he will be.  In the mean time, I have a million things to do and a computer that isn't working - Whoever said Apples never have issues needs to be seriously censored!
A few other notes:  I use Time Machine Editor to run my backups weekly.  It was set up that way from the get go by an Apple rep who came to my house to get us up and running.  Editor should not effect the way that time machine does its work, so I doubt there is relevance but thought it worth mentioning.
One other note is that the Apple Care agent tried to have me do something called a "Source" something or other from the disk utility screen but when she realized that my backup file (shown by date) contained many other sub files (11-27-12/MacintoshHD/MyNamesIMAC/etc.), it was not possible to run this operation - thus we aborted.  Sorry I don't remember the name of the process and unfortunately now can't access that option to go find it.
If you can help me, I would be eternally grateful!  I am open to having a phone conversation if you are willing to give me your email to mail you my number. I have so much work to do this week and this was the last thing I needed.  Did I mention this was supposed to be EASY?
I used to be quite the geek with my PC - still on the learning curve with the mac but not enjoying it.  I am fairly tech savvy and I can follow instructions for a step by step solution if you've got one.

I got a recall and had the drive replaced. I have retored 3 timesa dn even had apple do the job and it is still not right. I still can't get a simple ghost of the data from time machineback tot he new drive.
This is Apple's explaination as taken from their web page.:
Restoring your entire system from a backup
If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac
With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Recovery system (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility.
Note: If "You can't restore   this backup because it was created by a different model of Mac" appears  when restoring  a backup that was  made on a different Mac, follow the onscreen instructions.
I even posted this information on the community and apple removed it... because they don't like the:
    Off-topic or non-technical posts
    Non-constructive rants or complaints
    But here is my experieince:
Take in 27iMac running 10.6.8, 5-7 days, what a joke, my boss will be happy to pay for a week without working. Finally get, "if you have TM back up, 3 days." Get machine back with 10.6.3, hit the R recovery, click TM back up, runs for 2 hours, reboots, looks great. Box up take back to office... update to install - OH NO, still running 10.6.3. Updates crash with no specific error on install, BUG PROBELM, nothing runs.
Call Apple... after hours, tells me to boot using 10.6.2 disk, wipe, reinstall OS, udate to 10.6.8, THEN do the restore. GREAT! Only thing 10.6.2 DVD won't read... now back on phone... take back to the store, Genius says, he'll ix it just like it was. PROMISES it'll be fixed.
Pick up next day, supposedly, booted to disk, wiped drive, reinstalled, updated to 10.6.8 and THEN did the RIGHT restore... Looks GREAT... apps run and 10.6.8 OS. Back to the office... NOT RUNNING right!!!... fonts messed up, drop box app needs new install, cocktail needs upgrade, Fetch not working, memorized paths gone... back ups locked out of permissions... ***!!
4 hours on phone with apple and still no rsolution - to missing "settings". Seems there are THREE WAYS TO RESTORE (according to apply tech)... Running MIGRATE ASSISTANT and being able to choose your files, including settings, "R" RESTORE after they load a new OS... or NOW WAITING for them to send me a bootable 10.6.3 disk and then boot from disk, w/o installing OS and doing a restore from TM. I think this is done via the disk Utilties application.
So now can't back up without doing a full 400 GB back up since permissons are screwed and possibly destroying any good back ups... can't work, like having hands tied behind back. WAITING for solution! Very upset!!!
I did my first restore just like they said and now an 10 days without proper machine. Just FYI. I thnk I am going to make the store do the tech work so I have somthing to fall back on.

  • When I turn on my new iPhone 5s, I have to select a language and county and then my only options are to restore backup from iTunes or restore from iCloud.  I have already restored form iTunes, so what am I doing wrong?

When I try to turn on my new iPhone 5s, the ONLY options it gives me is to either backup from the iCloud or restore backup from iTunes.  I have already restored the backup from iTunes, so I don't know why it keeps telling me to restore the backup.  And why won't it give me any other options?  I can't text, call, etc.  My phone will do NOTHING.
    Any suggestions?

It seems you restored from a blank back up if it is still asking you to choose one of those options. Set it up as new then manually restore from back up with iTunes on your computer and be sure to check the date of the back up an which phone the back up is from.

  • New laptop,  want to restore from recent backup?

So I bought a new/used macbook pro from a friend. I backed up my previous pro with TM and want to restore to that backup. Problem is, when I plug in time machine and go into time machine it wont let me restore to any of those backups.
I dont want to re-install the OS (wont I lose my iLife if I do that?). Or is that the only way to restore from a backup from a different system?
Is there any way to do it without re-loading the OSX?
    Thanks

    Tmilless wrote:
Wow, thats a lot of info. haha. Im not very savvy when it comes to all this.
Yeah, sorry, but there are potential complications, and we want to be sure not to mess anything up!
I have the original disks that came with this new 13" pro.
Are they gray? See what version of OSX is printed on the label (in small type).
And my last machine was a macbook pro running snow leopard as well. I upgraded by buying the 30 dollar disk and upgrading from Leopard. I believe this machine came standard with snow leopard.
The previous owner didnt erase and install. He said he was going to, but when I fired it up for the first time I got the screen with his login info. He gave me the password, I created a new account under my name and deleted his.
Can someone walk me through this like Im a 6 yr old on how to boot from the install disk to do the restore?
    Yup.
But you need to know this:
Gray OSX discs are hardware-specific; they won't start a different model or vintage Mac. And, a Mac won't start from a version earlier than the one it came with. That's often finer-grained than the version numbers; there are several "builds" of 10.6.4, for example.
So it's unlikely, but possible, that the "new-used" Mac won't start from the backups of the old one, and/or the upgrade disc you bought.
To do the restore, see #14 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
Be sure to use a Snow Leopard disc for that.
If there's a problem after the restore, either that it won't start or has problems like those in the [Mac OS X v10.6: Issues after restoring a Mac from a Time Machine backup made with a different Mac (Restore System From Backup…)|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3243] article, you'll need to install Snow Leopard from the original disc that came with that Mac.
Or can I do it manually through time machine with opening a couple finder windows dragging what I need. I've done some of that before.
Not a good idea; don't copy from your backups, restore from them. Once this is sorted out, see #15 in the FAQ.

  • TS4036 Can you restore from an earlier backup then go to a newer backup

Trying to recover some old app info need to know if I can restore to an older backup get info then go back to a newer backup

It would work, if icloud still has the older backup.  I would definitely suggest that you perform a backup to iTunes.  Many users have had problems with restores (losing pictures and other datat).  So after you are done with the older icloud backup, restore from the iTunes backup.
Even if iTunes says it’s backing up your iPhone or iPad to iCloud, all you have to do when your device is connected is right-click on it in iTunes and choose “Backup.” It’s that easy.
