Backup restore nightmare... help
My son inherited my iphone 4s upgrading from his old 3gs. I backed up his 3gs and tried restoring his back up it onto my 4S.
After the black "restore in progress" screen, the white "swipe to upgrade" screen appeared and asked me for a password.
Entering my son's password failed(he only has a simple numerical password and it comes up with a full keyboard , before you ask, no, he didn't change his password without letting me know.
I can't even attempt to try my old 4s's password as it doesn't give me the keyboard language change option: mine was in Cyrillic.
Restoring to factory settings through itunes brings the software update with an estimate download time of 40 hours!
My PC doesn't stay on for that long! Is this really my only option???
My only hope is that I am doing something wrong. Please help!

From your post I see that the passcode has been changed on a device, thus not allowing you to restore to the backup due to not knowing that passcode. You are correct that at this point your next best bet is to restore the iPhone to its factory settings. This can be accomplished by either using iTunes, or Find My iPhone if it was enabled on the device.

Moving to a new PC - Backup / Restore problem (Help me John Ellis! :-)
I’m embarrassed to ask this. But I need help. I have spent probably 25 hours on this (mainly reading forums) and nothing has worked. Here’s my situation:
I was using Photoshop Elements 7 on an old Windows XP PC.
I tried to move my catalog to another computer using Backup and Restore (following these instructions: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402894.html).
I used “Backup” to back up to an external hard drive.
I connected the external hard drive to my new PC (Windows 7). I used Photoshop Elements 7 to “Restore” to the C drive. Selected New Location and restored into the Pictures Library.
Problem: The “Restore” had two major problems
The thumbnails all have question marks
When I click on any of the photos, and look at its Properties, they are all pointing to the external hard drive (drive “E”). (Interesting, all the photos were copied to the C drive of my new PC also…they are in the Pictures Library. When I unplugged the E drive and restarted Photoshop Elements, the photos’ Properties were now pointing to the C drive. So that’s good. Except that about 10% of my photos still have the question marks.)
To make sure I hadn’t lost my mind, I used my external hard drive and did a Restore to another PC. And had the identical experience.
Any advice? Thanks!It seems that some path has become corrupted due to which the rest of the files are shown missing. Try reconnecting the files manually.

I backed up to my PC and attempted restore but I keep getting an error message that "iTunes could not restore the iPhone because not enough free space is available." I have a 32GB iPhone; only 13GB used!!! HELP! iCloud backup/restore did not work either! How can I resolve this problem to restore from back up.
If you're not a developer then you really should not have upgraded.
I'm unsure how you can fix this as you have already done a back-up on iOS 7 and apple don't support firmware downgrades. -
Backup/Restore Issues - Please Help
I decided to update my software last night and it bricked my iPhone. After several attempts I was finally able to get it back to the factory default installation.
Because of the multiple unsuccessful attempts, my restore list has been over-written by bad backups. Now I can't find a way to recover my good backup. The available restore list only shows backups from these bad backups and one from over a year ago. Did itunes delete all of my backups between now and then? Is it possible to recover them? I'm using a PC and I checked the backup folder in my profile. It is only showing 8 folders (there are also only 8 in the itunes restore list). Is there anything else I can do? What happened to all of my good backups?
Please help. ThanksIs there any activity which is physically opening this file or some process that is reading this file in edit mode?

If the backup you're trying to restore from is encrypted, you will not be able to use that backup if you can't remember the encrypted backup passcode.
If on a Mac, & you elected to save the passcode to your Keychain, you can recover the passcode from your Keychain. Otherwise, your backup data is unrecoverable.
While you can continue to sync/backup, if you can't remember it & want to remove it, you'll have to delete your existing backups, & restore your phone as a new device.
You delete your existing backups here: iTunes>Preferences>Devices. -

I Was wodnering of you ever had ths issue resolved. My wife's iPad 2 is havieng a similiar issue. The iPad receives only some emails -- they appear to be from people in her contacts-- but not emials from "strange" soucrces. No junk mail rules are set. And oddly enough it is a new iCloud email address.

<Personal Information Edited by Host>Well, first off, you are not addressing Apple here. This is a user to user PUBLIC forum. You should not post your personal information like that. Try closing iTunes, reboot the computer and connect again. Are you using the latest version of iTunes, v11.1?

Deleting the correupted back up means to delete the information of one month since the last back up I made is one month ago.....right?
This back up I made right before I restored my iphone. During the restore however my OS was upgraded to 5.1.1. and reading the comments on the internet it seems I am not the only one whom experience this problem.
Can it be that if I downgrade my OS back to 5.1. the back up will not be considered as corrupted? If so, how do I downgrade the iphone?

I have had my new iPhone 5s since the middle of December 2013 and I really enjoy it, however, I'm finding the iOS a little unstable.
I backup often - whether to iCloud or to my iMac at my office or to my Acer Windows 7 based Notebook at home, and I have had to do a full backup restore of my phone software after it suddenly refused to sync with iTunes. The only option open to me was "Restore iPhone" which also is a nuisance and takes a little while if you have a lot of content on your phone. I've had to do this 3 times now and it's getting on my nerves!
Also, as I type this, my contacts are suddenly removing themselves from my phone book. I discovered this as I was going through my Whatsapp messages when I noticed a few numbers in my recent chats that didn't have names or contact pictures. When I scrolled to the top of the message, I noticed that the "add contact" detail was suddenly available. I immediately checked my phone book and noticed that those contacts are no longer available. A lot of my numbers are suddenly showing up like this within the last hour and I haven't changed any settings at all. I back up to my notebook and iCloud once a week. This problem is a first for me as well.
I must point out that I never had these issues with my iPhone 3GS which was only becoming cumbersome due to its outdated OS and because of its processing speed.
Will I need to wait for the next IOS Update to solve this problem, or will I have to find an alternative solution?
Any advice you have to offer would be most welcome.Simplify your question,will you? I have trouble in reading such a long English article.

How do I backup/restore multiple IPhone on one computer
Hi everyone
Need some help here. I work as a helpdesk and recently most of the IPhones are now due for upgrade. What is the best way to backup the data from old Iphone and restore to new Iphone for multiple users on one computer? Basically everyone expects to hand me their old phone and new phone, and when they get the new phone back, the new phone will have the same data as it was on the old one.
I have done backup/restore just for myself before. Is there a easier way to do for multiple users on the same computer?

How about backup to icloud and then restore from icloud? I did not bring it up because I do not want the backup/restore to cripple to network.
I would normally ask the users to take their old phone and new phone to AT&T store or Apple store to get it done. But as I work in corp office, and all I dealt with are the CEO, CFO, etc. They want the upgrade process done and without them getting involved (I try to keep it that way to make them happy).

I am unable to delete whole texts from left-swipe. i click delete and they dissappear. But then i can't send or recieve texts. i reboot phone and deleted message reappear, but i am able to continue send/recieving texts.. i've synced, backup, everything. Help! I am doing this beacuse in my space on my phone my doucments and data are taking up 9GB of space, and i don't know why other than in my phone it says messages are taking up 8GB or so. I am running ios 7.0. I have synced my phone with itunes, backed up, reboots after deleting the texts, they never vanish, i have even restored from itunes and restored from a backup that didn't include the texts after i deleted them.
actually better to reset your phone and reinstall the latest firmware again after that restore your back up it should be ok

Windows Vista 64-bit and the Backup & Restore....
I've recently found out that Backup & Restore is not supported by Vista 64-bit. So, all the backups that did not complete and has the error message (0x8007002), all the backups are of no use. All of my documents, pictures, music, original
music materials, etc., are all gone. Can't even open the error-ed backups! Can my system be restore to it's original settings before the backup fiasco? I am at a lost to what can be done!

I tell what I usually do.
I have EssBase and its apps in a server, and SharedServices in another one, so that, I have to do different backups.
First, make a Full backup for the ...\Hyperion folder with any backup tool (ntbackup and/or veritas in my case) and then, differential backups.
In the other server a use a script to make local copies of the SharedServices folder to mantain 1 copy per day.
On the other hand, you have to backup you SQL bases. I use de ms SQLServer tool for that.
This is a copy of my script to backup SharedServices (anyone who "lost" OpenLDAP service knows what I'm talking about..) that I scheduled to run every day. Please note that SharedServices has its own script to backup the directory, and it works fine.
++NOTE: %HYPBKP% is a system variable that I set in windows
