Backup/Synchronization in PSE

How do I turn off Backup/Synchronziation in PSE?

When I select Backup/Synchronization, it asks for birthdate.  Can't enter it because years only go to 1943 and I need 1942.  Also, I don't have a Personal URL.  This I am unable to log into My Account and change Backup/Synchronization preferences and settings.  What now?

PSE 8 using Windows7 and Norton.  System goes to initializing and runs for 30sec but does not download any pictures.  PSE 7 worked fine.  It is like PSE8 cannot find files or Norton blocks the connection.  What action should I take?  Have spent hours trying everything.

    In another thread, Puj stated:
"I can upload pictures to Photoshop.com from that program. I still cannot backup/synchronize from PSE8  I have updated Norton and turned it off but no luck.  It still seems as if PSE8 cannot find the files which I do not believe as all 8,000 pictures I have are in the organizer.  Something blocks the program from sending or blocks the program from receiving the files.  Again I am not sure the files make it into the send mode."
I wanted to focus on a couple of statements you made:
"...I do not believe as all 8,000 pictures I have are in the organizer"
Do you mean they are not in the Photoshop.com Organizer, or in the Elements Organizer? Why do you think this is the case?
"...Something blocks the program from sending..."
This does sound like Norton might be the possible cause that's stopping the sync agent from working; anyone in this forum have specific ideas on how to get around Norton, short of uninstalling?

  • Backup/Synchronization Warning Hard Drive Almost Full

Every time I try to create an album in Photoshop Elements 10, when it goes to upload to Photoshop.com, I get a warning that my hard drive is almost full. If I repeatedly indicate I have fixed the problem, the album will eventually synchronize.  My hard drive is not even close to full; I have 1.36TB free of 1.80TB.  My Photoshop.com account is also not nearly full, I am using 2.6GB of 20.0GB available, as I purchased additional storage.
What is causing this error and how do I fix it?
    Robert

    Hi Robert,
Please try signing out of your Photoshop.com account from PSE and then sigining in again. Also verify that your C drive also has free space. Backup/synchronization also downloads files from your online account to the local hard disk . The default save location is the Pictures folder of the system. You may receive this message if downloading the online files fills up the loacl disk. See if its useful. Would be glad to help further. Thanks.

  • Backup/Synchronization Pending PSE10

When I try to share an album, it shows a "bandaid" next to the album name that says "Backup/Synchronization Pending".  And the album never gets uploaded to photoshop.com.
The Adobe Photoshop tech worked on it for a couple of hours yesterday, and finally said he would have to escalate the problem to others.
This feature worked before I upgraded to PSE 10.
Any suggestions as to what may be wrong, or how to fix?

Are you saying that you are getting duplicates on photoshop.com.
PSE usually backs up all albums which you specify in the the backup preferences. Once the photos are uploaded, it would not make duplicate copies even if the same photos are present in different albums.
Although, if you make any changes to the photo, then it would propogate the changes to ps.com

  • Error: backup/synchronization services

when I go to the preferences and choose backup sync, I get the messasge "there was an error opening backup/synchronization services. close and try again." The backup to my phtoshop.com account has been working.from Elements.  I created a new album and set it to sync. It won't sync. I am using Elements 9
Backup sync is checked in the album. When I check view backup sync status. the window tells me that "your desktop photos and videos are in sync with your online account. click sync now to check for any changes since last sync cycle" Why is it referring to desktop photos? My photos for this catalog are in My pictures.

  • PSE8 Backup/Synchronization not working for more than a month

    1. Reconnecting files shows that a file is not connected; however, no file is listed. How do I find missing file's properties.
    2. Backup/synchronization preferences works fine.
    3. I can select one or more or the whole catalog.
    4. The twirly icons show next to the album(s) for a second or show but then the synced icon remains in album/albums.
    5. I click OK and after the hour glass shows a while, it finishes.
    6. I click on icon and see that sychronization is on.
    7. If I check (unsynced items, synced items, or items marked for sync) it shows nothing and says that none of those choices matches.
    8. I have repaired and reindexed countless times (never has there been a "repair" problem.
    9. I click on optimize and that works.
    10. After that I notice "generating thumb nails" and the twirly thing moving. I've let it generate thumbnails for more than 24 hours and it's still going.
I have spent countles hours during day and night, and I can't get it to work.
I noticed that someone wrote that he had a similar problem that began with his using the IPAD. And I started using the IPAD also, but I couldn't sync my files with photoshop.com before that.
Customer service and Help provides me with no answers. What should I do?

    Hi clairenanak:
Sorry to hear about the troubles.
On your #1, you may have disconnected files of media types that are not visible. To ensure that all media types are visible, go to View > Media Types, and check any items that are not currently checked. Then try the Reconnect.
As far as backup/sync not working, disconnected files can stop sync from working.
After resolving the disconnected files issue, let us know if sync is not working. We may need to look at the sync log to determine why.
As for the Organizer constantly generating thumbnails, this could indicated that you have many files, for example 10,000, in your catalog.
If you have many files in your catalog, then you may need to just wait for the process to finish.
It may also indicate a problem with the thumbnail cache that can't be repaired by the Optimize command.
You can manually reset this file by doing the following:
Determine the name of your Elements Organizer catalog.
The name of the catalog appears in the lower-left of the Organizer.
Alternatively, you can open the Organizer and then click File >  Catalog. The name of the catalog will show in the list at the bottom  with " [current]" after it.
    Close the Elements Organizer.
Navigate in Windows Explorer to the folder that contains your catalog. Here are the default locations:
       Windows 7 or Vista: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\<CATALOG NAME>
Click Start, type "%ProgramData%" (including the quotation marks) into the Start Search, and then press Enter.
Open each folder in the above structure until you have opened the catalog folder.
       Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\<CATALOG NAME>
Choose Start > Run, type "%AllUsersProfile%\Application Data" (including the quotation marks) in the Open text box, then press Enter or click OK.
Open each folder in the above structure until you have opened the catalog folder.
NOTE: Replace <CATALOG NAME> with the name of the catalog that you determined in Step 1 above.
There should be a file called thumb.5.cache, which is the thumbnail cache. Delete this file.
The next time you open the Elements Organizer, the thumbnail cache will begin to rebuild. This may take some time, depending on the number of files you have in the catalog.

  • PSE8 Backup/Synchronization Status Initializing

My PSE8 Backup/Synchronization Status will not get past Initializing. After a few minutes the Backup/Synchronization Status window closes and I have to start the process over again. It was working fine. I travel outside the US and connect to the internet, could this cause a problem. I have read some of the other threads and am not sure if I should re-install PSE8 again or rename sync files, etc.Below is a copy of the latest log file.

  • Pse9 not uploading on backup/synchronization

Having recently transferred files to a new computer, I am trying to backup my 5,000+ photos to photoshop.com.  I purchased th right amount of storage space for the files and backup/synchronization appears to be uploading them, but the files are actually not transferring (not appearing online and the memory used is not changing).  Having read other posts, I diabled real-time scanning with McAfee, but this did not resolve the issue.  No errors are appearing and the program is going rapidly through the files, not taking as long as it shoul for uploading.  I have Pse9.
I have also tried logging out, turning off sync and then restarting everything.  Still not working.  Other suggestions?

    Hi,
May be you should read the following Help page.

  • Error ocurring when trying to Backup catalog in PSE 7

I am about to upgrade my OS and want to start fresh.  Obviously, I want to backup my PSE 7 catalog beforehand so I can restore it and not lose the thousands of tags, etc I have applied.  I have carefully followed the steps and even ran some utilities (Repair & Optimize) that didn't return any problems.  However, I keep getting and error that says "an error ocurred while writing to file.".  I am attempting to backup to an external HD that has plenty of room.
Any suggestions on what to try next or what could be causing this?  I reconnected all the images that I wanted to and removed any disconnected files that I didn't want from the catalog.  I have no idea what the problem could be.  I have plenty of memory and a fast processor.
Anyone out there that can help?

A number of people have reported this error message and have had trouble troubleshooting.  (PSE is notorious for uninformative error messages.)  A couple of things to check:
    - Make sure the file permissions on the external drive are set properly.  In Windows Explorer, try creating a couple of test folders, and then use another program like Notepad to try creating some test files in those folders.
    - What the external drive originally connected to an XP system and now connected to a Vista or Windows 7 system?  That can create obscure permissions problems.
    - Is the external drive formatted as as FAT32 or NTFS?  In Windows Explorer, navigate to Computer, right-click the external drive, and select Properties.
Note that you can do a backup using a third-party utility or by copying all your picture folders with Windows Explorer.  Make sure to also copy the catalog folder (do Help > System Info to find its location).  Doing a restore from such a backup is quite feasible, though it may take a little extra time.

  • Backup Problem in PSE 8

When I try a backup in PSE 8 it begins by caluculating the media size, but before it finishes it stops and seem to begin to search for a missing file.  If I let it search on its own or select browse the result is the same.  The Reconnect Missing File window comes up, but no picture is displayed.  Therefore I cannot connect or delete the offending picture.  How do I find the file causing the problem?  I have tried to run reconnect all missing files with the same result and I have tried to repair the database with no change in the result.  Thanks for your help

    I have Quicktime version 7.6.5
I cannot see/play MOV video files taken with a Canon powershot 960SD within PSE, I do not know what codec was used to create them. (what book do you refer to?, please elaborate so I can provide the codec info requested).
I CAN play the video files in Quicktime outside of PSE.
I can see/play m2ts video files from within PSE.
I was able to see/play these same videos with PSE8 in Vista... the problem came after clean-installing W7.
    Thanks for your help

  • Itunes does not synchronize offline PSE 7.0 photos

In iTunes 8 (version 8.0.2.20), the photo sync feature allows to synchronize photos from a Adobe Photoshop Elements (PSE) album (e.g. version 7.0) and copy them onto your iPod.
    Improvement suggestion
However, if your photo files happen to be backed up on a offline storage (DVD-ROM or USB drive), iTunes will simply not see any off them. Alternatively, it would have been smart to use the lower resolution copy that PSE holds in it local cache.
Furthermore, the resolution of those miniature files are usually fine enough for displaying on a iPod screen! I hope that the next version of iTunes will be have a better integration with Adobe PSE!

    Rock and a hard place...
Self installer would be great if I could get on the internet...
Without iTunes i can't tether my iPhone - without tethering my phone I can't get iTunes.
On the PC that has iTunes I can't download the installer as I already ahve the latest version.
If I could download the file to USB then take it with me to the offline PC - I could instal and then tether

  • Catalog backup problems with PSE 11

    Hi,
I'm having terrible problems trying to backup my catalog to an external hard drive.
My PC is running Windows 7 with 8 GB of internal memory. My external hard drive is formatted to FAT 32 and has 130GB of spare capacity. My catalog is 45GB.
I have previously backed up the the catalog without any problems but can't remember if I did this before I upgraded to PSE 11.
I initially tried doing a full backup but got an error part way through writing the 'breeze' data. Having read that the breeze data was only used for face recognition, I deleted the remaining breeze data files and tried again.
I then encountered a problem when writing some of my early .jpg files. I couldn't see any obvious problem with these but tried removing them and runnning the back up again.
This time it got a bit further but hung up on some .mpg files.
I removed all video files and tried again.
This time it got up to over 60% complete but it then hung up on some early files which had a 'description' 2002 rather than a straight date name to the file. I thought that there might be a problem with file names including ' 's ', so removed these and tried again.
I then tried running Catalog 'optimize' and 'repair' (I didn't tick 'the re-index visual similarity data').
I eventually got up to over 65% complete but couldn't get the backup to go past my 2007 files no matter what files I removed.
I then tried doing an incremental backup using a Catalog file that I had created in 2011. This backup failed with 'an error encountered while writing.....WaldoData\waldo.cache'
I now don't know what to try! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
FYI, looking at the backup Catalog files that I have previously created, it appears that only the first contains all the images from whole catalog with an equal number of .xml files.
Two others which I created (which I can't remember were full or incremental backups) only have some of the images. I'm sure that this can't be right.
I presume that for an intial backup the .xml files should run from B0000001 to Bnnnnnnn; the .jpg/.mpg/ etc from Bnnnnnnn+1 to B 2(nnnnnnn) and that when one runs an incremental back up the new .xml files are added from B2(nnnnnnn)+1 to B2(nnnnnnnn)+(mmmm) and the image files continuing for a further (mmmm). Is this correct?
Otherwise what should one be seeing?
    Regards
    Mike

Thank you for your information about my problem with PSE 11. I have since tried the programme on 2 different computers and it works fine. Seems like the problem is with my computer although my old PSE 10 works okay. I'd appreciate any ideas about what could be wrong with my computer to cause my photos to break up into various segments which don't join together particularly when I move them into 'before and after horizontal' or '......vertical' and even when zooming them. • How do I use a backup of a pse 8 catalog as my new catalog on a new computer w/pse 13?

    Hi,
The title explains what I'd like to do but am not sure how to accomplish this.  The new computer is windows 8.1 64 bit.  Any suggestions?

Use the backup and restore method, starting in the PSE8 Organizer.
These instructions relate to version 6 onwards.

  • Backup errors in PSE 12 to External 2TB WD drive on Macbook Air

I have PSE12 installed on a Macbook Air using OSX 10.9.4 and I'm trying to back up to an external 2TB WD hard drive that I have backed up to before.  I can see the drive and contents in finder but after 5 attempts to back up I keep getting an error writing file message.  Does anyone have any ideas about why this is happening or how to fix it?  Alternatively, if there is a better backup solution out there I would consider that too.  Thank you in anticipation.

Thanks for the reply!  I was, however, looking for some insight from someone who maybe had a similar setup going and successfully trouble shot this problem.  As I said, my macbook pro works in this setup without any problem whatsoever...so while not technically supported, doesn't mean it's impossible.. or even difficult.

  • Backup synchronization won't initialize in Photoshop Elements8 & windows 7

    Hi
I just recently got a new computer and moved all my pictures etc to it using the windows easy transfer. My old computer was running XP and my new one is running Windows 7 professional. When I installed Photoshop Elements 8 on my new computer it had a hard time recognizing where my files. I actually started a letter (email) to adobe but forgot to push send. the next morning when I got back to my computer it suddenly recognized my file location and I thought everything was good. Not so. Yesterday i added some new pictures to my computer but when i opened photoshop organizer it didn'tsee my new photos - even though it was watching that folder. Now it seems to be recognizing the photos but when I try to get it to sync with my photoshop online account the backup syncroniztion won't intialize. It keeps cycling.
I have tried reinstalling Photoshop Elements 8.0 earlier but that hasn't helped. Any suggestions? I love the fact that it can backup my photos without me even thinking about it and now I want it back
    Help

Yes for some reason when I tried every suggestion that I could find it still hung up and wouldn't sync.I changed power settings thinking it was somehow timing out and sleeping etc. Nothing worked.  I even found a posting from someone else that said they had the same problem without any resolution from Adobe(if I remember correctly the rep had said to them it may be an issue with the fact that  they were using  64 bit and it wasnt originally designed to work with 64 bit and hench had glitches. I may have misunderstood that though).
I then realized that I had paid extra just to have this feature(XP Mode) in Windows 7 so I tried it .....It was surprisingly easy to do just a matter of clicking on something that said to run this program in XP mode and it worked. I haven't had a problem with it since.
