Backup text messages

i have a lumia 800and have been trying to setup my hotmail account but it appears that there is a conflict between my hotmail id and zune id so i cannot get the phone to add my hotmail account.
my problem is that it seems the only way to resolve this is to reset the phone which in itself would not normally be a problem however the issue i have is that there doesnt seem to be any way to back up or transfer text message threads.
i have several important threads that i need to refer back to by timeline etc.
i simply cannot believe that whoever developed the software missed out the ability to transfer or backup such an integral part of any phones usability.
perhaps most people consider text messages as throwaway or disposable and i concede that a lot of them are by nature but surely there are a lot of poeople who at some stage need to check their texts to verify an agreed appointment or task?
why on earth can contacts, photos, videos etc be 'synced' with the zune software and not text threads?
i would admit that i am not the most technically minded person in the world but i can usually get my head round most things - given time, but this one has got me flabbergasted.
pleas someone restore my sanity and if not give me solution at least give me reasonable and logical explanation.
thanks

Unfortunately it is true for wp7.5. Thngs are slightly better for wp8. Only suggestion is to copy and paste messages and save as note or doc.

  • How do I TRANSFER / BACKUP text messages from my 9800 to my PC?

I'm new to BLACKBERY, and I have a 9800 TORCH on which I have several TEXT message conversations that I want to transfer / backup to my PC. I've got he BLACKBERRY Desktop sw installed, but I cannot locate the text messages. Please advise. Jon

You can use blackberry protect.  it backups text messages online.  The link for it is in my signature.
You can also check app world for an app that can forward the sms to an email address.  Here is an example of a free one but check around:
    http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/132110/?lang=en
You can also keep the messages forever on the blackberry by setting the option.

  • How to backup text messages in iCloud?

    Hello everyone,
Just before the release of the latest iOS upgrade, i want to know whether we can actually backup the text messages on iCloud or we need to do any third party installations to do the process. I have a lot of text messages that are need to be retrived back after the upgrade.
    Thanks

Those settings only reflect the things you have the option not to include in the backup, not everthing that is backed up.  This article explains what is backed up:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4859.  You will not that is says, in part:
You get 5GB of free iCloud storage for:
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
    Visual Voicemails
Messages are included in the backup, they just don't appear in the setting you are looking at because you don't have the option to not include them in the backup.

  • HT4910 how to backup text messages

hi i want to know if i could recuperate a old message that by mistake i deleted from my text messages?

If the messages were on your phone when you last backed it up, restoring to the entire backup should recover them.

  • HT3406 how to backup text messages?

I read that text messages can be backed up but no place do I see an option to do this. How can I backup and then restore all text and imessages?

Why is this so? Does Apple have a reason for forcing restore of backed up data t be all or none? I am spoiled by Windows where I can backup whatever content I choose and restore whatever content I choose from any variety of backups. This gives an enormous advantage over the all or nothing approach currently the case with Apple.  Is the software sold outside the Apple store acceptable to do these tasks?
Because that is the way that Apple wants to do it.
As far as a reason, only Apple would know that, and speculation is prohibited here on the forum.
Backup and restore on iOS devices has always been all or none. You cannot install software on the iPhone that does not come from the App Store unless the device is jailbroken, and discussion of that is also prohibited.

  • Cannot backup text messages

    Hi,
I'm trying to backup my phone but always get an error on the text (sms) messages. If I look into the backup log, following entry can be read:
"Some content on the phone could not be read and was not included in the backup.
Following content can not be copied to other phone models:
    - Text messages"
Something else that also does not work, and is probably part of the same problem is going to messages from within Nokia PC Suite. It opens a new screen which says "updating..." but nothing happens. The progress bar stays empty. (I waited for 10 minutes, nothing happens).
    I'm using: Nokia E61
    firmware: 2.0618.06.05
    Nokia PC Suite 6.82.22.0
    Anybody an idea?
    Kind regards,

Tried it... Restarted the phone after the install.. Started a new bakup. But it is not the solution.
The backup goes very fast to 60% complete starting the text messages, like in 1 minute or so. Then it slows down every percentage. It really stalls at 69% - Text messages. To continue only after 10-15 minutes to complete with the error that everything except the text messages are backup-ed.

  • Does the iCloud backup text messages?

My father passed away toward the beginning of January and my phone is acting up. I have made sure that iCloud has backed up everything. I need to make sure that if I get a new iPhone, the messages will download from iCloud back to the phone. I believe when I got a replacement phone before it did this but since these are messaged of my father who is no longer with me, I need to make sure that it will. If I lose these messages, i will be devastated. I am also hesitant to update to the new software that just was released tonight because I don't want anything to glitch and lose these messages. Thank you for your help.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Yes iCloud backs up your messages.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • Why won't my new iphone 5 sync my text messages from my old iphone 4S

I have managed to sync all other items on to my iphone5 but the texts are not syncing. I also cannot find a section under the sync options to select texts messages - I thought this would automatically transfer from the backup of the content of my old iphone 4S.
Anyone know how to sync old texts messages across?
    Thanks!

YOu don't sync text message, they are part of your backup.  IF you backup your 4s and restored your 5 from that backup, text message should be on your new phone.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
you sync contacts/calendar/music/photos and apps to your phone via itunes.

  • Can I recover text messages from an old Iphone that has now been wiped? Some of my messages got lost in between the process of turning my old phone in for a new one-which I have since restored from a backup a few days old

In the process of exchanging my defunct Iphone for a new one, some important text messages were lost. The messages obviously did not transfer over to my new phone as I had to restore my new phone from a backup performed a few days ago. Is there a special trick that will allow me to somehow enter my cell number, since it is still the same, in order to recover texts that were received in between wiping my old phone and getting a new one?

You can use an iPhone file explorer such as TouchCopy to get the messages off the old phone. But you can't put them on the new phone as messages. You could put them in a pdf file that you could read on the new phone.
Normally when you get a new phone the first thing you should do is transfer the contents of the old phone to it (Transfer content from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device - Apple Support)). Then the problem does not arise. You are even prompted to do this when you activate the new phone. Once you have started using the new phone without doing this it is too late.
To tell Apple your concern go to http://apple.com/feedback. This is a user to user forum; Apple does not read or participate in it.

  • I accidently synced my phone to my dads itunes account, so when he went to 'backup' his phone, he got all of my photos and text messages. How do I get his text messages and photos back?

When I first got an iPhone, I didnt have my own iTunes account. So in turn i used my Dads. Well being unaware of what i was doing, I synced my iPhone to his account. Well a couple of months ago, i started using my moms apple ID to buy things in the app store, and i started recieving her text messages. Now my dad, has plugged his phone into his itunes account and has synced it and has all of my photos, his contacts are still there, but he has all of my apps, all of my text messages and has all of my photos. What can i do to get his things back? And stop getting my moms text messages. I really would like some help on this please Thanks!!!

  • How do i retrieve my text messages from an icloud backup?

I updated my phone to ios 6.1.3 6 days ago and last night i noticed when i looked at my phone all my text messages were erased. I had messages going back 3 years ago and ive lost it all. I noticed my Phone had updated to the Icloud in the morning and in the evening everything disappeared so im hoping i can still get it all back if i can restore from my Icloud. When i go to restore on Itunes it wants to restore from my computer which was 6 days ago. HOw do i switch it over to resotre from my Icloud backup?
    Thanks

You cannot retrive individual peices of data from an icloud backup. You will have to go to settings>general>reset>erase all content and settings. Then during the setup assistant, you will have to Restore the device from the Icloud backup.

  • How do I backup and view text messages from my iphone 4?

How do I backup and view text messages from my iphone 4? I want to know where and how to backup and view text messages and all other personal files, including voicemail, recent calls, etc. from my iphone. Is this function in iTunes and/or does iTunes already backup this stuff when I sync?
I really just want the answer to how and where this works.
    Thanks

Apple provides functionality in the backup done via iTunes to backup the device and text messages.  There is no functionality to view the text messages on the computer.
    About iOS backups
Other programs are available which can extract text messages from the device or the iTunes created backup and then be viewed on the computer.  To my knowledge, no program exists which can force backed up text messages into the device once they've been removed.
Google is your friend when looking for 3rd party software related to text messages.

  • Online Backup Assistant and Text Messaging address books

It appears that my contact list as found in Backup Assistant is totally separate from my address book as found on the Send a Text Message page.
    Am I correct?
If so, is there a way to copy my Backup Assistant contact list to my Send a Text Message address book?
If there is no way to synchronize these lists, I would request that such a feature be added.

Am I correct? Yes, that is correct.  The backup Assistant is synced to your actual phone, and the address book for vtext. com is limited to the contacts you enter there and text through that method.
If so, is there a way to copy my Backup Assistant contact list to my Send a Text Message address book?  I don't believe there is.  I'm not sure there is a way to import ANY contact list to the vtext.com pages, at this point.
If there is no way to synchronize these lists, I would request that such a feature be added.    Let's hope someone who can do something will see this and pass along the suggestion....

  • Restoring Only Text Messages and Phonecall History From Backup

    Hello,
I just restored my iPhone and I was wondering if there was a way to restore only text messages and phonecall history from my back up this morning.
The backup is located on my Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard if that helps. Thanks in advance for any help.
    Rgds,
    ValeraPRP

    Welcome to the discussions,
you can only restore the whole content of the backup, at least that's what is supported by Apple. There is software out there letting you read and extract parts of your backup, for example photos, but you'll have to use this on your own risk. One example can be found here: http://supercrazyawesome.com/
Whatever you do, make sure to back up your backup folder before, or use Time Machine to do it for you.
