Backup the Complete Guest Domain

Hi All,
What is the best way to backup the complete Guest Domain including the configuration and all, so that it can be migrated to another server.
Thanks in advance

The best way in my opinion is NOT to copy the guest domain.
instead just have the vdisk beck-end device be on a shared storage ( via san of nfs ) and then just use ldom migration to migrate the guest domain to another server

Open the Mail, Contacts & Calendars preference pane in System Preferences, and select Facebook. Make a note of the settings for the account, then delete it from the list.
Then follow the instructions on this page: Resetting the SyncServices folder.
Log out, log back in, and recreate the account settings in System Preferences. See whether there's any improvement.

Thanks for the answer Linc, but how do I check to make sure the back-up process is working if I don't think I need to restore?
Create a test file with Text Edit (or any other program) and save it to your desktop.
Run Time Machine from the menu bar.
When the Time Machine icon in the menu bar stops spinning, drag your test file to the trash.
Open Time Machine and go back 1 page. You should see your test file on the desktop.

  • After a complete restore of Mac from a Time Machine volume, I don't want a full backup the next time Time Machine backs up.

After performing a complete restore of my Mac from a Time Machine volume, Time Machine wants to perform a full backup the next time it backs up.This is normal: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1338
But I don't have enough free space on my external hard drive to do this because my external hard drive already contains one complete backup. My hard disc on my MacBook is 320 and my external drive is 500 GB, so it doesn't add up. I don't want to delete the original backup in case something goes wrong during the new full backup. What can I do?

You don't have too many options.  The best approach would be to buy a larger external drive.  The guideline for Time Machine is that you should have 2-3 times as much capacity on the external drive as data you're backing up.  See item 1 of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  In any case, you can't prevent that first full backup unless you're willing to turn off Time Machine permanently.

  • Error "NOTICE: [0] disk access failed" during guest domain network booting

    Hi,
Could you please tell me what is the problem with my configuration?
I created guest domain on my T1000 server.
As a disk I used disk from disk array: /dev/dsk/c0t18d0
    I added disk using commands:
    # ldm add-vdsdev /dev/dsk/c0t18d0 vol1@primary-vds0
    # ldm add-vdisk vdisk1 vol1@primary-vds0 myldom1
    # ldm set-variable auto-boot\?=false myldom1
    # ldm set-variable boot-device=/virtual-devices@100/channel-devices@200/disk@0 myldom1
Then I logged to guest domain and booted from network to install OS from JumpStart server:
{0} ok boot net - install
Boot device: /virtual-devices@100/channel-devices@200/network@0 File and args: - install

  • Windows Backup - The backup application coud not start due to an internal error: You must be logged on as an administrator to perform this task. (0x8100000010).

Windows 7 users in my domain are unable to configure or change backup settings.  Users are able to open Control Panel > Backup and Restore, but when they click
Change settings, they receive the error: Windows Backup - The backup application coud not start due to an internal error: You must be logged on as an administrator to perform this task. (0x8100000010).
The same error is received when executing sdclt.exe /configure at the command prompt, regardless of whether the command prompt is launched using "run as administrator".
I've done significant testing, and have been able to determine that the local administrator account is able to configure backups before the computer is joined to the domain.  Once the computer is joined to the domain, the local administrator account
and domain users who are in the local administrators group are no longer able to configure backup and restore.  Domain administrators are able to configure backups.
This is a new issue, which began occuring sometime in the last 2 months.  3 months ago, users were able to configure backups without issue, and those computers with backups configured are still able to run their backups and do restores; however the
settings can no longer be changed.
Clearly something in the domain is doing this, but Group Policy has not been altered, and I can find no setting that would be doing this in any case.  Any help is appreciated.

    Hi,
So you mean you have tried different accounts in the local Administrator group and all of them failed?
If so, please check what group the local Administrator group belongs to? Does it belong to a group with limited privileges, such as the Guests group?

  • Volume as install disk for Guest Domain and Live Upgrade

    Hi Folks,
I am new to LDOMs and have some questions - any pointers, examples would be much appreciated:
    (1) With support for volumes to be used as whole disks added in LDOM release 1.0.3, can we export a whole LUN under either VERITAS DMP or mpxio control to guest domain and install Solaris on it ? Any gotchas or special config required to do this ?
    (2) Can Solaris Live Upgrade be used with Guest LDOMs ? or is this ability limited to Control Domains ?
    Thanks

  • Cannot join Windows XP machines to the Mac PDC domain

    Frustrated...
Yesterday, I was able to successfully add 5 Windows XP machines to the Mac PDC Domain (lets call it xyz.lan). Those machines show up as valid computer accounts in Workgroup Mananger (PC1$, PC2$, etc.). Users are able to logon to those Windows XP machines using their Mac Open Directory user account and access their home folder, etc.
This morning, for some reason, I can no longer join XP machines to the Mac PDC domain. On both PCs I tried it with, I receive a "Insufficient System Resources exist to complete the requested service" on the Windows XP machine. I am using the diradmin user account and password to supply credentials. Same exact process as yesterday (which worked fine).
A couple things of note. I made sure the PDC domain is set to Enabled for allowing Guest Access and that WINS Registration is also enabled. Authentication is lso set for NTLMv2 and NTLM for enabled. I also tried rebooting the server this morning as well. It's running 10.5.4. This was not an upgrade from 10.4, but a fresh install of Leopard.
No changes were made on the server between yesterday and today that I am aware of.
Looking at the /var/log/samba/log.smbd log, there are thousands of entries for "This process has forked and you cannot use this corefunctionality process, You must EXEC()" etc... The log also shows failures when the XP machine tries to join to the domain. Log entries are listed showing, "pdbdefault_createuser: failed to add new account for 'PC6$'". Adding PC6$ manually via Workgroup Manager doesn't help either.
Any idea what to check next? I read so many varied things about Leopard and SMB not quite playing nice. People mentioning they had to go through all sorts of hurdles to get this working. Any advise is welcome.

Any news about this? I'm having the same problem trying to join a Vista box to the domain. Here are the logs:

  • Why does my music from one album show up as two separate albums: one with all the songs in it, and another with two or three. Why is it that when i delete the incomplete album it takes the same songs out of the complete album also?

When I first imported music from my CDs onto my iTunes library, all the songs appeared, but those with the album artist and guest/additional artists they appeared in their own album under the same album name. After searching through iTunes help and support, I learned how to put all the songs under the same album (part of a compalition) and add the additional songs information, artwork, lyrics, etc. After getting all the music (imported from my CDs) onto the iTunes library and in their album. I synced my music onto my iPhone. (My iPhone is a 3GS)
Once the music was on my iPhone i noticed that the albums appeared in 2s again. One was the complete album with all the songs, song info, etc. together (solo tracks and/or one with multiple artists) and another album of the same name, artwork, etc. with 2-4 of the songs from that album. Since all I saw need for was to have the completed album on my iPhone, I deleted the album with only 2-4 of the songs. When I went back and selected the completed album, all the songs I had deleted from the incomplete album were also deleted from the completed album too! I just couldn't figure out why it did that and my my friends with iPods and iPhones said they didn't know what caused it either. So now I'm here with the idea how to fix this problem.
If anyone has a solution to this problem, please reply. It will be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure why this happens, but I found a workaround. Below the album title it will list the artist(s). The issue seems to happen when there are multiple artists. For example, an Album titled "Over the Sea to Skye" has The Chieftains and James Galway as artists. Some tracks (for whatever reason) will list only one of these and result in the playlist showing what appears to be multiple albums. You can click on the artists and it will highlight. Paste in what is appearing on the other "albums" and it will then show as one:
Hope that is somewhat clear enough to help. Doesn't fix whatever the issue is but it is a workaround. For me this is only happening with CD's that I have imported.

  • Backups arent completing with error cant find folder or it does not exist

    Hello,
Lenovo X1 Carbon, windows 7 pro 64bit. Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256 GB SSD. No DVD player. 500 GB External USB 3.0 Hard drive.
My backups aren't completing while using Windows Backup and Restore (WBaR). It says it can't find a folder that doesn't exist on a drive that doesn't exist(e.g. 'D:\X1\Desktop\folder_name')  I have a ultrabook from Lenovo, there is no D: drive. there
is the C: Drive and the Lenovo Recovery drive (Q:). However, the folder name matches a folder that WAS on my desktop ('C:\[USER]\Desktop\folder_name')the first time that I used WBaR.
At first, I thought it was that folder, so I moved it to the Recycle bin. Then I tried moving it to a documents folder. Same error. So, then I thought it had to do with Carbonite and Dropbox. So I turned both of them off. No joy.
I tried searching for a folder named X1 using the command line. No luck.
I found this support article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979281, but none of these scenarios match mine. I have exhaustively searched for someone who had a problem with a Drive letter being assigned to Windows backup that doesn't exist on their
    computer. But no joy.
Can anyone help me? I don't think this is serious, but it is annoying, since WBaR doesn't list when my last backup was because of the problem. Plus, I'm worried about whether it will work when I need to recover files.
    Original title
"Windows Backup skipped D:\X1\Desktop\[folder] because it cannot be found on drive D:\." Drive D doesn't exist

    Hi,
Please turn off backup and turn on to relocate the backup place as your USB drive.
As I known, it's impossible to backup the files on the same partition, so C drive is system drive and impossible for your backup.
Post back your event log related to this issue here for our research.

  • Guest domain obp alias changed after upgrade to 1.0.3

    Hello all,
Recently upgraded from 1.0.1 to 1.0.3 (and firmware to 6.6.5) using the procedure at http://blogs.sun.com/jbeloro/entry/upgrading_from_ldoms_1_0. I found that my boot-device setting on all guest domains no longer worked. They were set to "boot-device=vdisk" however after the upgrade to 1.0.3 vdisk was no longer a valid device alias in the obp of the guest domain. The other device aliases (vdisk0, disk) were there and they worked fine. Anyone else seen this? Solution was simply to change the boot-device setting but I'm curious on the "why". Details below.

I don't have a pre upgrade devalias output but I do have the output from an eeprom command...
    root@itgsyddev57# grep boot-device eeprom.out
    boot-device=vdisk
    Thanks.

I think this because with LDoms 1.0.3, devalias are automatically created using names
you used to define your vdisk. So after the upgrade, devalias have probably been
wiped out and replaced with the ones automatically generated.

  • Cannot Print. "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable"

    Hi there
I cannot print and I have not been able to find the fix via existing forum threads.
    System:
Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit German - Profile language is Danish (installed a week ago and completely windows updated)
    Office 365 Small Business Premium
    HP DV8 Laptop. i7, 512GB SSD, 8GB RAM
    HP LaserJet P1006 USB printer.
    Problem
No matter if I try to print from IE, Notebook, Word 2013 or anything else, I cannot chose my printer (P1006).
If I try to Add Printer in Word 2013, I get the "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable" error.
In Devices and Printers, the P1006 is visible, but there is no driver installed.
Trying to install the correct driver:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3435683&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=3435682&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4063
only creates a general error during installation: "Printer  Software Installer has stopped working - A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows closes the program and will notify you if a solution has been found"
I have tried all the solution software from Windows, from HP (for the laptop and for the printer) - but nothing comes up with any details or suggestions.
    What should I try?
Absolutely everything else works perfectly on the system.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Troubleshoot-printer-problems
Fix printing problems by resetting the print spooler
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2000007
    2. Let us try updating the printer driver which might help you in resolving the issue.
Click on the link below for more information on updating the printer drivers.
    Find and install printer drivers
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Find-and-install-printer-drivers
    3. Remove the printer and add it again:
      Go to Control Panel
      Select Printers
      Right-click on Add Printer
      Select Run as Administrator
Now try to add your network printer

  • Does anyone know how to fix 'itunes could not backup the iphone an error occurred'?

Tried absolutely everything suggested to remedy this very annoying Iphone 4s backup problem, wish Apple would just get round to fixing the problem that a lot of people seem to have for some time now, 'iTunes could not backup the iPhone because an error occurred' refuse to part with £25.00 to be told they don't know how to fix or they are not aware of the problem being so talked about on their support communities. Please please help, its been 4 months now and I have tried absolutely everything out there.

You really tried EVERYTHING in that article? I'm impressed, it's a long list.
The most common cause is a currupt current backup. Deleting the current backup should fix it if that's the problem. You need to delete it in iTunes Preferences, Devices tab. But with Windows unfortunately that isn't always enough. You need to use Windows Explorer to make sure the backup is completely gone, as the system call that deletes a folder sometimes fails to delete it completely. So open Explorer and make sure it's gone, and if it isn't delete it using Windows. The location is:
    Windows Vista and Windows 7/8:  \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press the Return key.
There have also been reports that some apps prevent the backup from completing, probably because they create files that the backup program doesn't recognize. The most common offender reported is iZip.

  • I can only backup the datafiles but not the control files and SPFiles

    Hello, all,
I am using the Oracle 10g on a linux server which runs redhat 9. I want to backup the whole database to the disk, but not the flash recovery area. It is /rawdata. I will show how I configure the backup part in EM. Is there anything wrong?
    1. the ARCHIVELOG is on
    2. under Administration, in the All Initialization Parameters, I remove the string value of “log_archive_dest_1”. After that, I go to the SPFile and remove the string value of “log_archive_dest_1”
    3. configure backup settings and policies. The Disk Backup Location field is set to /rawdata. Select Image Copy for Disk Backup type. Test Disk backup is successful.
    4. go to Policy page. Select “Automatically backup the control file and server parameter file (SPFile) with every backup and database structural change.) input /rawdata into the filed: Autobackup Disk Location
Select “Optimize the whole database backup by skipping unchanged files such as read-only and offline datafiles that have been backed up”
Select “Retain backups that are necessary for a recovery to any time whin the specified number of days (point-in-time recovery)
    Accept the default of 31days
    5. go to Schedul Backup
    6. select customized from the backup Strategy drop-down menu. Select the Whole Database
    7. in the Options page, select “Full backup” in the Backup Type section. Select “Online Backup” in the Backup Mode section. Select “back up all archived logs on disk” in the Advanced section.
    8. in the Setting page, select “Disk”
    9. in the Schedule page, accept the default job name and description. Select Immediately to execute the job immediately.
    10. just submit the job.
After several minutes, the job is failed while the Prebackup and Postbackup are succeeded. The log says:

It seems the system tries to find a file “arch_D-ORCL10G_id-770753237_S-1062_T-1_A-586368151_cqhvf270” in /rawdata. I just can not understand.

the string value in the field of 'log_archive_dest_1" under "All Initialization parameters" is "LOCATION=+DATADG/orcl10g/". The same value was in the field under SPFile.
I reset these values and tried to backup the whole database. The same error appeared. The log says:

Why the system keeps trying to find files under /rawdata? It is the destination, not the source.
    Any help is appreciated!
