Backup Time Capsule to the Cloud?
I am looking for an option to backup my Time Capsule to the cloud. I have been manually backing this up to a USB drive and then placing it off site, but I would like to see if there is a less manual solution. I have looked at a LOT of backup software for the OS X and based on what I see most are designed to backup the machine, but not an external attached drive.

Suggest that you look at applications that are capable of backing up a network drive to another drive. That would be Chronosync or Carbon Copy Cloner.
Carbon Copy Cloner - Home
ChronoSync | Schedule File and Folder Synchronizations and ...
As you might imagine, the "free" or "demo" version of these applications will not provide the features that you need.
I'm not sure why anyone would want to backup their important or personal files to someone else's hard drive....but that is what you are doing when you backup to the "Cloud".

My os is 10.8.4. Airport Utility is 6.3. When I try to pull backups, time capsule says: 'The folder “Pictures” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents.'. So I cannot use Time capsule to back up so what gives?
Did you use migration assistant when you set up the computer?
TM will treat this as a different computer and permissions issues can arise from that.
Pondini is the expert on that stuff.. hopefully he can drop in.
But I recommend you read all the FAQ to do with restore.. Q14-17.
And then look at the permissions issues he lists in troubleshooting.

My 2 TB Time Capsule’s memory is full because it will notautomatically delete old files as it is supposed to, so it is giving me zerobackup of my two computers now. How can this be fixed so my Time Capsule deletes the old data and savesthe new?
Neither my local computer consultant nor I have been ableto change any of the settings in Time Machine to correct this problem. Working with the choices in the TimeMachine, there does not appear that there is any way to change the frequency ofthe backups either, so, after a year has elapsed, the time capsule is full, andmy only choice appears to be to erase all the current data on the Time Capsuleand start over, something that I do not want to at all let alone repeat on anannual basis. My questions are:
What can be done to have my Time Capsule delete old filesas it is supposed to do, so it has memory available to allow my computers toback up?
Is this a software problem that can be fixed online or isdoes this require a mechanical fix of defective hardware? How much data is being backed-up from each Mac? (see what's shown for Estimated size of full backup under the exclusions box in Time Machine Prefs > Options).
Is there any other data on your Time Capsule, besides the backups?
Most likely, there just isn't room. Time Machine may be trying to do a very large (or full) backup of one or both Macs, and can't. Since it won't ever delete the most recent backup, there has to be enough room for one full backup plus whatever it's trying to back up now, plus 20% (for workspace).

I keep getting this error when trying to backup time capsule with time machine. The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data-1/Dan’s iMac.sparsebundle” is already in use.
Make sure that no other Macs are backing up at the time.
Pull the power cable from the back of the Time Capsule
Count to ten
Plug the power cable back into the back of the Tme Capsule
Wait a few minutes, then try a backup again. -
I recently bought a new Time Capsule and the following message has started to show:-

I am getting this error when time machine tries to back up to a time capsule. "The backup disk image “/Volumes/JUDY ARCENEAUX's Time Capsu-1/JUDY ARCENEAUX’s MacBook Air.sparsebundle” is already in use." Same time capsule has worked in the past.
First, restart the computer and the Time Capsule. In most of the cases, this should solve the problem.

How do I correct the following problem?
"Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to "Robert's Airport Time Capsule".

My time machine / time capsule gets the error: The backup disk image could not be mounted.
Reboot the TC.
If you normally have multiple computers backing up, under Lion there seems to be some issues.. you need to force other users off the system. You can do that through the Airport utility, manual setup, disks, disconnect all users. Note carefully if you use Lion you probably need to download the real airport utility.. 5.6 to accomplish anything useful. -
I'm a first timer on this (or any) help site. I just installed Time Capsule. The first backup looks like it will take two days at the present speed. Can I close MacBook Pro and have first back up continue, and can I unplug tomorrow and plug in at work without affecting the backup?
Hi Oneinspirit,
Time Machine backups can be paused by choosing "Stop Backing Up" from the Time Machine icon on the right hand side of your menu bar ( ). Once you're ready to resume the backup, you can choose "Back Up Now" from the same icon.
Start a backup: Click the Time Machine icon in the menu bar, then choose Back Up Now.
Pause a backup: Click the Time Machine icon in the menu bar, then choose Stop Backing Up.

I used an ethernet cable between my iMac and Time Capsule for the initial backup. Now that initial backup is concluded, can I assume I can simply unplug the Time Capsule from my computer without any glitches and Time Capsule will then run wirelessly. Is this assumption correct?
can I assume I can simply unplug the Time Capsule from my computer without any glitches and Time Capsule will then run wirelessly. Is this assumption correct?
Yes, if the computer will be able to receive a strong wireless signal from the Time Capsule.
I did not disable wireless. So I assume the backups are occurring both with the ethernet and wirelessly.
It is inot possible to have both an "active" Ethernet and "active" wireless signal simultaneously. If an Ethernet connection is established, your computer will default to the Ethernet connection. If the Ethernet cable is unplugged, the computer will revert to the wireless connection.
I also show 2 wireless networks available through Airport. Shouldn't there only be one now?
You have a simultaneous dual band Time Capsule. That means that it will always be providing both a 2.4 GHz and a 5 GHz network.
I named my new network the same name as the old network. This enabled all of our devices to continue with their connection without entering the new network and/or passwords; however, I am afraid this may pose problems in the future somehow. Any input on this issue as well?
Things should be fine. Devices will connect to the best signal.....either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz....based on their capabilties and location in relation to the Time Capsule. -
Hi - I want to establish my Time capsule at the other end of the house, for security reasons. If a fire occurs at my computer, it is not much help if the backup is adjacent. From what I have read, the TC requires an ethernet connection to the outside world (which is where my computer is). I don't understand this; I think my wireless network (airport) should be able to handle backups, since it is capable of broadcasting video, which has a much higher transfer bit-rate. So, why can't I use Airport for my backups to Time Capsule?
- Thanks, GarethYou can absolutely back up to your time capsule via wifi. This is what the majority of people with a time capsule do. It connects to a modem or WAN access point via ethernet though.

The 2GB hard drive on my iMac failed and has just been replaced under warranty.
When I got it back I restored my Time Capsule and started back ups of the iMac and the MacBook Pro.
Now 2 days later it is telling me that Time Machine couldnt complete the back up to my Time Capsule as the backup disc image sparsebundle is already in use. It is saying this for both machines which presumably means a problem within the Time Capsule.
What does this mean and what should I do about it?See # C12 in Time Machine --- Troubleshooting
