Backup to different OS?

Hi,
We have a database running on AIX OS, but there is not enough space on this server for backup.
I want to do an on_line backup, and ftp the backup files to other server which is running on solaris.
AIX---ftp ---> Solaris.
Do you think the backup in solaris works for recovery or not?

Since you're storing the files there, it should be OK.I was wondering if the Solaris OS changed the format in the contents of files?
because we use
AIX---ftp backup to --> Solaris
then
Solaris ---ftp restore back --> AIX

    nas on airport extreme not recognized by time machine. same nas was previously used as time machine backup on different airport extreme. are there any configuration files that i can delete to fix this problem ?

    Time Machine has been working just fine, but in the last week or two it has given up the ghost. I reset the connections to the drive, and it will basically save a few bytes of data and then hang.
    Although Apple originally announced, prior to the release of the first 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Stations (AEBSn), that it would support Time Machine backups to AirPort Disks, they removed that option before they did finally release the base station for sale.
    Since then, Apple has posted (as you have noted) that they DO NOT support Time Machine backups to AirPort Disks. As far as I know, they have not changed from that position and those who do these backups find that they become corrupted over time. Sorry, but it sounds like you just confirmed that for yourself.
    1) Has one of the recent updates either on the AE (firmware) or OSX disabled this function?
    No. Again, this feature has never been supported by Apple for every generation of AEBSn released.
    2) Are there any changes I can make to get this working again?
    If your data backups are critical to you, then you will want to use a different solution for your Time Machine backup destination drive strategy. I would suggest that you connect your WD My Book directly to your Mac in the mean time.
    Your other options would be to either use a Time Capsule (which interestingly does support TM backups to AirPort Disks) or a non-Apple solution like the Drobo FS or HP MediaSmart server.

    When  making iCloud backups of different iOS - devices ( eg : in my case iphone , iPad-1 and iPad Air), are these. Backups individual for each device ?
    - Or is there only 1 Backup done ( for one device), and the rest written over ?
    Thx in advance

    There is a separat backup for each device.

    Hi George,
    According to your description, When you move a database from one server that is running SQL Server to another server that is running SQL Server, a mismatch may occur between the security identification numbers (SIDs) of the logins in the master database
    and the users in the user database. As other post, you can use the sp_change_users_login stored procedure to map SQL Server logins. Also , you can use the following statement after doing the restore database. It will
     fix the mis-mapped SID inside the restored DB.
    ALTER USER <username> WITH LOGIN = <username>

  • How to move Hyper-V virtual backups to different DPM server

    First off, I want to say that I've spent a large amount of time scanning the forums and internet for a solution to my problem with no luck. Here's the situation, as best as I can describe it:
    We currently have 2 2012 R2 DPM servers.  Let's call them DPM1 and DPM2.     DPM 1 was originally, before my employment here, setup as a primary DPM server backing up a Hyper-V HostServer1 (server 2012 R2) that had 4 virtuals
    on it.  DPM was setup to backup JUST the virtuals on HostServer1, nothing native on the host itself (files, etc.)
    At some point later on DPM2 Server was created, and I believe setup as a Secondary DPM server to DPM1.  (I'm not completely certain of this, as it does not appear to be setup that way now, but I can't tell for sure) but I believe it was because of the
    specific error I'm getting (more on that in a moment)
    We want to start backing up the virtuals that are on HostServer1 using DPM2, instead of DPM1.   Again, before I started here, the previously person removed all content from DPM1 (protection groups and replica's of the 4 virtual servers that were on
    HostServer1, and uninstalled the DPM1 client from HostServer1.
    Today I am attempting to add back protection of this HostServer1, but to DPM2.  I am able to successfully install the DPM client from DPM2 to HostServer1.   When I create a new protection group to DPM2, and navigated down the protection options,
    I can see the 4 virtuals running on HostServer1.    Here's the weird thing:
    I can ADD 3 of the 4 virtuals to the protection group without issue, and successfully back them up!   However, ONE virtual, when I check the box throws this error:
    "You have chosen to protect replicas on another DPM server (primary DPM server).   We recommend that you protect the DPM database of the primary DPM server along with the replicas.  Without protecting the DPM Database, you will not be able
    to recover the replicas of the primary DPM server in case of a disaster where the DPM Database and the replicas are lost."
    It then throws this error:
    "One or more of the selected data sources are already configured for protection on the primary DPM server.  When you switch back protection, the replicas of these data sources will be protected from the primary DPN server. (ID: 31162)"
    If I continue through the PG setup wizard, I see that under the PG game, the DPM1 server name listed, and then this one virtual listed underneath it and the replica shows "unable to configure protection."
    I have found numerous threads with this error, but the solutions (ranging from running PS scripts using Attatch-ProductionServer.ps1, to Remove-ProductionServer.ps1 from the primary DPM1 box, etc.) all have failed.   Some of these threads are similar
    it seems, to my issue, but most of the threads seem to be with an issue when the DPM client is on a protected server, instead of a Hyper-V box running off of a Hyper-V Host, as in my case.
    I am either barking up the wrong tree, or not implementing these available DPM PS scripts properly.  Can anyone assist me in pointing out what I might be doing wrong, or if that's not the issue, point me in the right direction?
    The odd thing here is that 3 of the 4 virtuals work fine when I moved them to DPM2.  Only one virtual (which doesn't have a DPM agent on it) throws this error.  Somehow, it's as if this particular .vhd has something tagged on it that's making DPM2
    think that it's being protected somehow, by DPM1, which is not, or no longer, the case.   If it was a DPMDB issue, why are 3 of the 4 other virtuals working fine?
    There may be missing information here that's causing this confusing; I'm not entirely sure all 4 were originally backed up by DPM1; but I *BELIEVE* they were.  it could be just the troublesome virtual was, not %100 certain of that.
    There has to be some way to clear out the reference to DPM1 from this HostServer1, virtual, or DPMDB right?  Wherever the issue lies?  I would think it's in one of those.
    We are not interested in having a Primary or Secondary server any longer, so if the fix somehow lies in clearing out all references the 2 DPM servers of "Primary vs. Secondary", that's fine too.  We want 2 separate DPM servers protection two
    different sets of Hyper-V hosts, unaware of each other.
    Any assistance would be much appreciated!

    Hi,
    See DPM 2012 content:  Unsupported Scenarios for DPM  under heading "Moving protected servers with DPM
    secondary servers"
    With that said, if you call support have the DPM engineer reference ID 2507990- they can assist in cleaning up the DPM2 database so VM's can be protected.

  • Daily Server 2012 backups to different drives

    We have a Windows 2012 server that runs AD and Hyper-V with 2 VMs. Total disk space is 2TB. We have 5x 2TB USB disks that are rotated daily from Monday to Friday. Currently I have a scheduled task that fires off a batch file with the following in it:
    wbadmin start backup -allcritical -systemstate -include:"c:" -backuptarget:E: -vssfull -quiet
    WSB backup performance is currently set to "Normal backup performance".
    The reason I went this route is because I had issues trying to get WSB to use all 5 drives in rotation through the GUI. Connecting all 5 drives at the same time when setting up the backup is just not feasible.
    When I initially configured the backup it ran fine for the first 2 weeks whereby the backups would take about 16 hours to finish which was fine (starting at 6pm and finishing around 10am the next day). For some reason now the backups are taking around 26 hours
    to finish which I don't understand as the size of the data hasn't changed much.
    I have now changed the performance to "Faster backup performance" but I'm not sure if it will work with the drives being changed daily as the comparison of say Monday's snapshot on the server will be different to the backed up data on Tuesday's drive.
    Or alternatively, if the comparison of changes is only done on the server and the differences are copied across, will it cause issues when trying to restore the backup?
    Basically what I need to achieve is:
    - The RPO is 1 day so that in the event of catastrophic failure we need to be able to restore the server completely to the previous day (obviously within reason of when the catastrophe occurred).
    - We need 5 days worth of backups from Monday to Friday.
    - Each drive is swapped out daily to be taken off site.
    If I need to look at doing a full backup every weekend and leaving a single drive connected for the week for "incrementals" then I can discuss that with the managers but that would change the RPO to the previous week instead of the previous day if
    the building burns down for example.

    Thanks for the feedback PrashKom. What difference will leaving out -backuptarget make? From what I can see at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc742083.aspx it is required to have that switch.
    Changing the backup performance doesn't seem to have made any difference in terms of the speed it takes as it is only on 68% complete 13 hours after starting.
    Do you think there will be any difference in changing from wbadmin start backup using task scheduler, to using wbadmin enable backup? I see in http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc742130.aspx that they have "wbadmin enable backup –addtarget:H:"
    but from my understanding is that setting the schedule will remove the drive letter and rename the drive like it does in the GUI.

  • To restore backup on different host using RMAN

    Hi All,
    Friend I need your help once again. I want to restore my database from the past backup to new HOST by keeping the original database intact using RMAN. Let me explain the scenario:-
    Databas Version - 8.1.7
    OS - Solaris 5.8
    We are using RMAN with Tivoli as third party media management. I just need to restore the database from this tape library using RMAN with recovery catalog on new server. The only doubt I have is how I will make the backups of the production database whose backup has to be restored available on the new host where I have to create new database.
    I will be using different file structure for the newly restored database. Do I have to create TDPO files seperately on the server on which I have to restore the database.
    Please reply asap.
    Regards
    Harpreet Singh

    You need to create a tdpo.opt file of source on the destination database. Then, allocate channel using this TDPO_OPTFILE and recover database.

  • Recovering a datafile from backup in different server

    Hi All,
    I usually take hot backup of datafiles to different server like this because i dont have enough space in same server. I
    SQL> alter tablespace XXXX begin backup;
    host scp /bu1/oradaTA/XXXXX/XXXXX [email protected]:/db1dw/oradata/backup/dec2010/XXXX
    alter tablespace OPS end backup;
    If i want to recover the datafile can i normally do the offline drop of that datafile and copy the datafile from backup which is in differnet server thorugh scp and make the datafile online??? and the database is in archivelog mode but i dont care abt the log files. i just need to recover the datafile as it was from last backup.
    or do we need to use any recover datafile commands?? if need to use any recover datafile command from where it will recover the datafile??
    i dont have any scripts for backup or recovery , i just take manual scp of the datafiles.
    Help plzz, thanks in advance.....

    SQL> alter tablespace XXXX begin backup;
    host scp /bu1/oradaTA/XXXXX/XXXXX [email protected]:/db1dw/oradata/backup/dec2010/XXXX
    alter tablespace OPS end backup;What is the version you are using? is it 9i if not you can peform backup at database level instead of tablespace level.
    If i want to recover the datafile can i normally do the offline drop of that datafile and copy the datafile from backup which is in differnet server thorugh scp and make the datafile online??? and the database is in archivelog mode but i dont care abt the log files. i just need to recover the datafile as it was from last backup.Why offline drop to recover? Are you sure what are you doing?
    or do we need to use any recover datafile commands?? if need to use any recover datafile command from where it will recover the datafile??1) alter system switch logfile;
    2) select max(sequence#) from v$archived_log;
    For Ex:
    Sequence -- 100
    3) alter database begin backup;
    4) copy all the datafiles to another server(bcoz you not have space in same server)
    5) alter database end backup;
    6) select max(sequence#) from v$archived_log;
    For Ex:
    Sequence -- 110
    Then copy these generated 10 archives to new server also.

  • Spfile restore from RMAN Tape backup to different server

    Hi All,
    First of all let me thank you to the forum from which I keep updating my knowledge on oracle.
    I am having issues when trying to restore spfile from controlfile autobackup to different server. Problem and other details are below:
    Target version : 10.2.0.2
    Netbackup : 6.5.6
    Taken the tape backup through rman on server ABC and trying to restore the spfile from controlfile autobackup to server XYZ. Tape backup has been taken today morning and trying restore now.
    Both servers ABC and XYX have been added (as clients) to netbackup policy.
    Below is the syntax I used for restoring spfile and getting error as mentioned.
    RMAN> run {
    2> set controlfile autobackup format for device type 'SBT_TAPE' to '%F';
    3> allocate channel ch00 device type 'sbt_tape'
    4> parms='ENV=(NB_ORA_SERV=Mediaserver,NB_ORA_CLIENT=XYZ)';
    5> restore spfile to pfile '/oracle/product/10g/dbs/inittest.ora' from
    6> autobackup maxseq 5 maxdays 3;
    7> }
    executing command: SET CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT
    allocated channel: ch00
    channel ch00: sid=36 devtype=SBT_TAPE

    Not sure where I am doing wrong. The same can be restored onto same host (I.E ABC) without any issues .
    Request your help and guidance.
    Thanks,
    SSS

    I don't know whether you can restore to a different server. The easier way should be
    RMAN> restore spfile to pfile 'YOUR_PFILE_NAME' from autobackup;
    then copy this to the new host.
    Check this link
    restore spfile to another host
    Hope this helps

  • Backup set different than volume - do I need to care?

    New to external hard drive back ups. Using an external Iomega firewire hard drive and Retrospect. The Iomega came with its backup software and Retrospect. Question 1: Does this mean the mac does not use the iomega software?
    Tried my very first backkup and got 2 execution errors. Retrospect says just look at the operations log and "act accordingly". What does this mean? My error messages:
    File "SystemEntropyCache": different modification date/time (set: 3/17/2006 7:32:54 PM, vol: 3/17/2006 9:32:55 PM), path: "Macintosh HD/private/var/db/SystemEntropyCashe".
    File "cron.pid": different data size (set: 3, vol: 4). Path: "Macintosh HD/private/var/run/cron.pid".
    Question 2: What actions should I take to "act accordingly"?
    3rd question: Was told by Techtool Pro that the e-drive source volume has an invalid/unsupported partition header type probably because there is a problem in the partition map. Meaning that either the drive was repartitioned using a not fully OS X compatible uitilty. So they recommended I back up the drive and then reinitialize it using disk Utility. This is why I got an external hard drive. What is the simplist way to create a total backup of everything on my computer so that I can easily "put it back" after I reinitialize?

    Easiest way is to use SuperDuper!

  • HT1620 How to backup in different iClound address

    How to backup contact, photo, notes, mail, calendar to different  iClound

    If you want to be able to send via two different addresses and these addresses are separate accounts then the normal method is to add both accounts as separate accounts like you have. This however as you found means messages are stored separately under each account although Apple do also provide a merged view of both Inboxes as an option.
    However from your post it seems the better way to achieve what you want would be as follows.
    Delete the other email account leaving just the iCloud one
    Edit the iCloud account settings
    In the field where you enter the email address and where it currently only has the iCloud email address add the second email address as well and seperate the two with a comma so that it looke like
              [email protected], [email protected]
    This will let you chose which address to send from.
    Note: This spoofing can cause some mail servers to consider your emails to be spam since you will be using a from address that does not match the iCloud account.

  • Restore Time Machine backup from different computer?

    I'm going to put a new HD in my MacBook Pro.
    Once I've done it will it be possible to restore my user folder, applications etc. from a different computer's (Power Mac) Time Machine backup?

    Thanks again Joe.
    One last question. Once I've transferred my files from the Power Mac's Time Machine disk could I select that disk in MacBook Pro's Preferences as it's Time Machine backup disk?
    (Effectively stop using it as the Power Mac's backup disk & continue using it as the MacBook Pro's backup disk).
    Backing up new files on the MacBook Pro to the disk, but still be able to 'go back in time' & restore files from the Time Machine disk (backup up over time on the Power Mac).

  • How to store System backups of different Macs/OSX versions on one ext. disc

    What is the best way/software to create and store backups/clones of several different Macs on one external hard drive? The Macs are different models (iMac, G5) and use different versions of OS X.
    I read the instructions for Carbon Copy Cloner and Super Duper and they require to erase everything on the disc, so I can't store them all on one Volume, as the new one would erase the others. Do I have to create several Volumes/partitions on one hard drive?
    Thanks for your time!

    Hi Noriker and a warm welcome to Discussions.
    The best would be to partition the drive into the requisite number of volumes. When CCC or SD erases before beginning the copy, only the volume will be erased. Use Disk Utility to partition the drive.

  • Backup with different Apple ID

    Help!
    M wife has a different applet id for her and her devices. When we back up to to the same computer, even though she logs in with her Apple ID here ibooks is mixed in with mine. I checked destination file and it all goes to iTunes media file.
    I Just need separate iTunes back up.
    Any suggestions? Without backing up to a different computer? I'm using windows.

    You could set up separate libraries, or separate profiles on the same computer, or she could switch to iCloud for backup.
    See How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer.
    Personally I'd stick with the one library and make sure neither of your devices automatically adds new content. That way everything gets backed up and you can still share what you want to without undue duplication.
