Backup to Disc...

When using Backup to Disc..., iTunes automatically selects my CD drive. How can I change this to use my DVD?

Yes!  It seems that Apple decided to eliminate the possibility of anyone backing up their ITunes library by CD or DVD.  If someone wants to get their complete ITunes library transferred to a new pc.........OH YAH!  You can't do that anymore!
Very simple.
Network the computers, use your backup or use an external drive.
you have to go out and my more Apple products to be able to transfer th files that you already own.
Which Apple products can you purchase to do this?
If anyone knows an easy way for me to get my ITunes to my new pc could they please let me know!   Thanks
Network the computers, use your backup or use an external drive.
Copy the entire /Musci/iTunes folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer.
Launch iTunes.
That is all you need to do.

Some of us have our enture itunes library backed up on CD/DVD - what a waste of time and effort as now presumably you can't use these discs to restore itunes on a new computer! WHY NOT APPLE?
Very unimpressed with itunes 10.5/ios5 - wifi tracking apps have been removed from the store (and won't function in ios5), it's impossible to sync photos (I have spent a whole day trying to sync my iphone 3GS with itines 10.5) to no avail and now, no CD backup facility.
I have never had problems with apple before - I was thinking of upgrading my whole system from PC to Mac but now I am doubtful - if this is typical of apple software, I will stay with windows!

  • In PS 9, can I backup to disc and keep the pix separated by file name?

In the past, my backups to disc just result in a mass of pictures that are not separated by file name and haven't retained their numerical designation.
It would be much more useful if this could be done.
Is there a way of doing this in PS 9?

Then you might want to post in the appropriate Forum.

  • ITunes Backup to Disc never works for me

    Hi there,
For months I've been trying to use the Backup To Disc feature since iTunes 7.0 but I never can get passed the Please Insert a Blank Disc.
    http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/9322/itunesbackupneverworksbp4.jpg
It rejects every DVD I put. Is there a specific brand or type of DVD-R/DVD+R I should try?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Backup To Disc using iTunes not working

When I Backup to Disc (DVD) using the Backup in iTunes I have 150 purchased songs and 2 audio books. Only twenty two items are going to the disc. A few folders for example: Fleetwood Mac has 4 songs in it but the total sum comes no where to the total of 150 songs nor are either of the audio books saved to disc.
Thanks in Advance for any help
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I was prompted to do an iTunes backup last night after buying an album. I got a message saying the backup failed, so I replaced the DVD and choose retry.
This seemed to be successful and I was asked to insert disk after disk after disk (I have over 20 GB of media in iTunes!). But I then noticed it seemed to be burning the same last few files over and over. So I eventually cancelled the backup (after disk 11!)
So although the backup seemed to work (the disks were correctly formatted), it's a bit buggy, and not sure I'll use this method for backing up until the bugs are fixed.
Not sure this helps you, but at leastyou know you're not the only one with problems.

  • Does iMovie 08 have a Backup to Disc feature like iTunes?

Does iMovie 08 have a Backup to Disc feature like iTunes? This way you could back up your entire Movie Library by feeding it discs, and then periodically only backup what has changed since the last backup? Does iPhoto 08 have this feature as well?
    Thanks. Red

Does iMovie 08 have a Backup to Disc feature like iTunes?
    no.
    videos usually have 13GB/h .. HiDef 40-50GB/h ..
if you want a backup of your Movies Library, consider the usage of a huge external, firewire connected harddrive (MacOsExtended formatted) ...
    .. I mean huge.. really huge ..
    ... have I used the word homeserver? CubePro? ... no, I haven't !!

  • 'Backup to Disc' feature missed 11 songs

    Hi people,
I have a collection of 4500 songs which I have backed up to 9 DVDs using the new 'Backup to Disc' option in iTunes 7. However, after burning all the discs, I checked the total amount of files across all 9 DVDs and I came to a total of 4489 songs. SOMEWHERE iTunes has lost 11 songs.
Does anyone know why this might happen and how can I find out which ones are missing?
    Thanks

Hi Robert. At the risk of being censured for speculating there are a couple of ways at looking at this. The "Apple are evil" crowd will tell you that backup to disc was removed to push people into buying into iTunes Match but another way of looking at it is that they have simply removed an outdated and inefficient feature that most users haven't taken advantage of anyway. Apple have also been renegotiating their arrangements with rights holders so that most purchases can now be redownloaded on demand, so there is less reason for them to have a feature primarily introduced to ensure that you backup your purchases. (Note you get reminded to backup after buying from the iTunes store, not when adding new media from other sources.)
My guess is that the "my computer crashed and I don't have a backup" posts outnumber the "where's my backup feature gone?" ones by at least a thousand to one. I've also seen the "my DVD backup set won't work" ones too. Newer computers are being made without optical drives. And of course everyone should know by now that they need to backup their data. Why include an feature to redundantly backup a subset of data that should already be being managed elsewhere?
Long before the backup to disk feature was withdrawn I was recommending the utility I suggest in this User Tip. It does the job of working out which new or changed files need backing up. By making a full file by file copy of your library should the worst occur and your primary drive fails you can hook up to a fully working copy of your library and have access to it instantly. If you just need to recover a song or album deleted in error then this is trivially easy with this type of backup, but almost impossible to do from a spanned DVD set without restoring everything. And the same tool can be used for backing up other stuff you should be backing up.

  • Installing windows 7 on new SSD with no backup or disc

    Hi,
My toshiba c660d-1c6 recently crashed big time!
Won't boot at all, hdd (320GB)  seems to have died.
Just get a windows boot manager message saying that its encountered a problem, unexpected error etc.
Can't do a hdd recovery and it won't go into the repair menu (F8).
I am therefore looking at replacing it with a new ssd, but how easy will I be able to install windows 7 once I get this new ssd? Could I get a 120GB ssd and use it in my laptop?
I don't have any backups or discs to use, only my win 7 product key on the underside of the laptop.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

If you failed to burn them, you can obtain recovery discs from Toshiba. You can use those to restore to any internal drive.

  • I can no longer find backup to disc

Last night I was able to backup.  I updated to the newest version of iTunes last night, and now the backup option is no longer under library.  Any idea what may have happened, and where I go now to backup to a disc?

Apple removed it in iTunes 10.4. Use other backup methods, such as dragging the iTunes library to an external drive manually.

  • Backup to Disc Problem

Has anyone encountered problems in iTunes 7 when trying to backup your entire library to blank CDs? It instructs me to insert a blank CD when the previous one is full, but then crashes, not finishing the backup job! Please help!

Well, I may have some help to others. I spent a total of about three hours at the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store here in Seattle. What a GREAT service! Most of the work at the bar I did was on my own, but the guy who was helping me would check in every once in a while to see how it was going and answer questions. They are normally limited to 15-minute appointments. He started out by reseting my firmware that addresses my harddrive. I'm sorry I can't provide those instructions, or I'd be working at the Genius Bar. I can tell you the work is done in the "Console" utility on a Mac in OS 10.4.8 It did not look like the kind of thing I'd be comfortable with fooling around with myself, but for those of you more binarically gifted folks, have at it. That seemed to somehow do the trick. At first it gave me the same initial disk-rejection, but upon clicking "Next" which would normally crash the program, it took in the next disc and started burning it. It was in sequence to what I had already completed, and the laptop continued to burn discs after that. I've been able to continue my burn with the better Taiyo Yuden DVD-R media. It still spits out the cheap Taiwan-made Memorex stuff to use as coasters for drinks (I tried a couple in the mix to check). Overall, the problem had several of the Genius's (is that the correct plural?) pretty baffled. They did check their extensive database for any similar problems or bugs with 7.0.2 and could find none. The error message that was coming up in mine was -8785, which is an unknown error for which they could find no further useful information. I've been sucessfully burning the remainder of my library on TY media without a hiccup. No crashes, no bad burns.
So if you have an Apple Store nearby, you may want to try that route. It worked for me. If you know the procedure to reset the firmware on your burner, try that and see if it solves the problem.

  • Backup to disc issues?

In iTunes 7, there's an option to "Back Up To Disc". After choosing this option to backup my entire library, I discovered the CDs did not contain all my music.

  • Time machine backup blocked; disc image sparse bundle needs ejecting

Team, I cannot backup to 2Tb time machine; error message as above. How do I 'eject' this disc image and what exactly is it?
    Thanks
    Nick B

OK, we fixed this for now with the simple, but common Mac way of
    throwing something in the trash.
In this case it seems to be a temporary network connection to the remote Time Machine partition. When Time Machine balks, the icon for the temporary mount gets stuck on the Desktop. We threw it in the trash (unmounting it) and then Time Machine can resume.
Apple networking is annoying, but then on the other, it's easy. We lose printing in a similar way.
Anyway, although we seem to be OK, I'd like to understand this a bit better. I can see in the "/Volumes" folder (in Terminal) three Time Machine mounts, not one as I would have expected, and they all appear to point to the same place:
    drwx------   9 root                   wheel  264   Jun 22 10:23 TM-2
    drwx------   9 root                   wheel  264  Jun 22 10:23 TM-1
    drwx------   9 MYUSERNAME  staff   264 Jun 22 10:23 TM
On the remote machine, the disc TM appears only once.
If you look at the listing of all three, they are identical. What gives?
Is this a consequence of the fact that we are putting the time machine backups on a remote machine (that is not a Mac OS server). We have to mount the remote disc before Time Machine will run, but from that point it works perfectly -- or as perfectly as any mac networking thing seems to work.
