Backup to optical device

I have trying to back up iTunes purchases to optical drive, specifically, CDs. Just in case phone is stolen  or lost & as a precaution because of some issues with my PC.
I'm using iTunes 10.   I printed the instructions to backup to disc:   File>library>'back up to disc'.  Well, when I go to File>library>...there is no 'back up to disc'.  Under library, my only options are:  organize library, export library, import playlist, export playlist.
The instructions for back up were gotten from the iTunes 10 for Windows support page, from Apple; not a third party and not from general conversation.  In fact, on the page it states that the page was updated Oct, 11, 2011.
Have I missed something or did the latest OS update automatically make the instructions obsolete and therefore wrong?

Do backup to localdisk, then use ftp to upload the backupset to remote server.
Very cheaper :)

I thiunk the graphic card is defective and need to run hwt

    You don't.
Need a internal optical drive and the Hardware Test on disks is old and outdated anyway.
Your machine has lasted a long time, congratulations, they usually only last about 4-5 years.
They get clogged up with dust and overheat, kills the video card, there is nothing you can do as it's hardware damage over time.

  • Setup Time Machine Backup To Multiple Devices

I currently have a Time Capsule and I let Time Machine run it's regular back ups. What would I have to do if I wanted to run a manual backup once a month to another drive/device? Can this be done, or would I need to use another backup program/method to do a monthly backup to another device/drive?
I know that Time Machine does a monthly, I'd just like have a 2nd backup. Thanks!

All you have to do is format the other drive properly, then go to TM Preferences > Change Disk and select the alternate. The first backup to it will be a full one, of course, so quite lengthy.
Then to switch back to the TC, just use +Change Disk+ again. The only caution is, if you go several days (over 10) between backups on the alternate, TM may, depending on the volume of changes, do another full backup the next time.
Both sets of backups will be independent and complete, but have different "snapshots" of your system.
I know that Time Machine does a monthly, I'd just like have a 2nd backup. Thanks!
That's not exactly true. TM does hourly backups, then "thins" them out, keeping one per week as long as there's room; the first of each day for a month; all others for 24 hours. But they're all done in exactly the same way, and each is a full picture of your system.
An alternative, that many of us do, is to make a full "bootable clone" with CarbonCopyCloner, SuperDuper! or the like, in addition to full TM backups. These have advantages and disadvantages vs. Time Machine, and for those of us who think that Murphy was an optimist, it's always good to have a second, independent backup. It's a bit safer to use a separate disk for these, but you can also use a separate partition on the same disk.
One thing you might consider is getting a portable external for the "clone," and taking it to your safe deposit box, workplace, relative's house, etc., so you're also protected from fire, flood, theft, direct lightning strike, etc.

  • Even though iOS cannot restore backups of newer devices, can it restore data from an older device using 7.1.2 to a newer device using iOS8

iPhone 4s 16GB running iOS 7.1.2. Even though iOS cannot restore backups of newer devices, can it restore data from an older device using 7.1.2 to a newer device using iOS8

    Hi ,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you cannot use your Wi-Fi after the latest update to your iPhone 4s. I know you have already done some great troubleshooting by restoring with iTunes but the Wi-Fi becomes unavailable very quickly after you set it up. Go ahead and set up the iPhone so you can get into the Setting and then follow the steps provided in the attached article.
iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1559
         Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Restart your iOS device.
Make sure that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
Make sure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.
If you complete all of these steps and still are not able to access the Wi-Fi, it may be necessary to follow the link at the bottom of the page and contact Apple Support.
    Have a great day,
    -Joe

  • Can I delete old backups from other devices if my new iphone 6 has a current backup with everything on my new phone?

Can I delete old backups from other devices if my new iphone 6 has a current backup with everything on my new phone?

    Hi there dyarrell,
You can do this if you are confident that your current device has all of the data on it that you want to keep. The method for deleting the backup will be differnt depending on the backup method. Take a look at the articles below for more information.

  • HT4859 I forgot to click Restore from iCloud Backup on new Device.

I forgot to click Restore from iCloud Backup on new Device, and then signed in on the Cloud with the same Apple ID I used to create the Cloud on my old iPhone.  Can i still access my CLoud backup for apps, photos, etc.?

You'll have to start over by going to Settings>General>Reset and tapping Erase All Content and Settings.  Then go back through the setup screens again and this time choose Restore from iCloud backup (see image below).  Note: your iCloud account and iCloud data will still be in your account and will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.  You also may want to connect your device to your charger as restoring from backup can take some time to complete.

  • How do i erase a corrupt contact list from iCloud,iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro and restore Address Book backup to all devices and cloud?

how do i erase a corrupt contact list from iCloud,iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro and restore Address Book backup to all devices and cloud?
I saved a corrected, most up to date version of my master Address Book Contacts as a back-up on my Mac Book Pro.
then in an effort to "simplify my life"  i attempted to sync my I phone contacts - ( pre clean-up version) with my clean list on Mac Book Pro, New I pad and newly available icloud. DUH!! Using iTunes to do the sync caused the clean MacBOOK Pro list to be commingled with the dirty iphone contacts. amd now the whole mess is in the cloud.
I need to clear out the contaminated lists from all iplaces, and startover with Back-up on my macbook pro. BUT HOW???
    Help
    Karen

I had exported an address book backup: abbu
so since i wrote, i have found my way into the cloud: selected all entries - deleted them all from the cloud.
This wiped out contacts on my iphone and i pad, and MBP, as well as on the cloud.  I then imported the abbu back into my now empty address book.
To repopulate the crowd, i selected all in my address book and created a single card vCard for export to my desktop.  I then dragged that vcard into my empty cloud.  Now my cloud has the same clean contacts as my MBP addressbook.  The cloud then pushed the clean contacts into my empty ipad and iphone contacts.
I had to go back to Address Book>preferences>Accounts and Add an I cloud account - but if you accidentally create a second i cloud account - all of a sudden your address book will duplicate itself.  I quickly reversed it by deleting one of the icloud accounts in my Address Book>preferences>Accounts.
I created a new entry on my MBP and it is now on all devices and in cloud
I also created a new entry on my iPhone and it is now in the address book on my MBP.
    I feel empowered!!
    Have i missed anything??

  • How to backup a character device on a sun 7310 with NDMP

I have seen in the latest fishwork release notes, that its possible to use NDMP to backup block/character devices (6940623).
We use NetBackup dose any one know what to specify in the backup selection list?

We have many iSCSI/FC Luns setup in our 7310, and I was thinking that direct 7310 NDMP backups would be faster then client side FC/iSCSI backups.
We also have NFS file systems with millions of files, which now takes about 10 hours to backup. if a block level backup is possible it should be much faster. (I am looking for something seemlier to netbackup flashback).

  • 3 Optical Devices in one RIG

For the first time in my life, I have 3 optical devices in my PC. A Samsung CD Recorder, a Samsung DVD Recorder and an MSI DVD Reader. The BIOS see the 3 units, but Windows does not see the MSI DVD Reader.
I have the HDD and the MSI DVD connected to the IDE 1, and the other 2 optical devices connected to IDE 2.
Do you know if this is a Microsoft Windows -XP- limitation -to have 3 optical devices-, or if there is another kind of problem?.
    Thanks!.

    Hi there:
    It shouldn't be a problem.
You mentioned that you have the HDD and the MSI DVD drive connected to the primary channel (IDE 0) BUT you didn't mentioned who's the master and who's the slave and what type of IDE cable are you using with your drives.
Please, tell us more about your system config (give FULL system specs including PSU specs).
    Edyros!

  • How to restore backup from different device

Hallo... seems I have problem with downloading backup from my older ipad mini (16gb) into newer ipad mini retina (32gb)... during the first setup it aksed me if I want to restore backup from older device, but since my older ipad and its backup was on ios 8.0.2 and newly purchased ipad was still on 7.1.2 i needed to skip this and upgrade os first. now I have new device set up and running ios 8 but I can not get into it backup from older device. what to do?

Resetting the iPad back to factory defaults should take you to the setup process and let you restore to an iCloud backup : Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings
Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes :
You can go through the iOS Setup Assistant again by erasing all the content on the device. Just tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. This will remove all content from your device, so do this only if you already have a backup. The iOS Setup Assistant is the only way to restore a backup.

  • Sgen driver doesnt' find SATA optical devices

We have a PC (HP Elite Book 8730W notebook) running Solaris 10 U8 (x64) and the sgen driver will not find our optical recorder (HP DVD RW AD-7581S) that is attached to a SATA port. Every other x64 PC with SATA optical devices that we have works just great with the sgen driver, but for some reason this PC just won't. The sgen driver does not create any device nodes under /dev/scsi/rodirect for this PC like it does on our other PC's. We can access the recorder via /dev/rdsk, however we need non-root access to the device and therefore we need the sgen driver to work with it. Can anyone give me any tips?
    Our device-typeconfig-list:
    device-type-config-list="direct", "sequential", "worm", "rodirect", "optical", "changer";
All the [name="sgen" class="scsi" target=0 lun=0... ] lines at the bottom are uncommented. This same sgen config file works great on every other PC, just not this particular model PC. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the replies, I remember reading the post where I found all the tweaking tutorials and the author mentioning that he used static /dev devices but I didnt know that it was necessary if youre removing udev. I'm assuming that static /dev devices arent necessary if you remove udev but keep the stock arch kernel because I did so with my first successful setup where I removed the udev hook and any other unused hooks and everything worked fine.
I believe that I did remove ide-pci-generic at one point and it didnt seem to fix anything, probably because of the dynamic (?) devices and scsi not existing in hooks.
Ill try these out and post the outcome.

  • How can I apply a backup of one device to a different device?

    Hello,
This past week, my phone "fell" and the screen broke beyond all repair. And I'm not talking about a crack...I'm talking about a huge crack as well blue lines being displayed whenever I hit the home button. Other than that, the phone still works. It charges, it syncs, it vibrates when I get calls or messages but I can't see anything on the screen. I know that I can still unlock though. I managed to backup my pictures directly onto my Mac using iPhoto. Besides my pictures and Calendar dates, there wasn't much that I cared for within the actual phone.
I went to my local phone service provider place and they told me that since my phone was a 4S and was covered for damage, I could send it to Apple in exchange for a new phone. I already contacted them and received my new 5C. Now, I'm not really worried about the pictures because they're already in my computer; I'm worried about all the Calendar dates that are in my broken 4S. Yes, I did do a backup AFTER it fell so I have a backup ready. But the thing is that I do not wish to sync this onto my new 5C just for the calendar dates.
I have an old iPod 4th Generation that I'm willing to use to restore with the backup of my 4S but I don't know how to do that. I was hoping that I could apply the backup of my 4S onto my iPod and then manually enter all the dates that I needed onto my 5C
If anyone knows how I can access these dates in any way, shape, or form, it would be greatly appreciated.
Oh and I don't think I ever used iCloud for my calendar so that's just a huge setback, huh?

Yes, you can restore the iPod Touch from the iPhone backup, provided the iPod Touch's iOS is the same or better than that of the iOS that was on the iPhone.  Example: If you had your iPhone updated to iOS 7.1.1 when you backed it up, your iPod Touch will need iOS 7.1.1   Currently only the 5th Gen iPod Touches can receive this version of iOS.  4th Gen and prior cannot update to iOS 7.
The following article shows limitations when going from iPhone/iPod Touch to iPad or vice versa.  The iPhone and iPod Touch are essentially identical with the minor exception of the phone app.  They still have all the contacts apps, etc.
    iTunes: About iOS backups
Only app data from App Store apps and sync settings will be restored to your device when you do the following:
Restore your iPad from an iPhone or iPod touch backup.
Restore your iPhone or iPod touch from an iPad backup.

  • How do I save multiple backups for one device in iTunes?

Hey, I manage multiple iPads here at my school and had a question about iTunes backup. We want to have multiple backups from the past for each device so that we can restore the device from an old backup if something goes wrong. We have over 180 iPads so I need something quick and automated. Any ideas?
We are also using a Mac Server if that helps any.

Since what we're really talking about now is a script to basically rename files you might want to ask on a more specific Applescript or automator forum. Alternatively, perhaps one of the utilities below might suffice.

  • TS4036 icloud backup to new device is not working as says I dont have enough storage, even although the backup is only 3GB out of my 5GB (giving more than 1GB available!)???

back up from icloud to new device is not working as it is saying that I dont have enough storage, when I am only trying to use 3GB out of my 5GB allowance???

I may misunderstand your post - you "backup TO icloud" or restore from icloud to a new device.  Not sure which of these you mean.
If backing up TO icloud, the problem may be that there's not enough storage on your device, not icloud, as a device needs a good bit of storage to create the backup.
If restoring from icloud to a new device and you get the error, the storage referenced must be that on the device, although that doesn't seem possible, since a device has more memory than 5GB.
