Backups after downgrading?

I'm planning on downgrading my phone back to the 1.1.4 from 2.0.2.
(I've had numerous issues with the software update crippling the basic functionality of the phone, this, coupled with frequent crashes has made me unhappy with the current version of the 2.0 software)
I know where to get the old firmware and the process to install it... My only question is; when I revert to the old firmware, will the backup of my texts and things like that follow? I know the text backup works when going forward, my only concern is that I'd lose all of my SMS stuff during the downgrade.
Has anyone done this already? Did the backup work?
Thanks in advance.

You also have a etherchannel configured on your nexus 5K, isn't it right?
Take a look at the logging messages and try to find a MAC_FLAPPING message related to the servers MAC addresses.
Also check out this bug: https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCuf65032.
It was corrected on the version 2.22(1b) (your old one), but it may be back on the 4.0(1b).
Try to apply the workaround suggested and see if it works.
Cheers,
Kauy Gabriel.

  • Cannot turn on icloud backup after downgrade to iOS 7.1.2

I own an iPhone 4S which I upgraded to iOS 8 on 21st September. The iphone and most of applications (even phone) crashed all the time so I decide to downgrade to 7.1.2 after following instructions found in these communities. I did it just yesterday.
Now I cannot turn on iCloud Backup to my iPhone. The iCloud drive of course disappeared from Settings > iCloud, however it's still visible when I access the iCould in web. Moreover in iCloud web interface my iPhone appears as running iOS 8 and X Yosemite which is not true. My iPhone has 7.1.2 iOS.
I tried to erase my iPhone and restore it from a backup I made yesterday but I have the same issue: iCloud could not be enabled. It was enabled finally after hard reset but when I select "Backup now" the app crashes and throw me in the Home Screen. I see a message: this iPhone has never been backed up on iCloud and the last backup could not be completed.
Please help!!!!!! I want to be able to have iCloud Backup (most important settings and contacts, sms etc.) as I did usually before upgrading to iOS 8 and downgraded to 7.1.2.

    Hello,
Been experiencing the same problem, finally fix it by deleting your old iCloud backup from iOS 8.
Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage > Click on your device name > Scroll down to bottom > Delete this backup.
Then try to turn on the iCloud Backup setting toggle again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is it possible to downgrade to mountain lion with the help of a time machine backup after having updated to Mavericks?

Is it possible to downgrade to mountain lion with the help of a time machine backup after having updated to Mavericks?

Just to be clear, if by downgrade you mean uninstall, then the answer is technically, no.
You can't uninstall an OS. You can erase and re-install the old OS, but if you don't have a prior backup of your data, you'll lose it during the erase procedure.

  • Getting SMS back after downgrading?

    Hi
I upgraded my Iphone 3G (not jailbroken) to IOS4. I did not back up the phone before upgrading. The upgrade itself went well and Itunes did a backup of the phone AFTER the upgrade.
Turned out that my phone didn't work to well with the IOS4. It was generally slow and froze and returned to the Home screen after a while whatever I did. So, I wanted to go back to the old OS 3.1.3. After surfing the net I found out how. I managed to downgrade the phone.
Here's the problem. The backup which contains all my data, SMS etc. is made for IOS4 and cannot be used for 3.1.3. I have the backup folder containing everything but it's for the new OS.
Is there any way to work around this? I have tried to copy the SMS-file from the IOS4 backup folder to the 3.1.3 backup folder (that I created after downgrading), but it seems that the strings (or whatever they're called) are different so it does not work.
Is there a program that can extract my SMS'es while the phone is upgraded to IOS4 and put them back into the phone after it's been downgraded to 3.1.3?

You can download all the files that are originally on the recovery partition of  MBP that came with Lion pre-installed from the Apple website. Sorry I don't have a link but a google search will turn it up. With that download you can make a bootable USB stick that will get you to the screen where you download and install Lion from the Apple website.
Or you can buy Lion on a USB stick from the Apple Store.

  • Iphone stuck in emergency mode after downgrade from 4.0.2 to 4.0?

iphone stuck in emergency mode after downgrade from 4.0.2 to 4.0?
Upgraded to 4.0.2 last night. Immediately, itunes would no longer detect my iphone. Decided I had to downgrade back to 4.0 again. Learned I cannot do that easily, so i found a .ipsw file of firmware 4.0 online, and downloaded it. Started up my iphone attached to itunes in restore mode, held down shift, and clicked restore button. Successfully restored the 4.0 file I had downloaded.
At the first boot, it was stuck in emergency mode. I even tried to restore the default itunes backup after that, it was still stuck in emergency mode.
Anyone know how i fix this iphone? I have no interest in jailbreaks, i am in a 2 year contract with AT&T.

omg, it just fixed itself! i installed a brand new itunes on my laptop (which has never had itunes app before)
plugged in my iphone, it detected it right away and said "activated"! my phone is working again and has its phone number back.
now i did notice that the 4.0 is indeed slow, so i do want to try going back to 3.1.3 also.

  • Can't find photos after downgrading from Mountain Lion to Snow Leopard

I downgraded from Lion to Snow Leopard as my comuter was really slow (probably right at the min requirements for the new OS)
I can't locate my photos from my Time Machine. How do I access these? I have reinstalled everything back to Lion to try to get them off my Time Machine as it currently won't let me go back in time past the date when I down graded to Snow Leopard..
I am a dead man if I don't find the photos of our kids....

A good ressource for Time Machine questions is Pondini's Time Machine - Troubleshooting
Have a look at the section Time Machine - Troubleshooting E2. I can't see some backups
as it currently won't let me go back in time past the date when I down graded to Snow Leopard..
You probably now have two different Time Machine backups - after the downgrade TM started a new one. Have you inspected your backup disk in the Finder and looked what backups are there?
You should see a folder "Backups.backup.db" and inside the current backups for the computers you are syncing. Is there more than one? Open the folders and look at the dates. Is there any backup from last year?

  • Error -42408 after downgrade n iphone content unreadable

    Hi,
I recently deleted the new itunes 11 from the apps folder, downloaded and installed the old itunes 10.7 in it's place instead. But everytime I start itunes, I get the error -42408 and itunes keep telling me it cannot read the content of my iphone and I have to restore it. This never happened prior to the upgrade to version 11 so I am thinking it's a problem with the downgrade?
Is there something I am to delete or??
    Thank You.

What you need to do depends upon how you did the downgrade.
    =Downgrading from iTunes 11 to iTunes 10.7=
You may be able to go back with Time Machine but this may involve restoring other items too (https://discussions.apple.com/message/20441404).  Alternatively:
Back up your computer first, in case the unexpected happens.
    Quit iTunes.
Get iTunes 10.7 from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1576 or the direct download link at:  http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes10/041-7195.20120912.d3uzQ/iTunes10.7.dmg
Do a few preparatory steps by making sure all iTunes components are not running and cleaning old files.   See https://discussions.apple.com/message/20475394.  Do steps 3 and 4.  Steps 6-8 may be also useful but I don't know if they are essential.  Some of the other steps are not necessary, duplicate steps listed later in my post or are perhaps even unhelpful in the process.
Replace the iTunes 11 application with iTunes 10.7.  Simply dragging the application to the trash may not work. Lion (OSX 10.7) and newer systems have iTunes integrated into the operating system and deleting is a bit more involved.  Two ways to do this are:
    1.  Use the shareware Pacifist utility (http://www.charlessoft.com/) to install iTunes 10.7 including all associated system files. Details at http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=16400819&postcount=6
    2. Check this reference on how to delete the iTunes application itself:
Delete iTunes in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion - http://osxdaily.com/2011/09/13/delete-itunes-in-mac-os-x-10-7-lion/
After deleting the application there may be other files that need downgrading too. See the note about error -42408 at the end of this post. You may want to tuck these away somewhere safe until you have completed the installation of iTunes 10.7.  I have not tested this but ideally if newer versions are not found then the installer will put in the old versions. This may include these files in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ which apparently get updated by iTunes 11:
    AirTrafficHost.framework
    CoreFP.framework
    DeviceLink.framework
    iTunesAccess.framework
    MobileDevice.framework
After doing one of the two procedures above you will have to rescue the most recent old iTunes library from your iTunes > Previous Libraries folder. Rename it "iTunes Library.itl"  and replace the existing one in the iTunes folder. A newer version of iTunes irreversibly updates your library file so you have to replace it with the old one or you will get an error message. Note, this will revert your library to the version at the time of the upgrade and you will have to update any changes made since.  See:

Alternatively, check https://discussions.apple.com/message/20441424 which requires you have a Time Machine backup (though possibly if you remove the newer version of these files old ones may be installed with the iTunes 10.7 installer - untested).  A  variant of this is at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20448184

  • Can't find iPhoto photos after downgrading to Snow Leopard from Lion

I had my photos on my External Hard Drive being used as a backup for TIme Machine.
After downgrading to Snow Leopard from Lion (my computer was running rediculusly slow likely due to being so close to the minimum requirements), I can not access any of my Time Machine dates prior to the date I downgraded. I have reinstalled Lion to try to access the files that way, but am having issues finding my old photos.
Any help would be appreciated as I've got about 15000 photos of my kids on there.

There are issues with iphoto which changes versions..
I would strongly recommend you do an archive of the TC before you do any more playing.
I presume the TC is the only place you have these photos stored??? So your entire library is hard disk erase from total annilahation.. not good!!
Load a real utility into Lion.. archive is not present on the new version.. why apple why??
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
You can then do a full restore to an external drive.. or something fancy..
    Pondini is the saviour here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/15.html
There is a specific section on iphoto and its pain.
I strongly suggest you read the entire section from Q14-18 so you actually understand what TM does.

  • Can't use apps after downgrading then restoring

There are some apps that I can't use after downgrading from Lion to Snow Leopard, then restoring the system back to Lion from a Time Machine backup.  These are things like Address Book, Mail, the App Store and Preview.  I get a message that says the program "couldn't open because of a problem".  How do I get these to work, short of having to buy Lion for 69.00 (as I can't use the App Store and get it for 29.00)?

similar issue looking for an answer as well
I just lost my HD after upgrading to Lion.  I don't have a lion boot up disk and I can't restore my Lion time machine backup using the Snow Leopard boot disk.   I tried installing snow leopard fresh with the thought of upgrading to Lion and restoring time machine backup from there.   Once I  install a fresh copy of Snow Leopard the App Store does not run saying I need Lion to run it which I can't get without the App store.

  • My iPod touch 5th generation data lost after downgrade from ios 8 to ios 7.1.2

I have just downgraded my iPod touch 5th generation from ios 8 to ios 7.1.2 . after downgrading, all my data (apps, music, document) in the iPod touch were lost, but photos were manage to recover. when I connect to the computer, it show that others in the capacity column used up almost 18 GB of memory. What is in others? Why it used up so much memory?  How can I recover my lost data?

You may not be able to restore the data since when you downgrade from a backup made with a new iOS version data does not transfer.
An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB indicates corrupted files.
What is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
What is "Other" and What Can I Do About It?
Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
    To restore from backup see:

To restore to factory settings/new iPod see:

is it possible to restore from a backup after initial setup on my iPad air?

You don't even have to do to an erase all content and settings.
Just connect the iPad to iTunes. Once it appears on the left, right click on it and select restore from backup. It's that easy.

  • Time Machine Backup After HDD Upgrade

I recently updated my drive on my MBP with a larger size where I successfully cloned the system from the old drive over the new one with Carbon Copy Cloner to safe me the hassle of the migration. The task was flawless and transparent to the system and me--as a user, except for Time Machine.
I've maintained a regular backup with Time Machine on a 500gb external drive, instead of transparently picking the backup where it left off, Time Machine is attempting to redo the backup as a complete new set for the new drive where I no longer have enough space?
    So the question is:
    - Is this behavior by design?
    - Is it possible to trick Time Machine to continue backing up without starting over? So the 6 months old worth of backup data is intact since this is the same set of data?
    Thank you.

no. TM will do a full backup after hard drive cloning. there is no way around that. you have to either delete some old backups (this can be done from TM interface) or reformat the TM drive and start backups from scratch or use a different backup drive.
So the 6 months old worth of backup data is intact since this is the same set of data?

  • Time Machine Backups after recent upgrade to Mountain Lion

Basically to keep a long story short - i need to take my computer in for repair tomorrow. I recently did an upgrade to Mountain Lion a day or two ago. I haven't done a Time Machine backup until today (a couple days after i upgraded to Mountain Lion) because i wanted to make sure that my previous TM backup (Snow Leopard 10.6.8) was the most up to date and best update that i could revert back to if i had any issues with Mountain Lion, or any application compatibility, etc etc.
I don't have any broken applications and it seems like Mountain Lion is running better than Snow Leopard. However, as i said - i'm taking my computer in for repair tomorrow, i would like to know that i have the most up to date Time Machine backup with the new Mountain Lion so that when i restore it back from my Time Machine backup after i get it back from repair, i won't have any issues with the migration, which could potentially lead me into more technicalities.
I have a 500GB Harddrive, with about 70GB left of free space....I did the initial backup prior to upgrading to Mountain Lion, and it upgraded 400+GB of info, now, since Mountain Lion - the first backup with Mountain Lion initially said 46GB - then it went down to 14GB by the time it was all said and done....so what exactly did it back up?
Did it back up all the necessary files to keep Mountain Lion running smoothly when i restore it back to the way it was after i get it back? Did it not back everything up that it needs to? Is it safe to erase my internal drive and do a clean installation so i can take it in, and not worry about not being able to migrate things back over or applications not working correctly?
When i get it back, i presume it will come with Mountain Lion back on it and i can just boot up into the Recovery Disk and restore it from a Time Machine backup that way, correct?
    Thanks for the help.
    - Jason

I received the same error and experienced the same issue that you have described but after performing a Time Capsule soft reset and then toggling the TM Off and then back On I was able issue a backup now and see my previous backups.
Here is the link to where I posted my fix; https://discussions.apple.com/message/19069543#19069543. Someone else had success using a different method. The only comment / complaint that I have since the ML OS X upgrade is that TM now takes at least 20 to 30 seconds before I can click/select a backup.
    I hope this helps.

  • My 4th gen ipod won't backup after it froze during a software update to 4.3.5. I had to cancel the backup at the start of the update and now it won't let me backup to my computer, freezes during backup or says my backup is corrupted.

I pressed 'X' during a backup after it froze during an update to software 4.3.5 and now it won't let me backup on my computer. Does anyone have any ideas? It either freezes during backup or says my 'backup is corrupted' or 'I cannot backup on my computer'. I have had to abort quite a few attempted backups since the initial problem, which I think has made it worse. I have already tried restoring my ipod, deleting the aborted backup from my preferences/devices in itunes and deleting it from my user/appdata/etc on my PC hard drive. Any ideas what to try next?

After hours of frustration I eventually decided to restore. I lost my apps, but i didn't have many and was able to reinstall them for free. During the restore it updated my ipod to the latest software 4.3.5, which i think may have caused the initial problem, but the backup issue remains. Sometimes it stops me from syncing and other times it allows me to skip the backup, but still says that i can't backup on my computer. I'm worried that it has done something to my computer as it took me six hours to do a Bullguard scan, which only normally takes about an hour. The scan didn't come up with any viruses, but it stalled at system32 for ages. The only other thing that i can think of is that a demo CD I uploaded may have caused a problem. iTunes couldn't find a track listing for it but gave me a few different options. i thought I had to choose one to continue, so did that then changed the track details to the correct tracks. I'm now worried that may have introduced an issue or caused a glitch in iTunes. How paranoid am I sounding?

  • I did an icloud backup on my old 4S with iOS 8.3 and wanted to install on my new iPhone 6 but it only has iOS 8.1.3! Can I do/use the backup after I chose "install as new iPhone"?

I did an icloud backup on my old 4S with iOS 8.3 and wanted to install on my new iPhone 6 but it only has iOS 8.1.3! Can I do/use the backup after I chose "install as new iPhone"?
Because I cannot update the software until I chose if I want to begin with a new phone setting or download a backup.
But the backup is of course not compatible with the old iOS.
So will it be possible to get the new iPhone going, then do the software update to 8.3 and then download / use the data from
    my 4S icloud backup?

    1. Settings > General > Software Update > Update the  to 8.3
    2. Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content & Settings
    3. Reactivate phone and follow prompts to restore iCloud (or iTunes) backup.
