Backups of filr data

Just curious what different users out there are using to backup filr data? It has a nice section the docs that talks about certains paths that should be backed up. We currently use Symantec BE 2012, but I am not sure should we be installing BE agents directly on appliances or not. Just wanted to see what users out there are using and if anyone is installing agents directly on appliances.

I'm having some difficulty with Time Machine.  It appears to be deleting backups from random dates on my external hard drive.  I am not deleting them.  Are they hidden and how do I prevent this from happening?  Can I retrieve them?

... I didn't know that Time Machine was more a last resort back up instead of main back up.
Don't rely upon Time Machine to the exclusion of all else. I compliment Time Machine with a periodic "clone". TM is much better than nothing, but it's a safety net, not a hammock
Here is my understanding of Time Machine's file deletion algorithm, distilled from Pondini's FAQ, Apple's KB articles, and my own observations.
Time Machine deletes ("thins") files from the backup disk as follows:
Hourly backups over 24 hours old, except the first backup of the day
Daily backups over 30 days old, except the first backup of the week
Older backups get deleted when Time Machine requires space and you deleted them from the source disk.
Therefore, assuming TM has been performing at least one backup per day, backup files will remain available:
at least thirty days, if they existed on your Mac for at least a day
until you run out of space, if they existed on your Mac for at least a week
In addition to the above, Time Machine always keeps one complete copy of your source disk so that the entire volume could be restored if necessary. Any files that remain on your source volume will be present on the TM backup, no matter how old they are.
If you are using 250 GB of space on your source disk, its Time Machine backups are likely to require at least twice that much. A good estimate of the minimum required backup volume size would be about three times the size of your source disk - 1.5 TB in your case.
A more thorough explanation would require Pondini since he has plumbed Time Machine's mysteries far more than I have.

  • How to recover DVD backup of user data

Under windows 7 home  premium  I did a backup of user data to 25 DVDs before restoring the original OS from the Restore partition.  Now I want to restore user data from the DVDs. I can not find anything under recovery and restore. but I did find a EXE called RecoveryMrg on the 1st DVD.  Clicking on it I get an hourglass when I put the cursor over the window of files on the dvd.
In another forum post it suggest this should take a while. Well it has been a couple of hours.
On the resource monitor DISK tab I do not see any activity to the DVD drive. (But I am not sure it should show op there)
Is this long time normal? Or is this the wrong way to restore the user files?
    Thanks

  • Keeping backups of application data and migrations to new ipod?

I'm planning to share an iPod Touch with my younger brother since I so rarely use it so I'm barely familiar with basic usage. I want him to have his own account separate from mine, but I would like to be able to backup his data and restore my data when the time comes. The iPod should either only have his data or mine, but obviously not both. I might even buy myself a new ipod touch or migrate to an iPhone.
    So the question is:
    a) Does backups take backup of application data such as save games and application settings?
    b) Can I restore all the applications, app data, game saves, music and video to another ipod touch/iphone in the future? i.e. migrate to another device?
    c) How do I backup the backup? i.e. if I keep this backup on my PC (Windows) and need to wipe the computer clean and re-install Windows. How do I retain the iTunes backup data?
    d) How do I perform the backup? Yeah, I literally used the iTunes application a dusin times at most, so have little clue how to operate it.
Please help, since I'm not familiar with my own iPod Touch!

  • I broke the screen on my ipod touch 4th gen and im trying to do a backup on the data but it says i need to enter a passcode on my ipod but the screen dosent work so what can i do

hey i broke the screen on my ipod touch 4th Gen and im trying to do a backup on the data but it says I need to enter a passcode on my ipod but the screen dosent work so what can I do.

You can't backup the iPod t iTunes then. You will have to use an existing iTunes backup.
If iCloud backup is turned on and the iPod is still working (not disabled), the iPod will automatically backup daily if an internet connection is available and the iPod is connected to a charging source.

  • Veeam backup compared to Data Guard.

    Hello to all.
Our sysadmins are thinking about virtualization of Oracle servers to vmware and instead of Data Guard to use Veeam backup. Will it be optimal ? Some documents tell that OS snapshots, hardware replication etc. used on opened database can create inconsistent data.

    Hello;
You would be lucky if all you got with Veeam backup is inconsistent data.
Data Guard offers things a backup solution cannot :
Real Disaster Recovery since block are transferred via. a different mechanism, than the primary writes block.
Rolling Upgrade capability of OS (and special DB patches, not all).
Block corruption are automatically detected (and can even be automatically be resolved).
Read Only request and backup can be directed to the standby system to save system utilization on primary.
11.2 Active DataGuard will automatically do the RMAN block repair from the standby.
Has Oracle endorsed this backup solution?
Can your company tolerate ?? minutes of transactional data loss?
This would be my main push back.
    Best Regards

  • How I backup my iPad data on iCloud ?

    Hello
Please help me how I backup my iPad data ( apps, music, contact, image and others ) on icloud?

    Settings>iCloud>Storage&Backup.  Turn on iCloud Backup.
When it comes to pictures, always sync them to a computer for archiving.  Never leave it to iCloud, as many users have lost photos during restores from backups.

  • Backup (single) SMA data

    Hi !
I'm implementing an ironport architecture with 2 ESA C-370 and 1 SMA M-670, with centralized message tracking (and reporting) on the SMA, and I would like to know a way to backup my SMA data and restore it after crash.
I saw in the user guide that it can be possible with a second SMA, but unfortunatly I only have one.
I saw in this forum several thread saying that it's not possible, but that was old posts, and I hope in 2013 there is a way to do this (I accept GUI, CLI, SSH, SCP, FTP or anything you need ^^).
I'm running AsyncOS 7.9.1 on SMA, and AsyncOS 7.6.3 on ESAs.
Thank you for your help !
    Best regards
    Quentin

Unfortunately AFAIK it is still true that to backup an SMA you need a second  SMA.  You use the SMA command backupconfig (which configures backups, it does  not backup your config!) to set this up.  Please refer to chapter 13 of the SMA  user guide for more details.
SMAs grab logs from your ESAs in order to provide centralised tracking and  reporting.  You can make a separate copy of these "source" logs on another  system using FTP, SFTP, SCP, etc.  If you use SLBL they will still exist on the  individual ESAs, at least current since the last refresh from the SMA (by  default they are propogated every 2 or 4 hours depending on model, 2 hours on  M670 I believe).  The other major data item is your ISQ (if you use central  quarantine) and I believe that data is lost if your M670 is unrecoverable.

  • Is there any way to backup the game data?

the home button on my ipod toch just recently stopped working. So apple said they would give me a free replacement uipod. So the problem is, i have like 40 games with many finished  levels and acheivements. So i was wondering if there is any way to back up the games AND the game data? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    - Easy. Before yu send yu iPod away, do one final sync.  The sync insluceds a backup of the iPOd. The backup includes app data and other things.
    iTunes: About iOS backups
    - Also, make sure that all apps and tother iTunes prucahses are in the iTunes library.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - When yu get the rplacement, restor the replacement from the backup of the original one.

Make an appointment at the genius bar of your local Apple Store. The phone has a 1 year warranty. If it's no longer under warranty, a replacement is $269.
