Backups using labels

Is it possible to have one of the tape backup applications (legato, veritas, etc) backup an Oracle database using the label security feature? If not, then what is the best way to back up data from the database using the labels as discriminator? Also, can the encryption of the backup be automated prior to sending out to tape?

Hi,
The original screenshot is for an alert - the information I want is in the details of the actual consistency check job that failed.  You can create a custom filter and just view failed jobs for that one data source, or run a new consistency job
and wait for the failure then provide the error details.
However, judging from the alert, we are skipping files that cannot be backed up, so you may want to run a chkdsk /f against the effected volume on the protected server and also the volume shown in the alert if that is the replica volume and see if that fixes
any problems.

Also, is there any specification about the user permissions and about how the backup should be run?

    Hi Lars,
I understand that its a clumpsy over here, but i already have raised an OSS message and SAP said, that they cannot support this issue with backint. If you can provide me with an email id, i can send you the log files which would be easy to read.
My issue is that am not able run backup for maxdb of content server 640 using the backint tool.
I have created the configuration file and the parameter file as per the specifications from http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_7/a9/8a1ef21e4b402bb76ff75bb559a98a/content.htm and http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_7/50/075205962843f69b9ec41f34427be7/content.htm.
THe server is registered to the TSM server. Now when i run the wizard to take the backup using the backint tool, it gives the error "Begin of output of Backint for MaxDB (/tmp/backint4sapdbCFC.out)- -

  • Copy Time machine backup using a different Mac

A friend has a Time Machine backup from an iMac that he sold some time ago. He's concerned that the drive might fail so wants to make a copy of the backup, but doesn't have a Mac at the moment. So he'd like to use my MacBook to copy his backup drive. The backup is about 400GB, my HD is 256GB and he'd like to copy it to a new 1TB drive.
All the answers that I can find to similar questions assume that the Time Machine backup belongs to the Mac making the copy, in this case it doesn't. So is there a way to copy a Time Machine backup using a Mac that wasn't used to create the backup?

    Hi ozRob,
If you would like to copy an existing Time Machine backup from one drive to another, you may find the following article helpful:

  • I recently upgraded my Macbook pro with a new Hard Drive.  I then transferred the data using Time Machine.  Now when I want to backup using Time Machine again, it won't do it as it did before to the same external HD.  How can I get it to reconnect?

Purchased a new, larger solid state drive to replace my old drive.  I installed OSX then I had Time Machine do it's magic.
Now when I want to do a backup using Time Machine, it tells me that the external HD is full.  When I did so prior to upgrade, it would erase old backups and then do a new backup.
Please help.  I am worried about losing files, and am tired of seeing the "Time Machine hasn't backed up in xxx days" Error Message.
    Thanks.

it thinks yours is a new machine so it doesn't want to start deleting another machine's backups

  • Can I restore a time machine osx lion backup using snow leopard install DVD?

    Hi.
I've been using osx lion but my hard drive died. Fortunately I have been making time machine backups.  Since I downloaded lion from the app store I only have the snow leopard install disks.
I know there is an option to restore from a time machine backup using the snow leopard disk, but since the time machine backup is of a later operating system (lion) will that  time machine restore work?
If it won't, can you recommend how to restore from my time machine backup?
    Thanks.

Once the replacement hard drive is installed, boot from your original Snow Leopard Installation Disk.  From there format the harddrive and install Snow Leopard and then download and install its Updates. Next, navigate to the Mac App Store and login using the Exact same Apple User ID that you did the first time you downloaded Lion.  You will now be able to download and install the Lion OS for Free. Download and install the Lion Updates.  Lastly, using Migration Assistant, migrate your Apps and Data from the Time Machine external hard drive to your internal Lion harddrive.  This method should give you a very stable version of Lion on your internal harddrive complete with all your previous settings, Apps and Data.
    Hope this helps

  • Is it possible to browse a Snow Leopard back-up on a Time Capsule shared with a Lion backup using the Lion-only machine?

My 2006 Macbook died but was backed up to my Time Capusle. This machine was running the most uptodate version of Snow Leopard at the time.
I've read that I should be able to access this backup using a different Mac but I can't see it when I CTRL-click the Time Machine icon (in the dock), when using my Macbook running Lion 10.7.1.  It only shows me the current backup for this machine.
I know the old backup must be there somewhere as the Time Capsule is almost completely full (700 gb of the 1tb was dedicated to the old MA

If you control-click on the Time Machine icon and select "Browse Other Time Machine Disks" but don't see the other backups, try this: Look in the "sidebar" of a Finder window for your Time Capsule.  If you see it, select it, then look for the Time Capsule's disk (probably called "Data" if you didn't rename it).  Double-click that to mount it.  Now try again to control-click on the Time Machine Dock icon.

  • How to create backup using sql commands

can i create a backup using sql/sqlplus commands

I would actually advice you to use RMAN, instead of backup using sql commands, but if you want or have a requirment to do so..
First off all you should ensire that your databasse is in archilog mode.. (ALL PRODUCTION DATABASES should be in archivelog mode)
you can do it using sql*plus
    archive log list
Then if you would like to make a cold backup (the only one posible in noarchivelog mode)
    ypu have to
    shutdown immediate
copy all database files (you don't need to copy redo logs) to another device
    startup - to startup database
Actually I will suggest that your read User manager Recovery guide from oracle documentation

  • Tablespace level backup using data pump

    Hi,
Im using 10.2.0.4 on RHEL 4,
I have one doubt, can we take a tablespace level backup using data pump,
bt i dnt wnt to use it for transportable tablespace.
    thanks.

Yes, you can only for the tables in that tablespace only.
Use the TABLESPACES option to export list of tablespaces.*here all the tables in that tablespaces will be exported*.
and you must have the EXP_FULL_DATABASE role to use tablespace mode.
    Have a look at this,

  • Cold backup using RMAN

    Dear All,
    db_version :10.2.0.4
    os_version:Window 2003 server

I wish to perform cold backup using RMAN for the same i want to know following :
    1. What is the script / command ?
    2. How to restore cold backup completely ( ex:- if i lost all my data, redo and archives )
    3. Is it mandatory to open the database in RESETLOG mode after recovery ( since i have a cold backup ) ?
    Thanks in advance

A "Cold" Backup is called a "Consistent" Backup.
    See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/bkup003.htm#sthref297
    Backup :
From the RMAN command line :
    SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE
    STARTUP MOUNT
    BACKUP DATABASE
BACKUP CURRENT CONTROLFILE  -- to get the controlfile in a separate backupsetRestore :
    STARTUP MOUNT
    RESTORE DATABASE
ALTER DATABASE OPENIf you use an SPFILE, you can have an SPFILE backup included automatically with the controlfile backupset with CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON and CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT ...

  • Backup using RMAN

    Hi,
I want to perform the first backup with RMAN and I used this command and I got error:
    RMAN> BACKUP AS COPY DATABASE;
can not backup or copy active file in noarchivelog mode.
But in order to turn on the log_mode to ARCHIVELOG, first I need to do shutdown the db and perform the backup. Right?
So how can I get my first backup using RMAN if the log mode is in NOARCHIVELOG mode?
I also performed controlfile autobackup on but I'm not sure the controlfiles are being backed up. How can I verify this and where I can find the controlfile backup file?
    Thanks,

    Hi
Yes, you must shutdown the database and set it to start in ARCHIVELOG mode.
After that you can connect to the rman catalog and the target database and execute a backup.
    eg. RMAN> backup database;
You can search other example posted by me:
    eg.
    - Re: Backup with RMAN
    - Re: How do i set up this backup strategy?
To be sure that you backed up your control file you can issue the rman-command:

  • Could someone tell me how to control a small dc motor by using labeled and a NI 6008 daq. The motor is adjustable by using a pot that ranges between 0-V if that is of any additional benefit

Could someone tell me how to control a small dc motor by using labeled and a NI 6008 daq.  The motor is adjustable by using a pot  that ranges between 0-V if that is of any additional benefit.

Read the second thread you have a link to. While both of these will produce PWM signals, the first one is a couple of orders of magnitude too slow to do anything useful in control the speed of a motor, what you would see would be the motor run at the full speed, then stop for a period, then run at full speed, rather than at the "average of on and off"  as the Pulse Widths will be very long relative to the motor's response. The second one has a better chance, IF all you want to do is run the motor. If there is any other calculations ...   Look at both and try and get an understanding of what they are doing. For PWM speed control of a motor you really need a pretty fast pulse width, and probably some filtering to smooth out the resulting "harsh" waveform, giving you the "average" voltage resulting from the PWM.

    GILSAPED:/usr/sap/trans     20.00     17.54      2.46   88% /usr/sap/trans
    2. Is it possible to directly backup the filesystems (like /dev/oracleGSPlv)? This requirement is because, when I backup (using tar) /oracle, all the folders in /oracle, like /oracle/GSP, /oracle/GSP/sapdata1 etc, are also backed up. I do not want it. I would like to backup the filesystems directly.
    3. Which unix backup tools are used to backup the individual filesystems?
    4. How do we restore the filesystems to the test server? Thanks for your advise. Abdul Edited by: Abdul Rahim Shaik on Feb 8, 2010 12:10 PM

    Hi,
I am not sure about your OS as you have not mentioned it...
If it is HP-UX then you can use "fbackup" backup for filesystem...
and IGNITE to backup volume groups..
fbackup will backup the filesystem only... but IGNITE backup creates bootable media for recovery...
With IGNITE (make_tape_recovery) backup you can backup individual volume group.
you can see the man pages for the details...
    #man fbackup
    #man make_tape_recovery
It will be more easy to guide you if you provide your OS and Filesystem layout and what you need to backup...
If you still want to use "tar" command for backup, use "--no-recursion" option to backup single directory

  • Error in Database backup using RMAN.

    Hi
While taking full online backup using RMAN i got the following error.
ORA-19566: exceeded limit of 0 corrupt blocks for file /oracle/DEV/sapdata2/dev640_6/dev640.data6
Please help me how to resolve this issue.

    Hi,
Please perform DBverify Job and Also analyze the alert<SID>.log file for your Database to get more information about such logical or physical corruption.  You may require Block level recovery for the complained DB Files. Please refer this useful document " [Early Detection and Correction of Data Block Corruptions Using RMAN |http://www.ioug.org/client_files/members/select_pdf/04q4/RMAN.pdf]" and share the same with your Oracle DBA.
You can execute the following commands to get information about corrupted block(s), if its there.
    select * from v$backup_corruption;
    select * from v$database_block_corruption;
