Backward Compatibility of Acrobat 9 Pro and Pro Extended

if I make a pdf with a swf or mov. file in Acrobat Pro Extended, can someone with Acrobat 6 or 7 see those features when they open it up?
Where is there a chart for these version differences on the website. I could not find it readily.

It depends. How are you inserting the mov/swf file in Acrobat 9?
Once you click the insert video/flash button in Acrobat Pro Extended, you'll see a dialog with lot of text (read it :-)). Essentially, by default the .mov would be converted to flash video and embedded in PDF file. This would be viewable only in Acrobat/Reader 9 and users on a lower version will get a message to update their program. On the plus side, the video would be played natively by Acrobat/Reader 9 and users would not need any player like Quicktime installed to view the video.
On the same dialog, there is an option (link) to "create legacy multimedia content". If you choose that option you can create files with video that can be viewed using Reader 5/6 but would require user's machine to have a native video player installed.

  • Disable or Hide Online Support menu option from: Reader, Acrobat Standard and Pro XI 11.0.2

    Hi,
I'm trying to make a custom installation for 3 applications: Adobe Reader XI 11.0.2, Acrobat Std. and Pro XI 11.0.2  and most of the options that I wanted to hide are done with the Customization Wizard but I can't hide Online Support. I didn't found yet any FeatureLockDown for this option so far. So our users can still use the Online Support options.
Notice that I tried to drop a script into: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\Javascripts   but when you 1st open the application it has a delay and somehow you still can access it. But if you try to open it again the menu is hidden.
    //HideMenu.js
    //Help - Online Support
    app.hideMenuItem("OnlineSupport");
But a FeatureLockDown on HKLM hive will be the best way to disable this option as users don't have access to this registry hive and some advanced users with more rights could be able to delete the .js file if they know where it is saved.
I will appreaciate your help to get this FeatureLockDown option if it exists or an alternative way.
Thanks as usual and Kind regards everyone.
    Derspinne.

  • Using Adobe Customization Tool XI to deploy Acrobat STD and PRO

    Hello,
I'm using Adobe Customization Tool XI to build Adobe Acrobat STD and PRO packages.
It seems that none of my changes stick during deployment.
Example: I open AcroStan.msi with the tool. Make all necessary changes and generate transform file. I then exit without saving changes to AcroStan.msi file.
After that I test the installation in C:\Test folder with the following command:
    msiexec /i acrostan.msi TRANSFORMS=test.mst
Installation window pops up since I didn't use silent installation switches, but none of the information I have provided are available, it defaults to out of the box experience asking for serial number as well.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Luke

I have created .mst file named test and put it in c:\New Folder along with all source files, including AcroStan.msi
    Command line:
    c:\new folder>msiexec /i AcroStan.msi TRANSFORMS=test.mst /qb (I've used QB to watch the progress).
It failes with this error attached below.
We can close this subject though.
I've started testing this on different machines and they all work fine.
I have many VMs to test on, and the one I have picked to start with is causing the above error so I'm going to link this issue with the OS.
Other VMs and desktops are working great.

  • Does OSX do "backward compatibility to Acrobat Reader version 6"?

I need to prepare a PDF file from my Pages document, and it required to provide "backward compatibility to Acrobat Reader version 6." Apparently this is something Acrobat Distiller can do but I don't have that app. How can I get Pages to make such a PDF file, or how can I convert the one Pages makes to that format? (I looked at ColorSync Utility but didn't see anything relevant among its PDF filters.)
Quick advice would be very much appreciated!

You have to use cmd + P when creating PDF files from Pages with this new option.

  • Adobe Reader 8 compatible with Acrobat Standard and Pro 7?

Our organization has Adobe Reader 7 deployed to all users. Some users also have Acrobat Standard 7 or Acrobat Pro 7. We want to upgrade all users to Adobe Reader 8 (or maybe 9) but do not want to upgrade Standard and Pro users yet.
I have not been able to find any information about compatibility issues with Reader 8 and older versions of Acrobat, but last time we did an upgrade in similar fashion we experienced issues. Any insight?

Thanks for the reply. I stumbled across something today after posting. I had already known that If the ARX user also had one of the other products (AAXS or AAXP), then they would get the dialog box. Here is what I just figured out: if the user uninstalled ARX and re-installed (still having both ARX and AAXS or AAXP in the end) then they no longer get the dialog box. It seems like perhaps its an issue the AAXP and AAXS are overwriting something in the registry.

  • FCE & FCP compatibility with OMF files and Pro Tools

I am using Final Cut Express 3.5 and want to edit a future project on it for a friend. When I am finished with the project, I was wanting to export the audio as an OMF file so that it can be mixed in Pro Tools. However, I just realized that Final Cut Express 3.5 does not support OMF exporting.
I am trying to work around this problem and I just need some verification that my idea will work. This is my idea: Will it work if I take my finished FCE project and open it on a friend's computer that has Final Cut Pro and create an OMF file through FCP?
If so, after mixing in Pro Tools, will I be able to import the mixed audio back into my FCE (or worst case scenario, my friend's FCP) and be able to burn the movie to DVD?

    1. Depends on the FCP version they're using. FCP5.1 or later will work.
    2. Yes.

  • Adobe Acrobat Standard and Pro - dialog prompt when opening PDF from Internet Explorer 9

    Good morning.
I am having an issue where our ends users that have either Adobe Acrobat X Standard (AAXS) or Adobe Acrobat X Pro (AAXP) cannot open a PDF within Internet Explorer 9 without being prompted by a dialog box to OPEN, SAVE or SAVE AS. Our user that have Adobe Reader X (ARX) only are ok. The ARX users can click on a PDF link within the browser and it will automatically open in a new tab. However, the AAXS and AAXP users will click on that same link, but are then prompted with a dialog box to either OPEN, SAVE or SAVE AS. Has any one else seen this before? We would like it to be so that all users - no matter what Adobe PDF program they are using of the 3 mentioned - can open a PDF link by just clicking on the link and no additional dialog options appear.
The ARX users have the same Internet settings within the Adobe preferences as the AAXS and AAXP users. The check box is checked to have PDFs open within the browser, which they do, but that dialog box always appears for AAXS and AAXP users. Any thoughts?
    Thank you.

  • How best to link 2 MacBook Pros and use extended desktop

OK- I have two MacBook Pros- one 13" MacBook Pro 2.66GHz and one older 15" 2.4GHz but generally only use the smaller 13".  Since I quite like using my Final Cut Pro on my Mac for HOURS on end, I would reap benefit of being able to rope in the older one for extra "extended" desktop space.
I understand that I am probably going to have to use something like Screen Recycler?  Because I cannot see the option to use "extended desktop" on System Preference (which may be because, as yet, they are not linked) but is that the best option?
Also- what physical connection should I make between the two?  What cable?
Please and thanks kind people on this Oh So New And Shiny Forum.

ScreenRecycler is your only option, but you may find that the second screen isn't responsive enough for video editing. An external monitor would be greatly preferable to using your second MBP that way.
You can read all about how it works and how to connect your machines on the ScreenRecycler web site.

  • HP Printers - 8000 Pro and Pro 8500A Plus all in one wireless setups

First, six weeks of customer support has not been able to get my 8500A Plus all-in-one install on my XP Pro SP3 laptop.  I've uninstalled the printer using HP's utility, the Control Panel and still can't install it wireless to this laptop. I am about to attempt an Ethernet connection, but have little to no confidence in it's success. The support has been terrible - repeating the same steps over and over, promising call backs and never calling back, promising escalation and always talking to a level 1 support person that repeats the exact same steps, and promises to solve the problem.  The last person couldn't figure out how to shut off the wireless feature on the printer - it hung every time I did what he told me too.  I also get periodic "crashes" white screens on the printer's display and all of the lights flashing.
Anyone have a suggestion?  HP want to replace this printer?
Second, since I've had so much trouble with the 8500, the uninstallation process uninstalled the 8000 Pro I had on my network, wireless and working.  Now, the installation of the 8000 Pro has failed three times.  I'm attempting a USB installation with hopes to switch to wireless, but the process (at around 33% of step 3 of 4) is taking hours!  What gives?
Any suggestions?  I surely don't want to call HP Customer Care for support, and waste another six weeks on a second printer.

  • MACBOOK PRO and PRO RES

    Hello all!
I am researching buying a 15" middle tier, macbook pro for video editing. I understand you need an HD video card to capture the HD video to convert into Pro Res. But once its in the pro res format, can you use a macbook pro to edit it?
And if you can, is it extremely slow that's it's not really worth it?
Or do you that AJA I/O to edit the pro res video with the mbp?
Also, I looked into the eSata external drives to use the mbp, but when I checked out the specs on G-tech, the pdf comparison for speeds between esata and firewire 800 was miniscule. Isn't esata supposed to be much faster than firewire?

You can most definately edit ProRes on a MacBook Pro. FW800 RAIDED drive would be required for this, like the G-Raid, FirewireVR, LaCie D2. However, eSATA is faster and MUCH better. I don't know where you got your numbers for FW800-eSATA comparison, but if they are single drives, eSATA is 20MB-40MB/s faster. Get Raided drives and it is VASTLY different. 75MB/s for FW800 Raid 0 hardware raided drives (G-Raid) vs 140MB/s eSATA (S2VR Duo).
I can edit ProRes with my Powerbook G4 laptop...I just can't capture it.
And with the I/O HD, you have the perfect remote ProRes setup...and because it is a Firewire capture device, you must have an eSATA drive...well, you can get a firewire card, but eSATA is much better.

  • Logic Pro and Pro Tools DAE

    Hey whats up.
    I got Logic Pro, Pro Tools HD2, (2) 96ios, and (2) 1622s.
    I have 48 inputs...
I want to be able to use Logic's soft synths and have the outputs go into my Pro Tools Audio Interface.
I was reading the TDM guide and some questions here but I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do.
I go to Audio Hardware and Drivers... but it only shows Core Audio. Not DAE or DTDM. Do I have to install something with my Pro Tools system to make them show up?
Also, Is it possible to have Logic's Soft Syths go directly to Pro Tool's interfaces?
Thanks very much for any help on the matter.
    Josh
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

My system is working fine besides this.
But when I got to Audio Hardware and Drivers I only have a Core Audio tab... Not DAE or DTDM.
I called tech support and they looked on the Pro Tools website. It says:
    * Logic Pro 7.2 is supported on Intel-based Mac versions of Pro Tools only via Core Audio at this time.
So this means that I can't output my synth sounds out to separate Pro Tools channels???
I'm ready to give up and wait for an update but can this really be? I have Pro Tools HD2 and a Mac Pro. They are too new??? I hope I'm wrong. What do u think?
    Thanks very much.

As for the Key Commands, it was the next plug-in and I assigned them to + and -.... Thanks guys!
