Bad aspect for Time Code Generator filter?

I'm making changes to an existing sequence which used the stock Time Code Generator filter to superimpose elapsed-time on an industrial process. However, after upgrading to Studio2/FCP6, the time characters are now elongated and narrow, with almost no leading between... almost as though it was pre-comped for 16:9.
As before, the filter has no controls for aspect or even font selection, so I can't really see a workaround; short term, I'm using AfterEffects to make a TCW to overlay.
What am I missing? Anyone aware of a possible FCP6 bug?

Probably not the same issue, but in a recent project using FCP 5.1.4 and Anamorphic DVCPro50 clips, the TCG would act weird (tall and thin, as if it failed to 'see' that it was on an anamorphic clip) when first applied but any adjustment to it forced it to snap to the correct aspect ratio. In my case, I only lowered the font size from 24 to 18.
But like I said, may not be the same type of issue...

WAITING FOR TIME CODE....again

Hi, when I try to capture from DV device, the capture window appears "PREVIEW DISABLED" I can remote the dv device, mark time code in or out, play tape, pause tape, the time code in the capture window run and is the same taht the tape, but when I do batch capture, cpture clip or capture now, the preview window of catpure says : "WAITING FOR TIME CODE" "DEVICE MUST IN VTR MODE WHEN DEVICE CONTROL IS ENABLED" and when I abort the capture this message apperas: "THIS OPERATION COULD NOT BE COMPLETED AS THERE IS NO VIDEO", Quicktime pro is unabled to capture too, but IMOVIE capture without this problem. I download the firewire sdk from developer connection of apple and use AVCVideo Cap, and no problem for cature, so , my Firewire or dv devices are ok, with DVHSCap I capture PRO HD JVC very well.
Resume , I think there is a problem with quicktime and DV format, My Ibook G4 with FCP 5.0.1 capture from DV devices OK, without problem. If anybody resolved this please comment with us. I work to day with FCP 6.0.4 and quicktime 7.5 and Mac os 10.4.11 and 10.5.4 the problem is afected my PowerPC G5 and my powerbook intel. Another point of interest is that this problem is RANDOM, some times I can capture from DV devices in the first time, some times I can't capture.

Yes actually my older Sony TVR-310 camcorder IS a digital unit which can also play back analog tapes.
As I'm getting my way around now in FCE, I'm coming to some conclusions in regard to FCE's capture capability.
First let me say that I've also tried capturing some footage in FCE with my other Sony TVR-950, and have had dropped frames, and also breaks in time code.
I thought dropped frames were strictly a PC issue?
Anyway, it appears to me that FCE is VERY sensitive to time code issues NO matter which camera is in the chain.
In fact, I've also read here where folks have a lot of trouble with their Canon GL2's as well. Some of you have even suggested to do your captures in a cheaper Mini DV, or a clam-shell playback machine. This conserves the heads on your GL2 as well.
But why would FCE do better in regard to capturing and time code, with a cheaper Mini DV Camcorder? Perhaps I'm missing something here?
Perhaps iMovie doesn't care about the same issue?
Now my main question is:
Ok I'll use iMovie6 HD (tried and true), to capture ALL my footage and just save the DV files to be edited later (imported) into FCE.
Does this sound like a viable solution to FCE's time code issues?
Will my iMovie captures be JUST AS GOOD as if they were done in FCE?

Placing a time code generator

I am trying to place a time code generator on my sequence. It keeps failing. I receive "invalid file error" and "missing plug-ins" messages. What is the real problem and how can it be corrected?

Sorry, I can not duplicate the error. The standard answers would be try trashing your preferences and if that doesn't work, a re-install.

"Waiting for time code" while Capture Now

My Sony DSC-TRV 460 (Hi 8 digital, not HD) camcorder (digital video output activated because the tape is an older, analog) is attached w/firewire. Click File > Capture. The capture window appears and its controls do control the camcorder and I can watch the tape w/audio there. According the Help, I set the tape a bit before I want to start, click Play (or spacebar), click Capture Now. This launches a big black window that says Final Cut Express w/Apple logo. At the bottom it says "hit escape to exit," "device must be in VTR mode" and "Waiting for time code." The same camcorder with the same settings brings video into iMovie HD with no problem so I could workaround that way. How to get FCE to do what I want, though?

I've accomplished the task several times with my Sony Digital-8 camera. Since the tape is analog there's no timecode (which iMovie doesn't look for) and you must use the DV Converter setting in easy setup. I think you're right about the on-screen transport controls: you won't have them. (FCE thinks it's just listening to a converter box -- same as if you connected a VCR to the D8's analog ports, assuming the 460 offers that feature.) Try a reboot to clear things out. Turn on the camera then start FCE and check the Easy Setup settings. Use Capture Now and press the 'play' button on the camcorder.

Time Code Generator

I am in desperate need of putting a time code generator on a video in Final Cut Express HD 3.5. I just need it to roll at the bottom of the video clip so others can make comments by using specific time codes in their notes. Any suggestions on how to do this in Final Cut Express or is there a plug in somewhere that I can purchase?

Badi implementation for T-code: QE71

Hi Experts,
I am implementing a badi in transcation QE71 my requirement is to automatically generate quality data. In this t-code we enter the value for the MIC of the material for each inspection lot.
But in the screen only one entry can be done at a time our requirement is to enter 10 data at a time. Badi which hits when we press save button is QE_RESULT_VALUATION but the data entered in screen is column wise that is if it has 5 MIC for the material (thickness, socket length,....) then first it take thickness then in another loop it take socket length and so on. Please give me suggestion that how would I implement this badi. Please help

Time Code Generator, s l o w

When exporting an H.264, 3:40 video, 1920 x 1080 roughly 75MB, the export is relatively fast. However when adding TC generator, the export takes upwards of 2 hours. I'd just like to know if this is normal or is there a way to expedite the export. I've tried to bring down the quality and do a single pass but alas, still 2 hours. I'd like not to change the frame size but will if that what it takes.

FCP Searching for time code break on capture

Hi. I've been filming a few live events and capturing fine. This morning i went to follow the same procedure and Final cut Batch capture keeps searching for a timecode evert couple of minutes. It's looking for a break that isnt there. This means my footage is sticking.
Any suggestions?

Do you have a tape that you captured successfully in the past? If so, try and capture from it. If it captures properly, the new tape with the problem may be defective.
You might try getting a head cleaning tape and see if that helps.
What kind of drive are you capturing to? You might try another drive. Make sure you have plenty of empty space on all drives connected to the computer including the computer's startup drive.
Do you have any antivirus software installed on the computer? if so, turn it off or uninstall it.
Have you installed any software or system hacks since you last successfully captured material from this camera?
You might run diskrepair and disk warrior (if you've got it) on all drives. You might repair permissions on the startup drive. You might try deleting fcp preferences.

Time code reader procedure

I want to burn in the time code over a copy of my final footage. When I open up the filter for the Time Code Reader to be applied, the instructions as to how to set the time code to the proper numbers doesn't appear.
I see no place in the filter procedures to adjust or enter the numbers.

Perhaps you were thinking of the time code generator?
Drop it on the sequence (nested as its own thing) and away you go.

Firstly you need to find the package of the transaction for what you are looking for the BAdi's. Go to that transaction there in the menu bar, Go to System--> status and then you double click on the transaction and then you will find the package name.
Go to se84, there you select Enhancements> Business Add-ins> Definitions, and double click on that, There you give the package name and press execute button. Then you will be finding the list of badis for that package.

Importing non-time code Audio

Hi All,
I have a project coming up where my audio is coming from old fashioned
cassette tapes.
I'm thinking the way about doing this would be to run my audio from the player into my dv deck and capture the audio via fire wire through the usual log and capture method. The only thing is the log/capture seems to always be looking for time code. Is there a way I can capture this non-time code audio and create my audio files?

To do it the way you are trying, you must go to
AUDIO VIDEO SETTINGS > DEVICE CONTROL PRESETS and choose
NON CONTROLLABLE DEVICE.
The only problem with this method is that you would not to be able to recapture the material again with a timecode that relates to your project.
If that is an issue then you might consider transferring the cassettes to DV tape first, then capture from that. (no need to select non controllable) When the project is complete, you can safely delete the media files knowing that they exist on tape as a timecode source that you can recapture should the need arise.
