Bad Audio Issue on first gen MB

Hello everybody!
I have a first gen MB, 2.0ghz, 2 gb ram, custom 160gb Hitachi HDD, 2,5 years of life. Leopard 10.5.3.
Audio issues:
- sometimes (more often when I have USB devices attached) audio is not recognised at boot. No audio icon in menu bar, no output, nothing in preference pane. Restart solves the problem
- Always when Isight is on (i.e.green light on) Audio crackles and skips horrible (i.e. I can't use skype with isight, or photobooth with itunes).
- Audio skips and crackles often when I am just listening to something (itunes) and doing something else (live web browsing, nothing very cpu or hdd consuming).
It happens whatever software I am using to play audio files (even video files with VLC). It seems a very generalised issue. It started around when I updated to 10.5.2, no sign of getting better today with 10.5.3 (should solve something related to usb and audio).
Any hint, help possibilities? (I have tryed to: repair permissions, repair disk, run every single onyx optimisation, defrag, reset SMC, reset NVRAM) nothing works.
Any help would be much much appreciated, thank you very much.

Stop using Onyx. Don't defrag your hard drive. Both steps are unnecessary and can cause more damage than help. You may be able to solve your audio problems with this article:

  • Issues with First Gen G5's

    Hey-
So I might be aquiring a first gen PowerMac G5 for a pretty cheap deal.
First Gen products usually have at least some small issue or bug no matter what the product is.
I was wondering what what they were for the first gen G5's.
    Thanks

We've been running over a dozen of the first-generation 2.0GHz DP G5s since they came out and have encountered no chronic issues at all. YMMV. Some of the single-processor G5s have had some issues, which Apple thinks they have solved with the recent firmware updates; since we don't have any, I can't say if that claim is true.

  • Major heat issues with first gen Macbook Pro

It sure seems like I should be able to find an easy answer for this, but I can't.
I have (I believe) a first generation Macbook Pro. 2ghz processor, 2gb of RAM (maxed), running 10.5.8.
When running streaming videos on it, the temperature gets absolutely out of control. 194-200 degrees (F) for the CPU, and over 120 degrees on the bottom case. This is WITH the fans going at almost 6,000 RPM, and the computer is elevated at the corners in order to allow for airflow underneath.
There's a lot of separation between the top and bottom pieces near the bottom left of the computer (the corner near the Z key), if that means anything. What the heck is happening here, and can I do anything to fix this without spending hundreds of dollars at a repair shop?

  • First gen Moto X issues with Lollipop Update

I've got a first-gen Moto X (XT1058) and received the Lollipop update a couple of days ago. Since then I have run across a few issues. When I am using some other app, if I receive a call this little drop down answer/reject tab appears but if I answer, the call vanishes into some purgatory. Also drive Assist is broken. If I receive a text, it will read it aloud like normal, but when I try to reply, it doesn't even acknowledge I am speaking. It may have responded once when I shouted at full volume directly into the unit. Anybody having similar issues?

Effective July 20, 2015, the Android 5.1 (Lollipop) software update for the Moto X (XT1058) has been temporarily suspended. We apologize for any inconvenience and are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.
this is from the support page for the phone.  Its quite rare for att to do this....

  • First Gen iMac g5 shuts down randomly... and won't restart

My first gen iMac shuts off randomly, sometimes when I am not even in the room... and it takes 20 attempts at restarting before it will... the other times it shuts down during startup... I know there was an extended warranty for the power supply because it was defective... I had the same problem a few years ago and supposedly had the power supply fixed... now it is happening again and the extended warranty expired in Dec. 2008... which is bull... because if they fixed it the first time I would not be having the problem again... is this an easy fix? I can't even get in touch with anyone at apple for less than $29... which is also bull

If, in fact, your iMac G5 is a first generation unit, you may be affected by an issue involving defective capacitors on the logic board. This is reasonably easy to determine simply by removing the back, and examining the clusters of electrolytic capacitors for evidence of bloating or leakage. Affected components typically show an upward expansion or slight 'mushrooming' of the otherwise flat top of a capacitor.
If there is no evidence that this is the case, then the issue can typically be addressed by the replacement of the power supply. Units intended for use in later models prior to the release of the iMac which used an intel processor are backward compatible with earlier models. For the 20 inch iMac G5, the appropriate 'universal' replacement power supply would be a 661-3625 and is available here* for a more reasonable price than that typically advertised by other suppliers. The same company offers a non-advertised service in which all potentially affected capacitors on a defective logic board are replaced for $ 189.00. A bad board may, or may not, also require the replacement of the power supply. Such a determination can be made only after a unit with a defective logic board is submitted for repair.

  • Third Party Wireless N Upgrade for First Gen MacBook

I have a first generation MacBook that can only run on the wireless g standard. When the MacBook Core 2 Duos came out, they could take advantage of the new wireless N. Those of us with the first gen MacBook couldn't upgrade.
Then I ran across this product from FastMac.
    http://fastmac.com/ncard
I think it just came out.
Has anyone tried it? Think it would work? Anything I should be worried about?
They offer a DYI option. How hard could it be to install? They can install it also for $$ (90?).
    Your advice is welcome.
    Thanks.
    macbook 2.0ghz white   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Note if you do it yourself, any warranty resulting from problems afterwards will have to come from Fastmac. If you are under AppleCare, I don't think it is worth the trouble.
I'm not guessing as to how Apple will handle warranty issues. But logic dictates that's how it would be based on reading the AppleCare Service Agreement. This smells of "unauthorized modification." I could be wrong, but don't come crying here if your machine overheats, or something else bad happens. Fastmac will need to offer support.
You can get a WiFi 802.11n enabled Wireless Access Point with gigabit ethernet (not from Apple, as Apple's 802.11n base station uses 10/100 ethernet) that will hook up to the MacBook and provide the same speeds.

  • SuperDrive makes bad audio CD

My MBP is a 15" Core2 2.33GHz with Matshita UJ-875D drive, and it's been making bad audio CDs.
I'm using iTunes to make my CDs, and the CDs always play fine on my MBP. But as soon as I take those discs to my car or my older computers, they start to make static noises or skip. Usually the first few tracks would be fine, then start to get some noise on 5th track or so, then they skip like crazy past 10th track.
I take the same batch of CD-R and use my trusty old PB 12" 1.5GHz to burn the same music, and the CD worked great.
I'm hoping this is just a bad media issue (Fuji Film discs by the way), but seeing how my PB was not picky at all about blank discs I'm starting to wonder. Any thoughts or similar experiences?

From what i recall in these forums, the superdrive is really picky about CD models. Im using HP CD-R and they work fine. Its probably the type of CD you're using. And another way to prevent this is to not touch your computer at all while it burns, back in the old old old old old old old old old oldo ldo ld old days, remember when we had to basically not move the entire house we were in and let the burning soak up all the CPU% to get a good burn? XD. Id try a differant type of CD, just trade off some with someone else and test them.

  • Can not download any apps from app store with my first gen ipod touch

I am able to search for apps and maneuver around the app store, but i can't download anything. The button that says "FREE" or has the price of the app is unresponsive. There does not seem to be anything wrong with my screen since I'm able to use any apps I already have.
A google search turned up a couple of discussions from others that seem to indicate this is a recent issue.
I'm using a first gen ipod touch with the latest OS it can use.
Does anyone else have this problem?

For me the problem started on my IOS 3.1.3 Gen 1 iTouch sometime between my last purchase on 12/10 and a sync. So a sync didn't preceed it.   I discovered it when I tried to purchase an Audiobook. I can do podcasts, buy individual songs, but that's about it.  I can update apps so long as I do them all, although update has been like that for awhile. I can't buy apps (even free ones), audiobooks, or albums using the Touch directly.  I can't see many of the screen previews for apps and I can't review feedback on productcs either. I don't have any problems transfering purchases from my computer to my Touch using the iTunes app. I guess I eventually figured Apple might go here, but I sure haven't seen any announcement they were gong to do it now, so if it's intentional, it was sure done in an unfriednly way.  I'm a developer, so I understand having to move on, but my Gen 1 is no where near end of life, even if it can't run the latest IOS. I was an early adopter of the Touch, so I'm one of millions that helped IOS devices become popular.  I have newer IOS devices in the household under the same AppleID and another, and they work perfect.  But still use the Gen 1 daily. If this is the way going forward, I guess I'll have to buy on my computer or other devices and transfer to the Gen 1, but I'll sure miss being able to do it directly.  And I of course tried a factory reset and that didn't resolve it.  Given so many are having this issue, I'm pretty sure it's the older IOS or Gen 1 interacting with the Apple storefronts that's the issue. The question is, is it intentional by Apple, or Apple oversight with an update to the storefronts? If intential I can understand apps, but not sure about Music and Audiobooks other than possibly the older IOS is holding back new store features???

  • I can log on icloud on pc but when i enter password on my ipad mini first gen with ios8 it tells me wrong password. and i can receive mail but cannot send any mail via icloud, gmail, yahoo never had to set this up with ios7. how do i resolve this?

I updated my ipad mini first gen 32gig (4.3gig free) to run ios8 8.0(12A365) and i have a problem sending emails. i can receive mail but when i send it fails. my dropbox works fine, safari, and other apps work fine on the internet just the receiving of mail. Do i need to add a new outgoing server, though i dont remeber having to do this when i updated to ios7. how do i resolve this?

Here's a troubleshooting article from Apple:  iOS: Troubleshooting Mail
It doesn't seem to cover your specific issue, but have you tried using a different network (either a different wi-fi network, or switching from wi-fi to cellular or vice-versa if you have a wi-fi+cellular iPad)?
For GMail, iCloud and Yahoo, copies of messages are stored on their respective servers, so you could try deleting the account on your iPad, then re-adding each account one at a time to see if that resolves the issue.

  • My iPhone 5 is suddenly having audio issues through the headphone jack.

So this is a strange situation, and I'll try to explain in depth so that someone might be able to suggest a solution. As reference, I have an iPhone 5 that I purchased in late-February. I've had every other model of iPhone except for the first iPhone, so I am pretty familiar with the device. I used to be on AT&T, and switched to Verizon when I upgraded to the iPhone 5.
Two days ago, I was on a six hour road-trip, and I'd been playing my music like normal through my car's auxillary cable. After stopping for lunch, I went to plug my music again, but once the music started to play, I realized that only the drums were playing at normal levels while the vocals were very, very soft. I switched through a few different songs, and realized that all the songs were being played at different levels; sometimes the backup vocals were normal levels while the instrumentation and lead vocals were quiet, or vice versa. I decided to plug my iPhone in to charge, and when I did this, the audio levels were all normal. However, the iPhone was NOT charging. I removed the charger, and the audio went back to being weak and distorted. I went back and forth at this for a bit, trying to figure out what was going on.
Since then and after some testing, I realize that my iPhone will now only charge anywhere EXCEPT in the car charger (I simply use my USB cable that came with my iPhone and plug it into the power adapter I have in the car). This morning, I tested the audio in my home speaker system, and I had the same audio issues. Only half the song's tracks would be at normal audio levels, while the other half would be at a very quiet, almost nonexistent level. I tried plugging my charger into the phone to see if that'd make a difference, but instead of the audio going back to normal like it does in the car, the music stopped and there was just crackling and very noisy distortion sounds.
I'm super confused and not sure what to do. This has never happened to me with any of my iPhones. I am updating my software right now, and am hoping that that may help somehow. Otherwise, I'm at a loss. Any suggestions as to what I should do would be greatly appreciated!

Do the new iMacs have digital audio out through the headphone jack?
    Yes.

  • IPad first gen not turning on!

Hello, please help me!! My iPad first gen isn't turning on!! It's just a black screen. Tried resetting it and tried dfu mode but nothing!! When I plug it in to charge then the screen keeps flashing on and off, no apple logo just a black screen lighting up and switching off immediately and looping again. When I plug it out of charge then its completely unresponsive!! Not even lighting up!! Tried whacking it near the headphone jack but still not working... Is there a problem with the battery? Or the screen. I've never dropped it ever.  Itunes doesn't recognise it at all. Do I have to replace the battery or something? I really need help so please help me!! I'm going crazy!!
    thank you soo much

I went to to apple to fix it and they said it's the batteries problem so they did something and now instead of a black screen it has an apple logo!! It's progress!! But they said the battery is gone bad so I have to change it but apple is not allowed to do that so I'm guessing I have to do it myself... Oh well, thank you for your help!!

  • HP Slate 21 audio issue after KitKat update and reset

I have upgraded my HP Slate 21 from JB to KK. Now the sound quality is very bad!
I came directly from xxx.11 kernel and made factory reset but didn't get a good result. Please how can I fix this tremendous issue?

    Hey @PauloTxR ,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand you're experiencing issues with sound quality on your Slate 21 PC.
Please review the following thread: HP Slate 21 Kit Kat OTA Update Fix for Audio Quality and LAN Connectivity.
This fix will resolve audio issues of a software nature resulting in the KitKat update. If your issue persists after applying the specific update mentioned in this thread and have done a factory reset, the issue is likely hardware related and not the result of the KitKat update.
If you have done the above and continue to have problems please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the following link to get the support number for your region: Phone Assist Worldwide.

  • Audio Issues - Sound stops on youtube vid after a few seconds. Please Help?

What's been happening is weird audio issues, especially youtube  related though not only (other web video content has been messed up, but  mostly youtube). Right now I am using headphones (1/8" or 3.5mm)  through the back of the computer and when I turn on  the computer, at first I can hear sound from videos. When I open the  speaker icon mixer window in the bottom right, I see green bar moving  with the sound on the "speakers" mixer and "Adobe Flash Player" mixer  simultaneously.
Then after a few minutes or after having a few tabs open, all of a  sudden the audio stops. Oddly enough, usually the video keeps going even  thought the audio has stopped. I verified this wasn't a hardware issue  with my headphones by opening the Speaker Icon  Mixer window, and acutally was watching it at the moment the sound  stopped and saw the green bar disappear exactly when the sound stopped.
If I restart the computer, or firefox only sometimes (mostly need to  restart cpu though) then videos will play again with sound. Once the  sound stops however, if I open a new youtube video in another window, it  will sometimes cause an "An error occured.  Please try again later" crash.
I'm at a loss of what to do.
Running latest version of Firefox (26.0) and Adobe Flash (11,9,900,170  installed). Windows 7 64 bit system, Intel Core I7 Processor.
I have tried many things include "reset firefox", clear cache,  changing to an earlier version of Flash (11.3). Tried to update sound  cards. Even tried to restore computer to an earlier setting ( I only  went two days ago, could go farther back I suppose). When  I reverted back, the problem went away for a few hours but then came  right back.
I scanned pc with ESET online antivirus, no viruses, Malewarebytes  Pro, no issues. Cleaned with CC cleaner. Plenty of hard drive space  (using an SSD boot drive btw).
I am not very knowledable about plugins or "addons" or extenstions.  Nor do I know if it has anything do "Firefox Options -> applications"  (gives content type and then option...essentially a bunch of sound file  types and then which plugin plays it). I can  give my list of all this out if necessary but there are quite a few and  I dont know how to copy/paste that info so it would take. Even though  its gonna take forever to hand type these guys all out, I will give my  list of "plugins" that may be audio related:
    QuickTime Plugin 7.7.4 7.7.4.0
    RealDownloader Plugin 1.3.3.66
    RealNetworks (tm)
    RealDownloader Chrome Background Extensions Plug-in (32-bit) 1.3.3.66
    RealNetworks (tm)
    RealDownloader HTML5VideoShim Plug-in (32-bit)
    1.3.3.66 RealNetworks (tm)
    RealDownloader PepperFlashVideoShim Plug-in (32-bit) 1.3.3.66
    RealPlayer Download Plugin 16.0.3.51
    RealPlayer(tm) G2 LiveConnect-Enabled Plug-In (32-Bit) 16.0.3.51
    Shockwave Flash 11.9.900.170
Shockwave for Director 12.0.7.148 (for netscape plug-in)
Shockwave for Director 12.0.2.122 (for netscape plug-in)
    Silverlight Plug-In 5.1.20913.0
    VLC Web Plugin 2.1.0.0
When I open my device manager and look at "Sound video and game controllers" I see 4 options:
    1)AMD High Definition Audio Device
    2) Bluetooth Audio Device
    3) High Definition Audio Device
    4) Intel (R) Display Audio
I'm not sure what this means, if I have 4 sound cards or if they are conflicting somehow.
I tried to update drivers on each one. No change.  I've tried  "restarting firefox with addons disabled" and "check here to see if your  addons are up to date" (they were except VLC which I did update before  restoring to previous day and it didnt help).
None of the fixes work for me, same issues. Extremely frustrated!! Help?

I'm having a similar problem with flash audio. After a few minutes of watching a video or playing a game the audio cuts out but the video keeps working. The audio does not return until I refresh the page. The issue occurs regardless of which browser I'm using (have tired both Firefox and Chrome). Oddly enough, when the audio cuts out from whatever flash application is running, my entire system loses sound until I refresh the webpage or close the browser. For example, I was playing Minecraft with Chrome open in the background and suddenly the sound cut out from both. Once I closed the browser my audio came back. I realized that there was a graphic on the webpage that was flash based which likely triggered the issue.
I do not have any Real plugins.
Incidently I also have Intel (R) Display Audio listed in my device manager
Edit: I forgot to mention, this issue only seems to occure when I watch videos that have been uploaded recently. For some reason the audio does not cut out when I watch a video was uploaded a few months ago.

  • Audio Issues with MacBook Pro (Late 2008)

I am seeing an occasional issue with my MacBook Pro (Late 2008). The Audio will go out... and instead you will just hear static-like clicking sounds when and audio even happens. For example... when you have the up/down volume notification on... and you change the audio volume.. you hear clicks. Or... when you open up a file that has audio.. you will hear the static-like click when the audio starts to try to play.
The work around per-se is to completely shutdown and turn the notebook back on. A simple restart does not seem to fix it... it looks like the system needs to have a bit of energy drain first. Which... worries me that this is a hardware issue and not a driver issue.
Wondering how many others are seeing this???

I went to and Apple Support Center last week and I asked some questions about audio because my MBP was having troubles too. The tech told me audio issues are very frequent on these machines and sometimes you have to change a part of the soundcard. He also added you have to bring the MBP to a support center if you're having the problem several times - in my case I'm waiting the next "crash" since I had only 2 issues so far... If you're under warranty go for a check up and see if it really needs assistance. Goodbye
