Bad burn folder function
I keep getting an error when I try to burn a burn folder made up of folders on a PC computer on my LAN to a CD. Yes, it has to be that way, and why not? It's called playing nice with others. The Mac tells me that it can't find an item and asks me if I want to skip it and continue. But it doesn't bother to tell me which item. Out of thousands. Big help. Then I have to go and check almost every **** file list in every **** folder to find what is missing or corrupted. If it knows that files are missing, why would it have been so hard for Mac OS programmers to let us know what they are? I'm working on legal papers. Despite those cute commercials, OS X wastes hours of my time and makes me justifiably angry. This is one of those basic flaws that Apple should have the integrity and courtesy to fix gratis.

I agrre about the uncute commercials, but since you're working with "legal" stuff, perhaps you can tell me the last time, or approximate era, that a commercial had more than an extreme stretch of... uh-hmmm, the "truth" in it!?
Anyway, one long shot solution, since I've dealt with this silly "feature" myself in other ways...
I use Tri-backup4 for years for copying thing to other places, it in fact has a Log when you're done that shows the exact errors and files not copied, plys why!
Perhaps you could use it to copy stuff over before using the burn folder, not gree, but it's been worth efety penny to me over the years...

How do I remove a few files from a burn folder?
I cannot believe I have to ask such a simple question; WHY is everyhting so difficult and complicated with Macs?! I have a DVD in the Mac; I put a number of files into the 'burn folder' which appears automatically. It tells me there are too many files to burn (I have no way of calculating the exact amount to fill the DVD, so have to use trial & error).
On a Windows PC there would be a little button saying 'remove'; you simply highlight a few folders at a time & click 'remove' - & bingo - they vanish from the folder to be burned. But it seems I have to actually send these 'alias' files to the trash in order to get them out of the burn folder? I saw another discussion on here that suggests this will delete the original files? HOW stupid and badly designed is that?!! I tried sending some to the trash but this takes forever; it does not seem to have deleted the originals, but I would like someone to confirm this please - and please can someone tell me how to delete the contents / some of the contents of a burn folder if I've made a simple mistake in what I've added to it? There HAS to be some way of getting rid of files without deleting the originals - surely?!Pardon me for jumping in, but in my experience deleting an alias from a burn folder (or elsewhere) leaves the original intact. I don't know why deleting the alias files takes so long on your system - on mine, a mid-2011 mini with 8GB RAM running 10.7.5, it happens pretty immediately. I didn't initially like the Burn Folder concept, but since I've gotten used to it, it's OK - although it seems to add some unnecesary complexity if I want, for example, to move some (but not all) of the files in a folder onto a CD/DVD.
To delete aliases of files that I don't want burned, I (right-click) (control-click) (two finger tap) on the alias, then select "Move to Trash". That's not the only way it can be done, of course.
As baltwo used it, I think "WAG" is supposed to indicate a sort of guess. A "burning maven" would be a person with extensive knowledge of burning CDs and DVDs on a Mac. Since none have weighed in, there must be some sort of maven convention going on.
But, yes, what you've described should work fine. If you're super concerned about files being deleted when you delete an alias to them and don't have an up-to-date backup, just make a copy of the file (not the alias) in a different folder.

I transferred photos from my camera to burn folder on my macbook Pro. Made a DVD from the burn folder but it will not play on my DVD player. What am I doing wrong?
How did you do this burn? Did you use a program like iDVD? A DVD player requires that the data on the DVD is recorded in the proper format: MPEG-2. A program like iDVD will do this. There are other programs available that can do the proper coding (Roxio 'Toast' for example), but iDVD has the most features and is easy to use. It is no longer available from Apple, but if you search on Amazon, you can find 'iLife 11', a suite of programs including iDVD. It will function properly on Apple's current operating system, but it cannot make a High-Definition (Blue-Ray) presentation. It is Standard Definition only, as are all regular DVD's. One good way to present photos on a TV is to make a slidesow in iPhoto, then export that slideshow to iDVD, where it will be properly formatted for a DVD player. Or, iDVD can make its own slideshow of up to 99 photos. HTH.

Accesing file details of a burn folder

I would like to know if there is any particular function in cocoa or in c which can give me the original path of all the alias files inside a burn directory?
For example, if i have 2 files in a burn directory say aa.txt and bb.txt which are alias pointing to /Users/Shared/aa.txt and /Users/Shared/bb.txt, how do I get the path /Users/Shared/aa.txt from the burn folder? I tried using readlink but it doesnt seem to work for burn folders. Any help?

"Name is already taken" by a burn folder
When I burn a CD, I prefer to rename it to match the contents, such as "Birthday Party". That is a normal contextual menu option for any blank CD. If the burn fails, I can eject the bad disc and insert a fresh one, and it mounts as "Untitled CD". If I try to rename it "Birthday Party", I get the message "The name "Birthday Party" with extension ".fpbf" is already taken." The burn folder with that name cannot be deleted, but I can remove it from the sidebar. That doesn't change anything about the error. How can I properly remove a burn folder so the system forgets its name and allows me to reuse the name? Don't suggest that I restart. I know that will work. I simply want to know how to properly delete a burn folder so its name is forgotten by the system.
I do not get any message at all when I try to trash it. The folder simply does not move to the trash. I marked this solved before I tried the unlocking solution, but I am confident it will work. It seems counter-intuitive to have a locked by default action, since a burn folder should be editable. I thought that was one of the main ideas of a burn folder.

I can't move photos from iPhoto to my secondary hard drive or to a burn folder. I have never had a problem with this before. This is something new. They will not drop into either folder. Nothing happens.
I checked my secondary harddrive and there is plenty of memory.
I emptied my burn folder but the photos still will not drop into it.
I created a new burn folder, no luck with this either.
230 photos is the maximum size of the events I am trying to move from iPhoto to save elsewhere.
I have shut down and restarted my computer. No change. The photos still will not drop out of iPhoto.
My Mac Computer Storage shows that I have 62.2GB free out of 249.2GB (movies, photos and contacts taking up the most space)
My Lacie External Harddrive (2TB capacity) shows that I have 1.79TB available. It shows that 207,729,520,640 bytes (207.73 GB on disk) are used.
I have never had this problem before. It is usually very easy to move my photos from iPhoto.
I am not a computer expert (I work in surgery so don't have a need for lots of computer knowledge) so please explain in simple terms.

I really appreciate it.YES Terence! Thank you. Exporting allowed me to move my photos from iPhoto into the Burn Folder on my desktop. But that doesn't explain why I'm having to go that route now. Have I done something (accidentally changed some setting) on my computer that will not allow me to just click and drag anymore? I really liked the convenience of the click and drag option.
I don't have the time tonight to export and burn a lot of CD/DVDs. I'll try that tomorrow and make sure my photos are moving properly. I also need to export photos to my external hard drive to make sure that route is working.
Wouldn't you know that my Apple Care Plan runs out this Wednesday?! I need to make sure everything is working properly before that expires.

I have produced a number of DVD on my iMac. They are stored in a folder called Burn Folder. I want to get them into iTunes so I can play them on Apple TV. I have tried to convert them to MP4s using Handbrake but Handbrake does not recognize these files. I am stumped.
If you have the original movie files, you'd be much better converting those, otherwise try MPEGstreamclip.

How do I move an album, from iCloud to a burn folder
Opened my iTunes and all of my songs have the cloud icon, next to them. I wish to burn them to multiple cds, but cannot figure out how to put them into a burn folder. Nothing happens when I click on the download cloud button.

I have made a burn folder with photos exported from I-photo. It now shows in information, that the date created and modified is different from the original digitized date. How can I get the original date to show in the info from Finder?
The Finder reports File information. The date and time of the photo are in the Photo's Exif metadata. The Finder has no awareness of this. All photos apps on any system do.

Smart folder in iphoto to burn folder on desktop
Hi.
I set up a smart folder in IPHOTO (collecting all photo's taken on a vacation) and have set up a burn folder on the desktop.
I can't figure out how to get the smart folder to the burn folder. It won't move from within Iphoto or via the finder.
Is what I want to do possible in Tiger and Iphoto?
I have a new Macbook.
thanks in advance.If by :burn to the desktop: you mean copy, then no. You have to either select all and drag to a folder on the desktop or use the File->Export->File Export menu route.
If you want to burn directly to a disk with those images then click on the smart album and use the File->Export->File Export menu route but this time selecting the blank mounted disk on the desktop as the final destination.

Progress at List Folder function with many files in a folder
I use the List Folder function of LabVIEW and want to see the progress because it takes much time (20 sec) to load all the files in an array.
How can i do this?

Well, that would certainly do it, especially since you said it's on a server, hence a network drive.
In this case i was looking for a progress for the List Folder to use that in a progress indicator for the user.
Unfortunately, there is no built-in mechanism for this. Perhaps you can organize the files in such a way that you can get a list of them in "chunks", based on some search pattern. Or perhaps you can organize them in folders so that you dynamically populate the subfolders when a user wants to see what's inside.
Aside: having 3000+ files in a folder is a poor way to orgranize files, especially on a server, as this leads to a massive amount of file I/O and network I/O burden on the server. -
Lightroom 5.7.1, Yosemite OS X - Synchronise Folder function doesn't work in Lr.
Is there a compatibility issue? I can see the folders/images in Finder but when trying to synchronise folders in Lr it does not recognise that there are any images and therefore unable to import to catalogue. Anyone has any idea how to make it work. Thanks a lot.Hi Elba,

I am trying to perform the same function in Lr that I have been doing for many years in the past and has only been a problem in the last few days (possibly coinciding with upgrading to Yosemite, trying to find out whether that is the problem)
I am not intending to sync any files with Creative Cloud but only trying to use 'Synchronize Folder' function in Lr. Normally, I would right click on a particular folder in Lr catalogue and click on that function to check that the Lr Catalogue is perfectly matching my drives where the original photos are actually stored.
The problem that I only started to encounter is that I can see the files on the actual drives but they do not appear in my Lr Catalogue and they are completely invisible to Lr. I simply can not get Lr to recognise them and then import them to catalogue.
If for example, I export images to Ps and then save and close them, they do appear on my drive but are invisible to Lr and I can't get them imported into the catalogue. Import to folder also not producing any results as they are still invisible to Lr.
Completely baffled by it. Any idea what could be the reason?

How do I copy JPEGs that I see in "Preview" without getting aliases? I want to burn a new disk with copied originals, not aliases?
You can create a new folder and drag the originals into it and burn that as well, the "burn folder" concept just makes it easier to not to have to put everything away later.
Just delete the burn folder and your done. -
Blank CDR and DVD not shown in finder - impossible to burn from Burn Folder
Since I have installed Snow Leopard on my Imac, Blank CD's and DVD's are not seen in the finder. No matter what I select in:
Systempreferences > CD's and DVD's (ask task / show finder etc...) the discs do not appear (I tried with all sorts).
Yet the disks are seen in Utilities > Disk Utility and also recognized in System profile.
When I make a New Burn Folder, after getting the prompt: insert disk,and inserting, nothing happens. Then I cancel, and finally get the message "The disk cannot be used because it is not recognized". I get this message with any disk type.
Using the same disks, but burning from I-tunes, I-movie, I-DVD I have no problem at all.
The exact same things happens on my Macbook, since Snow Leopard has been installed.
Smells very buggy. Anyone knowing a solution?

I know that if I insert a CD I can copy files from my HD and paste them into the CD and then burn the CD.
But, I also want to take advantage of burn folders. If I make a burn folder and drag files from the HD into the burn folder I only get the aliases (I've heard this is what you do- simply drag and drop). What I want to know is if I go ahead and burn the folder will it burn the aliases or a copy of the original file. OR, do I have to do the same as with a CD i.e. make a copy and paste it into the burn folder. Thanks.Furthermore, if you get info on the burn folder it only will give the size of the aliases. Does anyone know how to find the actually size of all the contained files?
