  • Netstat not reporting input errors with packets that have bad checksums ?

    Greetings,
Is netstat not reporting any checksum errors ? I have a number of Macs reporting checksum errors when sniffing the local net. I would think that these should be reported by netstat as input errors, or collisions right ?
But it doesn't currently. See below for sample, its occurring across protocols, tcp, and udp. Usually this error is a bad ethernet port or cabling, and sometimes a sw issue. Working on eliminating the switches, router, and dsl modem by doing more testing.
But is netstat broke ? I havent seen any errors from netstat since @ 3yrs ago.
    length 64, bad cksum 0 (->f9fe)!)
One other question, can one monitor firewire 400/800 ports or usb with netstat ? Its not listed with man pages or netstat -h
    Thanks in advance

    Im am using two commands to view the data;
    netstat -I en0 2;
    (no errors in or out)
and tcpdump with the verbose -v argument
( reports the cksum ( these are CRC's right, not IP header checksum ? )
At the very bottom is the netstat -s output, otherwise a snippet of tcpdump ; replaced the IP's with xxxx's to protect the innocent
    Thanks for your help.....

  • RMI over different subnets causing TCP BAD CHECKSUM

I have a customer that is trying to run my system over different subnets and is getting large performance hits due to a TCP BAD CHECKSUM error that they have been able to monitor when they have the RMI server on one subnet and the RMI client on another.
We don't see the problem on our systems (because we run on the same subnets) as do all of our other customers.
We've written a little program that just does some simple RMI calls over the different subnets and are still seeing the TCP BAD CHECKSUM errors.
Is there some reason that they are seeing these errors when the two are on different subnets? Is there any way to solve this problem (as it is causing a big hit in our performance)?

It is certainly nothing to do with RMI. The most probable culprit is bad hardware between the two subnets.

  • "Bad checksum in disk label" & "Can't open disk label package"

    Hello,
    I'm brand new to Sun/Solaris.
    I have a Sun Blade 150, with SunOS 5.8.
I wanted to make a backup to prevent future data loss, so I put the disk in a normal PC with Windows XP to try to make a backup with Norton Ghost, the disk was detected, but not the file volume, so I place the disk on a desktop PC, and used Norton Ghost for DOS, the disk was recognized but once again not the file volume, so I wasn't able to make a disk backup, and I quit.
Put back the disk on the Sun Blade 150 PC, and then I was unable to startup the PC, showing the message "Bad checksum in disk label" and "Can't open disk label package".
    What's wrong?
    How can I solve this?
I need the data that's inside the hard-disk, so I cannot make a clean install, and i also don't have any install CD.
    Thanks for any help,
    JS

    Thanks for the fast response,
i did't allow WindowsXP to write anythink to the disk, but somethink is written, and I don't know what. So now, the Spark-System dosn't boot from the HDD and the data on the disk is very important for me! When I format the disk all data are lost, right?
Is there a way to "rewrite" the Disk-Label-Checksum? I have an original Boot-CD-ROM, another HDD to install Solaris and so one, but I need the data of the corrupted HDD. And I also have not really a glue to use Solaris or any other UNIX, I'm a Windows-User.........

  • Slow file transfer between Mac & PC Network - bad checksums?

Howdy all. I've been having a persistent issue with transferring files from my Mac to my Win2003 server. The transfers are always much slower than they should be (compared to the PCs on the network with lesser connections), but even more puzzling, is that it will often go to 95% (or thereabouts) and then take twice as long to finish the remaining percentage as it did to transfer the vast majority of the file.
It's all gigabit from point to point and I've swapped patch cables, router ports, etc.. with a known good performing WinXP box to see if that would make a difference, but it didn't.
I've searched the forums and found some mention of mysteriously slow file transfers using SMB, but nothing conclusive.
I ran a LAN monitoring util on the Mac during a xfer and below is a snippet of the results from the log. No dropped packets, but lots of bad checksums?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ed T.

While I have never tried it, Mac supports Firewire networking (TCP/IP over FW) and I know that some PCs do likewise. Mine does.
That being said, it's possible to link your Mac to your PC with a FW cable (both ends must be the large type of connector) and if so, you can transfer at 400 MB/s.
To enable FireWire networking on your Mac, in the Network preferences, at the bottom of the left pane, click the + sign and in the popup window, add Interface: Firewire.
As I said, I have never used it but in theory it would work. It's not at all like using the Target mode, this is a "hot" FW network link that can directly connect two computers.
    IMO, it's worth a shot.

  • TCP bad checksum

    Hi
Could someone inform me how a CSS 11500 handles a packet with TCP invalid checksum. I have two loadbalanced svrs behind a CSS and im seeing the and ACK with a bad checksum hitting the server VLAN interface of the CSS which appears to send RST 200 micro seconds later to the server but not to the client, Is this normal behaviour ?.
    Thanks in advance

    Stephen,
don't look at the interval with just the last packet.
The CSS will mark a flow idle if the interval between 2 consecutives packet is bigger than the idle timeout.
At that time, no reset will be sent.
But during the garbage collection process, the CS may reclaim resources hold by connections that were marked idle.
Even if the connection was not idle anymore, the CSS will destroy it if it was marked idle anytime in the past.
Moreover, for http connection, the idle timeout is 8 sec and not 16.
Finally, you can also check with 'show dos' to see if the css consider the connection as illegal - which would trigger a reset as well.
    Gilles.

out of the blue... i was playing an MMO, and my Windows Explorer reset itself back to default color (my custom color is red, it reset back to light blue)...and it ran the game slow. so i rebooted the computer, and bam, bad checksum. this was yesterday. been getting it ever since.

  • Bad experience with Verizon Fios Internet and Customer Service

I had an extremely bad experience with Verizon Fios Internet service and I will never use Verizon again.
In August 2014, I called and installed the Verizon Fios Internet and phone bundle. I asked the customer agent several times if I will be charged anything before the installation of the Internet and phone service. She said, 'No, we will only start charging after the Internet and phone are installed at your apartment'. I went to the store and picked up the router and phone and installed it at home by myself. The router did not work. I called Tech support and they said it will take several days for another available agent to come and look into the issue. I decided to discontinue the service and closed the account that same night.
At the end of the month, I received a bill of $80 of activation fee for the internet service. Nothing was ever activated, my internet router did not work, and I got charged an activation fee for a service that I did not even start using. From August to December, I called customer service over 10 times and some of them said they will waive it while the others said it's a non-refundable activation fee. One lady said, 'Ma'am, the activation fee starts when you placed the order, the warehouse received it and packed the router in the boxes....' Isn't that ridiculous? If that's the case, please ask all your customer representative to say a clause before new customers open their account: Are you aware that you will be charged a non-refundable activation fee once you open the account regardless of whether or not you use the service or not.
So after 3 months (November 2014), I decided to get out of all these troubles and paid off my $80 activation fee. They put the bill in the collection agency and I called them and paid the overdue balance. Then in December 2014, I received a statement saying I have a $3.11 overdue balance. The collection agency told me that they will charge me for the whole activation fee and a $3 transaction fee for the transaction. So now Verizon came back and said I owed them the $3 because I paid the collection agency their transaction fee.
I am very disappointed and furious about the whole Verizon operating system. Charging a customer for an activation fee for a service s/he has not consumed or used does not make any business sense. In addition, they do not know how to coordinate with the collection agency on overdue bills. Give the customer a heads-up that they will be charged a transaction fee on top of the overdue balance, and that transaction fee does not count towards clearing the balance.
I have completely lost my confidence in Verizon albeit the many good feedback from my friends.

    Hi crystallau52,
Sorry you are having difficulty. An agent with access to your account will reach out to you directly by email, private message in the Forums and/or the billing telephone number on your Verizon account for more information or to help you resolve your issue.

  • Hi gurus, can any one explain me about Badi & Bapi with eg.?

    Hi gurus,
Can any one explain me about Badi & Bapi with examples.
    Regards
    Raghu

    Hi Raghu
    1) Badis means:
The BAdIs of the enhancement concept are not treated as standalone objects, but are integrated in the overall concept. Thus, the tools for defining BAdIs are part of the Enhancement Builder included in the ABAP Workbench.
Transaction SE18, up to now the only entry point for defining classic BAdIs, now manages classic and new BAdIs. When an existing BAdI is displayed or changed, it analyzes whether the BAdI is a classic or a new one, and then switches to the respective tool. In the case of a new BAdI, this tool is the enhancement spot editor
    2) Bapis means:
BAPIs can be called within the R/3 System from external application systems and other programs. BAPIs are the communication standard for business applications. BAPI interface technology forms the basis for the following developments:
    Connecting:
New R/3 components, for example, Advanced Planner and Optimizer (APO) and Business Information Warehouse (BW).
    Non-SAP software
    Legacy systems
Isolating components within the R/3 System in the context of Business Framework
Distributed R/3 scenarios with asynchronous connections using Application Link Enabling (ALE)

I Made a bad desinstalation with adobe Illustrator cc, I put it in the trash can!

You cannot remove a PDF file from "adobe" --- there is no computer application "adobe".
There's "Adobe" the software house. There's "adobe" the earthen building material.
Anyway, you've a PDF that must go to the trash can (& not collect $200 when passing GO).
    Two frequently used processes are:
Like any file on a computer you can locate it via your OS's file browser, select it then press-release the "Delete" key on the keyboard. The files goes into the "trash can".
Like any file attached to an email you can select the attached file (PDF, etc.) and then press the Delete key on the keyboard. The file goes into the the trash can.
    Be well...

  • Grey screen issue with 10.5 & 10.5.1 - bad experience with Leopard

Here's a quick overview of my bad experience with installing Leopard:
*1st attempt:* Upgraded Tiger 10.4.10, was greeted with the blue screen. This was an APE issue.
*2nd attempt:* Archive and installed above install. This is where the continuing issue first occurred. The issue being on the first or second reboot after a 'successful' installation, I get the grey screen and spinning gear loop. In verbose mode I see this recurring loop:
    Mez com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.nDNSResponder |xxx|) : posix_spawnp("usr/sbin/mDNSResponder", ...): No such file or directory
xxx = incremental value, it adds 1 each time the error cycles, which happens roughly ever 10 seconds).
Additionally, Disk Utility reports this error: Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit.
*3rd attempt:* Erase and install. Same issue as 2nd attempt occured.
*4th, 5th, 6th attempts:* Bought a brand new hard drive to replace the old one. This was an idea that was raised on another one of my threads. People thought I could have bad sectors. Tried upgrading and archive install from 10.4, no. Erase and install, no. Same issue as before.
*7th attempt:* Tried swapping out the RAM from a friends MBP (who has successfully upgraded to Leopard). No, same failure as before.
*8th attempt:* Tried using his Leopard disk. NO!
*9th attempt:* My last attempt so far... Erase and install, then applied the 10.5.1 update. It all went well, but it always has, until the point where I reboot. It successfully rebooted once, but to be sure all was fine (before using the migration assistant) I rebooted again... Oh what a surprise, it doesn't work anymore. Same enraging loop.
*Any new ideas people, I have faith that there is some genius out there who can provide me with a solution. I will love you forever if you can help me.*
*Quick question:* Do other people see the dialogue box that appears before the computer restarts...
"Updating Boot Caches - The Boot caches are being updated, the system will shutdown when this task is complete" (It's sort of along those lines. I don't have enough time to write down exactly what it says)??
Oh well, back to my newest backup (10.4.11).
    *Fingers crossed for 10.5.2 :D*

    THANK YOU!!! At least preliminarily...
I've spent the last three hours researching and troubleshooting my greyscreen dilemma, and your post is the only one that seemed to work so far.
I installed Leopard 10.5 onto my G4 Dual 1.25 Mirror, successfully restarted after the install, then had glitchy problems including being unable to run Software Update or even run the Leopard Update after downloading it from the apple website. So I restarted the computer (after removing the Install DVD and shutting the drive door) and found myself stuck at the grey screen with the spinning ball.
Nothing worked. I couldn't do anything to get it to boot.
After researching, I booted into single user mode and ran mount -o rw,remount / # (from this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5796214&#5796214) and when I exited and it began to boot I saw it get stuck at mDNSResponder line prompt, repeating the line prompt every 5 seconds or so and never getting anywhere.
Then I found your post and changed permissions as you mentioned, exited and it booted up successfully. I then immediately ran Software Update and installed the Leopard 10.5.1 update and now all is well again.
Insane for this to be required. I barely know what single user means and would have sent this computer in to Apple if I hadn't found your solution.
Hopefully the next person who searches on this problem will find this and save themselves a horror story too. Thanks again.
    Jeff
