Bad cleardata performance on 64 bit (converted from 32 bit)

Hi All,
I've installed Essbase 64 bit (9.3.1) and copied an application directly from a 32 bit Essbase server (also 9.3.1).
All other components stayed the same.
Then i extracted all data and imported it into the new environment.
Calculating data takes a very long time in the new environment but the second time it goed a lot faster.
My issue is that when i execute a clear script it runs over 20 minutes. this was 2 minutes in the old environment.
All the settings are equal, servers are equal (except for the 32 64 bit difference), applications are equal etc.
Has anyone a suggestion why my clearscript is so slow?
The number of blocks are almost equal (due to some testing), the block size is equal but the .pag size differs a (16 vs 22 gb) and the .ind size differs a lot (1.5 vs 3.9 gb). the larger ones are the 64 bit environment.
I hope anyone has a clue where to look, because i'm lost.
Thanks,
Marc

cleardata is basically a read/write operation. I could be wrong but I think that performance is more closely tied to disk speed than bits or cpu. On the 32 bit system, was the data stored locally or on a sans? If it was local, were you using a raid array? How does the 64 bit system storage device differ?

    I have a difficult problem
Download the new Mountain Lion system, a system that supports fully 64 bit which is very good and the system supports two
But the problem lies in the usb FIFA Online, a company does not support 64
Operate on 32, but when it turned the device to 64 did not work
Tried to delete the program and inauguration did not operate purely Internet I can not find a clear answer
Is there a way I can reach them in order to operate piece or converted from 32 to 64
Here is a picture showing the problem

I have no knowledge of that program and can't comment on its specific features and deficiencies. But since 64-bit is the way of the future and Apple has made it abundantly clear after putting out two successive 64-bit systems, all software companies will have to accommodate if they want to stay competitive. Whether the upgraded versions of the programs remain free to their customers is a whole other matter.
Along the same lines, how much RAM does your Mac have? If it has more than 4GB, that may be the issue until a 64-bit version of your program becomes available. You see, with 32 bits only 4GB can be addressed and some programs get lost when facing more RAM than that.

  • My iPod Nano 6th Gen, Crashes whilst performing "Convert Higher Bit Rate to 128 AAC" in iTunes.

    Hi Guys,
    I have a 6 week old iPod Nano 16Gb.
I have about 2500 songs, which would be coming up to 18Gb, so instead of selecting which albums I want, I've taken the lazy approach and ticked the "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 AAC".
As you all know, it does the coversion on the fly, roughly about 8 sec on average per song. Being a slow Core Duo T2500, it takes its time and I have to leave it over night whilst it does it.
Come back in the morning and the watch had the 'White Screen of Death', displaying on the screen like the Apple IIe days of "OK to disconnect"
Then it goes blank and then it says iTunes (picture of a plug), under that, connect to restore.
Plug it into iTunes and it does a full restore with nothing in it.
I hope I explained it ok.
Im kinda think its not the Nano, as I've filled it up with music and photos to its capacity and works fine.
Would it be something to do with "Enable disk use", to stop it from connecting and disconnecting after syncing?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks Guys.

I have the same problem and can't seem to figure out what the problem is. I rebuilt my iTunes library and still my 6G nano crahes whenever I load an AAC tune onto it.  MP3s and podcasts all work fine, it's just the AACs...
Just *loading* an AAC song will cause the Nano 6G to reboot as soon as it disconnects from Itunes. It will then reboot a few times and then go into recovery mode. :-(

  • Applescript to convert from AW6 spreadsheets to Excel

    I have an iMac (iMac12,2) running OS 10.9.1 with applications of Pages’09 (4.3), Pages (5.0.1), Numbers’09 (2.3) and Numbers (3.0.1) available.
One of my laptops is a MBA (MacBookAir1,1) that I have kept at 10.6.8 with applications Appleworks (6.2.2) and Appleworks (6.6.9) available.
Recently, I converted many CWWP documents from AW6 into Pages.  This was done on the iMac with an Applescript that copied a file (AnyDocumentCWWP) to the desktop as a file named AWV6, opened AWV6 with Pages’09, saved the result as AWV6.Pages, applied the creation date and modify dates of the original to AWV6.Pages, moved the new AWV6.Pages to the original directory and moved the original file to the trash, renamed AWV6.Pages to the original filename (excluding extension).  The Pages version of the original document does not preserve the formatting of the CWWP, but the content was now discoverable with Spotlight.  Since I was primarily concerned with the content, I would consider the conversion effort successful enough.
I performed the same sort of process on the iMac with CWSS documents converting from AW6 into Numbers.  Here the results were less successful.  I discovered that many of the converted spreadsheets had cells where the cell contained the last calculated value in substitute for the formula originally present -or- Numbers was unable to open the CWSS spreadsheet due to size limitations.  Neither problem occurs when the file is converted on the MBA by Appleworks into an Excel format.  For those CWSS files that did not properly convert to Numbers, I would like to perform a conversion to Excel.
When a given spreadsheet is manually opened on the MBA with either version of Appleworks, one can “Save as” using several formats of Excel.  That operation will preserve the formula which cannot be recognized in Numbers’09. An example of this issue is when a spreadsheet has a cell that contains a formula with the function “ISNUMBER”.  When I manually open a CWSS in Appleworks (either 6.2 version), I can Save As Excel Win 97 … or Excel Mac 98 … creating an XLS file that preserves the formula.
I have attempted two techniques with Applescript to be able to convert my CWSS documents into XLS format.  Neither seem to work.
The first technique is very similar to a few lines extracted from a canned script found on http://macscripter.net/viewtopic.php?id=8296 the relevant code is:
set theSprTranslator to "Excel Win 97, 2000, XP 2002 spr"
tell application "System Events" to set mfpath to get path of disk item ("~/desktop/" as string)
set newfile to (mfpath & "AWV6" as string)
    set NewFilename to AWV6XLS
    tell application "AppleWorks 6"
        activate
open newFile -- alias reference is ok
save using translator theSprTranslator with NewFilename and replace
        close front document without saving
    end tell
When this did not work, I attempted a scripted GUI solution as a second option.  The GUI code I had found at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/17348326/applescript-to-save-an-appleworks-do cument-wont-compile-end-tell-vs-end-easy is:
    tell application "System Events"
             tell process "AppleWorks"
click menu item "Save As…" of menu "File" of menu bar 1
click menu button "File Format" of window "Save : AppleWorks 6"
click menu item "Excel Mac 5 spreadsheet" of menu 1 of menu button  "File Format" of window "Save : AppleWorks 6"
                     keystroke return
             end tell
    end tell
Unfortunately there is no “File Format” menu button, after a bit of further research, I discovered UI Browser and wrote my own Applescript equivalent:
    set mytempwork1 to AWV6
set theSprTranslator to “Excel Win 97, 2000, XP 2002 spr”
tell application "Finder" to open file (mytempwork1 as string) of the desktop
    tell application "System Events"
        tell process "AppleWorks"
click menu item "Save As…" of menu "File" of menu bar 1
tell text field 1 of window "Save : AppleWorks 6"
set value to "XX" & mytempwork1
            end tell
click pop up button 1 of group 1 of window "Save : AppleWorks 6"
            click menu item theSprTranslator
—click radio button 2 of group 1 of window "Save : AppleWorks 6"
            —delay 3
—click radio button 1 of group 1 of window "Save : AppleWorks 6"
        end tell
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
        tell process "AppleWorks"
delay 10 — <<<<<IF YOU CLICK ON THE BUTTON WHILE IN THIS DELAY, THE SCRIPT WILL BEHAVE PROPERLY
click button "Save" of window "Save : AppleWorks 6"
            delay 1
        end tell
    end tell
This GUI script behaves almost as I would like.  It seems to ignore the setting of the “pop up button 1” unless I actually intervene while the script is running and I click on the button.  When I do so, the script runs as intended.
Is there a way to force Appleworks to recognize the Applescripted value of the “clicked” menu item?

    Hello
As far as I know, there's no need to resort to GUI scripting. The problem in exporting in AppleScript is that AppleWorks 6 only accepts typeChar (TEXT) data as translator name while AppleScript string has become always being represented as typeUnicodeText (utxt) since OS X 10.5. This makes passing translator name to save command difficult but there's a workaround method as shown in the sample code below. The |TEXT|() handler does the job. Tested with AppleWorks 6.2.4 under 10.6.8.
    main()
    on main()
set export_translator to "Excel Mac 98, 2001 spreadsheet"
            "Excel Mac 5 spreadsheet"
            "Excel Mac 98, 2001 spreadsheet"
            "Excel Win 5 spreadsheet"
            "Excel Win 97, 2000, XP 2002 spr"
        set export_translator_TEXT to my |TEXT|(export_translator)
set src to (path to desktop)'s POSIX path & "in.cwk"
set dst to (path to desktop)'s POSIX path & "out.xls"
set srca to src as POSIX file as alias
set dsta to touch(dst) as POSIX file as alias
        tell application "AppleWorks 6"
            --return export translators
            open srca
            tell document 1
if document kind = spreadsheet document then
save in dsta using translator export_translator_TEXT
                end if
                close saving no
            end tell
        end tell
    end main
    on touch(f)
do shell script "touch " & f's quoted form
        return f
    end touch
    on |TEXT|(u)
            string u : source text
return data : «data TEXT...» representing u converted to MACROMAN encoding
        do shell script "u=" & u's quoted form & "; printf '%s' \"$u\" | iconv -f UTF-8 -t MACROMAN | xxd -p"
        run (run script "

        «data TEXT" & result & "»

  • How to convert 64-bit to 32-bit oracle 8.1.7

We are planning to upgrade our O/S version from AIX 4.3.3 to 5.2
The limitation is that AIX 5.2 and 8.1.7.4 64-bit are not certified. We are also running Oracle Financials 11.0.3 so we cannot upgrade to 9.2.X versions.
Can anybody tell me how to convert Oracle 8.1.7 64-bit to 32-bit? ( before upgrading to AIX 5.2)
Is there a performance degradation between 64-bit and 32-bit RDBMS?

Javed, I suggest you open an iTAR with Oracle support. For one thing I believe you will need a different binary. You may already have the install CD since I believe we received both and choose 64 bit.

  • Using the "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC" feature...

I recently discovered the "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC" feature and used it to copy my entire 70 GB music library to my 64GB iPad. The music library now occupies only 45 GB. Awesome!!!
Unfortunately, the whole process took well over 24++ hours on my quad core Windows 7 computer (takes about 6 seconds per track). Questions:
    1. Is it possible to speed up the process? Even though I am using iTunes 64-bit version, it seems that at no point is more than a single core being used at 33%. Seems to me like overall 8% of the CPU (33% / 4) capacity is being used for the conversion and 92% is being left idle. Is this just bad programming or is there anything I can do to speed up the process? Others see similar problems?
    2. Now I have already started dreading the day, I need to restore my iPad (e.g., when OS version 4 becomes available). I would hate to have to do this process all over again. Should I need to restore my iPad, is there anyway I can force iTunes to back up the 128-bit AAC versions on my computer and restore it up from there?
Any insights into both these questions will be deeply appreciated.
    Cheers,

So, I am wondering why iTunes uses only 8% of the processor power in converting the songs.
Possible reasons not to grab more of the CPU power (1) maybe the process is I/O bound due to all the writing, and is not processor limited? (2) since conversion is almost always a background program, and the user will typically have other things going on, maybe it intentionally limits CPU use?
I ran a few quick experiments (out of curiosity) and think the answer is #2. No apparent technical reason but potentially a limitation introduced by Apple's engineers to maintain a good user experience (for some people at least). I fired up 4 instances of dbpoweramp and ran multiple conversions and found that the process goes faster than what iTunes can do by an order of magnitude. With luck, someday Apple will have an option for users to select how much of processor bandwidth to be allocated for the conversion.

  • How to convert from RAID1 to RAID0 (Tiger 10.4)

I recently purchased an external RAID device with 1TB capacity (Maxtor OneTouch III). I'm planning on setting it up in a RAID1 configuration and using it as a 500GB backup device.
Accordingly, I no longer need RAID1 in my PowerMac. I'd like to convert from RAID1 to RAID0, so that I've got more disk space (500GB) and a little bit more performance.
What's the recommended procedure for doing this?

    Hi Zacharias;
I'm planning on setting it up in a RAID1 configuration and using it as a 500GB backup device.
When you say you are using this as a backup device, do you mean that this device will be the destination for back up from somewhere else or do you mean to use RAID 1 for backup of data?
If it is the first possiblity, that is fine.
If it is the second, that is not so good. RAID 1 is not a valid backup solution. It is for protection from failure of a hard drive. Let me give you a scenario. Let us say you are working in an application with multiple files open. The application aborts for whatever reason taking all of the files down with it. All of the files are now missing. How are you to recover with RAID1?
You can not. With RAID1, the files will have been removed from both drive as the application aborted. So you have no way to recover them now. Hence RAID 1 should not be used without backing up the data somewhere else.
    bit more performance
Generally, RAID1 not improve performance. It is RAID 0 that can sometimes give a preformance improve not RAID1.

I have a client who is planning to migrate their Linux server from 32 bit to 64 bit and migrate their Oracle database from 10.2.0.3 from 32 bit server to 10.2.0.3 from 64 bit server.
We have OWB 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.3) installed in the 32 bit server.
Our DBA is planning to move the entire database to the new server including the OWB repositories.
    My question is,
    Will the following work?
    1. Install the OWB 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.3 or 10.2.0.4) 64 bit in the new 64 bit Linux 64 bit server
    2. Remove all the OWB repository user schemas & roles from the database where OWB is installed
    3. Install the OWB repository in the new 64 bit server
    4. Import the .mdl backup of the project from existing OWB 32 bit to the new OWB 64 bit server
    5. Configure the project with the new server
    OR
Since our DBA is planning to move the entire database to the new server including the OWB repositories
    1. Install the OWB 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.3) 64 bit in the new 64 bit Linux 64 bit server
Will I be able to access my repository that is migrated from the 32 bit server (avoiding the installation of OWB repository and importing the project and configuring the whole project in the new server) ?
Please someone shed some light on this. Your help is appreciated

Does this mean, ... we have to install the OWB 64 bit and install a new repository in the 64 bit server? In my opinion you don't need to create new repository.
After migrating database to 64bit perform steps from Metalink note 434272.1 "How To Update Warehouse Builder 10.2 After A Database Cloning".
It is better to save the same path for new OWB 64bit software. If you install OWB into different path you need to update OWBRTPS table with new path to OWB software (look at metalink note 550271.1).

    1) convert the image to 32bit
    2) use the ROI tools I to get the rectangle data I need
