Bad codec at OSX 10.6.8

hey guys, i'm runnng on OSX snow leopard 10.6.8 an using AE CS5
here is whay i've installed into my rig:
- perian 1.2.3
- the latest version of VLC media player
- quicktime 10.0 (native from OSX)
ok so here are the problems:
1) i was about trying to play the .avi format in Quicktime ----> the result is:
    - video glitches which means the video is jagged/pixelate
    - audio is on
2) 2nd attempt: using VLC media player--->the result is:
    - video looks normal and no more glitches, BUT it plays "laggy"
    - the audio is faster than video, so it's not syncronize well
any help would be awesome
Thanks in advance!

sorry i'm new in Mac, how to uninstall perian?
so there's no hope to playing AVI in OSX up until now? that's pretty annoying
there is a relation to AE, because i'll be using it for AE
AVI is dead. It hangs on only through laziness and market saturation at the amateur level.
AVI is an ancient family of codecs that was never adequately supported on the Macintosh very well..
Convert your AVI files to a Macintosh-friendly codec using any of dozens of transcoders. You will be happier with the results even on Windows machines.
Perian is easily researched on google. It comes with some plugins and comes with some applications. Contact the publisher's web site for more information that will satisfy your technical inquiry.

  • Where do I find USB Audio codec in OSX 10.6.8?

I need this for a Pyle USB tape deck (PT-659DU). Audacity is the only program that can be used with this deck and they show clearly how to use Audacity with     USB PnP devices,as this deck is one. This screenshot shows what I need to do.(find the USB Audio codec, and get it to show in the Audio setup in Sound

My last post to myself is wrong.I received a response from Audacity with USB audio Codecs support for Mac OSX on intel Macs.

    From Audacity:
Sorry, but that is just not true:

It must be PPC only to work with Audacity.Ask any user with problems finding this codec to install and you will find they have an intel based Mac.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Add to your list of unsupported Cassette players. Pyle PT-659DU. There will be other models similar to this one with the same issue.I had to go analog RCA to work properly with Audacity.
    See:  http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/User:BillWharrie/OSX_and_USB_input_devices
Pyle devices most likely just use the Mac's USB audio class driver as above.
However if your device's manual says you need to install a special driver for
    Mac, you should do that.
In many cases, it's as simple as replacing the USB cable.

  • How can i find out if i have a bad codec affecting after effects?

hi all, i'm having all kinds of problems with after effects cs4. the current problem i'm having is i'll be working on a project, it starts to slow down and become unresponsive, i try to save but then it crashes and everything i've done is lost. opengl is off but i don't think that's the problem because opengl isn't affecting any of my other programs like cinema 4d and i even tried taking out the opengl from the plugins folder but i was still getting opengl error messages with certain effects like the rotoscoping effect. i was wondering if maybe this might be a codec problem since i heard that ae loads codecs at start. how can i find out if a corrupted codec is affecting my after effects?
    after effects cs4

i'm pretty much desperate to get this working as it's essential to my work flow and i can't afford to get a new computer right now (i should have bought a mac, now i know) so i'll try anything if you have any suggestions. thanks!

    >how can i find out if a corrupted codec is affecting my after effects?
You remove them all! ;-) I think you are going about this the wrong way.
a)If you ever installed any third-party CoDecs manually, they will be listed in the "Add or Remove Programs" section or have an uninstaller.
b)If those CoDecs were auto-installed e.g. via a web-browser, they will leave traces in the extension lists or even appear as separate entries somewhere as well.
    c) If the CoDecs were part of a program, then by all rights, you really should know which programs those are and know how to remove them.
Failing that, simply uninstall Quicktime completely. Reinstall it from scratch. Likewise, manually download a full install of Windows Media Player and reinstall it using the "Repair" option. Everything else is pure specualtion - AE may scan your CoDecs on startup, but if you never import any footage using them, they will not be initialized and not cause trouble.
And honestly: That Mac talk is not worth a dime. Final Cut Pro alone comes with 30 or so extra CoDecs, many of which have been known to be just as troublesome to use with Adobe products and you can encounter the same situation easily any time...

  • I Killed Quick time (going to reinstall OSX and need ac3codec for mac)

    Hi,
I killed my quick time. I have a video file I want to play (a project I'm working on with others.) anyway, it has 5.1 audio. The video plays, but no audio. I put the file on the XP and still no audio. I played it on Divx player. It says I'm missing Tag 8192.
So after a quick Google, i get ac3codec for the XP, install... and i get the audio on the XP with the video.
Off to find the codec for the mac...I found a file, i forget where i got it, placed it in the /libary/qucktime. and none of my .avi files will play any more, just a white screen. my .mov files seem to work fine. I remove the codec, and QT is still busted.
In reading the fourms here, it seems Quicktime is part of OSX, so there is no real, uninstall...reinstall thing, is that correct? Unless there is another suggestion, I plan on reinstalling OSX tonight. This should restore QT.
Also, is there a ac3codec type thing for the mac?

Ok, i'm getting really bent. I don't get how these played before and now they don't. I'm still not getting it to work.
Here is the movie format: XVID, 608 x 272, Unknown
I went here to get a codec: http://www.xvidmovies.com/mac/
i down loaded the codec for OSX
I end up with a file called: XVIDDelegate and i put in in the root of the HD\Libary\QuickTime.
    Still does not play.
    there is an instruction file.
"First you need DivX 5 (http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/). Then, if you are
on MacOS X, drop "XVIDDelegate.component" into /Library/QuickTime, or if
you are on MacOS 9, drop "XVIDDelegatePPC" into your Extensions folder
    and restart."
So i go to dvix.com, and it seems i have to pay $20. I'm really confused, maybe its just frustration blinding me. Most of my avi files played, now they don't.
    Thoughts?

  • Looks good in FCE but DVD looks bad

Hi Guys hope you can help, Have FCE, imports from sony handycam , everything looks good and tight in FCE but when exported to iDVD the finished product looks terrible, hard to describe but looks blurry, almost a ghosting to motion shots, this doesn't do it when I burn from iMovie, I've tried different setups in easy setup with no luck, However I did ( out of frustration) export back to tape and then import into iMovie and then burned from there and it looked much better, please help, thank you

Thank you for responding so quickly, I'm not sure what you require for spec on the Mac but it's a Mac Pro with Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: Mac Pro
    Model Identifier: MacPro1,1
    Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
OS isMac OS X 10.5.4, FCE is version 4, Quicktime is version 7.5, iMovie is version 7.1.4
Sony camcorder is DCR-SR42( 1/6 type) CCD 680,000 pixels, this is a non-tape type, internal harddrive. Note: I also have a Sony DCR TRV 310 tape type that FCE does see and able to control, Clip info says Compressor = DV/DVCPRO- NTSC Data rate = 3.6MB/sec
FCE doesn't see the Sony DCR-SR 42 camcorder when I connect ( via USB) but iMovie does, so I download into iMovie, clips come in as a .mov, clip info says 720x480, FCE clip info says : Creator =Quicktime Player, Compressor= Apple MPEG-2 SD camcorder Video, Data rate=1.2MB/sec, Frame size= 720x480, Vid Rate= 29.97 fps.
So files in iMovie, I open FCE and import files from iMovie , tried using the XLM export from iMovie and it does work however after doing compared testing on test DVD the imported files looked better than the XLMs. I have the easy setup using the DV-NTSC as that's the only one that comes close to what I'm using, same goes for when I export, I export using the Quicktime export with self contained off.
I have iDVD set to professional encoding, (ya I know , iDVD not that professional) when final burn is done and played on a DVD player on a LCD the finished video is really low resolution quality, the content is of a football game ( my sons) using tripod of coarse, but the images are rough, blockly, looks like really bad codec or wrong codec or wrong conversion type or too much compression. I have done other DVD's with iMovie from tape camera that look alot better than what I'm getting from FCE, Please help, what I'm I doing wrong, thank you

  • Reinstalling OSX to new drive

I recently received a brand new shiny Mac Pro (thanks to AppleCare) after my G5 went belly up. It came with only one 500GB drive and 1GB of memory. I upgraded to a total of 5GB of memory and put in 3 additional 500GB drives. 1 WD SE16 for backup of main drive and two WD RE's striped RAID 0 for storage needs.
From the very start I was noticing problems. After starting it up for the very first time I got the dreaded spinning beachball. This was during the simple set up of the computer. After a minute of spinning I clicked off to the side and it finally came back to life, skipping one of the setup screens. Things seem to be acting very buggy. Safari has crashed. Photoshop has missing buttons. After Effects...don't even get me started with that. IPhoto has greyed out selections when it shouldn't be.
Now I know that After Effects has its problems. I've researched and realize I'm probably going to have to upgrade to CS3. But everything seems off.
I've run Apple Hardware Test (both regular and extended) and everything comes up roses. I don't know if it was a bad install of OSX or if somehow the original drive from apple is faulty.
I would like to do a fresh install (not a clone of the original HD) of OSX onto the WD SE16 and install some apps and see if there is a difference.
Can I just put the install disc in and tell it to install the OS to the WD SE16 without harming/erasing any of the other drives?
If I can do this is there anything I have to do to make sure that the computer starts from the correct HD?
I appreciate your time and input. Thanks.

Can I just put the install disc in and tell it to install the OS to the WD SE16 without harming/erasing any of the other drives?
Yes. Just be aware that you need to boot from the installation DVD to install to any drive, even though it's not the boot drive.
I can do this is there anything I have to do to make sure that the computer starts from the correct HD?
When it reboots after the installation it'll be set to boot from the drive it installed to. If you're concerned you can hold the Option/Alt key and manually select it but it'll do the right thing.

  • How to tell which codec

I have an .avi movie that Premiere imports only as audio and not video. This video plays also bad on Windows Media Player or Winamp (same problem, only audio), but plays well on e.g. All Player. So it is probably a problem with codec, which only All Player read..
So I have a question: how to recognize which codec is used? I thought avi is just avi, but found out on these forum that more people had this problem and the solution is always: bad codec. Is there a method/program that would allow me to check which codec was used for this particular video ? Unfortunately All Player does not show information about codec, only size and fps of the movie. So what I think about is a program that would open the clip and recognize which codec was used and display this information. Is there such a program? All I want to know (for now) is the name of the codec. Knowing the codec, it will perhaps be possible to re-code in some other program to a format suitable for Premiere..

Does it open with Quicktime? If so, in the Quicktime window, under the window menu or control + j, choose "show movie properties".
I've had this same problem (audio, no video) with files brought to my PC from a Mac that are encoded using the Apple Intermediate Codec.

  • MacBook Uni OSX 10.64, Slow 40+min boot, frequent crashs, bootcamp fine

Bought a used 13inch Macbook uni body, looks exactly like the new pro… system came with after market ram and hard drive, I am a new user to the Mac platform.
    Issues;
    *Slow boot*
    - displays white spinning wheel for 1 hour, loads partially then freezes for 15 mins.
    *Frequent crashes*
    - Crashes randomly … mostly when doing too much … even crashes when only running one of any browser… viewing finder … or searching anything.
    *Will not load some utilities*
    - cannot load users, disk utility ect
    *Won’t reboot*
    - wont reboot, just displays background image with not icons … shows mouse, sounds quite.
    *First noticed;*
    - I first noticed an issue when I saw a update, … walked away during the process’s and noticed the system was stuck (see wont reboot) … decided after some time to hard boot … then system hung for 40 mins in white screen.
    *Other information;*
    - Luckily enough the used computer came with boot camp, I am a gamer when then system first ‘hung’ in OSX … I could still game ect … but the issue got increasingly worse … made me think it was hardware … but in boot camp I can save, install play half life to my hearts content with zero issues … boots fast ect.
    *Solution / question;*
    - Fix issue without reinstalling (down time is bad) or reinstall osx… if re-installing OSX … could I backup my existing installed software?

Everything that is going on with your MacBook makes me think you have a bad ram problem except for bootcamp behaving normally which makes me think it is a hard drive corruption problem, but it could be both.
If you can get it to stay up long enough to run Disk Utility from the utilities folder under applications, I would start there. Run it in repair mode under the first aid mode and it may solve some problems.
If your system is too unstable, you may need to use an external bootable volume or bootable DVD. The original OS X installation disks would be one option and you may have a TechTool Deluxe DVD if the original owner got an Apple Care plan and passed the disks along.
You can boot from an external volume or DVD by setting them as the start up disk in the system preferences under the apple menu if your system is stable enough for that, or can force to boot from the DVD by holding down the C key while you boot.
If you boot from the the installation DVD you could connect an external USB hard drive and install a fully functioning installation of OS X on the external drive. If the system remains unstable when booting from DVD or external hard drive, you have a hardware problem, possibly the RAM if it has been replaced. If you are stable from another boot volume, I would then run Disk Utility, TechToolDeluxe if you have it, and probably Memtest which is available as a free download from the internet.
The RAM could still be the problem as MacBooks are somewhat notorious for acting funny if they have the wrong RAM installed. The unibody MacBook has 2 RAM slots and takes 1066 MHz DDR3 SO-DIMMS. You can select about this mac under the apple menu to get some of this info and then select more info to get the system profiler and select memory to get more details. This model officially supports up to 6GB of RAM (one 2 GB and one 4 GB) but I have been running with 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) with no problems. If the RAM is the wrong speed and is not 1066 or 1067 MHz when listed in the system profiler, or is not fully seated when installed it can cause some funny behavior.

  • IPhoto just spinning-HELP!!

I just updated to iPhoto 9.2 and have the latest version of OSX Lion. After updating, I tried opening iPhoto and it told me that it needed to update the library. Then it just sat there and spun for well over an hour. I force quit the applicaiton and tried another smaller library (I have several photo libraries). Same thing. It just spun and would not respond. I then created a new empty library and tried opening that one. Same thing again. Just spinning with no response. I read in other postst that there are a few bad codecs in the Quicktime folder that can cause problems, but did a search and don't have the ones that supposedly have issues. I even trashed iphoto and re-installed from the iLife '11 disc, updated to version 9.1 and then tried to open the library, but it apparently has already been converted to work only with 9.2. So I again updated to 9.2 and tried again. Same thing: iPhoto won't launch, even with an empty library. It opens the initial window and then just spins forever. PLEASE HELP!!! I have not upgraded to iCloud services so perhaps there is some issue with Iphoto's photostream not knowing what to do?

    OK -
I solved this from looking at Henrik7's comment on this post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/15645957#15645957
I would NEVER had thought of this: I opened Activity Monitor (in Utilities) and then clicked to show All Processes. Then found a process called MassStorageCamera (it was a hidden process) and then force quit that process. Now iPhoto starts up fine. Apparently this process was somehow hanging up iphoto. I do recall that the issue started when I was trying to download photos from a camera. WOW - how was I supposed to know this was the issue. Thanks Henrik7!!!!

  • Macbook Pro Freezing

I have a 2008 MacBook Pro. It ran fine a few months ago before I wiped the HD to reinstall OSX 10.7, I just wanted to clean it up and start over. Since then, it hasn't worked right. After about 15-20 mins of use, it will freeze completely. Mouse won't move, doesn't respond to the power button or any keyboard command.
I figured maybe it was a bad install of OSX 10.7 so I installed 10.5 on it from the original disk that came with it. Same results. If I run the diagnostic memory tests from the startup disk, it tells me everything is fine. If I run disk utility, it verified all disk permissions and said the hard drive appears to be ok. So what is going on? Running from the OSX 10.7 recovery sector on the Mac, it installs just fine. But coming off the Hard Drive, it freezes after about 15-20 minutes so my first thought is possibly a bad hard drive. But that wouldn't entirely explain how it ran just fine before I had wiped out the hard drive, and now it won't. I'm in safe mode right now and its running just fine. I pulled up the console and copied the log. You can see at around 9:00:00 where the computer was rebooted in safe mode. Before that, I had started it up as normal, started running system updates, left for a few hours, came back, and it was frozen. Can anyone figure out where the fault is? I'm completely lost and HATE using my old windows PC for daily use, I just want my Mac back

I'm willing to bet that this has something to do with iCloud.  I've been facing a frozen computer nearly every time I go into it.
In Activity Monitor I have seen two programs associate with iCloud that take up about 2.5 GB of memory (I only have 4 in the computer) -- causing everything to freeze.  One of these is called "iCloud Helper" and the other one is something like "Address Book Sync helper" -- I see parts of these names in the stuff you have posted.
I am at my wits' end with these and have written to Apple asking them to do away with these or fix them.  To get rid of the Address book sync thing I have gone into system preferences for iCloud and unchecked Contacts -- but then spontaneously it gets rechecked.  And oftentimes after I Force Quit the iCloud helper, it spontaneously turns on again.  My conclusion --- the iCloud is basically unusable.  It turns a Mac into the most useless, clogged, sluggish PC.  If this is happening to a lot of people's computers -- and I see no reason why yours or mine should be an exception -- these programs just might destroy Apple itself.
So -- I'm about to completely give up on iCloud, and I suspect that others will too unless this gets fixed.
    Cheers,
    Bob

  • Telepresence client 4.8, No incoming video / Not receiving audio on a Mac - Windows is OK

Hi, I'm using the Jabber Telepresence client v4.8.8.18390 on a Mac - Yosemite 10.10.2
It used to work fine, but something has changed and now I can't receive video or audio. The call seems to initiate, local camera is in use, but then get the messages "no incoming video" and "not receiving audio", as shown in the attachment.
It works fine on my windows client, v4.8, so I know my account is fine, and i'm using the same settings to connect to the server - so this seems to be a local issue.
If i downgrade to v 4.4 then I can receive audio, but still no video, and 4.6 or 4.8 are both broken in the same way.
I think this may be something along the lines of conflicting / bad codecs installed on the mac - but can't find a way of tracking that down.
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sam

Does your camera/audio/mic work with other software such as Skype or YouTube, etc?  Are you sure this is a Jabber issue versus a PC problem?
Have you tried the newer 4.7 client?
    I see Windows 8 is supported;

  • My avi video files are no longer supported in PRE9? Help!

I created a movie in premiere elements 9  several months ago.  My video was imported from avi files on my computer.  The avi files were originally downloaded from my camera.  Everything was fine and I even burned a near finished copy of my project on a DVD.  Now, several months later, I open up the project to put my final touches on it and notice that all the avi video files are red in the timeline.  On the organizer tab for my project under media type, it says, "offline".  So, I clicked on the avi file and it asks me to find it.  I find it (the files have not moved) and click on it and I get this error, "Error Message. This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed."  This is very strange.  Do you have any ideas? My operating system is Windows 7.

I kind of suspected MJPEG (just a hunch, as two other CODEC's, commonly wrapped in an AVI, DivX and Xvid, seldom every play correctly to start with).
Now, there are many "flavors" of MJPEG. It is an older CODEC (or really type of CODEC, as there are so many versions), that was ressurected for use in mostly (then) stills cameras, with video capabilities added. It is not a bad CODEC, but each camera mfgr. has tweaked it for their purposes. This can create issues. MJPEG is not the "universal," that say DV-AVI Type II is. Canon will have a version, Nikon another and Panasonic yet another. They all show as MJPEG, but will be a bit different. A similar analogy can be drawn with Camer RAW files - Canon's differ from Nikon's, which differ from Panasonic's, though they are all Camera RAW. Also, Nikon, for instance, is constantly changing what is in their NEF (Camera RAW) files, so that the newest will require the latest release of Adobe Camer RAW (ACR), to be processed in Photoshop. MJPEG is similar to that, with fewer variations - but still individual variations.
Now, there could well be reasons that things have changed. The first one to strike me would be that you installed the software that came with that camera, and included its specific version of the MJPEG CODEC, then later removed say the camera's utility, taking that specific version of MJPEG away. You might well have others, but PrE is having a hard time matching them up.
In that article I linked to on MJPEG, I mention two popular MJPEG CODEC's, Morgan and MainConcept. Both are rather generic MJPEG CODEC's, and when MJPEG resurfaced, they worked fine for most such files. However, as time has elapsed, and camera mfgrs. tweaked and tweaked, they are less likely to work 100%. Once, they were the "silver bullet" for MJPEG - but not so much any more.We began seeing more users, with either, or even both, still having issues with newer MJPEG CODEC's. As most camera mfgrs. ship a copy of their specific version, somewhere along with the camera, it became common practice to recommend installing that specific version from the specific camera's utility disc. Unfortunately, that was not always easy to do. Some included their version of MJPEG as a separate installation (best way, IMHO), but many incorporated it into the camera's driver installation (still good), and then there are those instances, where the specific version of the MJPEG CODEC is installed along with other utilities on the disc, such as maybe a little editing program, or a file cataloging utility. Scant mention is ever made of the specific MJPEG CODEC, and how it is installed on one's system. The latter method seems to be the most common now. I have the full utilities, including the camera's own editing programs, installed for my Canon, my Nikon and my wife's Panasonic. That means that I have at least five (think that the total count is eight on my workstation) MJPEG CODEC's: one for Canon, one for Nikon, one for Panny, one Morgan and one MainConcept.
What camera produced those MJPEG AVI files?
Do you have that camera's editing and cataloging utility installed?
Do you have the utility disc for that camera?
Have you removed any such editing, or cataloging utility, between the time that the files worked, and when they did not?
I do not believe that any version of PrE actually installs any version of MJPEG (could be wrong here), though they work with, and include various other MainConcept (mostly MPEG) CODEC's. That means that one will need to install an MJPEG CODEC, and the one specific to that camera, might be required.
You obviously do have an MJPEG CODEC (or more), installed in your OS. As there is a vast difference between playback of an AV file, and editing that same file, it could be that PrE is just not able to use the installed version, with those files. As it once was able to edit them, I am guessing that something has changed, and it could be as simple as cleaning out one of the supplied utilities for the camera, that also removed its specific version of the MJPEG CODEC.
As PrE does not install the specific version of the MJPEG CODEC, many recommend not trying to edit such material. I am not of that mindset, but do allow that one might have to do some extra work (and work that is NEVER outlined in the camera mfgr's literature - unfortunately), to get things to work. I had to install a bunch of programs, that I will never directly use, just to be able to edit the MJPEG AVI's from my family's cameras, in both PrE and PrPro. I hate having to do that, as it fills up my HDD with stuff, that will otherwise never be used - but I need the specific CODEC, and it's only available to be installed WITH other software - all too common nowadays, and a mistake on the part of the camera mfgrs. IMO.
Good luck, and I hope that with the specific MJPEG CODEC, you will be back up and editing your footage, as you were once able to do.
    Hunt
PS - sorry for writing an entire encyclopedia there, but MJPEG is not as simple as it could be.

  • Soundbooth cs4 will not launch in wondows 7

I have been using CS4 production premium since the end of February.
At that time I opened Soundbooth several times just to take look and  learn the landscape. That was several months ago.
I am now at the point where I would like to learn Soundbooth and when I tried opening it, the application would launch to the point where it reads that it is " loading player media core.pm".
When it reaches this prompt the application goes away. It does not lock at that point, it goes away.
I have tried most of the other applications in the production premium package and they all launch.
I am running windows 7 on an HPz800

When it shuts down at this point, it's either a bad codec in Windows, which isn't very likely or you'd have seen sound problems elsewhere, or something in the SB install has become corrupted, namely the interface to the media core.
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling SB from the Production Premium discs?

  • Choppy, stuttering video after Microsoft Office 2004 11.2.5 update

    Is anyone else experiencing this?
    Here's a brief story:
I'm on my second MacBook (first one had a squishy mouse button that was replaced by Genius Bar). When the Apple OSX 10.4.7 update came out, I upgraded. The video performance became awful immediately. Anytime I minimized a program (or clicked on it in the dock to un-minimize it) it would stutter and zoom up very choppy, almost seeming like the video wanted to freeze, but wouldn't quite get there. Sometimes scrolling using Firefox or Safari would get choppy too. Then I found out that the inital OSX 10.4.7 update was missing a few files (Open GL, I think). I reinstalled that update off of the Apple website and all was dandy.
Then, the other day, my Microsoft AutoUpdate ran and told me to update to Office 2004 11.2.5. I did. Immediately, video performance went into the tank again, just like when I first upgraded to the bad version of OSX 10.4.7. Minimizing programs was choppy and stuttering again and for a short while I had funky horizontal blue snowy lines when switching tabs in Safari and Firefox. That has since gone away, but the choppy video performance remains.
Anyone experiencing the same since updating Office 2004 to 11.2.5? Anyone have any suggestions?
Help. I love this MacBook, but it's performance is annoying me.
MacBook 2.0 (upgraded 100GB 7200RPM and 2GB Ram) Mac OS X (10.4.7) Thinking 'bout another MacBook
MacBook 2.0 Mac OS X (10.4.6) Thinking 'bout another MacBook
MacBook 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Thinking 'bout another MacBook

The updates are not cumulative. You need to download
and install each update from 11.2.1 thru 11.2.3.
Kappy: I tried downloading and installing 11.2.1, with the plan to download and install the other two if 11.2.1 worked. And the program verified upon completion that the installation was successful. However, when I tried to trash the 11.2.1 installation folder as instructed, I got an error message saying that I "did not have sufficient privileges" for the maneuver, and when I opened Word to see what version of Office 2004 I had now, it just said 11.2, not 11.2.1. So I guess my efforts to keep up with modern technology are doomed after all.
On the other hand, since I'm a home-office user and the only one using the application (i.e., I'm the Administrator, but not on an Exchange), I guess there's no harm in not having the updates. Since the issues the three patches resolve seem to be mainly Exchange issues, I don't really need them. But I do appreciate the helpful information from you and Bob Gold--thanks very much.
