Bad conform of DVCPROHD clip?

I shot a clip with 50fps in 720/25p with Panasonic HVX200 and I have to conform the clip into 25fps so that FCP can read in slow motion.
After make the conform and opened the file in FCP, all is ok, the clip appears to be 960x720 but the problem is if I open that file into Motion or Shake the resulation of the file is 480x360. The info in Quicktime just tell me that the file have 480x360.
What happen? I need this file in true DVCPROHV real size.
Just a note, I'm in a PAL zone.

As part of clearing out space, I'm trying to move some movies to my external drive. I have noticed in the past however that iDVD files are not very fond of being moved, or of any file remotely associated with a project's contents being moved. If I have a folder which contains a DVD project and its associated movies, will it work after it's moved? Or will its criteria for referencing where certain files are suddenly have been proven false? Additionally, in general is there any way I can reduce the contriction iDVD makes on the mobility of movie files? Or if I want to keep a project for future burning do I need to keep all its files in the same place?
Lastly, why are some iDVD projects gigabytes in size wheras others are a few hundred megabytes (with similar amounts of footage)? Do some include the movies within the file, and other merely reference them as described above? I'll also post this question in the iDVD forums if need be, but I suppose its somewhat related to iMovie. (iDVD 6 by the way)

  • Command to Re-Conform a specific clip?

    I have a project with many R3D files(Red One and MX). And it takes a long time to conform the media when I open the project.
    I have noticed that conforming will stop for a while then randomly start up again like 15 min later.
    I am having audio issues for certain files throughout the project some just have no audio. The box is there but no audio.
    I think this is a .cfa issue, seeing as I have deleted specific .cfa files and sometimes Premiere reconforms that clip and the audio works.
    My question is there a command to re-conform a specific clip inside Premiere CS5?
    So I dont have to search in the library>app support>adobe>common...delete .cfa file etc?
    Thanks hope someone has an answer.

    Thanks for the response.
    I am aware that it is not supposed to conform footage that has already been conformed, but it is still doing it every time.
    I am thinking this must be a problem with how PPro handles R3D files, or R3D riles from the MX sensor.

  • Cinema Tools won't let me conform a video clip

    I'm using FCP 7 and CT 4.5. I want to conform a 30p clip to 24p in CT, but when I open the clip in CT, the "conform" button isn't clickable/activated. However, when I open other clips, the button is clickable.
    What are possible reasons that CT won't allow you to conform a clip?

    Well, since FCP-7 does not work correctly or reliably with H.264 files, use Compressor to convert your source material to an edit friendly codec such as ProRes.
    Once that is done, you can use Cinema Tools if you want to, and the whole experience in FCP will be better.

  • Best SD Compressor Settings for DVCPROHD clips shot on P2?

    I have DVCPROHD clips shot 720p 60 at 24fps (23.98 fps to be exact). I am cutting this on the latest vers of FCP. I am mixing this with some SD elements. The final product will be SD dvd or tape. I tried DVCPRO NTSC 50 and I am not thrilled with the quality. Should I use DV NTSC instead? Or should I just mix the formats with out using Compressor edit it on a timeline set to SD settings and burn SD dvd without worrying about Compressor?

    Did you try using the YouTube preset?

  • Auto conform sequence to clip?

    So this new version of FCP is supposed to be able to conform sequences to the first clip placed in it. Which would be wonderful, something that I've enjoyed in After Effects for quite some time.
    But I can't seem to get this to work. I've tried having the setting on 'ask' and tried it on 'always' but it doesn't ever seem to change the sequence when I drop a clip in.
    Any suggestions on how to get this to work?
    Thanks!

    When you try to place a second clip on the timeline, which has different caratteristics from the 1st one a window should automatically appear asking you if you wish to conform the new clip settings to the one already in the timeline. You should then click yes!

  • Bad Aspect Ratio from Compressor with DVCPROHD clips.

    I created a 30 minutes long sequence in FCP using DVCPRO HD 720p24. I exported the sequence as a QuickTime movie using current settings... the QuickTime export looks perfect and playback displays the proper aspect ratio. I then sent this file to Compressor 3 with standard presets for AppleTV and iPod Video (large and small).
    They all turned out with an incorrect (elongated, not squished) aspect ratio. All three exports. The source file looks fine but it is the main suspect as all conversions yielded the same result. Any suggestion on what can be wrong with the exported file or with the compressor 3.0 settings? Before installing Compressor 3, I did exported the file using QuickTime Pro and it turned out with the correct aspect ratio. Clips properties show correct display dimensions.
    Thanks!

    I believe this is an (annoying) issue with QuickTime's Conform aperture property. For some reason, the Final Cut Studio apps do not write to this property. QuickTime Pro does, which is why those exports are the correct display ratio.
    For DVCProHD material, opening your Compressor (or FCP or Motion) created movie in QT Pro and setting that property to Clean snaps the display of the movie in QT to 1248x702 (accounting for - and cropping - the overscan and blanking areas), while setting it to Production should give you the 1280x720 frame you desire.

  • DVCPROHD Clips lose sync when added from subclip but not from source clips?

    I am cutting with 1080P DVCPROHD.
    I have sub clipped all the master clips.
    However when I add footage to the time line from the sub clips it comes into the time line out-sync...WAY out of syn.
    However if I find my shot in the sub clip...then match frame to the source clip before I edit to the time line the sync is solid?
    Whats the deal?
    Anyone get anything similar?

  • Bad D3 RAW Conversion - Clipped color in shadows...

    ...and other issues.
    Well. My thread was deleted last time and I didn't get any reasons as to why. What is up with this place? Good thing I always copy my message before posting. Never know when the internet is going to go kaboom... (or somebody is going to delete your thread.)
    I just shelled out $200 for this product and the moderators are deleting my threads?!
    I think I smell fish.
    - Issue 1.
    Aperture's raw conversion for the Nikon D3 is clipping the color from shadows.... generally. (About 99% of the time.) It is possible that the couple of images I haven't seen the problem occur in have color detail just above the clipping threshold.
    This really makes for some ugly images.
    Aperture team: How about we get an update to fix this?
    I just spent 5 hours importing and organizing ~3k images into my existing library now that Aperture finally supports the D3 but now I can't use it. Unfortunately I have been forced to use Bridge for the last couple of months due to no D3 support. Through this, I have become accustomed to its (Bridge's) speed and ACR's RAW conversion. Now Aperture flies and it is MUCH appreciated but the raw conversions are a little noisy and the colorless shadows is a BIG problem.
    In the samples below, watch the shadow on the brown wall behind her as well as the shadow areas on the neck in the close up. Note that the red strap in the file with the color clipped has almost no red left.
    I have another image I took that I was playing with to see how far I could pull the file and still retain shadow detail. The image is in color and looks alright when opened with ACR but when I open it in Aperture, there is almost no color at all in the image. This leads me to believe that Aperture's D3 raw conversion is throwing away color information at a specific level.
    I have a couple of sample images side by side here:
    http://www.uberfoto.com/images/misc/temp/colorclipfull.png
    http://www.uberfoto.com/images/misc/temp/colorclipcrop.png
    - FYI, I don't have any of these issues with D200 NEF's.
    - Issue 2.
    The RAW sharpening has absolutely no affect on any of my D3 images. I bring up the camera model because it could be a specific camera issue. I haven't heard of anybody else having this problem.
    - Issue 3.
    Where are the CA removal tools?
    I don't mean this in any sort of rude way. My intention was to bring up some issues that I have come across and see if I could get some feedback.
    -Josh

    The email I received was strictly regarding my post being deleted. I have not heard anything in reference to the RAW 2.0 problem.
    Here is a comparison of the same image. One exported from Aperture and the other opened in ACR and saved as a JPG.
    http://www.uberfoto.com/images/misc/temp/colorclipAP-ACR.jpg
    http://www.uberfoto.com/images/misc/temp/colorclip_AP-ACRzoom.jpg
    Another thing I noticed is that Aperture preview generator does not clip the color data like the raw converter does. Previews created after image adjustments retain their color in the shadows while the full composite view displays in monochrome. This is an image I took in the studio where the PW died and the flash didn't pop so it was very dark. The original image was nearly all black with no discernible details until I pulled the exposure back up. The ACR conversion looks nearly identical (discarding small differences in brand interpretation) to the "Preview" in AP2.0.

  • FCP 6 - getting Sequence to conform to clips

    FCP 6.0.6
    imported a folder full of images into a brand new sequence.
    getting red in TL
    manually conformed Sequence to "clips" (still images with dur of 2 secs)
    Ive read that drag and drop (a clip to the sequence icon) in the browser or the TL should cause FCP to either ASK you or ALWAYS conform the sequence to the clip setting. For me this never seems to occur.
    I just want to make a custom slideshow here, but everytime I drag my "clips" into the TL, I get red.
    I changed every attribute I could in the sequence settings, but still get red in the TL over each still image/clip.
    I never seem to get prompted as this software is advertised to be capable of.
    FCP 6.0.6
    What am I missing ?
    TIA
    Happy Holidazed

    A still image is not a clip, nor does it conform to any of the codecs supported by FCP.

  • How can I conform clips without a problem?

    Conforming over 2000 clips in both Premiere Pro and Prelude result in skipping audio within the clips. I've tried cleaning media cache, but the files re-conform with similar problems (although in different places). Any suggestions on a reliable way of knowing that clips will conform correctly? I am using Canon C100 footage. The glitch can be seen in the waveform below:
    Any tips would be much appreciated
    Thanks!
    Josh

    Just an update on this. I have since been able to fix the problem. I had changed my Media Cache folder to be on an external drive. Each time, I would clean the media cache and delete the relevant files from the Media Cache.
    It turns out, that when I first started editing with Premiere, some of the media files were cached at the original directory on the local drive. I have since gone in and deleted all of those files. With a reimport/conform, all seems to be fixed!
    That took a while.
    Thanks again for your help!

  • Is this bad usage of the applet sound player

    I have this class for playing audio for my application.
    currently it is a game the is presented in a JFrame but when trying to play audio i kept coming across the use of java.applet.AudioClip for playing audio.
    what i want to know is what i am doing really bad use of this class?
    and if so where should i look to find tips on how to make a better audio class for my game?
    import java.applet.AudioClip;
    import java.applet.Applet;
    public class SoundPlayer {
         public static final int WALL_HIT_SOUND = 1,  BRICK_HIT_SOUND = 2,  POWER_UP_SOUND = 3;
         private static boolean setUp = false;
         private static AudioClip wallHit = null,  brickHit = null,  powerUp = null;
         public void play(int clipID) {
              if (!setUp) {
                   setUp();
              AudioClip clip;
              switch (clipID) {
                   default:
                   case WALL_HIT_SOUND:
                        clip = wallHit;
                        break;
                   case BRICK_HIT_SOUND:
                        clip = brickHit;
                        break;
                   case POWER_UP_SOUND:
                        clip = powerUp;
                        break;
              if (clip != null) {
                   clip.play();
         public void setUp() {
              wallHit = loadClip("wallHit");
              brickHit = loadClip("brickHit");
              powerUp = loadClip("powerUp");
              setUp = true;
         public AudioClip loadClip(String name) {
              try {
                   return Applet.newAudioClip(getClass().getResource("/sound/files/" + name + ".wav"));
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   System.err.println("Cannot open Audio File: " + name + ".wav will not play this sound");
                   return null;
    }Thanks Scott.

    To respond to your first question (Is it bad to use)
    java.applet.AudioClip isn't part of the JavaSound API, so this isn't really the correct forum to ask this question.
    You should go check out a generic applet forum for the question...
    To respond to your second question (What should I use if it's bad)
    javax.sound.sampled.Clip is probably what you should be using for an application to play short sounds.
    /*  To load a clip */
    AudioInputStream ais = AudioSystem.getAudioInputStream(new File("bang.wav"));
    Clip c = AudioSystem.getClip();
    c.open(ais);
    /* To play a clip */
    c.start();
    /* To stop */
    c.stop();
    /* To stop & reset to beginning */
    c.stop();
    c.setFramePosition(0);

  • Copy and Paste of Clips

    Hi, I have all my media in one project called CAR ALL VIDEO. I want to share the media across multiple projects I am working on - specifically I want to use subclips I have in CAR ALL MEDIA in a project called CAR THANKS.
    If I am in the Browser window of the CAR ALL MEDIA project and I select a subclip and then use the "copy" command under the Edit menu. Then I go to the other project browser CAR THANKS and "paste" the clip into the browser of this new project, does this work?
    Copy and Paste seems easier than media manager commands or the importing options... Whats the difference? Is copy and paste a bad way to get clips from one project into another?
    I want to PRESERVE all the media in the CAR ALL MEDIA project, as I view this as the source for many projects I will be creating.
    Please advise.
    Also, I have been using the copy and paste technique on a project, so if you do not recommend it, does this mean I need to start all over - or can this be salvaged?
    THANKS!

    you can also just drag the clips you want from the browser of one project to the browser of another project. the browser windows tear off, just grab it by the tap and put it somewhere else on the desktop so you can see what your dragging to where.
    you can get multiple clips this way, and no there is nothing wrong with working that way.
    FCP is really a database that keeps up with actions you perform. the real key to keeping a master project and multiple versions is your organization and naming conventions.
    check this out, it'll save you potential hours of pain/frustration which is headed your way if you don't develop a suitable workflow.

  • [Premiere Pro CS 5.5] : audio not conform with video

    Hi,
    I have a little problem with two clip on Premiere. The audio is wrong.
    I have delete Media cache and Media cache files, reopen Premiere and here
    restart the conformity.
    At end the conformity, in the monitor Premiere remaining the write "Media pending".
    So I restart Premiere and... restart the conformity and write "Media pending" is absent.
    At end the re-conformity these two clip are already with wrong audio.
    Suggestions?

    Now I also did a test by deleting Preview Files together with Media Cache and Media Cache files.
    After conformity the write "Media pending" is absent, now is correct.
    But the audio in these clip is already wrong.

  • I need badly to keyframe Color effect parameters. I don't see the way to do it in FCPx. Will I ever be able to do it?

    A very common situation is a lighting change within a single clip. In previous versions of FCP it could be easily handled by keyframing exposition and color effects. There is no such feature in FCPx. I need it, and I need it badly! Blading the clip and adding cross-disolve, as it is advised, gives disgusting result - leave that for iMovie users.  I would also appreciate if the following features will be added to color effect: 1. The possibility to edit not only using color board, but also numerical input. 2. The color pickers for neutral colors. 3. The possibility to fine-tune the automatic color balance parameters and saving them to use for other clips.

    I believe we are expected to use Effects for things like your lighting change. There are several in the Effects browser under Lighting that may accomplish what you are after; Bloom, Glow, Aura, etc. I presume the theory is that these should give you greater control and a richer effect than a simple exposure control.
    And if they don't do what you need, it is not difficult to whip up your own in Motion. Creating a simple exposure control should be ... simple. That is, if you are into Motion. Which with Final Cut Pro X seems to be an increasingly valuable skill.
    Regarding requests 2 and 3, they do not seem approachable in Motion.

  • Reverse Telecine DVCProHD 1080/60i 24p Problems!

    Heres what happened.
    1. Captured DVCProHD 1080/60i footage shot in 24P.
    2. Edited footage in 29.97 rate.
    3. Realized Pulldown was never removed.
    4. Selected the bin with all original media, and then selected "tools" menu and "Remove advanced pulldown"
    5. FCP6 batch processed for a while. clip by clip.
    6. after process was finished a few clips per bin are offline.
    7. FCP will not "reconnect" these offline clips.
    8. FCP will not import these clips when accessed through the finder (drag and drop to the bin).
    What happened? I need to reimport these clips. I would appreciate any and all help.
    Heres more info...
    1. the clips that processed properly show 23.98 when getting "item properties>format"
    2. offline clips open/play in Quicktime.
    3. when importing offline clips, FCP gives incompatible/unsupported error.
    4. in finder duplicating and renaming offline clip doesnt work.
    5. exporting offline clip to another DVCProHD clip doesnt work.
    thank you for reading.

    Wish I could help, but can only post that I too am having problems with progressive footage.
    Heres what happened for me.
    1. Captured DVCProHD 1080/60P footage shot in 24P.
    2. Edited footage in 59.94 rate.
    3. Realized Pulldown was never removed.
    4. Selected original media, and then selected "tools" menu and "Remove advanced pulldown"
    5. Got error stating footage not DVCProHD (which it is).
    6. Tried DVCPro frame rate converter > 23.98 (tried all variables)
    7. At the end of processing clips I get the incompatible/unsupported error.
    Did you try the frame rate converter? This option seems great with the ref video option.
