Bad cookie alert ...

This message came up on a friend's Mac (she has changed to bt broadband). Any idea if it's important? Anyone seen this sort of message before?
"ALERT QUICK SYSTEM HIGH ALERT
Bad cookies and Compromising files detected that may compromise your privacy or damage your computer.
Macmail pdf
bt broadband Home H user guide
Bad Cookie
Your IP address tracked by http/www
Compromising file (type adult) path system_root/home
Bad Cookie Your IP address etc"

Hi Shaun
most likely it's some umm advertising for an err 'security scanning' company. Google brings up Macsweeper as using the "bad cookies & compromising files" quote. but ahh I see you've posted on macfixit about it.
It'd surprise me if anything useful or even genuine used that sort of language; if it was just a pop-up within Safari - I'd ignore it.

  • Blank cookie alert dropdown hangs Firefox

Firefox 4, on a Mac. Cookie setting is set to 'ask every time.' Once in a while, after either dismissing the cookie alert without accepting or denying, or after specifically denying a particular cookie, I will get a totally BLANK cookie alert drop-down window with no buttons to click. And this blank alert completely hangs up Firefox. I must force-quit Firefox in order to get out of it.
    Here's what it looks like:
    http://tinyurl.com/447ajmk
Anyone have any idea how I can keep this from happening, or how to dismiss the blank alert without having to force-quit Firefox?

I get an e-mail with go-comics and the ones I want to post links to I'll open in the browser as I read them in the e-mail so I regularly have a dozen tabs open (all the same site) by the time I'm through the e-mail. Every third or fourth page will hang up on something (connecting to or waiting for) sometimes not loading a single image, sometimes loading half the page, sometimes loading everything but the comic (because, hey, why put that as the first thing to load when you've got all these ads and crap to throw at your paying customers?).
At some point a couple of months ago I got some malware associated with trovisearch (I do not know how that got past security and java blocker but it did, probably some hidden crap in something from CNET) that somehow spoofed a page for Housecall and added five or six pieces of malware and adware. I cleaned for two days after and still can't find anything left on the computer even though I've been running scans constantly to try to make Firefox work right. I downloaded and ran a scan using Kaspersky during that time and then uninstalled it. That very well may be the cause of the post-refresh SSL issue.
I have Spybot and Malwarebytes scan logs from the time of the infection if that would help in any way. It doesn't look like there's a way to attach .xml files in this forum, though.
I can also run hijack this and copy and paste if that would help.
I'm currently running Windows Defender and rely on that and Noscript and adblocker plus to keep me isolated from most attacks (I don't have those add-ons re-installed yet). I also run Peerblock because they add malicious sites and known hacking sources (like Chinanet) to what they block as well as all the fake p2p stuff that's constantly pinging the computer. If I'm treading around in perilous waters I run Sandboxie.
Chrome is working as normal but Firefox feels like dial-up or worse right now and without adblocker I might as well be using IE.

  • BAD MEDIA ALERT! New Sony DVD-R 16x

There are some new Sony brand "16x" DVD-R's out for approx. 15USD/50 pack on sale at Staples. I have previously used Sony's 8x ones before with fantastic results but these, my friends, are not worth it. Very bad play-back in consumer stand-alone DVD players. A strange faint sector is left after every burn (which I suppose causes the issue). These things have also gotten very poor ratings online as well.
The sale is mighty tempting, but they are definitely a "pass" if you are doing any commercial work.

    Hi:
You can check this site about Media Brand vs. Manufatrurer Brand.
You can use Toast to check the media manufacturer ID from your discs to double check they are "what they must be".
Besides that remember that compatibility is a combination of elements & factors: your burner + the media + the speed + etc.
    Hope that helps !

  • Bad Script Alerts

All of a sudden I seem to get numerous pop up boxes indicating that there is a bad script and requesting me to debug, cancel or continue.  Why does this happen?  Did I pick up a virus somewhere or is it an adaware problem?

    Perhaps. Read "Ransomware" web pages.
You may have inadvertently installed adware. You do not need to download or install anything to fix it.
For a description of how this may have occurred, how to avoid it in the future, and for Apple's recommended actions read How to install adware. Apple's instructions are linked in the Recovery Procedure near the end of that document. Read and follow them carefully. Pay particular attention to the easily overlooked passages directing you to restart your Mac when required.

  • Bad App Store cookies

My appstore for both iOS apps and the OSX App Store look like web pages with bad cookies. Has anyone else had this problem? I have temporary work arounds but they are just bandages and have to repeated daily, and in a school district that is just not an option. Any possible solutions would be greatly appreciated.

The problem was that our districts internet filter was blocking some of apples ips as personal pages.

  • Safari, "Private Browsing" - why are cookies saved?

I normally use Private Browsing out of habit on all my computers using Safari but I do have a few questions on it -
Why are cookies saved even when "private browsing"? go to one genealogy site that requires membership and the cookies from that site are always present in my cache. Are pages also being saved in the page cache as well?
What is so "private" if info can be assembled?

    HI Jim,
This from the Safari Help Menu:
    About cookies
A cookie is a small file created by a website to store information. The cookie is stored on your computer. Cookies are normally helpful and harmless; it’s rare to encounter a bad cookie.
When you visit a website that uses cookies, the site asks Safari to put cookies on your computer. When you return to the site later, Safari sends back the cookies that belong to the site. The cookies tell the site who you are so that the site can show you information that’s appropriate for you.
Cookies can store information that identifies you, such as your name and email address. A website has access only to the information you provide. For example, a website can’t determine your email address unless you provide it. A website can’t gain access to other information on your computer.
When you use the default cookie preferences in Safari, you won’t know when Safari is accepting or sending cookies.
You can change your cookies preferences so that Safari doesn’t accept cookies or accepts them only from limited sources.

  • 3602i Errors in log, bad throughput

I just acquared a 3602i.  It was running lightweight, but I changed it to autonomous.
From the start I notced absomal throughput when only 10-20 feet away, bouncing from 0 to 7 Mb/s when using iperf over a 30 second period.  If I used the same client on my 3502, I get a solid consistant throughput of 37 Mb/s.
When I looked at the logs, I noticed the following section:

Those errors are none that I have seen before.
Ideas?  I have an idea what is wrong, but I wanted some feedback before suggesting anything.  The performance is bad with more than just this specific client that I'm testing with.
    Thanks

I'm running the latest autonomous code (July 31st 2013) - ap3g2-k9w7-xx.152-4.JA1 , but I was also running an old one and had the same errors as I originally posted.
I finally got around the testing again with my two APs

    > 3602i only should work in lap mode, what IOS you used to covert it to AP mode?
Autonomous code has been released by Cisco, it's available from the support/download page.  While I totally understand these classes of lighweight radios were meant to only be used this way and that autonomous was for surveying with a limited feature set, my 3502i has worked flawless for 4+ months.
Also, I also don't think the errors I'm seeing are a result of using the Autonomous mode, these seem like much lower level of errors that woudl impact your ability to even do a proper suvrey.

  • Alert Recipients in CRM

    Hi All,
    Requirement:
Alert category defined with elements passed to the container using the ALERT_EXIT..BAdI. Alert gets triggered using the action. recipient receives the mail too with all the values required.
Used Rule based recipients option to trigger to recipients but the problem is that, there are Org. Units which are responsible for certain regions depending on where the customer site is.
ex: if Customer site has region TX, then an RSM and ASM, which are positions assigned under South West Ops (TX) should be determined and alert sent to the BP/USER assigned at this position.
So on..depending on the region of the customer, the respective org unit and the positions should be determined and alert sent to the respective partners.
    Challenge :
Though I have defined the Rule and the container elements, my binding in the "Process Data Flow" seems to be incorrect.
Has anyone worked on a similar requirement?
    Kindly revert.
    Regards,
    Ashwin

I am not aware of any way of mass updating the values.
For the user navigation you first need to customize your navigation bar so that it contains the workcenter called CT-WORKLST. This will make the Worklist visible in the navigation bar.
When the users then click Worklist they subsequently have to click on "Personalize alerts" which will take them to the page where they can select/deselect e-mail and also subscribe/unsubscribe to specific alert categories. To be able to do the latter I believe you also need to give users authorizations via auth. object S_ALM_ROLE.

    Anders

  • Is it possible to find out whether cookies are disabled in a browser in JSP

Is it possible to find out whether cookies are disabled in a browser in JSP?
Is there any code for that?

This script checks to see if the user has cookies enabled and if they don't give them a pop-up box telling them they must enable them. The alert message has to be all one long line in order to work.
    <script language="JavaScript">
    document.cookie='CookiesEnabled=1';
    if (document.cookie=='')
         {alert('Please enable your cookies in order to continue.');}

no, this may be relevant advice. bad cookies can cause such problems. I asked because many people (especially windows switchers) like to clear cookies by hand without any compelling reason to do so. this isn't the case for you so go ahead and delete the cookies.

You can open the ports with your IP...it will not affect anything.
You can also try the following settings :
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
On the set-up tab change the MTU Size to 1300 and click Save Settings...
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Set the Channel Width to 20MHz and change Channel to 11...and click on save settings
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...
