Bad Crash

I am working on an album project and experienced a crash unlike what I usually experience (i.e. no text box alert that "logic pro quit unexpectedly" and no automatically saved backup file). Now when I try to reopen the file Logic crashes before opening it. Other Logic files open and run fine; I'm only experiencing the problem with this one file. I tried turning plugs off with AU Manager in order to open it as well as resetting the memory buffer to the highest setting, but it still will not open. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

If other files are opening no problem my first instinct would be that your song file is corrupt. Are there earlier versions of the project file you can open?

  • Bad crash when printing to pdf in Morningstar software - is it a 64 bit problem?

Had bad crash when printing to pdf in Morningstar Principia Pro software - is it a 64 bit compatability problem? All other software I have can print
to Acrobat pdf, but in Morningstar the Window 7 PC freezes and not even Task manager can
unfreeze the computer. Acrobat worked fine in my old XP 32 bit PC when printing from Morningstar. Recently a webinar using
an Adobe webinar software I was told I must only use a 32 bit browser, so I suspect Acrobat is incompaitble with my new 64 bit PC. Work around solution is to print to Microsoft XPS and then convert to Acrobat but I want to use Acrobat only! Is there a patch for people using 64 bit PCs?
Can someone at Adobe respond to me, please? I have used Acrobat for over 10 years and am very loyal.

Michael: I have tested other programs ability to print to Acrobat and also tested ability for other programs to
export to Excel or Word. The only crash is when printing an Acrobat pdf from Morningstar Principia Pro I get a bad crash. The work around is to print to XPS and then convert the XPS file to Acrobat pdf. To get out of the crash which can't be fixed by Windows Task Manager shut down, is to open the printer file and tell the printer to delete the pending print job.
I'm using latest Version 9.3.4 Standard Acrobat; Win 7 Pro 64 bit, 10 g of RAM, HPE 390t standalone PC, no networking.

  • Flaky Firewire bus after bad crash

I had a really bad crash last week while working in FCP (slow beachball then a total freeze). I had an AJA IOHD attached to the rear FW800 port; for those not in the know, that's a self-powered video I/O box for capture and playback that uses FW instead of a PCI slot. It takes over the WHOLE FW bus when you use it, can't even have a hard drive plugged in or it freaks out. Anyway, after the crash the IOHD was acting weird, would freeze the computer whenever FCP was launched. I reinstalled the drivers and ran fsck in SU mode and got the machine back to the point it wouldn't freeze. But the IO was still being glitchy, kept going briefly 'offline' and dropping frames on playback.
The IOHD runs fine on my MacBook Pro. And, I just tried the front FW800 port on the Mac Pro and that works fine too. So the issue seems limited to the back FW800 port. What could I have done to it? It's not totally burned out, cuz a FW800 drive plugged in back there runs normally. But it just doesn't want to communicate with the IOHD properly now. Not sure if there's anything software-wise I can do to fix it; if it is a hardware repair, anyone know what a FW bus replacement runs? Or would they have to swap the motherboard? (and of course, my Applecare just ran out)
    JK

Uggh, no good. It was doing fine after I reset the SMU, but while I was running video through the IOHD from FCP it started to drop frames again. Also, bits of digital static and noise all over the external monitor (connected via HDMI to IOHD) even though the footage itself is clean. The unit was not going online/offline at first but then FCP froze, and when I force quit it that behavior returned as well. FCP report just said "hang" as the cause of the problem. Similar flaky behavior (though not as bad) in Motion.
Anything else I should try before I declare that FW port borked? Reset the PRAM perhaps?

  • Help please - Bad crashing, freezing, lines and pale patches and more

I wonder if anyone can help me. I am not very technobod and there are progressively awful problems on my Mac until it is now so slow.
I need to fix it before it dies altogether, or I throw it out of the window.....
    Problems:-
Thin black lines randomly appearing across the windows.
Ghosting of windows, they leave another version when moved.
Sometimes windows just white out in areas with scribbly lines like pretend text.
Sometimes windows have large bare patches all of a sudden or go see through
Programs keep just quitting for no reason.
The whole computer just freezes every now and then. Sometimes it waits and returns, occasionally it crashes completely.
It is really painfully slow and can take me considerable minutes to open a new window or get something else up on screen.
The tool bar sometimes goes all skeletal with no background.
Loads more silly things like this... all random.
It is driving me absolutely potty. It's only used by me doing emails, filing pics, designing jam labels, letters, going on forums and things. I don't give it loads to manage unless I'm doing something spectacularly stupid. This computer ought to be big enough to run a design studio....
I have tried mackeeper, found it gave more problems than it solved, and uninstalled that, I've tried Clean my mac and only cleaned some, I left the universal binaries and the Caches alone. I then tried Onyx and fixed some listings (I kept the report) and cleaned up the caches in that, then restarted.
It is now even slower than before I started fixing it, and all of the problems are still here. I've got time machine for back up.
What can be going wrong? Is anyone able to help over the next couple of days?

It has taken me this long to reply to you because it is so slow.

  • Import problems and how to handle a bad crash

    Hello,
I am working on a system that I "inherited" because I am the only person left who has any idea about how it is supposed to work. :(
    Configuration:
    Oracle Base Version: 9.2.0.1.0 & OUI patch 2.2.0.2.20 & Oracle Patch 9.2.0.3.0
    Operating System: Windows 2000 Server
    Situation:
The SCSI controller on the mainboard failed taking the primary hard drive drive with it and damaging the HDD controller for the secondary drive. Thankfully I was able to bring the secondary drive back up online and get to the mirror which I immediately copied to a backup location. Unfortunately getting the mirror drive to be bootable under server2K has not been successful so I am focusing on recovering the data at this point.
    Problem #1:
Incredibly Rare backups of the database have been made and I have the backup files but one of the backup files (the most recent one) is corrupted. During import via the DBCA interface I get a "invalid EXT descriptor signature" message when it is unpacking the files. From my own research, this appears to be a screwup on the part of SUN and how they implemented some things via Java.
    Request #1:
Does anybody know how to fix this import issue with the backup files? (It will get me almost 2 years worth of data... remember.... Incredibly Rare backups...)
    Problem #2:
There is still about 10 months worth of data that is sitting in the database from the last corrupted backup. I have a copy of the entire C:\Oracle directory from the mirror drive so the raw data is available to me.
    Request #2:
Is there a way to import or merge this data with a working backup file (from 2005)? I'm under the assumption that 'overlay and pray' is not an option :)
    General Information:
The original Oracle server is part of a small domain that was setup to perform a dedicated task. I am currently performing the recovery efforts on a dedicated server setup at home which models the software configuration of the original server that died. I can import a backup file from 2005 without any issues and the OraDim & sqlnet files don't report any errors. I have no trouble accessing or manipulating the data via the Enterprise Management Console or SQL+.
Please forgive me if some of this is posted to the wrong section.
Thank you in advance for any advice and/or help!
    Jeff Beasom-

What you have been given is a toy.
I call it a toy because infrequent backups, inadequate training, and an antique unpatched database clearly indicate that your management has not taken this seriously.
It is time for someone to act like a professional and that appears to mean you.
Forget this forum, open an SR at metalink, and follow Oracle's support advice.
If your management has not paid for a support contract ... either they purchase one in the next 48 hours or ... update your resume and get out of there while you still have the skills to do so.

  • Bad Crash, iTunes library survives, now in isolation on new computer.

Brief background, Had 4800 iTunes installed on computer 1, using iTunes 6.xxx software. Computer went south. Bought new unit, #2.
Unit #1 motherboard fried. Could not use machine. Had HD removed professonaly and installed into #2 as a slave. It is now known as F/drive.
New unit is currently running iTunes lastest and greatest version and has about 35 songs on it.
What instalation/update/transfer protocol do I use to get iTunes from F/drive with an old iTunes version over to the C/drive with the 7.3.3 iTunes? Whateven happend to Drag and Drop. Didn't Mac invent THAT? Or, did Bill buy the rights to that TOO.
Hurry please, there are some old country standards from the 50's waiting to be heard again. :--) Larry

Run the itunes consolidate command so it will put all the files in one folder.

    GPU: MSI GTX 980
    CPU: Intel core i7 4790K 4 GHz

I use my pc mostly for gaming,
I bought en build my pc on September 2015 but now and then I get a very bad crash, the crash shuts down my pc (no blue screen / no Error) just a black screen with a pc that won’t respond on anything. The lights are on at my motherboard cpu cooler and GPU, but no respond. To turn my pc on again I have to shut down the main power switch. After 10 seconds I can start up my pc again.
I get the following windows event: id 41 kernel power
    Scenario:
This began when I played Dragon age 3 in December, I got the crash twice in like 100 hours. (not a big deal) than I got the same crash once when I played GTA V with 60 hours more or less. But now when I playing the Witcher 3 wild hunt I get it every 5 minutes.
What did I try to fix it but won’t work:
    - Memtest run x10 no error
    - Drivers up to date
    - The temps under full load are great CPU they won’t go over 51 degrease / GPU 68 degrees / the rest won’t go over 45 degrees.
    - I got no virus.
    - Everything is connected just fine.
I hope you guys can help me out.
    Kind regards,

May be your PSU being too weak or going bad (I doubt though). Although you have 9 fans.. maybe try disconnecting case fans and leave only CPU cooler ones to work?

  • Intermittant dialog draw proc CRASH

    Hi,
I am developing Illustrator CS2 plugin for Mac using Xcode 1.5/OS 10.3.9. I have intermittant problem with display of certain dialog. I have overridden dialog's draw procedure with my own, which calls default draw and then adds some additional text and icon.
    Usually it dislays fine.
Sometimes however, it starts to draw my text and then I get bad crash out of Illustrator. Some of crash log is below. Perhaps it is recursivly calling my display proc?
Tried debugging. I put breakpoint in my draw proc. First time it is hit, nothing shows up in Illustrator. After continue, dialog pops up and breakpoint is hit again (why?). Continue again, and back in Illustrator we can hit OK to dismiss dialog. Now breakpoint is hit a third time, after continue all is normal.

    Dear all,
my Xsan system has a very bad crash yesterday. I've two core files now:

Does anybody now if there's a way to send them to Apple for inspection? Is Apple interested in those cores?
    Best regards,

    Thanks for your reply.
    Do you have Xsan support?
We intend to buy AppleCare for the XServe machines, but haven't done yet, as we've bought it in September only. And the unversity's money is allways seperated in fiscal years. I assume (and I've been told by the dealer), that there's a one year warrenty, isn't it?

I'm on a late 2013 iMac with 24gigs of RAM and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M 1024 MB GPU.
Premiere Pro is crashing constantly. These are bad crashes where the whole screen flickers or pixelates. I'm cutting RED Epic footage that was shot in 5k, my partner is cutting on an iMac with os 10.8 and doesn't seem to be having any problems.
It happens when I'm in the Timeline or the Source viewer or the Project bins.

    Hi aejablon,
Please check whether Mercury playback engine is set to CUDA or Open Cl. If it is on open CL switch to CUDA or software mode and check. You can also try to give permission to the Preferences folder by following the below steps.
    Go to user>username>library>preferences>premiere pro>7.0
Right click on 7.0 and select get info
Click on the lock and enter the password to unlock it.
Cick on "+" and add permission to everyone with read and write access.

As far as I remember it is mentioned in the tutorial. However this is a
very basic C programming concept, that the caller has to allocate and
deallocate buffers passed to functions. This is because there are
basically a myriad of ways to allocate memory and if the allocation and
deallocation is not done by the same entity you have to exactly specify
which memory pool has to be used. Windows itself has about three or four
different memory management libraries and most C runtime libraries add
    th
eir own again, although the Microsoft Visual C runtime library does
redirect its malloc() calls to one of the WinAPI memory management
calls. But Borland runtimes typically have their own meory management
library and if a DLL created in Borland C or Delphi would allocate
memory and you would try to deallocate it in a Visual C application you
    would get very bad crashes.

  • Cannot fix Cyrus quota after server crash-n-restore

We had a bad crash last week. AppleRAID went kaboom.
(don't get me started on the sins of AppleRAID)
After restoring our e-mail from back-up and performing RECONSTRUCT on our IMAP store, things are looking better... Except all user quotas are wrong.
    I tried performing this...
    % sudo -u cyrus /usr/bin/cyrus/bin/quota -f
But it gives me this attitude:
    quota: can't read mailboxes file
Grrrr! I need to get the quota police back on the beat! My users care little how much space their e-mail occupies on our server.
      Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I downloaded mailbfr and it was able to repair my quota.
    http://osx.topicdesk.com/downloads
I'm pretty sure that the problem I was encountering was due to the fact that I was trying to repair the quota WHILE CYRUS WAS STILL RUNNING.
    I'm an idiot.

  • Yahoo messenger 3.0 beta crash

Yahoo Messenger 3.0 beta is generally a great improvement, but I have had a couple of bad crashes when using webcam. Viewing webcam is fine (which has not been the case for some time--it has been dysfunctional for quite a while, and it seems that this problem has been quite widespread for Apple users), and when I start my own webcam there seems to be no problem at first, but problems occur after that--I have had one total system freeze (something that hasn't happend since OS 9) and one kernel panic (message telling me to restart the computer).
The freeze (and several less serious application crashes) happened with OS 10.4.6, the kernel panic with 10.4.7, so the problem is definitely with the Yahoo software, not an upgrade issue.
    Any similar experiences or solutions?

    Hi, Larry.
All I can suggest is that you report the problem to Yahoo. Beta code means that the developers know they've not worked out all the bugs and hope users will play "Test Pilot."

Had a bad crash where I just could not quit an application or relaunch Finder so I restarted the machine (think this might have been the first time I restarted since 10.4.7 was downloaded).
When the system started back up I entered my (admin) password and it looked as though everything was Ok but then got the login screen again. Same thing happened.
My son tried logging in with his account and it worked fine but as soon as I tried, just the log in screen came up again. Tried resetting the password but no joy.
I have restarted from install disc, done a Verify Permissions and they were all over the place. After 3 times of running repair permissions it seemed OK. tried to Repair Disk but it checked OK and was not necessary. Verify Permissions seemed OK so restarted but exactly the same thing. My son can log in OK (I am using his account now) but I cannot.
    Anybody any ideas please?

My guess is a corrupted preference - maybe Finder preferences. In my opinion you have 2 options here:
    1) Create a new admin account. You should be able to do this from your son's account simply by opening the "Accounts" section of System Prefences and authenticating as the admin. Login as the new admin. If that works, move/copy documents from the "old" admin account to the new one (easier said than done...), then delete the old admin account.
    2) Try removing the Finder preferences file. There are several ways to do this. First, you should try booting in "safe" mode. To do that, first shutdown the Mac (power it off). Turn it on again, and immediately hold the shift key. Keep holding it until you see the login screen. At this point, try logging in as admin. If it works try moving the file Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist to the trash. Reboot and see if that helps.
If that doesn't work, I would try as follows:
    login to son's account
open Terminal. This is in Applications/Utilities
switch to the admin account by entering "su - admin" (substituting the short name of the admin account for "admin")
Change directory to the preferences with "cd Library/Preferences"
Rename the Finder preferences file with "mv com.apple.finder.plist com.apple.finder.plist.old"
    "exit"
Logout of son's account and try logging in as the admin
