Mathematica 8.0.1 works fine here on Arch x64. Maybe the image that your university provides is corrupt. Maybe you could try to change line 4 in "Mathematica_8.0.1_LINUX.sh" to the MD5 sum that is computed in your version of mathematica - just to see if it installs then.

    Each and every email I open in Outlook creates a firefox download file which I have to cancel as it leads nowhere as I have tried to follow it and see if it leads anywhere.
    I have tried chat and sat on chat for 45 minutes, then get disconnected. Before removing Firefox and going back to Explorer which I hate I wanted to see if this can be solved, only started with 3.6 and I upgraded to 4.0 and problem is still there

  • Firefox won't download files-Opens new page and just stops whenclicking on download icon or address.

    Suddenly, Firefox won't download a file from a clickable icon or web address. This seemed to occur after installing HideMyAss. When I click on a download address, or an icon, the page changes, (as opposed to just starting the download) attempts to load (status bar goes to halfway) and then nothing, it just sits there. If I try to download a torrent file, the same thing occurs, although I can download it using option+click. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Doug

    Reinstalled FF with new profile to check and it still performed the same problem. Couldn't download files from links sent to me through email program that I use either.
    Eventually, after a quick 5 hour reinstall, FF is now working.
    Until I figure otherwise, I'd take a pass on Hide My Ass.

  • Downloaded files won't open, and mouse sometimes disappears

    Hey there,
    I've just been having some rather minor problems with my iBook, and I thought maybe someone could help me out.
    First of all, my iBook won't open a lot of applications that I download. It says that it can't find the application to open the programs with. I looked on a few of these forum threads, and it said to download the Stuffit program. I dowloaded the latest version, but when I went to open it, my computer gave me the same answer as it did for all those other apps- that it couldn't find the application to open it up with. I went back and downloaded the previous version of Stuffit, but that had the same result. How can I get files to open on my computer?
    Also, sometimes while I'm in Safari, the mouse arrow completely disappears until I either scroll over a picture or click the back/forward arrows. Anyone have any ideas on why this happens? It doesn't really do anything bad, it's just annoying.
    Well, thanks for reading this, and have a good day!

    Ok, maybe this will lend some insight to the Safari cursor behavior.
    I was on the Slashdots' main page. I had not experienced the issue since yesterday.
    I proceded to follow this link, opening it in a new tab:
    http://www.crn.com/sections/breakingnews/dailyarchives.jhtml?articleId=188701694
    When on that page, the cursor would start rapidly switching from a pointer to a hand. I clicked on the tab for Slashdot. Problem gone! I tabbed back to the CRN page in question and reloaded it. Problem is back. To clarify, I did not have to reload the page for the problem to persist, it was just something I tried.
    I emptied the cache and reloaded. No change.
    I would like to add that this in no way interferes with productivity when working in Safari, it's just really odd is all.
    Any ideas?

  • When I am downloading anything from any website in firefox and if I close main window of firefox, the downloading file also gets stops and crashes.

    example, I was downloading 74 mb file and as soon as I close firefox window my 74 mb file was downloaded to that size upto which it has been downloaded say 1 Mb for example..

    You can set the pref browser.download.manager.quitBehavior to 2 on the about:config page.<br />
    That will make Firefox ask for confirmation if you want to cancel the download if you close Firefox.
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.download.manager.quitBehavior
    To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
    If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
    *Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
    *Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
    *Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
    *Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)

  • Open downloaded files on linux

    After files have downloaded, in the Downloads dialog, whether I right-click and select "open contaning folder" or simply "Open", firefox tries to open the selected file (or folder) in gedit, which of course gives an error. Why doesn't firefox follow the general system preferences with respect to file associations?? This is HUGELY annoying!!
    Thank you

    The file might have been deleted, so look in the Recycle Bin on your desktop. Also, look in the "quarantine" section of your anti-virus or clean-up software.
    Finally search your entire computer for the file:
    1. Press WindowsKey+F to open Windows Explorer.
    2. Type the name of the file you are looking for.

    The file's completed size is 469mb when it should be 4.5GB.  It is a corrupted archive, meaning it cannot be used or opened.  It is impossible to 'resume' this file because the server thinks that 469MB is the completed size.

  • File naming on Russian and limitation on length of file names

    Hi.
    I post this message as a note for any users for whom English is not native language and in everyday practice they use native language on Linux systems.
    Torrents and Linux
    System:
    OS: Archlinux x86_64
    FS: Reiserfs
    Locale: UTF-8
    Client: rtorrent
    torrent: http://torrents.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1445641
    Problem:
    if one try to download this torrent with the help of rtorrent he see message
    Hashing: Storage error: [Hash checker was unable to map chunk: Слишком длинное имя файла]
    (this in on Russian, on English this is: 'File name too long')
    Namely rtorrent couldn't handle this file
    Белов А. В. - Микроконтроллеры AVR в радиолюбительской практике. Автоматика. Радиоэлектроника. Связь. Радио. Радиосвязь. Любительская радиосвязь.(2007)(336).djvu
    (on Russian again).
    The same message prints Transmission when one try to download this particular file.
    Reason:
    the name is exceeded the limitation on length of file name: 255 bytes. See, e.g.
    $ echo 'Белов А. В. - Микроконтроллеры AVR в радиолюбительской практике. Автоматика. Радиоэлектроника. Связь. Радио. Радиосвязь. Любительская радиосвязь.(2007)(336).djvu' | wc -c
    279
    The problem doesn't depend on type of FS, it is in Linux kernel (Linux VFS). Reiserfs has limit in 4032 bytes on length of file name, Reiser4 has limit in 3976 bytes.
    In this case NTFS is more advanced FS:
    the limitation on length of file name is 255 UTF-16 code units (255*2 bytes).
    Of course if one use 8-bit locale (e.g. cp1251, koi8-r and etc) then this problem for THIS file is not appeared:
    echo 'Белов А. В. - Микроконтроллеры AVR в радиолюбительской практике. Автоматика. Радиоэлектроника. Связь. Радио. Радиосвязь. Любительская радиосвязь.(2007)(336).djvu' | iconv -f utf-8 -t koi8-r | wc -c
    162
    Nevertheless there is no guarantee that someone won't face with longer named files and in that situation the advantage of NTFS against any Linux FS is evident.
    Info about FS limitation is taken from wikipedia.
    I would glad to hear comments and suggestions about this particular problem (because I don't know how to download files of this torrent and store them on my Linux box).
    P.S. As I understand FreeBSD has the same problem in this case.
    P.P.S. I think that this problem could appear for example on Linux which serves as samba server (file server) when windows user want to place file with native alphabet letters in name on server.

    This is a reported bug.

  • AIR Badge + RewriteRule fails - Downloaded file is not an air file

    Hi everyone!
    I'm not entirely sure my problem comes from RewriteRule but I've searched this forum for topics on corrupted AIR files and the Install Badge and tried almost every possible tip with no luck so I thought maybe my special issue comes from it...
    Here we go:
    I have a server-side script that builds AIR apps which are supposed to be installed (via an Install Badge). Those AIR apps are not stored at a public URL (for security reasons) but read (via PHP) when a specific URL is called. Let me give you an example (with fake paths) :
    The server-side built AIR app is store at /srv/data/air/myApp.air
    A RewriteRule redirects calls to http://www.my-server.com/air/999.air to http://www.my-server.com/air.php?id=999
    The air.php uses the GET id to read the AIR file :
    header("Pragma: public");
    header("Expires: 0");
    header("Cache-Control: must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0");
    header("Cache-Control: private", false);
    header("Content-Type: $mimeType");
    header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=$name;" );
    header("Content-Length: ".filesize($path));
    readfile($path);
    With $mimeType="application/vnd.adobe.air-application-installer-package+zip" and $name="999.air"...
    When accessing the rewritten URL directly with a browser, everything is fine: the AIR file can be downloaded and installed as expected.
    But! When using an Install Badge linking to that URL, I get the nasty "The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged" message...
    And here's what's stored in .airappinstall.log:
    Starting app install of http://(...)/9889.air
    UI SWF load is complete
    UI initialized
    Downloading file to C:\Documents and Settings\Quentin\Local Settings\Temp\fla19D.tmp
    Received HTTP Response Status event
    Response URL is http://(...)/9889.air
    Downloaded file is not an air file.
    starting cleanup of temporary files
    application installer exiting
    Hum... And I'm stuck.
    Thoughts?
    I have multiple Install Badges in the same page, do you think this can break things?
    I've try adding the AddType instruction in a .htaccess file but it didn't change a thing...
    Thanks in advance!

    OK, I've got news.
    Bad news.
    In fact I realized the appurl set in the Install badge is (obviously) not called directly but by a script located at http://adobe.com/apollo... So your my session is not available in the script that is called and that reads the actual AIR file. So I can't check wether the user requiring the file has the right to. At least, not the way I intended to do it...
    I will keep you updated if I find something!

  • [Verifying Downloads] Java-Downloaded file not same filesize as on server

    This is in the security forum, but really involves a few details:
    1.) My program downloads files from a server
    2.) I have precalculated hash md5 values and file sizes in a .cfg file in the server which is also downloaded
    3.) The md5 is calculated of the downloaded files
    4.) The filesize is checked and the md5s are checked
    I have 4 client windows computers I've tested this on. It worked on 3. The fourth has a strange behavior: About every other file would have ~ 8 additional bytes in the filesize. I have no idea where those bytes are coming from, everytime it redownloads, same filesize, albeit 8 bytes too big. Therefore, the Md5 is screwed up.
    Here's my downloading from server code:
    OutputStream out = null;
              InputStream  in = null;
              try {
                   URLConnection dat = online.openConnection();
ParentFile().mkdirs();
                   out = new FileOutputStream(local);
                   while(true){
                        try {
                             in = dat.getInputStream();
                             break;
                        } catch (ConnectException e){
                             System.err.println("Couldn't contact server!");
                   byte[] buffer = new byte[1024];
                   int numRead;
                   tsecago = System.nanoTime();
                   readbytessecAgo = -1;
                   while ((numRead = in.read(buffer)) != -1) {
                        out.write(buffer, 0, numRead);
                        readbytes += numRead;
              } catch (Exception e){
                   e.printStackTrace();
              } finally {
                   try {
                        if (in != null) {
                             in.close();
                        if (out != null) {
                             out.close();
                   } catch (IOException ioe) {
              }SO, my solution was as follows:
    1.) Download file once and check md5 & filesize
    2.) If failed, download file AGAIN and check md5 & filesize
    3.) If failed 2x, download file for last time and check filesize - if the filesize is within 40 bytes of the actual file, allow it.
    This now works on all 4 computers, and as far as I can tell the downloaded files are wholly correct.
    But this is really annoying! Why is the above download code producing 8 extra bytes?!

    Thanks for your reply, Timo, and John, the same file downloading is working fine with my Integrated weblogic server, but the same application when i deployed in my DEV server i am getting the error.
    Code which i am trying to download file is
    public void downloadCardInserts(FacesContext facesContext,
    OutputStream outputStream) throws FileNotFoundException,
    IOException {
    // Add event code here...
    UploadedFile filename=(UploadedFile)browseFile.getValue();
    String fname=filename.getFilename();
    String fname1="//bwi-wfp-v01/Apps/SCII/TEST/LOG/Cards/RENEWAL/"+fname;
    System.out.println("file name11111:"+fname1);
    FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(new File(fname1));
    byte[] buffer = new byte[1024];
    int bytes = in.read(buffer);
    while (bytes >= 0) {
    outputStream.write(buffer, 0, bytes);
    bytes = in.read(buffer);
    }
