  • Clip Notes .pdf error - "Bad encrypt dictionary"

    I'm using OS X Leopard (10.5)
I created a Premiere Pro 2.0.1 project, added a couple of markers with comments, and exported to Clip Notes. I did not set any password protection. Emailed it as an attachment to a client who is using Windows, to see if they could open it. They could not, they received the following error message:
"There was an error opening this document. Bad encrypt dictionary."
Any ideas what this is? Is there a basic incompatibility between Mac-generated Clip Notes files and Windows platform? (I know that Mac can only export the video file in a Clip Notes .pdf as QuickTime, but that does not seem to be the problem here, the client does have QT on their Windows PC.)
Apologies if this is the wrong forum, I could not find any obvious place to post questions about Clip Notes .pdf files.

Same thing happened to me.  Update your adobe reader to the latest version.  Open the file with that reader instead of with your copy of adobe acrobat.  Unfortuanltey, you lose all the features of the adobe software, but at least you can read the file.
Hope you are able to read the doucments from the utility.
Note:  If you are saving pdf's save then in a version that will allow those who have at least acrobat 6.0.  Many orgnaizations and people are a couple of versions behind due to realative costs of upgrading.  This simple task will save you those emails about "bad encrypt dictionary" and allow many to read your pdf's with no problems.  At least that's been my experience.

  • "Bad Encrypt Dictionary" message

My customers are suddenly getting the message "Bad Encrypt Dictionary" when trying to open our PDF catalog on our website.  I tried opening the catalog from my computer and it opens just fine.  I'm using IE8 and Acrobat 9 Pro.  Not sure if any of that makes a difference.  If anyone can shed some light on this issue I'd really appreciate it.

    I had a similar issue.  Here's what I did:
    (1) Save the PDF so it can be "read" by at least adobe 6.  Go to File>reduce file size> click on adobe 6.
    (2) Post this new file to the web.
    (3) You can also provide a link to the most uppdated reader and give your customers an option to download the most updated reader, even if they have adobe acrobat.
What's happening is that they likely have an older version of adobe acrobat and that version will not "read" the catalog you created in either the newest or newer version of adobe.
At least this has been my expereince.
    Hope it helps.

  • There was an error opening this document. Bad encrypt dictionary???

I'm trying to download a job application but every time I try to open it I get this mesage, "There was an error opening this document. Bad encrypt dictionary" What does this mean? How do I fix it? I tried repairing and updating Adobe but it didn't help.

What version of Reader do you have?

  • Getting error:  Bad Encrypt Dictionary have tried available solutions

I searched this forum for solutions.  Found only one, but it refers to making adjustments to Distiller, and I am not using Distiller.
I am using Acrobat 9 Pro on Windows XP, SP3.
I am creating PDFs directly from Microsoft WORD, 2007 -  via  File --->  Print ----> to Adobe PDF
Many of my customers are using Adobt Reader 6 - I realize that they need to upgrade, but I don't have much control over this beyond suggesting they do and providing a link.
My pssword-protected docs are unable to be opened, users are getting "Bad Encrypt Error".
When I go to Document Properties  --> PDF Version, it says Acrobat 7.x.
I cannot find a place where I can change this to 6.x
    Any thoughts?
Also, I opened distiller to check the PDF settings and it says 6.x, BUT I don't believe Distiller is part of the process when I print to PDF directly from WORD.  Is there a way that I CAN print to PS then Distill?  This may be a solution, but WORD does not have a PS option for printing.
    Thank you kindly....
    Cynthia-

    Hi Cynthia,
Here's what you need to do:
    Launch MS Word
Select the Acrobat tab on the toolbar
Click on the Preferences toolbar button
Select the Settings tab on the Acrobat PDF Maker dialog (mouse over PDFMaker.jpg below for a screen shot)
Click on the Advanced button in the PDFMaker Settings group box
Select Acrobat 6.0 (PDF1.5) from the Compatibility drop-down list (mouse over PDFMaker_Adv.jpg below for a screen shot)
Click the OK button on the Adobe PDF Settings dialog to save your changes
Click the OK button on the Acrobat PDF Maker dialog
That should fix the problem. Let me know if you need more help,
    Steve

  • Bad encripted dictionary

I just went to bownload a manual for my Garmin Gps only to have the coment come back saying Bad encripted dictionary from Adobe Reader Wat is this and can it be fixed. thanks for any help

If the file came from a website, can you provide the link? It may have been corrupted when you downloaded it (so try again), or it may use encryption targeting a later version of Adobe Reader than the one you have installed (in questions such as this, telling us what software you're using is a good idea).

  • Lenovo A806 Encryption issue

Hi all.. Got the LA806 [Android 4.4.2 / Build - VIBEUI_V2.0_1432_ST_A806] And i tried to Encrypt it several times with different passwords lengths and chars, but i keep on getting an error msg "Unfortunately, Notification Center has stopped" [OK button] then it restarts with the logo animation and sound runs partially then stucks half missing..
The error occurs sometimes after done encrypting, where in the background it says "Encryption unsuccessful{title}, and in other times i thinks it was partially Encrypted, i needed to Factory reset the device every bad Encryption attempt
[By Turning off the device, Then turn on and click and hold Volume up button immediately after the startup vibration, then several Chinese words on the menu, choose the one ending with e MMX or something like that {there's just one} using the Vol up/Dwn to browse, and home button to choose.. for anyone who needed]
And when i tried to disable Notification Center via the Apps Manager, it not letting me do that.. Does anyone knows how to solve that issue? i believe it happens in other KitKat based devices and/or Chinese brands..
Thanks and have a good 1..

    HiJohn1990VV
Like I said in your other thread the Lenovo A806 model is meant only for the chinese market(China only model)and you are probably running a modified/custom chinese firmware.....For that reason it's very hard to pinpoint the cause of your issue.
If I were to guess (considering that you already factory reset the phone) the firmware modifications/tweaks are probably causing the issue.

  • Element not found when duplicating "Basic EFS" template

I've been trying to duplicate the Basic EFS template as either a Windows 2003 or 2008
template and everytime I use the new template via GPO to encrypt (EFS) any files/folder, I keep getting the "Element Not Found" error.  I've looked all over event logs and can not find any errors that will point me in the right direction to
troubleshoot this issue.  I noticed it will only work if I use the Basic EFS template.  I've Google and have found several forum posts that states to duplicate the Basic EFS template as a Windows 2003 template to fix this problem, but I'm still getting
the same error.  Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you.

Does it also fail if you start from a fresh user profile (no previous attempts to encrypt or enrol for certificates using any template)? This is to rule out any effects of caching anything, such thumbprints of EFS certificates used before
    in the registry.
I would in particular repeat a test with a fresh profile and a W2K3 template after AD replication and GPO refresh has been done - I still think the most likely explanation is still that the client actually tried to use a W2K8 template which
    was still cached.
After you created the W2K3 template - did you make any changes to the CSP / cryptography after you had copied Basic EFS? Which provider do you use - I guess it should be Enhanced or Strong provider?
Otherwise, I would probably compare all Object Access events for Basic EFS and for the other templates, and look for things like failed attempts to access key files. If there is nothing promising there, rather use
Process Monitor (Sysinternals) to compare "good" and "bad" encryption.
I admit that these tools are quite overwhelming and require some practice but I think I have exhausted all other ideas.

  • Publisher Unknown - Adobe Digital Editions

    Hello,
we are facing a problem, everytime a book is in progress of downloading the "Publisher Name" is visible in the Adobe Digital Editions, but when the downloading complete the Publisher name became Unknown. Any idea what could be the problem with this?
    Thanks

On PDFs this is stored in the Encryption Dictionary under the Key EBX_PUBLISHER  - searching for this in the 'fulfilled' PDF using a text editor in the PDF may prove enlightening - it should be towards the bottom.
It is possible that it is a bug in ADE, although since this works in the general case, I would look at character encoding issues  such as non ASCII or parentheses.

  • Improving Acrobat Security ?

Acrobat provides an easy means for the password protection of PDF documents. The approach is advantageous in that the documents can be read with the freely available Adobe Reader with usage of the appropriate passwords. Unfortunately, as is well known, this protection is easily circumvented.
My question is this. Is there any way to improve the present Adobe PDF security or does anyone know of a program that will generate an Adobe Reader compatible file after an original PDF file has been encrypted and decrypted by a "third party" program.
We tried this appraoch with the Dlock version of MPJ, which is a military grade encryption system. A PDF file was encrypted and then decrypted by MPJ. Unfortunately, Adobe Reader could not read the resultant decrypted file. The MPJ encryption/decryption process functions properly with other files.
Thank you very much for your assistance.

    Hi Dave,
I did find this on the Adobe Acrobat developer site. The SDK does have encryption capability as follows. I still don't know if this can also be accomplished by using a command line option with acrobat.exe.
    QUOTE
Encryption is controlled by an encryption dictionary in the PDF file. The Acrobat  core API uses RC4 (a proprietary algorithm provided by RSA Data  Security, Inc.) to encrypt document data, and a standard (proprietary)  method to encrypt, decrypt, and verify user passwords to determine  whether or not a user is authorized to open a document.
Each stream or string object in a PDF file is individually encrypted. This level of encryption improves performance  because objects can be individually decrypted as needed rather than  decrypting an entire file. All objects, except for the encryption  dictionary (which contains the security handler’s private data), are  encrypted using the RC4 algorithm Adobe licenses from RSA Data Security,  Inc. A plug-in may not substitute another encryption scheme for RC4.
A plug-in that implements a security handler is responsible for encrypting the values it places into the encryption  dictionary, and it may use any encryption scheme. If the security  handler does not encrypt the values it places into the encryption  dictionary, the values are in plain text.
The core API provides two Cos layer methods to encrypt and decrypt data using the RC4 algorithm. These methods are CosEncryptData and CosDecryptData. (See the Acrobat and PDF Library API Reference.)
Security handlers may use these methods to encrypt data they want to put into the PDF file’s encryption dictionary  and decrypt data when it is read from the dictionary. Security handlers  may instead choose to ignore these methods and use their own encryption  algorithms.
    END QUOTE
    Best regards,
    Robbie

  • Publisher unknown

I'm trying to install photosmart C4480 all in one printer.  I'm at the point of download and install assistant.  The download is complete.  I clicked on install and the message comes up asking if I want to install something from an unknown publisher.  The program name indicates HP Photosmart c4400, etc.  but then says publisher unknown.  Is this safe to install?

On PDFs this is stored in the Encryption Dictionary under the Key EBX_PUBLISHER  - searching for this in the 'fulfilled' PDF using a text editor in the PDF may prove enlightening - it should be towards the bottom.

  • Wifi/cell signal cycle

I'm new to the iphone, less than a week. My phone cycles in and out of my wifi. This happens on all networks. It detects a network, I connect, I get full strength and then after a few minutes no signal. I don't even have to move the phone and I loose the signal. This happens while standing next to the WAP. My computers have no problem staying connected. My ATT signal goes from full to no service all the time.
Other than throwing it out the window....any suggestions?

It's likely that the phone is connecting to the wireless network, but then can't get an IP address. As a check, wait for it to connect (there will be a check mark next to the network name in Settings/WiFi), then tap on the arrow to the right of the network name. Look at the IP address. If it begins with 169 (e.g., 169.254.100.254) then the router did not assign an IP address. There are several possible causes of this (in decreasing order of probability):
    1. Out of date router firmware. Go to the web site of the router manufacturer and see if they have a firmware update. This is particularly common with Linksys and Belkin routers.
    2. DHCP (the automatic address assignment server in the router) is turned off. This would be unusual, as it is on by default on all routers, so you would have had to intentionally turn it off.
    3. Bad encryption (WEP or WPA) key. If this were the case you would be prompted for a password, and would get an error message if the key were bad.
    4. MAC filtering enabled on the router. This feature allows only previously identified computers to connect to the router. Again, you would get an "unable to connect" error when you first tried if this were the case.
    5. No MAC address set in the iPhone. This should happen automatically; if it doesn't you need to do a restore. To check, go to Settings/General/About and look at the "WiFi Address". If there is a value in that entry this is not the problem.

  • Encrypting PDF with password. PDF command failed due to PDFlib error: Bad parameter.

I'm trying to encrypt a PDF with a password and receive this error.
~ERROR~com.adobe.document.PDFManipulation~: PDF command failed due to PDFlib error: Bad parameter.
It does not throw an exception, it just logs this error.
Anybody know how to fix this?
    Version: 7.0.2
    OS: Win

I was also getting this error, when trying to set usage rights on a document and then encrypt it with a password. I found a solution which works (more like a workaround, as this feels like a bug):
    1. Open the unprotected file
    2. Call pdfDocument.encryptWithPassword()
    3. Call pdfDocument.save(), write resulting bytes to temp file
    4. Reopen this file with pdfFactory.openPdfWithPassword()
    5. Now you can call pdfDocument.setUsageRights() and pdfDocument.save()

  • MIME/SMIME Encryption with Bad Message Signature error

    Hello Gurus,
I'm trying to send out an encrypted message through a custom pipeline with MIME Encoder.  The error we're getting is:  The message has a bad message signature.  I searched around and found no references to this error.
All the certs are in place. Encryption was set to true in the pipeline. No signing needed.
Has anyone run into this issue before?  Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
According to current information, we can hardly give precise troubleshooting why this happens, I think you need check the configuration on your side, and collect more information for us to troubleshoot.
