Bad Flash in ASA, no smartnet either.

when I do a dir on my ASA 5505 I get the following error.
%Error opening disk0:/ (Invalid DOS media or no media in slot)
I assume this mean it is bad because it is installed. Does anyone know if I can just buy a flash card and install it do does this have to come from Cisco. If it comes from Cisco they run about $400.00 and I will just have to buy a new ASA for $600.00.
Regards,
Dan

www.lanstreet.com sells 5505's for a very reasonable price.
so the 5505 is currently booted up into an OS?
have you tried formatting the flash?
have you tried copying an image to flash?

  • 790GX-G65 bad flash

    Hello,
I'm new here, and of course that's because I made a stupid mistake (or more than one).
I was informed that I could 'unlock' the fourth core on my AMD Phenom II (on http://us.msi.com/landing/amd_quadcore/amd_quadcore.html) so that seemed worth the risk of trying. I followed their instructions and when I rebooted the system didn't work anymore, except for some serious beeping.
I panicked a little but with the 'Clear CMOS' button I was able to get back into the BIOS, and got my system to work again.
Still wanting to try to 'unlock' the fourth core, I found an updated 1.5 BIOS with Support for the "CPU Core Control" function.
    (on http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1739)
I checked, and was running 1.4 at the time.
I downloaded 1.5 and updated it through M-flash. It seemed to work just fine until when rebooted back in the M-flash section of the BIOS, with no other options.
I now suspect this may have been booted from the USB-stick (or the dual boot thing, I am not sure). As the only thing I could do in the BIOS-menu was to update the BIOS again, I tried. This time it gave a warning that the version did not match something, but i don't remember what.
This could have been a smart point not to go ahead with that same flash, but I did. It again seemed to update the BIOS, but this time it would not boot at all anymore.
The computer remained on on a black screen. After a couple minutes I restarted the system to see if it would boot, but nope. Fans start running, lights come on, I hear the HD spinning up, but no reaction. I tried with and without the USB-stick, but no responses. Screen never seems to get any signal.
Guess I really screwed this BIOS up now, and hope there still is a way to fix this.
Still kinda new at this and have been reading a lot to find an answer.
I found stuff about hotswapping the BIOS (kinda hard since it is soldered on), using floppydisks (where can I still find one of those?), or using certain key-combinations on PS2-keyboards, but I finally got a bit scared and thought to ask you before screwing it up even more, if possible.
    Hope you can help.
This is my hardware, if you need more info please let me know. I (was) run(ning) Windows 7 Ultimate RC.

Ok seeing how nobody knows the answer to your problems and which I know, nobody wants to be in a position where a bad flash has gone awry. I have to tell everyone here that MSI has screwed up bigtime on its latest bios revision for this mainboard! there seems to be a fatal error when flashing with the M-flash. MSI seriously needs to add a note to the new .150 bios and add DO NOT FLASH THIS BIOS WITH M-FLASH AS IT WILL BRICK YOUR MOTHERBOARD, USE HQ MSI USB TOOL INSTEAD well thats the sad truth about it all. I was in your same position and all of this could have been avoided with a little note attached to the new bios update. Now here´s the good news  you can recover it with the help of some czech programmers and a little ingenuity. follow the trail and put it all together in order to learn how to flash the damaged bios through the spi diagnostic port, no need to desolder or anyother physical hack. heres a diagram of the boards diagnostic port, numbers are based on a parallel header. you will need 4 150 ohm resistors 1/4 watt, skip the 1uf cap in the schematic from here http://www.fccps.cz/download/adv/frr/spi/msi_spi.html as you do not need an external power source. VCC is unused in our case as the motherboard still boots standby power. Run CWSDPMI.EXE before SPIPGM.EXE
SChematic in order to build the cable
the following commands are used to identify, erase and finally flash the dead bios chip
    SPIPGM.exe /i
    SPIPGM /e
SPIPGM /p bios.120 (i used bios version 1.2 to be on the safe side)
    MSI JSPI1 PIN HEADER ASSIGNMENT

                `---'
    summary
    1. Build an SPI Cable and install header pins on jspi1 port
    2. Leave the computer connected in standby power and attach the cable to the jspi1 pinout and attach the parrallel end to another computer booting DOS (for example I built a custom freedos bootdisc with said programs)
    3. run the spi server then run the spi software
    4. detect, erase, flash
5turn pc on and learn from your mistakes
Optional flash the new 150 bios with the HQ MSI USB TOOL!

  • K8N Neo2 Plat Boot Issues. Bad Flash?

Well i just got my board in the other night and i had everything up and running and wasn't too satisfied with the OC on the memory scores i was getting so i flash to bios 1.55 from one of the sites linked from here.  Everything went fine on the flash with no apparent errors but now when i try to boot it gives me the normal boot beep then right after a  tiny faint beep and it locks up at the Platinum screen where you can hit DEL or TAB to post.  I flashed from a win98 virtual ram drive to avoid the issues of a bad floppy.  There were no errors on flash at all and it rebooted itself at the end.  I've tried to reset the CMOS many times and still nothing.  I've tried changing out mem, psu, vid cards, and other parts just to see if i can get past the screen but it won't budge.  Anyone heard of any simular problems and if so how can i fix it short of rma?

Unfortunately i've tried the bad flash for my bios and nothing happens at all.  The Floppy never even starts and neither does the light on it to read from the floppy.  I left it running for atleast 15 mins once and nada.  Wish there was an easy way to fix it heh.  Guess i've learned my lesson to triple check before flashing.  Any other ideas?

  • How to Save Command Output to Flash on ASA 8.4

    Hi,
I nice easy one for you guys.
How do you save the command output from the CLI  to a file on flash?
With IOS, I would normally use a pipe command to redirect to tftp, but the ASA doesn't support this as far as I can tell. As a work around I was thinking I could save the output to flash and then tftp that file off the ASA.
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for your help. I do use this feature at the moment, but I find every break in the output (where you need to hit space to see more) gets recorded which leaves the file quite messy. I usually have to edit the file afterwards so it reads clearly.
I wondered if there is a way for the asa to write the output directly?
    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Flash Player doesn't work, either IE or Firefox.

Flash Player doesn't work, on either IE or Firefox.  Vista 32 bit, Firefox 10.0.2, Shockwave Flash 11.1.102.62.  Reloaded Firefox and Flash.  I get the spinning circle, but video never starts on IE or FF. Settings manager works.  I'm at a loss.  Update - actually it works on most video now, except Fox Sports or ESPN, either IE of FF.

After browsing the forums a bit, it would appear that this has been an ongoing problem for more than a month and the only 'inquiry' on the part of Adobe that I can find is one gentleman consistently asking people to report through the adobe bug/crash report process
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/953796
While I'm certain there have been many, many reports offered up, we have yet to see any solutions from the company, and admissions that there are issues with this product, or any ETA on expecting a reliable, stable version of Flash.
It would be very nice to have some feedback formally from the company.  Many users (including myself) are experiencing frequent BSOD, having to spend hours uninstalling, reinstalling and aimlessly troubleshooting our computers all because of this add-in.
I recently updated every single hardware driver from my manufacturer, flashed my BIOS, troubleshot memory through self-diagnostics for days, and i still have issues related to Flash.   I've tried the quick fixes suggested by (not sure if he's an Adobe official voice) user 'Chris' to no avail.
Certainly I could offer my dump file, by what good will that do me?  Adobe, you certainly have enough crash reports to make SOME progress, please offer us up something, even if it's just to update us on any progress or research?  All we know is you want information from us, while we still have nothing from you

  • P55-gd65 bad flash

    Hello,
    yesterday i flashed a p55-65gd with M-FLASH (yep, stupid!!) .
when it came back on it just gave a blank screen and the USB/ps2 ports aren't working.
The 6 Leds are all on and everything seems to be working (fans/cpu...)
I tried to CLEAR CMOS but that didn't work!!
because the USB's aren't working and the keyboard as well I can't do anything.
Is there any other way to save this board??

It's bricked so you can't do it yourself. Either contact MSI or go to local PC service center and ask if they can reflash this for you (SPI programmer is needed).

  • Bad flash performans

Why is the flash performance so bad? Or is it just me? I had pclinuxos on my machine before I've gone the arch way, and there the flash was muuuch better. It ran smoothly on most sites with normal video quality (not HD). But on arch the flash is horrible. It's starting to bug me alot, because every time I go to a page with a bigger video or open a few pages with flash banner's, flash takes over 80% of my cpu power. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to disrespect someone, but this is a big problem for me (and my friend who's on arch to), and I think it should be fixed. Is there something I can do to optimize flash?

  • P67A-GD65 (b2) stuck in boot loop after bad flash

    Hello,
My mainboard is stuck, I can't open bios setup, (even tho it appears in f11 menu), and it won't boot on any device.
I removed every hard drive and DVD, and tried to boot on DOS with a usb, but it won't even boot DOS, and no usb device appears in f11 menu (I tried every usb ports)
And I can't enter bios setup (it just reboots)
Initially I was trying to update my bios because some features I wanted were not in my old version. But I think Avast blocked the update program (E7681v43.exe opened in an usb) and when I restarted the bios flash failed, and my PC entered a boot loop. When I press f11, it's a new interface so some things in the bios updated.
The only message I get when I put the E7681v43.exe and E7681IMS.430, or the files for v1j (oldest version before ivy bridge support) on a fat32 usb stick (tried formatted, and formated with Rufus), a red message appears saying "bios me updated ... file not found."
Same thing if I try the MSIHQ flash utility, it doesn't work as my PC won't boot on the usb.
I think my motherboard is bricked and the only solution is to send it to msi to get a working bios.
My motherboard p67a gd65 (b2) (the one with bad sata 2 ports) and it doesn't appear in the product name list anymore to register it on msi...
It was bought the on the 19th of January 2011, I hope I can still ask for msi for help!
I'm looking forward to your opinions on my issue, and sorry for the long text.

Quote from: Svet on 24-September-13, 17:50:38
older b2 cannot be updated to the .4xx
you have to send the mobo to be replaced with newer revision
Thanks! do you know where can I ask for a replacement?
I can't register it on msi, and when I ask a question and I give the serial number it just abords...
I already send an email to msi France (I live in Belgium). But email are too slow usually.
and what about the secondary bios, no way to repair primary bios with it?

  • K7T 266 Pro2 - bad flash ,bios chip manufacturer wanted

Hi, i've problem like many others, i've flashed my PRO2 Mother board with bios file of PRO2-A(the picture of PRO2 in msi site is bad, i've cooler on my northbridge and there isn't, but it's my mistake  ) now i want to reprogram it and i need know the name or type you know, of  that bios chip to reflash it with chip programer ,i can't see that name because after i unsticked the ami seal from chip, the text on chip have dissapeared  ,can somebody help me with this? The only which is possible to see is the manufacturer - maybe EON or smthng similarly i'm not sure,i need to know all that is on that chip, thanx for help saculcz

Its probably just a bricked board. I suggest you phone your local PC shops and find out which one has a ISP programmer. That way they can flash the latest, or any BIOS version for that matter, onto the current BIOS chip, ensuite.  Here is an example of such a programmer http://www.xeltek.com/In-System-Programmers/SuperPro-IS01/
Fry's Electronics in the US seems to be quite helpful from what I understand. That is of course if you are from the US.
You can download the latest BIOS from the MSI site and take that along on a USB flash drive, and they will be able to flash it for you, at a fee of course, normally.
Else you can search the web for companies that specialise in sending you ready flashed BIOS chips, which will of course cost money as well and means you have to solder it onto the board.
Alternatively you can send the board to a MSI technical centre and they will also do the job.
You will have to weigh up the costs and time effort and decide.

  • P67A-C43 (B3) Bad flash

I tried to flash this motherboard and it went bad (my first one!) and I would like to know if the motherboard has any jumper that I can use to trigger some kind of BIOS recovery mode. RIght now the PC is in a restarting loop of 10 seconds with no POST at all. Thank you very much in advanced!!!!
    Motherboard is MSI P67A-C43 (B3)

Yes, I have cleared the CMOS using Jumper, Battery and every other possible way. I flashed it using a USB utility that I downloaded from the BIOS section on the official website starting from within WIndows 8. Actually I made a stupid mistake during the flashing ( I think ) and you know the rest...

  • Bad flash after BIOS update

I downloaded the latest LIVE UPDATE. My BIOS needed to be updated from 1.4 to 2.2 so I gave it a go. After approx. 75% of flash update my system suddenly rebooted and a black screen and 8 beeps was all I got! I disconnected everything from the MOBO (add-on cards,  HD drives,... ) but still  8 beeps and BLACK SCREEN. I also tried to clear the CMOS with JBAT1 but still no progress.
    Anyone?

I know it is frustrating that you are having a problem. However many others have had the same problem and most folks don't even want to respond to this type of question any more. I would suggest for the best possible info that you try the search button and you will get more info than you can imagine on this topic and all the answers are there as well.
Sorry if I also did not give a detailed explaination either but who wants to write a couple of pages of text ever time someone kills their bios.

  • K8N neo MS-7030 Bad flash

    Hi folks.
I hope someone here can help
I have been trying to recover from a bad bios flash using the floppy disk. I've done everything suggested here including disconnection everything and even disconnecting video for one try.
Here is my problem. I boot with the floppy the screen says it's found the drive and right when I would expect the flasher program to load or say it's loading the machine shuts down. I can't find anything in the book or on line that would indicate why the machine shuts down or how it's getting a signal to shut down but I think if it kept running I would be OK
    Thanks

thanks for your reply. i'm pretty sure I've followed the instructions pretty well and  wonder if you think I missed something and what it could be?. The bios I have is the correct one for the board although it's a newer bios than originally shipped with the board do you think that might be the problem?

  • Bad Flash 8?

My Post should not be understood as critic. Because I think I
can imagine, how difficult it must be to develop a software such as
    Flash.
My Post should rather be understood as suggestion to make
things better. And as a developer working since many years with the
program I think I know best, what makes my life easier or more
    difficult.
So, sometimes I would like to post some issues hoping, that
someone from Adobe picks up the idea or in the hope, that other
developers agree with me, so I must not feel, I am the only one,
    getting angry sometimes.
I feel, changes should improve the program, but also should
improve the conditions for the people, they must work with the
program. If changes have no sense, just leave it as it is.
    For example:
The Help file has been changed.
BEFORE it was very convenient, to drag a Library item from
one Flash file to the other open Library. You could have 2 Library
windows open at the same time, placed side by side, so you could
see, if one contains the item and the other not - if not - just
    drag it.
NOW – this is not possible anymore. Why? – sense?
BEFORE – I like to have the Help file open while
working, but only in small width size at the right side of the
screen. If I read example code, the code was easy to read, even the
    Help window was minimized.
NOW – code is placed in a Text field with as scrollbar.
It is more difficult to read and to copy as before - sense? And by
the way, what sense makes it, to highlight the search word in
yellow 20 times within the text?
    THE ACTIONSCRIPT WINDOW
    FIND or FIND and REPLACE
Imagine, you have a code of 10000 lines in it and you want to
search for one particular word. You open FIND. When it has found
the word you must close the search display if you want to change
and open it again, to see, where is the next place of the same
searched word. If the search word is 50 times in the code, you will
have to open and close the search form 50 times. You may say, use
Find and Replace instead, but this is not always wanted, because
you don’t want to change the search word everywhere, only at
same few locations. I fyou don't want to change, you will have to
close the FIND and REPLACE as well. I want to change WHILE the FIND
display is open, so I don't need to close and open it 50 times. A
NEXT and a CLOSE button in FIND would make the life easier. You
just close the form when not longer needed.
    SCROLLBARS
    - this is not a big thing, but when you have a large amount
of code in the window, you don’t want to use the Up or Down
buttons to move to line 1000. You will use the Drag bar. Now, from
line 1000 you want to move to line 1200 – you will use the
Drag bar. But with 10000 lines of code, this Drag bar is very tiny
    – difficult to hit each time you want to move – just a
little bit bigger would be much more convenient.
    Excellent job with few shadows.
    Regards,
    Luciewong

... and, while I was writing, I nearly forgot the big issue
    The PUBLISH performance.
I just hope, that people are working on this item, because it
    is very frustrating.
With large amount of code, it takes ages. But not only the
    time is the problem.
If PUBLISH has finished, other open programs, specific IE
Browser need to be refreshed, otherwise they work and react very,
    very slowly.
I work on 2 machines at the same time. One has 120 GB hard
    drive, the other only 40.
I can only publish on the small computer, publishing is much,
much faster, even it takes several minutes. So why is that and can
    there anything improved?
    regards
