Bad home button

I went in the pool with my phone in a life proof case and when I got out, the phone was acting a little crazy. I shut it off, and turned it back on to find that the home button wasn't working. I put the phone in rice for a little while, but when I took it out and it went in recovery mode. I'm not sure what to do, and I am in need of help, a lot of important pictures and documents are on my phone.
Thank you

I really hope you make sure your phone is backed up to icloud or iTunes because it sounds like you'll be searching for a replacement. Recovery mode means you need to restore your iphone which will out it back to factory settings.
Try to restore through iTunes. If it doesn't, then you're probably looking at a replacement.
Best of luck.

  • Hardware issue : Home Button "Black Dot"

Hi I'm from Cyprus. I have my iphone and i love it but there is this issue on my home button. There is some kind of black dot on it. Right inside the square line. What should i do?

I'm having some issues with my iPhone 4's home button and wondering if others are experiencing this...
Sometimes I'll click and get no response. Sometimes a single click will bring up the multitasking. Sometimes a double click will take me to the spotlight screen. It doesn't seem to matter how hard or where I click. At this point it's a mild nuisance, but if it gets worse, I'll make the 2hr journey to the Grand Rapids Apple Store to see about a replacement. Has anyone else experienced this and had any luck with a no-hassels replacement from Apple? I've thought about restoring the phone, but I'm pretty sure this is strictly hardware related and it wouldn't do any good.
    Thanks!

    I had the same problem.
Apple will replace the phone. I had the same problem (Home button didn't work) with my fresh just out of the box iPhone 4. I took it back to Apple (not ATT), and he took one look at it and replaced it, no questions asked. Took all of 5 minutes. I think there was a bad batch of 'home' buttons.
If you don't replace it, it will only get worse with time. Have no problems with the replacement. They will give you a fresh one, you keep the original box, and will place a new s/n sticker on the box. Was it refurbished or a new one? I don't know. It was back in mid july, so not likely to be a refurbished. I didn't care, it was brand new looking.
P.S. With my bad Home button, I could tell it was slightly recessed from the screen front. The new one was not. Whether you have that or not, take it back. The Home button should work every time. It's hardware, not software.

I bougnt my S5 a month ago and I am having two major issues.  The screen is very slow to respond.  When the screen is dark and I press the home button, it doesn't come on.  I have to press the button anywhere from 4-10 times and then it usually flashes on and back off.  It is very, very frustrating.  The other issue is that the battery drains very quickly.  I have called Verizon numerous times regarding these issues.  They tell me to do different things that never help.  We eventually did a factory reset and it still has the same issues.  Help!  It is a brand new phone and unfortunately I am in a new two year contract.  Ugh. Is there anyone out there who can help me?

I have done that several times.  In fact, every time I call Verizon with my phone problems, they have me do the same things repeatedly.  I keep telling them I have already done them but they insist they are SURE it will work this time.  It never does.  After doing the factory reset and it still not working correctly, they act like they are confused, almost like I am lying.  I did what you suggested above on the slim chance it would work this time but it did not.  I bought two S5's that day and the other one works perfectly fine.  I know I got a bad phone.  Verizon just does not listen.  It is a bad phone.  I just want a new phone that works properly.  Is that too much to ask?  I bought a new phone that has been bad from day one.  Why oh why do I have to spend hours of my time on the phone, in the store, on the computer, trying to rectify this?  It shouldn't be this difficult!  Help please!!!

  • My phone won't turn on. I have tried the Power button   home button several times and even held it for over 3 minutes.. When I plug it in it still won't respond to itunes PLEASE HELP!! A little water got in it but it was like a drop or two..

My Iphone 4g, won't turn on, I have tried the power button + home button several times and held them for over 3 minutes. It won't even respond to Itunes and I can't restore it because of that. A little water got into it before it completely shut off but it was like little drops.. Please HELPP.
I also have tried  to put it in rice and left it there for 9 hours and it still doesn't work

A drop or two of water may have been enough to cook it. If it was bad enough to prompt you to put it in a bag of rice, then I'd venture to guess it was more than a drop or two.
Try putting it back in the bag of rice and leave it there for several days.
If that doesn't fix it, then you're more than likely looking at paying for an out of warranty replacement.
Water and delicate electronics don't generally get along well.

  • My Ipad 1 doesn't charge even after 5 hours of charging. I tried pressing the power and home button to reset it (even tried toggling the mute button a few times), but It doesn't start up with the apple logo. Anyone has any ideas what else can I try

a have tried everyting now a dont have a clue what too do??

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good. If your computer/iTunes does not recognize the iPad, then the cable is probably bad.
Try this first -  Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Home button unresponsive

My Home button on my Ipod touch is not working. It feels like its stuck. I have tried pressing it repeatedly, and re-booting the ipod and no help. Can anyone help me?

My iphone 3G's home button and general phone operation went haywire since hte latest firmware update from Apple through i-tunes. I'm wondering wether this is a coincidence, or bad luck. My phone is very new and well under warranty. I took it to my local Vodaphone store at Menai (NSW) and they said that I have to pay! to get it sent off for inspection under warranty???? I think it was like $38 from memory... My phone is in mint condition, not even swirl marks on the back. And looks brand new, and is always very well treated.. (it 'was' my pride and joy) I got the phone sent off for inspection last week (after paying my fee... even though it's under warranty??) and i have not heard anything since... and I have no phone to use in the mean time.. I'm a big apple supporter.. and have numerous mac laptops and converted many windows users to mac (acutally I converted a person in my office last week before my phone died and i'm helping her setup her mac mini today.. "shrug")... but If they don't come back with a new or fixed iphone for me and refund the $38 fee, then i'll never go mac again... I've had enough....
I'll let you know how it pans out..

  • The home button on my iPhone 5s is sunk in?

i never noticed that the home button was sunk in until I used my friends iPhone 5s, I still have warranty on my phone, will Apple replace it?

Take it to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs checkfits function.  If it is bad, they can advise on repair/replacement.

  • IPod Touch Home Button unresponsive

This only started to get bad Monday. It started to be finicky about Sunday. The button isn't stuck; "clicks" like it should when pressed but the device is entirely unresponsive unless it's pressed and held to get ANY response whatsoever. Very frustrating. When pressed, it goes down fully without much pressure like it should and comes back "up" when released.
I don't know what to do or what even caused this. It *almost* seems like a software issue, since I recently updated to 6-point-whatever iOS for the Touch 4 and that was pretty recently.
I'll try using canned air on the button itself this weekend if there happens to be any sort of dirt underneath it.

  • Why are so many home buttons not working like mine? See web comments

Why are so many home buttons on ipad 2 reported as faulty on the web? Mine is being replaced because of this requiring tedious journeys to Apple Bristol

Webchats, forums, and news reporters basically talk about what doesn't work, not what does. This site is for people who are having trouble so you don't see many people logging in saying: "I have a perfect iPad!" Consumer non-News would be: "Im John Materese and today no-one returned an iPad to the local Apple Store."
Sorry you had a bad experience but with millions and millions made and sold, some one is bound to get a defective device. To put it another way, if Apple's defective rate were an industry unheard of 1%, with 15 million iPads sold, that would be 150,000 iPads that had a defect. 1% is a very small number, 150,000 isn't

  • IPhone 6 clicking noise coming from home button and also a little loose..anyone else have this issue or suggestions on how to handle it? Any and all suggestions are appreciated

It seems as if when I push my home button there is a loud click or a clicking noise that shouldn't be there.  If I push the home button in certain areas or kind of on the side it's not so bad.  Also it seems as if the button is kind of loose or wiggles a little bit and can also feel the little silver ring and seems as if it's either not on properly or the home button is sunken in pretty good.  I was at the Apple Store and checked out some display models and didn't notice it on those and they all felt solid.  Has anyone else had this issue or experienced this?  Any and all suggestions will help greatly...I just want to know if it's normal or how I should go about taking care of it...thanks!

ok...the doctor is in!....well, yes I agree with other posts concerning "clicky" crunchy touch id/home buttons...ah... we do swaps, cleanings, alcohol wipes....NO NO NO! yes dirt can and will trap inside the extreme minor spaces around the home button and the screen cutout..yes twirling a q-tip round the button only stuffs grime deeper in, but can clean the edge...in this case, that crunch you hear (new out-of-box), its a very popular notice that most do hear a crunchy glass-like snapping sound...being that the touch id does have a sensor ring on the outer side, the actual noise your hearing is ........wait for it......MISS-ALLIGNMENT!!!! yes... pop that sucker open, remove bracket....what do you see??. touch id pressed thru and adheared around the ends of the button...and also most cases, not perfectly aligned..that noise is the actual ring brushing against the screen hole cutout causing metal and glass to bind against eachother... re-seating the button will correct the issue..being that theyre so close together, the slightest miss-alignment can cause that annoying crunchy click sound. find a swap that doesn't...ok that one works but now the silent switch is loose!!!!! ive seen it all

  • My iphone got smashed and the home button popped out will it be elegible for oow repair?

I accidentally smashed my iphone 4, the home button popped out and the back side looks bad... but apart from the home button it did not separated in multiple parts. It turns on when plugged. Do you think I could I get a oow replacement?

You'll need to contact Apple and ask but yes, they probably will replace it for their standard fee.
    Regards.

  • Is double clicking home button to access music controls the best ways?

Currently user need to double click the home button to access music control, while the phone is locked.
I understand now since users r familiar with iphone controls this interaction is not bad to have but not the best interaction type.
Instead the clock area could be swappable to music controls & mayb even weather.
    cheers

You can also go to settings / music

  • Double-Click Home Button Hasn't Worked for me since 1.1.1 upgrade

    Hi all,
I've been waiting around, sort of wondering if anyone has the same problem as I do. With 1.1.1, on of my favorite features I was excited for was the double-clicking of the home button. But this feature works far from properly on my iPhone.
When playing music, double-clicking the home button does display the iPod controls, and that's nice. And when locked, the home pressed twice also correctly shows the iPod controls. But the features that work properly stop here.
When set to the home menu, double tapping the button causes absolutely nothing to happen. I've tried it many times. Making sure music isn't playing, making sure the switch that says "Show iPod controls instead when music is playing" is turned off. I wanted this feature so bad I've done 3 software restores and nothing.
The same goes for Contact Favorites. What's interesting is that if I have the phone unlocked (and I can be in any app) and the double-click setting is set to show Favorites, I can double-click the home button and it will show the favorites. But never when locked. The only double-click feature that works from the locked screen is iPod controls. And the iPod controls like to show even when it's not set to nor pending music playing.
Is anyone else out there having these issues? I'm out of ideas of how to fix it.

If I'm following corectly it sounds like you've done a bit of trouble shooting yourself. Can you take it to an Apple store an let them check it out?
