Bad iPod update software?

Last week I was prompted to install the latest ipod and itunes software released 1/10/06.
However, upon installing the software, my ipod no longer updates - anything.
I've done the 5-R's, I've reinstalled everything from scratch, and it still won't update:
These five steps (known as the five Rs) will conquer most iPod issues.
1. Reset your iPod.
2. Retry with a different USB port.
3. Restart your computer.
4. Reinstall iPod and iTunes software.
5. Restore your iPod.
I suspect there is something very wrong with the latest 1.11 ipod update.
Symptoms:
1) PC & iTunes see ipod fine
2) itunes shows songs/podcasts on the ipod
3) ipod is blank - no podcast menu, no playlists are updated, it's blank.
Anyone know if Apple has responded to this issue? or has a fix in the works? Or if there is some way to roll-back to the older version? or what I can do?

Hi Posty,
Welcome to Apple Discussions
I don't know if this will help but won't the old software (version 1.0) be on the install CD that came with the nano?
Regards,
Colin R.

Will having the newest iPod Updater software help me become one step closer to opening iTunes?

Unless your iPod needs to be updated to current firmware, probably not.

  • IPod updater software download problem

Hi. I got the !/folder icon on my Nano. Plugged it into my computer and reset it (but still get !/folder). Got a message that software version 1.1 was available. Am unable to download software. When I click the "download iPod updater software" button on the ipod updater download webpage, the download dialogue starts but no progress is made in the download. I've tried many times (using both the "save to folder" option and the "run" option, but the download stops as soon as it begins [little icons of pieces of paper fly through the air and into a folder but no data!]. I waited overnight in case the download site was swamped and tried again, but the same thing happened. What could be the problem?
    1. Reset your iPod. Check
    2. Retry with a different USB port. Check
    3. Restart your computer. Check
    4. Reinstall iPod and iTunes software. Problem!
    5. Restore your iPod.

FYI: Problem resolved. I still don't know what the problem was, but I have finally managed to download the updater software.
Using the updater to install the new software solved the problem with the iPod, BTW.

  • IPod Updater Software won't install in computer

Help! I've searched through the discussion boards and can safely say I have not seen my specific problem with the iPod Updater software posted. For 8 weeks, I've installed the latest iPod Updater software (06-26; 09-23; 10-12) that I've downloaded from Apple and zdnet sites. Like most everyone, I kept getting the message that the iPod software is too old, etc. After each installation, everything seems to have downloaded properly. I then go on to the Utilities folder, and after I click on the latest Updater software to finish the installation, my computer keeps asking me to connect my iPod, and the Update and Restore buttons are greyed out. I even went up to the Options menu to Update and Restore and that's also not viable. I've then tried to reset, restore my iPod, nothing was working. I was even on the phone with Apple for 2.5 hours (iBook and iPod helpdesks) and the newest result is that my iPod is in the disk mode; and the folder with the exclamation mark is flashing. When I checked the Console log of my computer, I found this message:
2005-11-16 22:36:48.012 Installer[365] SUIS couldn't be installed because "This software cannot be installed on this computer."
2005-11-16 22:43:09.278 SystemUIServer[196] Trying to set an iPods time, though I have no user client.
Has this happened to anyone? Does anyone have any working solutions? Should I have posted this on the iBook site? I'm at my wits end.

I am experiencing the same problem. I cant seem to get the ipod updater to actually update my ipod.
itunes tends to freeze my system, even though Ive had a full format and reinstall. I think the trick is getting itunes v4.9 though I am struggling to find this version as well...

  • REPLACED IPOD, UPDATE SOFTWARE NEEDED

MY IPOD WAS LOST AND PURCHASED A NEW SHUFFLE,NOW WHEN OPENING UP MY LIBRARY IT STATES THAT WE NEED TO GET THE LATEST VERSION, IF WE DOWNLOAD WILL I LOSE MY LIBRARY?? HOW WOULD WE GO ABOUT GETTING IT TO RECOGNIZE THE NEW ONE AS WELL AFTER THIS IS DONE, WE ARE REALLY NEW TO THIS!

    Hello D.S.
    >What is the point of downloading the ipod update software?
Well... it would include the latest installer to make sure that updating your iPod would be less problematic (but not totally).
Does anyone know if its free?
    It's free:
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
    >Also, does it make my nano work better.
    In some cases.
    >I read the small article under "iPod Updater" on this website and it said it would fix the bugs of the nano.
    Sometimes.
    >Will it erase the data on my ipod?
No, not if you follow the directions in this article:
    Updating iPod software
    >Does anyone know what bugs it fixes and can anyone whose downloaded and installed it shine some light on this situation please.
At the moment, the nano's software is still at version 1.0. So there haven't been any bug fixes yet. We'll just have to be patient.

  • IPod Updater software on CD?

This should be in a separate forum... but I am wondering if it is possible to get the iPod Updater software on CD (separate from a new iPod), instead of downloading it from the internet, (which for dial up users, can take quite a long time).

No, but you can find a friend on a faster connection and work a deal to get it burned to a CD on his system. For that matter, the boys and girls on the Genius Bar would probably do it for you.

  • Is it bad to update software to your mac

Is it bad to update software to your mac and is it using up memory every time you update?

    HI Alex...
No. Quite the contrary. It's very important to keep your system software up to date.
I don't think you mean memory but hard disk space. You can check to see how much free space there is on the startup disk.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

  • Ipod not recognised by iTunes after latest Ipod Updater Software loaded

    Hi
Can you please help as I can't get my Ipod to work anymore with iTunes. I recently did a "clean-up" of my computer and removed a lot of old files to speed up my computer and whilst doing this I upgraded my iTunes software with the latest Ipod Software Updater. However, I can't get my iPod to work with iTunes anymore. I plug in my iPod and it starts to say "Do Not Disconnect" on the iPod screen but then it doesn't show up in my iTunes so I can't update my iPod.
I tried to use the iPod Software Updater "Repair" option but this just freezes my system and doesn't recognise my Ipod. I also get the error "Write Failure on this disk" showing up in the icons near my Computer Clock when I plug in my Ipod.
I've tried doing a system restore back to when the ITunes worked with the Ipod but this didn't fix it. I've tried removing iTunes and the iPod from my computer and then reinstalling them from the software from apple.com but it still doesn't work. The problem being is when I've deleted ITunes and the Ipod Installer I've lost my original HP + Ipod installation disk so maybe I'm missing some essential system files? I've used the Ipod Software Installer from apple.com to install the iPod files but I'm not sure whether I need the files from the original installation CD. Can I find the installation CD files from anywar
    Please help!!
    Thanks in advance

  • Can't Run Ipod Update Software because missing Easy CD Creator 5 Basic Disc

I just installed the Itunes software for my nanno. When I try to download the songs I have in Itunes to my nanno, I get a message saying there is an updated version of the Ipod Software. When I try to download the updated Ipod Software, I get a message saying that I'm missing the Easy CD Creator 5 Basic Disc Software needed to do the download. I don't know what this is or where to get it. I can't figure out how to download the songs without going through this process so I'm stuck. Please help! Thanks.

Something is wrong here, you don't need Easy CD Creator 5 Basic Disc Software for the Pod updater!
Ok, got to start > all programs > ipod updater.
Run that propgram, does it start? Is it even installed on your PC?

  • ERROR 1639 when trying to uninstall iPod update software

" - invalid command line argument. Consult the windows installer SDK for detailed command line help."
What on earth? After installing all the required software to use my new iPod Nano, it still would not work. Tried everything including uninstalling the software to try again..wouldn't let me uninstall it!?
I previously had a iPod Shuffle that worked perfectly, but was stolen, hence replacing it with the Nano. I wondered if this software was unsuitable for this model. Either way Im clueless as what to do next, any suggestions welcome! I feel like dropping something hard and pointy onto it from a great height!

I think something of that sort happened to me but then I solved it... the mater was that I had USB ports on the front and on the back of the computer (where you turn it on) and I was connecting the iPod on the front and a pop up of that sort appeared... I tried connectiong it on the back and it worked just fine...
    I really hope this helps..

  • Old Ipod Updater Software?

Is there a place where I can download old software for my ipod? I lost the disk it came with...

Old software? You probably can't get them now from Apple. Is there a reason why you want an older version and not the most recent version?

  • IPod Updater software "cannot mount ipod"

Hmm.. ok so a couple months back my iPod just took a crap on me. I hook it up to my pc and get the apple logo then the whole folder w/ !. Then it goes into the "do not disconnect" thing but then it resets on a continuous cycle. I've tried to hook it up to the updater and restore it but the updater says it cannot mount ipod. So... my question is, do I have to send this thing in to be repaired, and will they even do it?
    Thank you,
    Justin

I finally called Apple. After going through everything the website says to do with the service tech, she recommended I take the ipod to an Apple Store or send it in for service. I went to the Apple Store today, and the tech there said that something was physically wrong with the drive. Since mine was still under warranty he gave me a new one.
Sorry that I didn't have a better answer
